All the food we ordered was superb. Best fish and chips I've had in a very long time, and the staff were really friendly. We'll be definitely visiting again and would recommend.

Popped in for an impromptu lunch and a coffee. Nice ambience and perfect lighting. In regards to my lunch, I can say it was the best Turkey, bacon and brie ciabatta I have ever had.

A very busy car park and pub in a lovely setting. The food was quickly served and well presented. Alicia was an excellent waitress. Food was good rather than excellent and good value for the location. A great centre for a walk of the Chess Valley. Checkout AllTrails app for details of the walk.

Excellent - a really top pub in a lovely village. Staff were very friendly and welcoming and out table outside on the covered terrace was lovely. Steak sandwich and burger really delicious and a good selection of beers on tap. Highly recommended!

Went with friends for lunch, nice friendly staff, good menu. Starters were nice, but our mains of chicken pie with mashed potatoes 🥔 was cold, didn't want to make a scene, so put the very good hot sauce on as much mash as we could .

Food was great, staff were great, pub was lovely. Everyone was very welcoming and attentive. Thank you for also taking note of us having an an elderly person in our group and seating us where it was warm with some heating. The attentive details matter. Thanks.

I consider myself a regular here and I always enjoy my meal. However tonight’s roast beef was exceptional! Potentially the best of my life…Every single aspect was incredible! Outstanding meal in a beautiful pub.

Great pub! Beautifully done, looks expensive but is actually not. Great food, great selection of beers, dog friendly, friendly but professional staff. This is also consistent over many years. A photo from 2019.

What a brilliant night. We celebrated my uncles birthday here and had a wonderful time. We were served delightfully by Ella and her brother who was on his first shift there. They made the night for us. So lovely to receive warm and bright service. Could not fault the meal ( except real chips would be the cherry on the top) steak was cooked to perfection and was a great cut. The surroundings are classy and spotless. Thank you so much.

Lovely pub/restaurant (more of a restaurant) with fires, lovely outside terrace, always had a good meal & friendly staff. Great sign when it's always busy on a Sunday!! I'm sure there is a disabled toilet on the ground floor... but I've only ever seen the toilets upstairs. I'd recommend checking if needed. Dogs also welcome in bar area and outside.

Chilly Thursday in mid-February. Warm and welcoming indoors. Lucky enough to get a table by the log burner. Excellent starters, mains and desserts menu; also a Lite Bites selection available until 5pm. Staff friendly and efficient.

Nice food and reasonably priced. The location is nice and the staff are very polite. Venue is tidy and well kept. The toilets had some issues but can’t be helped with an old building and when staff were informed they were already working on it and it was fixed quickly.

We have been here a few times and the food and service never disappoints. The menu has a creative flair and changes with the seasons so there is always something new to discover. I had the parsnip and pear soup which was delicious followed by the lamb of shoulder which was melt-in-the-mouth amazing. My boyfriend had the steak, ale and mushroom pie which was very tasty. The staff are always attentive and welcoming and the interior is a combination of cosy, country and modern. This has quickly become our favourite place to eat and we look forward to our next visit.

S P E C T A C U L A R. Elaborated food. One of the best I've ever tried in pubs. Very good atmosphere. Friendly and professional service. The village is wonderful for those who like to walk . A thousand possibilities. We will definitely come back.

This is a nice local pub, quite old fashioned but in a charming way. The staff are reasonably friendly and there’s plenty of seating in various nooks around the place. Fireplaces make it very cosy and welcoming on a cold day. We popped in shortly before noon and found a spot to sit near the main bar. We had coffee and then decided to stay for lunch; a soup for myself and fish and chips for my partner. The food was typical pub grub, nothing fancy but it was okay and reasonably priced. There are pamphlets in the bar indicating a circular walk through the neighbouring countryside and farms, which we ended up doing. We are keen walkers and pubs like this always make good pit stops. We are likely to pop in here again as we frequently ramble around this part of the Chilterns.

Never been here before, but nice warm welcome, very clean and tidy, cosy, old but new as well! Good looking menu and Christmas options, we enjoyed a goats cheese and fig brûlée starter, my wife had delicious tortellini(and I mean delicious) and I had the rich and tasty venison pie. Service was spot on..friendly, informative and quick. Great place to eat, thoroughly enjoyed it.

I’ve been to the crickets a few times and have always had a good experience, however after the last visit I won’t be returning. My partner and I visited for a birthday meal, we hadn’t booked as it was midweek during the day. The shift manager seemed annoyed at the fact we hadn’t booked, despite the fact the pub was mostly empty. After 10 minutes of being sat down no one had been over to see us. A gentleman on the table opposite got up and said “I’ve had enough of waiting, I’m paying my bill at the bar”. A further 10 minutes past and still no one had been over to ask what we would like to order, we decided to just leave, clearly the staff were too busy to take orders. As we left not one member of staff asked why were leaving, instead, 3 of them were stood at the end of the bar having a laugh and joke with the shift manager. Awful service.

Had a great experience here. Food was great although a bit pricey. The dessert was slightly underwhelming but can be overlooked because of the great atmosphere and friendly staff. Would come here again for Sunday roast!

We’ve eaten here for years and the food is always incredibly good, as is the service and country pub feel. However, we have been there 3 times over the last few weeks and they’ve not been able to serve us food - which as locals is disappointing that they serve passing trade but not look after their own local customers. Doubt we will be returning for a while until service return to its usual high level - and that we can actually get to eat.

We had a delicious Sunday lunch and desserts at the Cricketers this weekend, with super prompt and polite service from several members of staff. Plenty of space indoors around the tables and lots of tables outside under the canopy. We loved our time here, thanks, and we will definitely return!

We will definitely visit again and recommend to others. Our young waiter was very attentive and helpful. Our daughter has multiple food allergies so we really appreciated the Allergen Filter on the pub's website which we've not come across before. This made it so much easier to narrow down which meals were suitable for her and made the experience a lot less stressful.
