Nicely decorated and with a bit of flair. The food was very good. I tried the deconstructed tartar and the pork steak. The steak was very soft and tender like pulled pork. Probably received a few hours of love in some oven. The tartar looked like a burger patty outside but raw and soft on the inside. Unique; as one would expect, from a bit of tartar experience, that it be red. Also both dishes had a splash of hot sauce on the side that allowed me to experiment a bit with the flavors. Local wine selection was also decent. I have to add though that the service was not the fastest or most attentive. To be fair the restaurant was empty when I dined there. A bit more interest by the waiter would have escalated this rating by one star.

Very nice food. Service pretty good. Lovely place in general. Prices fair. My rabbit ragout was lovely. Mrs T liked her tiger prawn salad. Just felt slightly looked down on. You can hear the chef singing from the patio and the music in the open kitchen is audible over the quite loud inside background music. But still good value over all. would go back but not rush back.

Risotto and pork steak was good but the salad was a huge disappointment. So much old brown lettuce (as in photo) and ingredients nor flavor was nothing special. Made me sad to eat that salad in a restaurant. Pity.

I saw other reviews about poor service. Unfortunately, this was also our fate. My wife and I were seated outside. Tired from walking all day. The waiter was serving wine to three young ladies next to us. Then he went away. We saw him inside watching football on TV. After 10 minutes, we asked another waiter for menus. Our waiter Ivan finally brought menus. We were able to order sparkling water before he disappeared again. Poor service and football viewing continued all evening. I had octopus in the iron bell, and my wife had shrimp risotto. The octopus was overcooked. I liked the risotto, but my wife did not like it. The chef could have added a couple of shrimps to the risotto.

We took the kids here and dined in the ancient and atmospheric courtyard. The lively Tom yum soup was a hit, the mains were of a high standard - some relatively affordable. Good wine list. Service friendly and attentive. We would happily return.

The food was absolutely beautiful and full of flavors and the place itself it’s cute. Specially, the tables at the backyard service was average.

Great restaurant with really interesting menu. They really are different so if you're a foodie then this is a great place for dinner. The menu is sparse with detail so definitely make sure to ask the serving staff for more info. Things often aren't what they seem (but in a good way).

Beautiful venue. My tuna was so fresh and cooked to perfection. Loved the smokey flavour. The pork was also sensational and melted in your mouth. Friendly service with a 5* touch.

Top-notch dining experience in Old Town with a personal touch. Being part of a family with multiple establishments in the Las Vegas restaurant scene since the 60s, I can truly appreciate exceptional hospitality. Upon arrival, the owner's warm greeting sets the tone, standing out among other places lacking in the art of first impressions. The service, exemplified by our server Toma, was impeccable. His affable demeanor, extensive knowledge of food and wine, and keen attention to detail matched the level of a 5-star establishment. Of course, the highlight was the outstanding food. From the endive salad to the rabbit ragu, mezzo paccheri, and concluding with a delightful tiramisu, each dish was a burst of flavors impeccably cooked and artfully presented. The wine selection also complemented the meal beautifully. For fellow restaurateurs and servers, this experience at Mazzgoon is a masterclass in successful operation, far surpassing the norm. Their expertise shines from the front of the house to the back. This restaurant's excellence could easily thrive even in Vegas, where many from old town would shutter before their first month due to lackluster of service and mediocre cuisine.

We found this place quite by chance and lucky for us as it was a fabulous evening. The staff couldn't do enough for us, giving us the perfect table out side under the stars. The food is lovely, prepared with pride and attention to detail. Each course was more delicious and the Croatian wines were a revelation. The twist with the mussels were a delight, the pork was scrumptuous as was the pasta and veal. We enjoyed the food, wine, atmosphere and staff so much we went twice during our 8 days in Split. Highly recommend and will of course be back.

What a gem! Tomo our server guided us through the menu to the best of what the restaurant has to offer. The food, service and atmosphere was top knotch. Highly recommend! You'll need a reservation during dinner hours. Dine on the terrace.

The food at Mazzgoon is SO GOOD. We had the rabbit ragout and chicken pate. A couple critiques would be slow service, small wine pours and loud (country?) music.

The food was really good and the place is nice and cozy to sit. We felt uncomfortable by the waiter. He was pushy with the wines. And when we told the waiter the glasses of wine were “half” glasses, he was laughing at us and asked if we are americans. I think that is not the way to treat your clients.

Excellent food! I had the sashimi, which was „flooded“ with a hot sauce at the table, and the slow (5-6 hours) cooked pork. The best I ever had.

Great menu , amazing location. We sat in the lovely courtyard flanked by the palace walls. Food and waitstaff were top notch!

