This is currently my favourite coffee place in Tokyo 🤩 The almond latte is so tasty!!! It’s a Japanese style coffee place, with plentiful of options and snacks. Minimalistic and very comfortable interior. As an improvement point, wish there were more seats inside (they only have benches enough for 4 people), but all’s good! Can’t wait to be back. ❤️

If you are in Ginza searching for the best latte in Tokyo or just a damn good cup of coffee than Bongen Coffee is the place to go. Seriously though, the Bongen Latte is delicious. It uses a higher ratio of espresso to milk than most Japanese coffee shops and that, plus the quality of the bean, makes for my favorite Tokyo latte. In addition, the ambiance is incredible—who doesn’t love a beautiful bonsai tree? The one thing that is missing is seating, but in hindsight, that’s probably for the best since if they had good seating I would never leave!!

It took me an hour to get the coffee because there were 2 staffs, one of which was the barista and the other who took orders and served them. However, that was worth it. I ordered a premium matcha + medium roast espresso. It tastes amazing. Matcha and espresso tastes complement each other well. I'd definitely come back.

The roasted green tea espresso is a MUST try here! It’s the perfect level of sweetness and the tea and coffee flavor pair so perfectly together. We loved this drink so much we came back the next day to get it again. I also tried the Bongen latte which was good but didn’t compare to the tea + espresso. There is not much seating inside and there is a queue during peak hours. Highly recommend!!

A Trendy Coffee Haven with a Unique Experience! BONGEN COFFEE Tokyo Ginza is a small coffee shop that has gained quite a reputation, and it's easy to see why. From the moment you step inside, the trendy design and simple interior create a stylish and inviting atmosphere. However, be prepared to face a long line, as BONGEN COFFEE is often bustling with customers eager to get their caffeine fix. The popularity of this place is a testament to its unique charm and the quality of its offerings. While the coffee at BONGEN COFFEE is undeniably good, it's worth noting that the prices are a bit on the expensive side. This might be a deterrent for some, especially those on a budget. However, if you're willing to splurge a little for a special coffee experience, BONGEN COFFEE is worth considering. Their signature coffee blends all use robusta beans, which tend to impart a stronger and more bitter flavor profile. While this might be appealing to some coffee enthusiasts, if you prefer a milder and less bitter taste, it's worth keeping in mind. Despite the robusta beans' bitterness, the overall coffee experience at BONGEN COFFEE is still commendable. The baristas are skilled in their craft, creating well-crafted and visually appealing drinks. The attention to detail and dedication to their craft is evident in every cup. Beyond the coffee, the staff at BONGEN COFFEE are friendly and knowledgeable. They are passionate about their craft and are happy to answer any questions or provide recommendations based on individual preferences. If you're a coffee lover seeking a unique and trendy coffee experience, BONGEN COFFEE Tokyo Ginza is definitely worth a visit. Just be prepared for a potential wait and consider your preference for robusta beans before ordering. While the prices may be a bit steep, the overall experience and quality of coffee make it a worthwhile splurge. So, if you're in the area and looking for a memorable coffee experience, give BONGEN COFFEE a try! Taken here by a close friend who had been raving about this place for some time. Lines can get very long here but we were lucky to arrive during a surprising lull period on a weekday afternoon walk. We opted for the signature Bongen latte and the staff were very friendly and attentive, but did want to note upfront that the price is quite high and the serving size is smaller than you get at other coffee shops. (They also offer extremely premium coffee bean options at much, much higher price points, so be careful in case they try to upsell you and you weren't paying attention!) Our wait time was minimal and the long line had been restored by the time we left. The coffee itself was excellent, but would only be worth the hype for me at a lower price point and larger serving size.

This is officially the longest wait for coffee I’ve ever had. It took us 90 min to queue and another 15 min from ordering to getting our coffee. They made it an art to extend the coffee experience. And the only person I know, who would wait happily and with excitement is my sis in law 😉 Coffee wise, the Bogen Latte Rich was amazing. It was flavoursome and you could taste the robustness of the coffee. Definitely recommend it. However, probably not worth 2 hours of my holiday time. Verdict - unlikely to come back.

