I came here for lunch with my family. The place is very comfy. Very tidy and great sense of details. The food Japanese style was very good, especially because it was all made with natural ingredients and grown locally. The seasoning in these dishes are very delicate and let you feel the natural taste of the food you're eating. Service is warm and kind. This place is good for those who love to eat very healthy food, and who love nature. I also stayed in the private house next to the cafè called Komame, it is a wonderful, very well designed space. Tha house is new and by new I mean it has been restored from a storehouse into a traditional loft for families with kids from 10 years old and above. The carpentry is from the local craftsman Hida-no-Takumi with more than a thousand years experience in this beautiful field, but the taste is not only traditional till the minimum detail, you have the feeling that everything is in the right place. You have only what you need. First floor is the bedroom, private washlet toilet and another room for the bath. Very comfortable and spacious considering Japan! The second floor is more like a dining room with a low flooring table and counter kitchen. you have all you need for cooking and making wonderful tea. I love the light that permeates the whole house. I also love the tiny rectangular windows that follow the line of the mountains. You definitely have to stop by here to feel and experience what I mean and feel. The stay in the loft house has also a morning breakfast included (you have to go to the cafe), even the abundant breakfast is served with plenty of locally grown vegetables to handmade delicious simple dishes. from salty to sweet oh and fruits as well! The stay might be a bit far from the station, but my friend Tai (one of the family owners) is more than happy to bring you to the station and to pick you up. The owners of this whole dreamy and peaceful place are also youtubers! What can I say? I highly recommend this place. Luca, tours in Takayama from the Amicodelsolevante.com

This place is outstanding! The house is a converted warehouse with several guest rooms. Ours was 2 storied, with a living room upstairs, and 3 beds. The bathtub was wooden and large and the shower water pressure was amazing. The place had character, exceptional service, and we only wish we were not staying the one night. We could have easily hung around for their late check in and tried their lunch menu. The distance wasn't a problem as they were happy to come pick us up. They had a beautiful and delicious breakfast for us in the morning both traditional Japanese and western influenced. With amazing local flavours. They dropped us back off in the station but not before helping us navigate sending our luggage ahead

I can highly recommend the accommodation. Tai and his mother welcomed me warmly with tea and stollen on the evening of arrival and I immediately felt at home. The Japanese breakfast the next morning (and the morning after) was really delicious and beautifully prepared. The accommodation is a bit outside the city center, but Tai is very happy to drive you there and pick you up again. He even drove me to the nearby Skypark, from where you have a good view of the city and adjacent nature. The house also has a cozy lounge where you can sit by the fireplace and drink tea in the evening. After Tai's mother found out that I graduated just before the trip, I even received a small gift. I am really looking forward to the next visit when I go to Japan again! Thanks again for the great service (and gift)! :)

I cannot emphasize enough how amazing this place is. It was our favourite japan accommodation in our trip, would definitely recommend. We had high expectations given other good comments, but Tai and his family definitely exceeded them. The place in itself is a beautiful, wooden Japanese-style house with garden. Rooms are cozy and comfortable. Shower is great including water. What I loved the most is how thoughtful the decoration is, with small objects, books and artifacts in every room which make the atmosphere unique. Japanese breakfast is included and it was delicious. Location is 15 minutes from city center but you won’t even notice given Tai and his family will pick you up and leave you at the station. In our case, because we were planning to explore the city in the afternoon, they even left us in town in the morning, kept our luggage and brought it to the station later. As cherry on the top, if you are a foreigner, Tai speaks perfect English! He also made sure to make dinner reservations for us, which is not easy to do without speaking Japanese. Thanks Tai, and family for an amazing stay!

An amazing weekend filled with fantastic food, great company, and architectural delight! I stayed in the guest house which was perfectly cozy for a snowy weekend in Takayama. The meals prepared for me by the family were delicious every time, and I had great conversations with them (thanks to some help from a translator app!). If you're at all interested in architecture or interiors, you'll love this stay! As a designer myself, I enjoyed staying in a traditional Japanese timber building and getting to hear the history of the house from the hosts. Thank you!

