Easily the best Detroit style pizza spots in the city. I've tried Detroit, 8 Mile and Slowhand but this place is still the best Truff-Guy and Canadian are my two favorite pizza there The Electric Avenue is pretty good too with a nice jerk chicken flavor and spices Overall 9.5/10

A nice deep dish pizza from descendant! We ordered the small No Name pizza that comes w 4 slices and brought it to eat at the nearby park. Wonderful flavors from the meats, tomato and cheese, however the crust isn't super crunchy and gets soggy. Should call a head of time to order and pickup as it took about 30 minutes. Good pizza although not sure if worth the hype

WOW! I was really looking forward to trying these pizzas after seeing the photos but the taste surpassed my expectations. We got the Jaffna & Electric Avenue, with the latter being my favourite. The toppings were great and each pizza was decorated with delicious sauces that took them to the next level! They even added on a bit for hot honey for us without charge which was much appreciated. The staff were very friendly and informative when we had questions about what drinks they recommended, and the interior was uniquely rustic. My only wish is that they were open until 12am for latecomers like us! I’m looking forward to trying the rest of their menu.

Heard many good things about Descendants so I had to try it myself. Beautiful looking pizza if i do say so myself! Fantastic dough and crust. Lots of good options to choose from. I will say that it is quite pricey for the size of the pizza.

This pizza can only be described as magical. It allowed me to see in to the future, who needs Doc Brown and his DeLorean....I see myself coming here very often and for years to come. It shall be known that perfection can be found in the dictionary, but also at 1168 Queen St. East. Hilary Duff said it best when she sung "This is what dreams were made of". One bite and I was transported into a whole new world. I felt I was on a magic carpet  ride.  The combination of the crust, sauce, cheese and toppings was mind-boggling. It would legit make you question your very being.

My wife and I were in the area and have always wanted to try Descendant. It was a good alternative to the traditional pizza whether that be napoli style or not. It is reminiscent to a deep dish but very different in presentation. There is a nice crunch in the crust, airy dough, and a good balance of toppings. I am no pizza expert and haven't been to Detroit, but its a nice alternative, reasonably priced, and orders come out timely.

I’d say the food looks better than it tastes. I gave it 3 stars because it’s bang average, not bad but not that good either. If you go here I’d recommend getting a basic pizza. There specialty pizzas are not that special, they don’t allow for basic topping changes like substituting chicken for bacon. The pizza is cooked well and the atmosphere is good but there are better places in the city for pizza.

A few friends of mine has tried this place. Saw it on their social medias and decided to try it out next time I was in the neighbourhood. Calling ahead to order is probably the best course of action. Took about 30-40 min to prepare. The pizza itself lives up to the hype. Though like many things should be eaten right away. Definitely would try their other pizza options in the future.

One bite- everybody knows the rules! Tried this place after so much hype earlier this year (February 2021) it was amazingggg. The crust had an unreal crisp/crunch Good undercarriage, fresh ingredients Not too floppy, just the perfect amount of “deep” Solid 7.7 out of 10 but this place is still getting a 5 star review. I shall be back.

Very cool pizza place. I love how intimate it is being that it is small, cozy, and friendly staff. Your middle school self with thank you for the sweet music tunes of your early emo phase. Fall out Boy, Panic at the Disco, Linkin Park, Rock N Roll, Green Day, Etc. While you peruse the unique clipboard menu, the friendly staff greets you with tips and what they recommend. They offer two sizes. The small (4 Slices) was plenty big for one person and could even be split between two people. We ordered two different smalls, Cheese, and pepperoni. (Pictured above) I loved the unique Detroit style pizza with it's tasty crust. I would love to go back and try one with all of the toppings they offer. While the cheese and pepperoni were good, I feel the (No Name Pizza) unique hot honey, and other styles would really tantalize the taste buds. I will be coming back to try the No Name Pizza and can't wait to return. I loved the food, staff, and atmosphere!

Descendants is my favourite spot for pizza and it’s never failed me. All of them are really good but hands down the clear winner for me is the Electric Avenue. Note there is limited seating so takeout might be the better option. It does take a while to make the pizza so I recommend placing your order ahead of time so it’s ready for when you arrive.

Best Detroit Style pizza in Toronto period. The wait time is a bit too much so try to order before arriving. Beers are available here as well. Truff Guy and Our Canadian are my Favorites there. Place is a little small so try to visit during off hours if possible.

Awesome atmosphere, and great service. The problem with deep dish pizzas is that they can be heavy holding a lot of grease. But this pizza felt nice and light. Great experience.

I come here way too often, and for good reason. Service is always super friendly, and the deep dish cheese crust is fantastic. Every pizza I've tried here is amazing. Especially recc the Truff Guy, Gat Daddy, and Electric Avenue. One small pizza is more than enough for one person, you will have a food coma!

After hearing many reviews about Detroit styled pizza i happened to try it out myself. I ordered a small cheese deep dish pizza and the hype did not disappoint. The pizza was very cheesy and the crust was really good, crunchy yet soft . Definitely recommend this to anyone looking to try a more gourmet style pizza. Overall rating for this pizza is 8.1 /10.