Best coffee in Ginza area! Visited the place in 2020 before the pandemic and now in 2023, it has become famous! Do be ready to queue, but it is so worth the wait. A one-man show, so please be patient if u decide to try it! I highly recommend: 1. Flat white with bogen blend ( creamy but deep espresso flavour) 2. Matcha latte + espresso (sweet but also a deep rich espresso flavour)

Crazy line. We arrived a little after 10am and we waited for under 90 minutes because they only have one barista at the time. Was it worth it? Yes. The latte, hand pour, matcha espresso and beans were worth it. I recommend coming early to avoid the long wait. We got the bongen latte rich, bogen latte, hand pour and cold matcha espresso. All were exquisite. What stood out were the polished flavors of the lattes and how beautifully the matcha and espresso actually complemented each other. The flavors did not feel forced. They also have a wide selection for hand pour. I loved mined. I bought 20 drip bags to take home and I love how its naturally sweet and smooth with minimal bitterness at the end.

Bo gem is absolutely one of my favorite places to grab a coffee in Tokyo. The espresso is amazingly rich and delicious! The shop also sells several types of whole beans so you can enjoy this at home. They have quite a few different types drinks to choose from, including various espresso related drinks. We also discovered chocolate covered coffee beans at our last visit! Highly recommend that you visit. If you get a seat, count yourself lucky!

This has to be the best coffee in the whole of Tokyo! The coffee shop is located on a quiet street in the upscale Ginza district. The shop has a reputation for its high-quality coffee, which is made using carefully selected beans from around the world, and its minimalist and stylish interior design. BONGEN Coffee is owned and operated by Hidenori Izaki, a renowned coffee expert and the winner of the World Barista Championship in 2014. The shop's menu features a variety of espresso drinks, pour-over coffee, and seasonal specials. They also offer a selection of pastries and light snacks to complement the coffee. One of the unique aspects of BONGEN Coffee is its emphasis on the brewing process. The shop features a variety of different brewing methods, including the Hario V60 pour-over and the Aeropress, and each cup of coffee is carefully prepared by a skilled barista. The shop's interior is designed to create a calm and relaxing atmosphere, with simple wooden furniture and a neutral color scheme. There is limited seating available, which creates an intimate and cozy environment. While it is a popular spot for locals and tourists alike, the limited seating means that there may be a wait during peak hours. However, the high-quality coffee and serene atmosphere are well worth the wait for coffee lovers looking for a unique and refined coffee experience.

The best matcha latte with espresso I've tried. The matcha flavor is a bit stronger than coffee and it is not so sweet. Good balance for me. The shop is very small and can only accommodate 6 people. You will mostly do a take out.

Arrived at 10 am and waited an hour to get the coffee, there was only one barista that’s why the queue is so long. However, this is a gem for coffee lover, the bongen latte rich with dark roasted was so good, rich and creamy. Wanted to go back (if the line wasn’t that crazy).

I discovered @ginza_bongen while looking for good coffee shops in the area, and omg it must be one of the best coffee I’ve had in Tokyo! There’s a short line outside even before they open in the morning, and the baristas are very attentive to details so it does take a bit. Most definitely is worth the wait, and their coffee beans for purchase are packaged so beautifully. Next time I’ll have to go back and buy some of their merchandise!

This coffee shop is like a hole in a wall, but that is the entire concept of this hidden coffee shop gem. My friend and I stopped by here after a long morning exploring Tokyo, and it took us a couple of wrong turns to find this hole-in-a-wall place. There was a long line when we arrived at this coffee shop, and it took us 30 minutes to get our order. The space inside can barely fit four people to sit by the wall, and on the other side is where the line starts. My friend and I waited outside and sat on the street curb, chatting while waiting for our orders. By the time we got our coffee, we were so stoked about how it would taste that it did not disappoint us. The coffee bean taste was strong, and the flavor combination of coffee and matcha was the perfect blend of bitterness and sweetness. If you are like me, who travels the world to explore coffee shops and restaurants, this can be one of the places you should check out in Japan.

