Ask Your Question Pazhavangadi Ganapathy Temple, Trivandrum Overview Being one of the most popular Ganesh temples of the south, the Pazhavangadi Ganapathy Temple holds a special place in the hearts of the locals and the ardent devotees of Lord Ganesh. The devotees who visit this temple are overcome with the tranquil calm and relentless peace of the magically pious atmosphere. They say that Lord Ganesh fulfils the deepest wishes and fixes the stubbornest problems of his devotees who visit him at the Pazhavangadi Ganapathy Temple. This opulent Ganpati Temple in Trivandrum is famous mainly for two reasons- its exceptional jet-black colour, a rare colour for temples in India, and its unique Ganesh idol. The position of the idol that sits in this temple is different from most others. Here, Lord Ganesh relaxes languorously with only his right knee folded under him as against his typically seen standing position or his seated position with crossed legs. The most common 'vazhipadu' or offering made to Lord Ganesh at the Pazhavangadi Ganapathy Temple is an open husked coconut which is cracked right at the temple. Breaking open this coconut symbolises overcoming any hurdles or obstacles that lie in the way of the fulfilment of one's innermost desires. Read More on Pazhavangadi Ganapathy Temple History & Legend of Pazhavangadi Ganapathy Temple The history of the erection of this temple dates back to the time when the Travancore Kingdom army as at war on the Padmanabhapuram front. The regiment was on guard at the fort but was continually harassed by a Yaskhi, a relentless demon. Every soldier was petrified of encountering this demon. One of these soldiers was an ardent devotee of Lord Ganesh and believed that the lord is always with him. When he was stationed at the fort, he was fearless because he knew that Lord Ganesh would protect him. When he went to the nearby river for his bath, he was surprised to stumble upon the idol of Lord Ganesh. The soldier considered this to be a good sign and decided to keep the idol with him at all times. The entire Travancore army was left undisturbed and unaffected by the Yakshi forever. Acknowledging the limitless power of this idol, a temple was constructed where the soldier had found the idol. However, when the headquarters of the Travancore Kingdom was moved to Trivandrum in 1795, they decided to move this holy idol with them. The present temple was erected in 1860 by the then reigning king Maharaja Ayilyam Thirunal, and unlike other temples, the Pazhavangadi Ganapathy Temple was maintained and looked after by the army.

This is the first temple I have seen after the Sri Anantha Padmanabha swamy Kovil. The murthy of Lord Vinayaka is quite pleasing and causes positive vibes. The entire environment in the temple makes a soul with full devotion to the gods. The sculpture and set in the temple are serene. Very near to the Padmanabhaswamy temple and on the main road corner. Heart filled with devotion. Jai Ganesh swamy 🙏🙏

I have visited and reviewed this place earlier, but the review has disappeared from Google!!! A couple of hundred metres walk from the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram, it is not a very large temple, but is quite well patronised and there is always a good crowd here. Darshan is normally a few minutes affair except on festival days when there will be long queues.

Lucky to visit at time of evening Aarti. If you want to visit closer to main idol then you must wear lungi, no need to take off shirt. It was heavy rush but things were orderly.

Pazhavangadi Ganapati temple located at Trivandrum is one of the most famous Ganapati temples in Kerala. This temple is managed by the Madras Regiment of the Indian Army. The main idol of Ganapati sits on a peedam with his right leg folded and trunk shifted to the right side. There are temples for Ayyappa, Durga and Nagas in the temple complex. Vinayak Chaturthi is the most important festival here. The temple is located in a busy crowded part of the city. So parking is a problem, especially for four wheelers. Two wheeler parking is available in the vicinity. No wheelchair accessibility.

Situated in the center of Trivandrum city is a great and ancient temple dedicated to Lord Ganapati. There is a lot of holiness and good energy within. You must be dressed in your dhothi in order to access "Nalambalam," as pants are not permitted there. Parking is challenging because of its position.

Beautiful Ganpathy temple . The temples in the South are so beautifully done with paintings and sculpture. This is located right at the corner. The temple is closed from 11.30 to 5pm. You need to wear traditional clothes to enter the temple. Leave ur shoes outside and deposit ur bags outside in a cloak room. It is a must visit place in Trivandrum. It is located very near to the Padmabhaswamy temple. Just the walking distance of 10min.

The temple's inner sanctum, where the main deity resides, exuded an aura of divine energy. Devotees, with folded hands and bowed heads, offered their prayers and sought solace in the presence of the deity. The rhythmic chants of sacred mantras filled the air, creating a sense of unity among all present.

Has deities of Ganesha, Ayyappa, Goddess Durga and Nagaraja. Crowded since it's famous. You need to wear dhoti in order to enter inside the temple. You shouldn't be having any luggage either. The outside vendors can charge you high for the coconuts and other pooja related stuffs. Enquire a few shops before buying these items.

A beautiful temple close to sree padmanabhaswamy temple. After finishing darshan at padmanabhaswamy temple, you can easily take a walk opposite to temple road sideways of kerala Bank and then turn left. The temple is at the corner of the road to your left. Google will help you. Small and easy darshan temple, no rush. You may find it difficult to park your vehicle nearby.

Autos will charge Rs 30 - 40 from Thampanoor bus stand/railway station to this temple. This is a small but famous temple which is situated in heart of Thiruvananthapuram city. There is no dress code in this temple but people visiting this temple are required to dress modesty. Did not find a temple run footwear keeping centre near this temple and people visiting this temple were keeping their footwear near the temple entrance. Breaking of coconut is the main offering in this temple. Photography is not allowed inside this temple. For travel/food pictures and information plz follow my insta account. Insta id: @shenoypradeep

The main Deity of the temple is Sri Mahaganapathy (Ganesha). The main idol is installed in a seated posture with the right leg in a folded stance. The temple is situated in close proximity to the Sri Padmanabhaswamy temple.

One of my favourite temples. Now with the recent modifications, it has become even more majestic. Those in Trivandrum who worship Lord Ganesha would have done darshan here and offered coconut for sure.

As a Hindu, can't visit Thiruvananthapuram and not break coconuts at this Ganapathi Temple. Amazing redo of the entire place, looks grander than before and Ganesha is supremely divine as ever. Parking can be tricky but it is a very accessible temple to the locals and all.

Temple that is both well-known and influential. When entering the sanctum, men are required to wear the "mundu" and have their chests uncovered. Believers are required to pay obeisance at this location before beginning any endeavour of significance. It went through a makeover not too long ago. The shattering of coconuts is a common activity here. The current stock of coconuts that are kept on the premises can be purchased at a significant discount in comparison to those that are sold in the surrounding area. Inside coconut available for Rs.16/- but outside Rs.20/- or more This temple was constructed by members of an ancient Indian army.

Amazing temple.. Amazing god Murthi (idols), very positive. But for archane, they charged 160 , for 4 names, and only gave chit, no pooja was done on the name, only gave the chit to take prasad. Felt a lil bad. God will anyway see us.. N everything. Just felt like, there's no value for bhakts here.
