George Nicholson Memorial Trail

Hiking area

πŸ‘πŸ‘ Nice trail which leads out to the canal entrance for the ships coming in from Lake Ontario. Would be an ideal spot to view the ships coming into the canal if that’s your thing. Nice bench to view the lake near the light house at the end of the trail. People often mention trail, walk, Lake, walking, Welland, Canal, Nice, Ontario, great, Great,

I actually don't want to review this place because it will attract visitors but its a beautiful walking trail on the lake that has many hidden paths and gems. Make sure you use the bathroon 1st though. πŸ˜‰

Flat hard packed trail along the Welland Canal out to Lake Ontario, then on to a lighthouse with gorgeous views on eastern Niagara farmlands all the way to Niagara on the Lake. Off to the left, watch the ships travel west on the lake, on their way to Toronto, Hamilton, or through the canal system to places like Chicago, Duluth and many other ports on the great lakes. Take your bike or your stolen or a wheel chair.

Great trail and views. You can explore more on a bike or if you love walking a lot.

Stop leaving "bio-degradable" Poo bags on or next to the trail. That's not how they'll actually biodegrade... and it's gross and lazy. There's a garbage can at the entrance.

St. Catharines Waterfront Trail: Port Welland and Port Dalhousie Two points of interest were Port Welland where you find the Welland Canal and Port Dalhousie. We hiked on the George Nicholson Trail which took us to the end of the trail where the Welland Canal meets Lake Ontario. The Welland Canal connects Lake Ontario and Lake Erie. Trivia: Welland Canal is one of ten best canals in the world, the more familiar and famous ones are the Suez Canal and the Panama Canal.

Very nice little walk out to the lighthouse and back, perfect for walking with kids as it is all flat gravel trail and not too far. Makes a nice short bike trail as well. Good for walking your dog as well though be aware that there are signs for poison ivy so you will definitely want to keep your dog on a leash if they like to roam in the brush.

Peaceful trail with a beautiful view of Lake Ontario. You can spend up to an hour walking the main trail from parking lot, to the lighthouse and back again. Really great spot for birdwatching or family walks!

Went for a hike in February. A little snow on the ground but as the trail is pretty flat, we did not encounter any problems. A little under 5 km from parking lot. Nice, easy walk.

Great place to walk, predominantly flat with good views over lake! Keep your eyes peeled for wildlife, on water, on land, in the air!

πŸ‘πŸ‘ This is a nice place for a walk, easily accessible, and for photographers, there's an abundance of wildlife around to exercise your shutter button. There is a fairly resident great blue heron that I've managed some decent photos of. Seems like he enjoys showing off for the camera. πŸ˜€