Had the Bongen Latte double shot, and it felt like a solid punch to my face. Hard, sobering and slightly masochistic as it felt really good. Their coffee blend is simply amazing and I would recommend it to any coffee lover, or even coffee fence sitters. Rich, depth in flavour without it being bitter. The only downside to Bongen was its queue. Was here on a Saturday morning and the wait was almost an hour half. That's a lot of time spent queueing and waiting for a coffee. It is a small shop, and with snaking queues, there is really no space to drink in the shop. But after waiting for so long, you wouldnt want to hang around to finish your coffee either. I would return, on weekdays only when the queue would hopefully be a maximum of 30mins tops.

Great spot for coffee in Ginza, albeit a little out of the way. It’s a small shop, with maybe 4 seats inside. The coffee is obviously the star of the show, and you can get some small sweets to go with it. Service was great, and I will make a stop next time I’m in the area. Try it out.

Probably one of the best coffee shops in Tokyo. Their coffee is definitely worth the trip! There are plenty of different coffee options to choose from and, they serve matcha! Although there is limited seating, it's definitely worth the visit. Also, you can take a look at their 100+ yr old Bonzai Tree!

Stopped by here on a rainy day, from line to coffee in hand took about 1.5 hours. Got the Bongen latte medium roast. This was one of the best cups of coffee I've had in recent memory. That being said, would I wait another hour or longer again? Tough to say.

All you need on a snowy day is a cup of hot coffee ❤️ Randomly scrolling in my Google Map and found this amazing boutique coffee shop. Love the atmosphere and the coffee itself! Ordered two cups of coffee today: 📍BONGEN Latte Rich (970 YEN) 📍Hand Drip : Columbia (760 YEN) definitely enjoy BONGEN Latte more than the hand drip. The strong coffee flavour with the tasty milk was the best in this weather. It's great that such small shop also offered several seats for customers , that's definitely hard to see in HK. ***as it is a small shop, so there was only 2 staff on the day when I visited. Please be patient and wait, the staff will definitely serve you eventually. Thankfully the day I went, I simply had to wait for 10 mins for this amazing coffee 😁

Cafe latte, milk or soy, is so tasty, so is their cappuccino. This is a popular spot. People come and go, there isn’t much space for more than 5 people. Sometimes, I have to drink the coffee outside but it really worth buying at this cafe.

When the mood is just right. A beautifully designed interior and space paired with a relaxing ambience and chill barista. Just a great selection of coffee and lattes to choose from. The menu is in Japanese and English tacked to the side of the wall. To get away from the crowds of Ginza, this is a wonderful pitstop. Recommend ordering the deliciously sweet red bean-filled Kintaro with your drink.

It's very pretty coffee shop with a variety of espresso based drinks. You can also buy beans and coffee drips here. Although variety of coffee beans are not so big. The only sourish option in drip bags didn't taste that great. I'm not sure about how well is the barista here, because my coffee (Bongen special) was extremely hot - I couldn't even hold the pretty cup I was given, and the latte-art was just a blob 🤭 Anyway, not a must, but might be nice to pop by, if you are exploring in that area.

The double espresso was perfect. Great balance of flavor. Worth a 45 min wait at opening time on a Saturday. Edit: Went back the next day for more delicious coffee. The mocha was superb, but the highlight was the sweet mochi in espresso topped with soybean flour. Could easily have one of those everyday.

Bongen Coffee makes amazing coffee. I visited multiple times after trying out their matcha espresso latte. The matcha was sweet but paired with milk and the dark roast espresso, it is not too sweet and worth a try. I think the Americano and normal latte are better with a medium roast than a dark roast. I’m allowing forward to trying the light roast the next visit. I tried the dessert and it is a crispy wafer with red bean jam inside which I thought was too sweet for me. If you like sweet desserts then maybe it is worth a try. There is one to two people working at any time so even if you see a small queue it may take a little while to get your drink. When it is busy and there is one person working, the barista takes orders from 5 people and then makes their orders. Matcha Espresso Latte: 8/10 Bongen Latte: 7.5/10 Americano: 8/10 Visits: 4

An owner owned coffee house who serves an enchanted cup of coffee to those who loved the aroma. Price is affordable too for this pleasure. The owner prepares each cup wholeheartedly and the coffee turns out to be great. It is one of the better coffee I have tried in Tokyo and better than those chain shops. Take note that the queue will be long and I waited 30 mins for my turn (with 5 person in front of me). The interior is well decorated and there is a bonsai in the back. The shop is quite small and cosy and seats are limited (only 2) so it is best to order takeaway to enjoy your coffee slowly.