Awesome pizza! There are several choices, one better than the other. The place is cozy and small and if busy, it maybe a bit difficult to move around but the service is really good regardless. Definitely recommended.

Always a fan of trying new pizza’s. Have had NY style in NY, next is Chicago & Detroit in their respective States… But THIS, this right hereeee. Is REALLLL good. Ended getting both small: classic Pepperoni & the literal “no name” pizzas. Came out, LAVA HOT AF, so please wait a bit before indulging. Took the first bite & that was it, convinced me to go back. The pepperoni is a classic, the pepperoni curls up, edges crusted & pools of oil in it, exactly how NY style is !! Making it messy, salty & greasy, but hella delicious 🤤 The “No Name” pizza had mountains of cheese, fresh toppings, the whole sch-bang !! Sweet, salty & a tad greasy. Idc bout my weight because I’m Asian. High metabolism, so I eat everything (but cats/dogs) So that being said & stating for a second time, I’ll be back to try the whole menu. Kthnxbaiiii

Tasted great! tried the "Truff Guy" pizza and I would recommend it tasted and looked great! Very innovative, would like to note it may be a bit pricy for some but regardless its great pizza. The park nearby is also a great place to sit and eat but they do not have disposable cutlery to provide so keep that in mind. Staff were very friendly. There is road parking available.

This was my first time trying Detroit-style pizza, and I was not disappointed! Descendant has been known as the go-to Toronto spot for this dish for many years, and now I know why. The interior decor is super nice, and the staff are friendly. You have the option of either dining in with a few tables available or takeout, I decided to do a mini-picnic at a nearby park. I got the Truff-Guy, one of their most popular ones, with ample portions of truffle aioli. I really enjoyed how well the truffle flavour paired with the cheese, bacon, onion, mushrooms, and other things in the pizza. I also like thicker-crust pizza, and this struck the perfect balance between being filling/substantial, but not too substantial the way Chicago deep dish pizza can be. All in all, a great experience. Will def come back to try their other pizzas.

Came here because I was in the area. I heard a lot about this pizza shop and how good it was so I decide to stop by after going to the beach with my boyfriend for some take out. I ordered prior via ritual which was the truff guy pizza and the barese pizza. Both pizzas were good, but I preferred the truff guy. It has more flavour and the garlic sauce definitely made it tastier. I liked how efficient it was and the process of pick up was seamless. They even provided me with plates and napkins which was perfect because my boyfriend and I decided to stop by riverdale park and watch the sunset and eat before we headed uptown.

A five star pizza place. Fully loaded mushroom on thick dough. Very fillable. Only have pizzas on the menu, should have more sides. Beer is available and tastes great and fresh. Staffs are nice.

It's worth the drive! Their No Name is THE GOAT of pizza in Toronto, periodt. The crust so thick and chrunchy yet the middle so gooey with cheese! Dayuuum. Their other pizza also no joke. But the spicy dip, oh man it makes your scalp on fire 🔥

Tried their Jaffna pizza. Very very interesting flavours I must say. A combination you wouldn't think goes together but it surprisingly does. Excited to try out more flavours. Also special mention to the service, ordered well in advance and they had my pizza ready to go as soon as I arrived.

Delicious is the only word to describe this pizza! The crust is so thick but not too bready. The cheese is baked into the base and the zesty marinara sauce is placed on top which is a surprising twist. My only complaint would be that it took an hour to prepare my order but it was well worth the wait. I am hooked and want to try other pizzas on Descendant's menu.

One of the best known Detroit style pizza places in the city, Descendant offers a unique mix of pizzas with some unique topping choices and are made fresh. The small pizza was very filling especially as they load it with toppings plus the pizza being a pan style pizza. Ordered the “no name” which was a very cheesy pizza with some spice due to the chillies and sausage added. Definitely a recommended pick of a fan of pizza or if in the Leslieville area. Best to pick a few small pizzas (4 square slices) to share with a group and try many of the pizza choices available. Also recommended to order as take out as there is limited dining space inside.

This place has AMAZING pizza and the environment is so honey. The establishment itself only has 14 seats, hopefully a patio in summer. The food and service is a totally awesome experience. They have beautiful ovens to cook pizza in and it is located in a beautiful spot. You have to experience this mouth watering pizza for your self.

Eagerly awaited this pizza as I do not live anywhere close to the area and it was everything I imagined it to be. Got the "No Name" with Cheese Blend, Ezzo Pepperoni, Italian Sausage, Tomato Sauce, Post-Oven Ricotta Dollops, Hot Honey, Fresh Herbs, Pecorino Romano, Calabrian Chilis removed. As my food partner does not eat spicy, I had the calabrian chilis removed, but I would have liked a bit more spice on this to balance out the sweet. Even with the chilis removed, it was still very much enjoyable. The crust was pillow soft on the inside but had a bit of crunch on the outside especially the crust which has that great melted hard cheese texture and flavour. The toppings were top shelf quality and fresh. Friendly service. Get a pie to go and eat it at the nearby park for a nice afternoon.

