Well kept and good staff. However, everything here is obnoxiously loud. If you are in one of the dorms: between 8:30am an midnight the music from the street will blast so loud, you feel it. It’s at least three sources of music at any given time. But it does not stop here. The hostel also plays music itself (way too loud) and has some sort of live music every night. There simply is no escaping it anywhere here. Do not forget earplugs if you need to stay here.

We had an excellent stay. The location is great, with all kinds of activities close by. The hostel is very clean and even the 14 person dorm felt private. Two pools are definitely a perk with the climate and the rooftop terrace is absolutely gorgeous. Most importantly the staff was incredibly nice. From start to finish we felt cared for and welcome. We especially had a great time interacting with the bar staff namely Rodrigo and Marck. Thanks for making our stay epic! Hopefully we get to come back in the future, but for now I can recommend this hostel to everyone :-)

We are staying in Masaya hotels in every city, and the one in Santa Marta is amazing! They have a nice view from the terrace, and located in the very center. The staff is kind and very responsive. It's social, and the times we stayed there was a live music salsa party, and we had so much fun dancing. Big thanks to Marc and Rodrigo, they are cool dancers, and even did animation for guests to involve all in the party. U should definitely check their cocktails, they are amazing bartenders 😅🙂

I stayed her for Christmas 2022. I rented two private rooms because I was traveling with my parents and my wife. The rooms were nice, they were very clean. The options we had for breakfast were also good, nothing fancy, but they were good and most people at the restaurant were nice. However, I would not stay there again. The area is super noisy, it's clear that we're talking about a hostel, but there's too much noise. Inside the hostel there was also a couple having a very loud conversation next to the pool late at night and no one from the hostel said anything. I texted the front desk, but still nothing happened. One of the things I probably disliked the most was the fact that there was a clear preference in terms of service and willingness when it came to assisting foreigners. At the front desk, most people barely smiled and said hello whenever we arrived (there was only one girl who was super polite and sweet). Something similar happened at the restaurant. I have stayed in many hotels around the world and I had never had this sense of "racism". I would definitely pay for an actual hotel where people are more willing to host people, whether they're locals or not.

The hostel is a very beautiful building well located in the center. The dorms were confortable and clean. The staff was very kind and helpful. Unfortunately the noise ruined the experience. The hostel is located in a street where stores will play their music very loud on speakers (from 8 am till past midnight on Saturday), on top of that the ground floor of the hostel plays their own music(also very loud) and the rooftop obviously also had music going on. There was no place in the entire building where you could sit in quiet. Starting 5pm there is live music on the rooftop, which would’ve been super nice if it wasn’t so loud it made the walls of the pods in the dorms shake. All in all it is a mix of noise all day long until late at night. This a real shame as the hostel is otherwise a very nice place.

I love this place ! Felt like home! All the peeps working there at reception, the cleaning ladies, the bar are super friendly and helpful. And Jose the manager is always around making sure everything is ok. The place is great ! Dorms r big, clean, beds r comfortable and with some privacy (curtains). The terrace is spacious, with loads of places to chill and the y have a well equipped opened kitchen too. I can’t wait to come back!

The check-in process was easy and the staff was nice. The breakfast included with our room was really good too. It is a party vibe up on the roof, so if that isn't your scene, just be aware. We had a private room on the ground floor so the music wasn't too loud, but if you had a higher room it could be bothersome. Otherwise, if you like hostels and backpackers, then this would be a fine place to stay.

Traveling through Colombia and always coming back to Masaya Santa Marta. I stayed here three times, in less than two months. I guess that says enough about how wonderful the place is. It is not just a hostel where the rooms are clean, you can have good food & drinks and nice views from the rooftop. It is also a place I can call home, and that is because of the people working here! Will carry them in my heart wherever I go. And make sure you don't leave Masaya before having a lovely evening at the bar with Marck & Rodrigo ;-)

TERRIBLE! Do NOT stay here. We stayed with them before our trek to Ciudad Perdida and had booked another night for after our return (months in advanced). They sent a cancellation notice 4 days before the stay! We reached out to them and they assured us it was a systems error and that we indeed had a reservation, and even sent us a screenshot of it. When we arrived to check in (after our hike) they told us the reservation didn’t exist! The staff was rude about it and weren’t even helpful in trying to find a new place. Honestly such a disappointment. Having to find a place in busy and hot Santa Marta with all your bags was no fun.

Our group of 26 from the US had an excellent stay at Masaya. Miguel was extremely helpful before, during, and after our stay. The place is absolutely beautiful. The decor and style and plants growing everywhere. The view from the room and the atmosphere up there is amazing as well. It’s a very fun vibe. We ate breakfast and dinner there. The breakfast was very good. Dinner was fine. The rooms were very nice, clean, and had all the accommodations one would want. The location is a short distance from the beach. Overall it was a great stay and I would stay here again!