Mega place to eat and drink! Just stumbled across this, started with a cocktail in the tiny bar while we waited for a table, then sat in the restaurant listening to the live music. The food was amazing, so different to anything else I’ve had in Croatia. I think the Tuna starter is a real showcase dish, definitely worth trying! The monkfish was just perfect and the portion size were just right. Great wine - great atmosphere - great night!

Outstanding local restaurant with excellent food and vibe. We started with the deconstructed beef tartare and ordered the octopus under iron and tuna stake as main and we couldn’t be happier. Everything was delicious and cooked perfectly.

A spectacular dining experience. Interesting dishes with a local twist. The courtyard does not feel crowded even if the restaurant is full. A great selection of wines and knowledgeable waiters to recommend dishes and pairings. The rabbit ragut is a must try in town.

Great atmosphere, service and food. We ordered a number of dishes to share between three and enjoyed everything — the porcini carbonara was probably my personal favourite. We also ordered the cheapest white wine on the menu and it was delicious!

The atmosphere was quite nice, the patio is sometimes interrupted by folks who live in the apartments above, but it was not an issue. We enjoyed dinner, the food was good but lacked depth, and the service was lackluster. We had the risotto with shrimp and lardo, and the Slovenian black pork steak.

Loved the food! And the staff are so hospitable and caring. They really understand each dish and right pairing of drinks. Great experience

What a magical night (literally). We stumbled apon this beautiful place. Managed to get the last two seater table. We were spontaneously given a magic slight of hand trick at our table by the owner. Who was very charasmatic amd brilliant at what he does. (French man, sorry forgot your name). Our waiter and wine expert Tomo was unbelievably talented and made our evening by giving us insights into the history of the wine and the passion behind the food. He is super experienced and kind and a genuine special person. Just overall the best meal / experience of our holiday. Candlelit dinner tables, dramatic architecture and ambience. Each bite of food was like a trip into tastbud land and the wine was excellent too. Tomo also shared some history and tatses of the old dessert wines, so we learnt so much. Thank you very much! Hvala Va! X

I stumbled across this place looking for a soup to cure my hangover. LISTEN this is one of the best fish soups I have had in my life. It's so good I felt compelled to write a review while still at the restaurant. Maybe my expectations were low, idk... but it really hit the spot and I feel my hangover getting better already. Anyways, the staff were super friendly and helpful. I'm gonna see if I can get this soup to go as well.

What an accidental find! The most incredible flavorful meal we have had all week in Split. Service impeccable, thank you Thoma! Whatever you do, this restaurant is a must if you are in Split. I had the tuna and it was presented under a smoke dome! Do not pass this up

Had a great meal in here. Lovely service, fantastic food and great location. There is a small courtyard in the back, away from the busy streets which gave it a nice, quieter atmosphere than most other restaurants with seating on the street. Highlights were the charcuterie board, slow cooked pork pasta and the tuna steak

Very romantic restaurant with friendly staffs and nice tasting meals. The meals aso looked very nice! Worth the money and not a tourist rip off restaurant.

Fantastic food and wine with a great staff. Dined outside, in the winter under a heatlamp. The charcuterie is enough for three!

Thank you Mazzgoon from a grateful vegetarian! So good we ate there twice in 2 days. I struggled to find vegetarian options in Croatia at first (other than side salads or simple pasta) so Mazzgoon was a hidden gem for me! We walked past once or twice, seeing the 3 tables on the tiny side street, not realising there was a beautiful courtyard at the back. I'm so glad the friendly lady at the front chatted to us and showed me the menu options otherwise I may never have discovered Mazzgoon. I had a delicious raw noodle pad Thai that was surprisingly filling, full of sticky peanut and sesame flavours, and I returned the next day to try the seaweed, asparagus and goat cheese salad which had lovely Japanese flavours running through it. My husband had a fantastic smoky risotto that he absolutely loved. The homemade breads were incredible, so soft and perfect with the lovely Croatian olive oil. The staff were really helpful guiding me to wines that I might like (and I did - their wines were all really great!)

A tasty new take at traditional dalmatian recipes; a very rich Tom-Yum variation, loaded with local fish, was followed by a scrumptious mussels-gratin, thanks to the memories of owner's Grandma. A pleasant intermezzo in a form of free amuse-geule (hand-made pasta, drenched in thick (also home-made) squid-ink mayonnaise, and topped with steamed scampi provided a welcome breather before the arrival of the grand main course: "tećada" - a hearty brodetto, full with fish, clams and crustacaeans. The wine list is mostly local, but extremely well chosen. Portion size is correct and satisfying. Excellent price-quality ratio. Highly recommended.

Great service. We had someone with intolerance in the group and the chef even came out to make sure that everything was fine. The food was really good and the waiter super friendly. Totally recommended. Also the price for the amount of food was really fair.

👍👍 The wings were bbq style saucy and a little spicy. I love spicy so I asked for hot sauce and the waiter brought over a trio of their own signature hot sauces.
