Albergue Azabache

Hostel

😠 What looks like a nice and appealing small hostel is deceiving - the place caters also for single, old fat drinking men, and you'll know that if one of them in your room cuts a whole forest at night making you not sleeping 5 minutes. Waste of money.

Really nice Albergue, it usually fills up very fast as it is located just near the cathedral and in the center, small rooms for up to 4 people, homy feel.. Just make sure you book it in advance. Cozy beds and showers, nice kitchen.

Worst alburgue in my solo 759k Camino de Santiago. There is no onsite manager, cleanliness minimal. Safety 0. At 1 am a group of drunken loud Irish tourists, definitely not pilgrims ,arrived and woke the entire alburgue. When I asked them to please let us sleep, a 50ish year old male shouted at me that they had the right to "let off steam". Very unsafe no protection, security from out of control guests. I would not recommend this hostel and warn families and women to the nature of its lack of safety and security.

The albergue is very well located. It is in a very old building and you have to be prepared for lots of stairs. The best thing about it is the wonderful staff. Juan really really helped me today getting my backpack transferred. Correos had done a super job for many days. However they did not inform me that they do not move backpacks within the same city. I am 73 years old and at the end of my Camino simply could not carry the pack the hilly blocks I needed to meet my friend in another albergue. As usual I was on hold for a very long time trying to work things out. Juan to the rescue. He had an “ in” to bypass the “ hold line” and by the time I walked over my pack was just being delivered. Magic!

Pros: Very helpful staff Cons: 1- loud frilling and construction work taking place next door, 2- people checking in after around 1am in the morning. 3-Not covid 19 compliance ( 4 people in 6 bunk beds should be 3) 4- located within close proximity from the church with the bell ringing every 15 throughout the night so forget about getting some sleep. 5- people sleeping in the living room Worst place I stayed in during the camino Portuguese. I wish I spent more money to get a much needed rest after a long hike

It’s very friendly and quiet hostel. The receptionist, Susana who was super helpful, I have to catch very early flight next day and she made calls to Albergue for me and arrange the delivery to airport along,I am very appreciated and grateful after long Camino.

Old bldg with noisy stairs and a bit run down. Busy place due to proximity to cathedral. Noisy street so 1st floor front room is not the best to stay in. Needs another bathroom. Duvets need washing more frequently. Appreciated the daily cleaning, the kitchen upstairs & living room though it needed cleaning. Nice to have wifi & laundry machines.

Great location, but 45 euros for a single bed is madness!

All night music and drinking outside open window, dirty bathroom. No one overnight to report bedbug bites. I stayed there the one night first week of October 2017. Overpriced IMO.

The rooms are nice and the balcony of our room was super nice, location is great in the middle of the town. There is a Kitchen but no stove so you cannot cook and just 2 bathrooms which is not enough. The service was okay but not super welcoming.

For its price, it has a great service and location. I went during the Holy Week so I paid the ff: regular - 18 Holy Week - 22 I especially enjoyed the terrace. The beds were comfortable. The blanket is warm. There are sockets and mini-lamp next to the bed. Downside is, if your legs are hurting (esp. after doing the Camino), you'd need to go up and down often.

👍👍 Definitely worth trying theirs tortilla! They offer it here just as a side dish with every drink you ask, even water. Prices are not low here but also not high, it serves just normal dishes you can find in other places. The interior of the restaurant wasn't cosy as for me, tables and chairs are too...