Great location and the front desk was great! Also will note that the hostel itself is really cool. My dislike is the room I got. I stayed in a 40+ usd private room, which was actually quite nice. But directly above is a pool table and people like to bang their sticks on the ground when they play and listen to music so I heard loud bangs on the ceiling all night. Maybe I'm getting too old for hostels🤣🎱🙄

The atmosphere is great its a beautiful hostel, with a good vibe, and an awesome view. The rooftop bar and pool are perfect to hang out. They have delicious drinks and the food is super tasty. Staff are extra friendly, and they have a mix of activities every week for you to enjoy. I highly recommend to stay or visit for the day.

Amazing accommodations for the prices - the best value in Santa Marta for sure. And the staff is wonderful! They plan fun activities and I have met so many friends during my time staying in the hostel. 10/10 would recommend - My favorite hostel in Santa Marta :)

The location is good. The rooms are fine . There are two pool which are more or less clean. The food isn‘t very good at the rooftop bar. We left our luggage in the storage room - money was stolen from my friends‘ luggage. So do take care!

Great place to stay in Santa Marta. Staff are excellent and very helpful. Very clean and comfy rooms. Would highly recommend if staying in Santa Marta for a few days or using as a base for touring the Caribbean coast. Great location.

The hostel looks nice, the pool and common area is also good. But be aware, dont let your stuff in the luggage room - they have stolen me money out of the backpack! And it must be Someone from the hostel, because they just have access to the room. So I cant really recommend going there!

My friends and I stayed at Masaya Santa Marta for 4 nights, and it was our favourite accommodation of our trip! Amenities, food, staff and other travellers were all so amazing. the hostel organizes daily and overnight tours, and always has something happening at night. One of the bartenders, Marck, was so friendly, a great bartender and a super awesome guy! Would definitely recommend staying here when visiting Santa Marta - will definitely be back! :)

I had fond memories of this place from my first time there seven years ago and it has only gotten better since. Comfortable rooms at great prices, incredible rooftop with a pool to sip ice cold beers and delicious cocktails in, a pool table, and a restaurant with excellent and delicious food options. Hostel offers good and fairly priced excursions and staff was very friendly and helpful.

I love that hostel, one of my favorite of Colombia! Very clean, room are nice with king bed, the pools and rooftop are also super nice. You can meet people as they have activities, but its very quiet during the night so you can also sleep well!

We stayed here for several days even though we were only supposed to stay one night! The staff from bottom to top is excellent. Sebastian and Lu at reception were always very helpful and greeted us with a smile. Jose always made sure to say hi and make sure we were enjoying our stay. And on the terrace we spent many nights with Marck and Wilson who do a great job making sure everyone is having a great time. Excellent drinks, food and service! Thank you, Masaya!

A very beautiful hostel that give to you a nice experience in an antique house which two pools and a beautiful decoration of plants and balconies. The service of the people in reception is very very good and they’re willing to help you with whatever you need. Very kind people. At the restaurant we had the chance to receive a class talking about the Manglares, a natural ecosystem that I knew a little bit until this great night with a talk of a girl that showed a lot of confidence and knowledge about the six different Manglares. I’m very happy to see that they do parties at the hotel but they also give knowledge to the visitors. It’s the unique hostel that I’ve seen that they do it. Congratulations! The bathrooms are clean, the room was great, and the social areas where very good. The unique thing that I would say that they can get better is the breakfast, a little bit more of quality on the products would be great. The time from when we ordered to having our dishes on table was perfect. I will return in a future!

Recently, I stayed at Masaya Hostel in Santa Marta. My experience was a 10 of 10 all around from the staff (Leonardo, Pedro, Blanca, Julie, Diani, Ricardo, Steven etc.), the amenities, both private rooms and shared rooms and cleanliness. Also, there is nothing like waking up to breakfast made for you like you were at home so consider adding it to your package. I am personally very thankful for the hospitality provided in Masaya. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

The hotel is terribly loud (also at night), sometimes there is music coming from 3-4 different sources, mostly 'dance' one. It feels like trying to sleep at the rave party (and no, it's impossible to do anything with it). Even though everything else was more or less fine I'll never stop here again and won't recommend it to anyone.

Great place to stay in Santa Marta ! I initially planned to stay for a week and extend for another one. Super clean, chilled and perfect to work : WiFi is great and there are a good few working areas that are comfy and inspiring. Don't forget to get a cocktail upstair - the bartender Marck does insane ones ! Especially as him and all the staff are super nice. I will definitely come back there !

The dorm room was comfortable, and the whole place was quite beautiful. I liked the coworking space. The rooftop has the shared kitchen and the bar, and was a nice place to be. The dorm room has one small desk, but otherwise the room was big and empty It could be improved by adding tables, shelves, benches and/or hooks. Otherwise you have no choice but to put all your things on the floor and it quickly becomes a mess. The kitchen is outside on the roof - it's nice if the weather is nice, but when raining out too hot, it's a pain. Regarding the location, it's well situated in the old city, which is becoming nicer and nicer as tourism picks up. There are a lot of restaurants nearby, the Exito is a short walk, and it's a couple of blocks from the waterfront. The museo del Oro is close by. The street is quiet at night and the hostel doesn't play loud music all evening.

This place is simply beautiful, has 2 pools and great salsa nights on the terrace… Food is AMAZING! And cocktails are great!