Came here during weekends around noon. Waited for 50 mins to get my coffee😅 I got iced bongen latte. Although I picked medium roast and it is quite strong but blended well with milk. People who like strong coffee taste will like this place. Another one is iced rich bongen latte. It is the darkest, strongest coffee Bongen has to offer. I found it a bit too strong. The coffee overpowers the milk my a lot and it’s not really blending well together. A lot of tourists so you need to be patient as there are 3 clerks working on weekends. (I heard only 1 person working on weekdays so it would still take a long time to queue). Good for trying but if I have to wait that long, there are other better coffee options in Tokyo.

One of the best coffee in town. 4 selection of high quality beans to choose from including rare light and medium roast category. The highest end of the day was Panama Geisha clocking in at eye watering 3980 yen 😂 While the acidity level is on the lower side than my usual preference the taste is super smooth. Be prepared for long queue which is usually 20-30 minutes long. Highly recommended for coffee aficionado 💯

(Translated by Google) I visited because of the many latte menus♪ This is the store I've always wanted to visit! There is a store quietly walked from Ginza station. There are many tea-based latte menus such as the ☆ Japan, which are menus that are conscious of foreigners. Matcha latte or hojicha latte... There is also a sweet sake latte! *Hojicha + Espresso I didn't see this drink anywhere else, so I thought it was unusual, so I ordered it. The slightly bitter taste of espresso was delicious unlike the usual Hojicha latte♪ Do you have two chairs in the shop that smells good coffee? There is a place to sit down. It's hard to go slowly, but if you drop in Ginza, I definitely want to visit again!

Quaint little coffee shop. designed to be more of a take out place rather than a sit down location as there is only 1 small table with 2 seats. I got the roasted soybean latte as well as the mochi. The latte was well balanced with a really lovely roasted, warm, and woody flavours from the soybeans. the mochi was a little bit more intense with a espresso shot poured over a mochi ball then topped with soybean flour. I found the flavours to be a bit to overpowering and less balanced. Overall the atmosphere, the staff, and the coffee are all top notch! I highly recommend!

After 13days in Japan eating and drinking at alot of cafes. I rate this the best, this place looks more like an art gallery. The Barista gave me two options, house blend which is the creamier version or the fruitier blend with a stronger roast. Got the fruitier blend and I really enjoyed this more than the creamier lattes that Ive been having. But that doesnt stop there, grab their Mochi kinako Expresso dessert. It is possibly the best Coffee dessert I ever had, delicious mochi with soybean powder kinako filling- submerged into strong expresso shot. You get bold flavours with hint of creaminess and sweetness from the kinako, combined with the mochi chew. Blew my mind and wish I knew this place earlier. Would have gone for second or third coffee. Hand pour was very mild more like tea, but i would have wished to try their matcha and amazing soy latte next time!! Coffee lovers, if you travel to Tokyo, this and coffee Mameya should be in your itinerary.

We went out of our way to find this place as it was the "best rated coffee in Tokyo". Keep in mind this is after being in Japan for 2 weeks (Japan doesn't do very good coffee) and having poor coffee every place we went to prior to this. Overall the coffee was the best Japanese coffee we had, but on an absolute scale, wasn't anything special. It was also very expensive (630 yen) for a very very small cup.

Beautiful little coffee shop with minimalist decor. I was craving a matcha latte but also needed my fix of caffeine so I ordered a single espresso of the signature blend as well as the matcha latte. Both were delicious, the barista gave me the espresso with a little glass of ice water as well which was very thoughtful. Highly recommend!