I highly recommend Soy guesthouse, it was the best place that we stayed during our two-week trip in Japan! Tai and his family are very friendly, thoughtful and kind people who went beyond expectations to even give us home-cooked food. Tai speaks very good English and spent time with us to tell us about Japanese culture and answer all of our questions. The guesthouse is on the outskirts of the town but this was never a problem as Tai kindly drove us into town whenever we wanted and looked after our luggage on arrival and departure days. The guesthouse itself is beautifully decorated, comfortable and cosy, with a lovely living room and fireplace. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

This is a true gem! Tai and family are incredibly welcoming, hospitable, and create a warm and comfortable environment to relax. They make your stay very easy by transporting you around the town as needed. And the breakfast and food at the guesthouse was some of the most wonderful we had in our travels across Japan.

Super friendly host. The apartment is amazing. Although it is not located near the town center, the host will drive you around the city and pick you up whenever you needed. Tai-San and his family are lovely and super helpful. I can’t wait for my next visit to this lovely guest house

I warmly recommend Soy guesthouse! We were 3 friends being there for the Hachiman matsuri Festival, and our host kindly took our heavy bags and drove us to the morning market. At the end of the Festival he also drove us home and offered some cake and tea. It was a very comfortable break during our trip through Japan as the house and the food was very lovely. We felt like we were family just for one night... Thank you again 😊

We stayed 2 nights in June and loved the experience! Tai is very helpful and the guest house is run in such a thoughtful and cozy atmosphere. On top of all the great comments, we had the opportunity to drink tea and experience some of the Japanese rituals with the family! Such a great way - made us feel very special and we will never forget the experience. Arigato!

We spent 2 very enjoyable nights at Soy in late October. Everything about it beat our expectations, from the excellent service, lovely room, charming lounge area and great breakfast. If you want to visit the interesting historical sites around Takayama Soy is a high quality option at what we thought was a reasonable price.

Tai-san and his parents warmly welcomed us in their home for a couple of nights last month. We had a great time there. The house and the garden are both beautiful. The rooms are spacious, clean and very comfortable. Both breakfasts were very good! Tai-san was also super helpful picking and dropping us in Takayama or any other place when we needed it. We'll definitely come back during our next trip near Takayama!

We loved absolutely everything about our stay at Soy. The house itself is a beautiful traditional Japanese guest house. The food was an amazing home-cooked Japanese breakfast. But what really was special was the level of hospitality Tai and his family provided. Better than any B&Bs we’ve stayed in in the US. We only stayed one night, but they made us feel so special and were so incredibly helpful with coordinating our move to our next destination in our trip. While the guesthouse isn’t directly in city center, Tai shuttled us to and from where we needed to go and was incredibly responsive. You won’t notice you’re not downtown as this stay provides the same level of convenience. He also speaks great English so it’s a great spot for any international travelers.

I usually very rarely write reviews on Google, but my time at Soy was so nice that I have to mention it here. Not only Tai-san but the whole family is super friendly, so you feel right at home. Also the food there is absolutely fantastic and surpasses all other hotels I've been to in Japan. So if you are traveling to Takayama you should definitely book your stay at this wonderful accommodation!

Tai was incredibly attentive and kind. Here are the numerous ways he went above and beyond: -picked up our baggage at the station upon arrival -picked us up from a local bar once we were done exploring at 10:30pm -drove us to the rental car station and translated to make sure we got everything we needed from the station -explained in detail how to visit the local sites and how to get there -drove us to the exit to make sure we were on the right path to the local sights -dropped off our baggage at the train station prior to our departure late in evening when he probably had other guests to worry about. This doesn’t even cover the time spent at the hotel which was also excellent and far exceeded expectations. A monument should be constructed in honor of Tais kindness. A must stay destination.