The facilities are incredible and I would suggest it 100% for a couple but I would not suggest it for a solo-traveler. The hostel is so big and spacious that there is absolutely no vibe for meeting fellow travelers and the staff (although friendly) does absolutely nothing to bring people together. The daily activities on the board also don’t happen. Extremely comfortable but boring experience. Masaya is a respectable hostel but I could never suggest it to a solo traveler.

  • 5/5 Carmela P. 1 year ago on Google
The hostel has a great location, is clean and has a nice vibe. The staff is very friendly and the bar tenders Marck and Rodrigo give the bar on the roof terrace an amazing atmosphere with their charm and of course good cocktails. I would definitely stay again at Masaya in Santa Marta.

The Masaya hostel in Santa Marta is a vibe! We loved it, the staff was very friendly and helpful. Always ready to help, the rooms were clean, daily room service. The hostel had daily entertainment. We enjoyed the fact that the hostel is about connecting people. Sout out to Gaby, Luis & Yani from reception for their attentiveness.

One of the best hostels I've had the pleasure of staying at. The rooms were nice and clean, there were plenty of spaces to work or relax. The location, close to Parke de los novios, is also great. The only thing better was the service. Everyone is keen to help you and even give suggestions for places to visit and things to do. Definetly check out some of the tours they offer through their partners.

It was great, I spent a couple of days with my best friend and we were well received by the staff of Masaya, especially thank Brayan for helping me by lending me money, are those things that differentiate Masaya from other hostels, the terrace and the bar are great, we hope to return!

Masaya was cool big open space. The rooms have privacy curtain so it's a semi private room..good food. Nice place to chill. 2 pools. The staff was very helpful and friendly.i would definitely stay there again!

There's is something horrible about Masaya and that's leaving. What an amazing place. The staff, the place, the food, everything is unbelievable. They have awesome activities every night, the service provided by the staff is THE BEST in town; the place is gorgeous and the view from the rooftop pool is amazing. A perfect place to go solo or with a company. Definitely im coming back. Choosing Masaya is a no brainer.

I had little cockroaches in my room and bed, maybe just unlucky bc it was a corner room. Hopefully a solvable issue. Other than that it was really great with a wonderful communal kitchen and amazing restaurant food (outside of breakfast). The coworking space is free and very comfortable/air conditioned which was a huge plus for me. Plus the cat that lives there is very cute :)

I’ve volunteered in Masaya for 2 weeks and it got the warmest welcoming experience in Colombia! Not only the hostel is in excellent condition and has the greatest comforts for both solo backpackers and group/couple-travelers but also the staff is absolutely kind and loving: from the guys of reception to the cleaning crew and bartenders and cooks. They also organize different events every night, from live salsa music to electronic music, AND the views from the rooftop are the best! I really enjoyed my stay there, and really recommend it as it is a very versatile hostel where you can meet both locals and backpackers. It is also a great place to base yourself and travel around for day-trips to Tayrona, Minca and the surroundings. Also it’s a MUST to order the Moscow Moul cocktail 🍸 ! Delicious.

Really a good hostel if traveling solo with not much intensions to meet people. The bar and happy hour were great but the sea food plater was not fresh and rubbery. anyway, had a private room, I cannot complain as they tended to my needs and I like that you needed your keycard to turn on the lights and AC - saves energy. 2 pools, nice pool and good location in and out of town and the beach.

  • 5/5 Francis V. 1 year ago on Google
You can't really complain about anything here, but the rooms maybe. The staff is great and helpful. The location is perfect. The shared areas are very nice. 2 pools, a shared kitchen for those who want to save a bit, a restaurant that matches all but the very best in the city, and a beautiful rooftop that can get noisy in the evening, but it's expected as this hotel is mostly for a young crowd. If you're open to meet people, you will easily.

Masaya Santa Marta is a very good and economic option for staying very central in Santa Marta. There are twin and dorm rooms available. In general the hostel has an excellent design and is very well organized and clean. The public spaces such as the Patio with pool or the rooftop area with Pool, Bar/Restaurant, Billard and kitchen are execptional in this price range and are a nice place for hanging out at hot days. The breakfast can be selected out of different options a la carte and is good. Anyway the selection of juices/fruits next to the a la carte menue would be an add-on. As often described before, this is not a silent place. Like everywhere in Colombia loud music is played in shops arround on the streets, which can be annoying sometimes. Anyway it is not different from other hotels/hostels in the city center of Colombian cities and its not coming from the hostel itself. Lots of restaurants, bars and major touristic sights (Museo de Oro, Cathedral) are in walking distance. When coming back to Santa Marta, i would definitely book Masaya again.

  • 5/5 Anna K. 1 year ago on Google
We spent a long weekend at the Masaya hostel and will definitely return! The shared room with 14 people felt surprisingly private and it was super clean! The common facilities were outstanding, with two pools and a rooftop terrace. On the roof top terrace there was always activities planned and the staff was incredibly nice. Special thanks to Marck and Rodrigo behind the bar for creating a great atmosphere and making our stay exceptional!

Really great hostel, I stayed in both dorms and private room on separate visits. Dorms offered privacy with pull down screen. Private room was decent size and comfortable. Nice hang out areas. Good showers warm water.