This coffee is really stylish and minimal , providing three seats only. The coffee here provides two different coffee beans, one is signature bean while another one is premium. I ordered soy latte and caramel latte. Both of them tastes really good! The soy latte is so smooth and the soy milk is so tasty. While the cameras latte is sweet and milky, with nice hint of aroma. Recommended!

The best cortado I have tasted in Tokyo. Prepared carefully. May have to wait a bit as the place is small.

  • 5/5 Daniele H. 4 years ago on Google
While lacking in presentation, it’s by far the smoothest and tastiest cortado in Tokyo. Recommend the Uganda bean; similar to Ethiopian it has a sweet tone. The decor is synonymous with other high end Tokyo coffee shops where the ambiance is incredible and zen like :) very different from the west coast coffee scene that’s for sure!

Coffe with wonderful aroma, quite a bit of selection too. Place too small with very limited space to seat though. Only 1 staff so expect to wait in line for a little bit. Wished I could seat, relax and enjoy.

FYI: there is hardly any space to sit down and enjoy their coffee. Otherwise, their coffee was quite good. We enjoyed it very much. The atmosphere of the shop is very classic Japanese. Very nice and calm feeling. Make sure to check the menu before you order your coffee. It can be very expensive. Our pour overs were 1900yen and 1000yen. ( About 29$ USD)

Great coffee, quaint place and hidden away from the main street of Ginza. Definitely a good place to grab one before u continue to shop. The place cna get a little full and the place is just limited. So do expect that most likely it will be to-go coffee

Japanese hand dripped coffee. One by one carefully made by hand. Actually more like a coffee stand than a cafe. Usually long long line since they open in the morning. Recommended to come in evening which most of the people don't drink coffee. Coffee beans are available. A few seating space.

As an avid coffee drinker, I must say I had the best espresso I’ve ever tasted here. I had to do 2 doubles shots of espresso. The beans were light roast Honduras that comes with a very fruity aroma with a hint of sourness.

  • 5/5 J M. 8 months ago on Google
Really great spot for Espresso and their various milk mixtures, flat white, 3 types of cafe latte, etc… I tried the cafe latte cold, regular version (there is a Bongen and a Bongen rich versions in addition to the regular). Coffee is great, had 3 selection of beans to choose from, Dark, Medium and Light roast, all from different regions and countries. Will highly recommend! The only drawback for such a great coffee spot is that it is tiny! It only has a wooden bench that can sit 3 people max. Highly recommended place for coffee, in an area where there are already great coffee shops, so they stay afloat on their competition for great coffee selection and providing the best Espresso possible.

Their speciality beans & oat milk latte was just so yummy, not the sour type. It tasted so good that I had to buy a packet of their specialty beans back home Match espresso was even better! Try it!!

One of the best coffees in Tokyo in my opinion. Expect a wait because the barista single-handedly manages the shop, but it’s well worth it. The honey latte was full-bodied and balanced, wasn’t too sweet either. I do wish there were more seats available in the cafe to enjoy the coffee a little longer.

Queued for about 45 minutes on a Tuesday morning at 11:00am for this SNS famous shop. It’s a small shop serving great espresso, with matcha and houjicha latte combinations available. I got the Houjicha latte with espresso, iced, and was able to change milks to soy milk. The flavors paired nicely together: neither overpowered the other and both flavors were incredibly rich. The line is long, but the service is kind, the taste is great, and the ambiance suits the space and size of the place. Definitely worth the visit for a slower-paced morning.

Excellent coffee, lives up to the hype. Be prepared to wait in line. I arrived about 15 min before opening and there was already a decent line, I got my coffee about 50 minutes after it opened. As long as you are prepared to wait, it’s definitely worth going to.

The line and the wait is real!!! Be aware it could take an hour to get a coffee. But the staff was so nice and make the drink really fast💨 I tried Bongen Rich Latte. It was so good Best coffee I’ve tasted in Tokyo. Coffee tastes strong, goes well with smooth steamed milk! Matcha latte is also yummy surprisingly 🤩