Descendant detroit style pizza is by far the best pizza I've ever had in all of Toronto and beyond. There is nothing like it. Crispy crust with absolutely amazing flavouring and the highest quality ingredients. It doesn't get better then Descendant Detroit style pizza. I can't wait to try out more options.

We went to Descendant for the first time on a Saturday afternoon. We were actually able to sit inside the restaurant since it was 4pm and not too busy. The pizza is very different (Detroit style) and comes with a thick but crunchy on the outside crust and the toppings were really delicious. The only critique I’d give is that the pizza did take a good 30 minutes to be ready from time of ordering but it did mention this on the menu and it was worth it! Would recommend!

TRUFF-GHI - STRONG mushroom flavour- the white truffle sauce is sooo good! - We got a side of House Ranch and dipped it with the pizza and jsandjasn, this combo was pretty good too LOL - Whole box came piping hot :D ELECTRIC AVENUE - Ngl, this was pretty spicy!!! So don't use as much of the hot sauce (Diablo’s Fuego hot sauce) if you can't handle it... - The crust was crunchy and delicious! OTHER Man, this place is so good! I pretty much have nothing but praise for it, and it was definitely worth the 45 minute wait- which was also extremely accurate as we came back exactly after 45 minutes and our order was ready to go. Both the pizzas had very fresh tasting ingredients and came out nice and hot. One slice of each basically filled me up LOL, especially since they're pretty thick slices. Pizza lover or not, I highly recommend anyone in the area to give this place a try if you have time to spare (waiting). I'm definitely going to come back again to try more of their pizzas!

went there on a Saturday afternoon,& the place is very busy. Good thing we were able to grab a seat. FYI, they got limited seating. The staff were very friendly. We ordered the small size pepperoni and Truffy Guy ( I guess this is the most popular). Better order two small size so that you can taste other flavors :) It gets busier in late afternoon, so I suggest call to order ahead. Overall 10/10!🥰

I ordered a pizza for delivery and it was delicious - I can only imagine how incredible it would be fresh at the shop. I got the Gat Daddy which was super flavourful. Lots of toppings, thick fluffy dough and a crispy crust. These pizzas are serious!

  • 3/5 Claire H. 6 months ago on Google
First time trying Detroit style pizza. I'd say it's nothing special and the crust is much thicker than I would have liked. The No Name was very unmemorable. I also expected the Electric Avenue to be spicier considering it's jerk chicken and curry. I've had much better pizza elsewhere at half the price.

  • 4/5 Elora T. 5 months ago on Google
Ordered 2 small sizes of pizza. Both pizza’s were good, came fresh and hot. Also got a side of garlic aioli and spicy honey sauce. The pizza isn’t anything special, tastes good but not rushing back. Big slices, thick and crispy edges. Similar to deep dish style pizza. Not overly oily. Overall good food and service. Recommend trying it out!

This is amazing Detroit style pizza. Best I've ever had in the city. The crust is out of this world. A very thick pizza, lots of delicious crispy dough. Some really interesting flavor choices too! Really enjoyed the Electric Avenue and Canadian!

I gotta say, my first dive into Detroit style pizza was a real treat! The place had a great vibe, and the service was top-notch, even if there were moments when the wait felt a bit on the long side. But trust me, the wait totally paid off. I can't say enough about 'Daddy's Favorite' and 'Electric Avenue' – they were hands down the best picks from the menu.

Coming from a person who don’t like pizza, this is the only pizza I would crave for. Truff guy is so unique. Their dough is so crunchy, thick, and chewy. My boyfriend love mushroom and he enjoy eating this pizza.

  • 5/5 Max G. 5 months ago on Google
Unbelievable pizza. If you are looking for a deep dish pizza place, I cant recommend this place enough. Easily the best deep dish I have ever had. Tried the Gat Daddy and it was perfectly balanced with heavenly flavour. Please try this place, you won't regret it.

Has a small but nice sitting area. If it’s busy consider making a reservation to be safe. But it was not busy for me and could sit immediately. Pizza takes about 15-20 mins to make. Seemed faster for me but that’s what the waitress said to expect. Pizza was great. One of the better choices around town, especially if you like Detroit style pizza. Staff are super friendly. Atmosphere is great. Great music playlist. Purchased their large pizza so had half of the pizza taken home. You will only need a small size if you’re sitting down but if you want leftovers go with large. Tasted great as leftovers as well. If you want to go cheap, share a small and get water, you’ll be around 25$ + tip.

The food was PHENOMENAL. They pumped it out pretty damn quick too. The Truff guy and the Daddy’s favourite is what my friend and I got. Truff guy was earthy, sweet, savoury, rich, and I need more of it in my face. Daddy’s favourite was an Indian style pizza that I could eat daily, perfect amount of heat and the jerk chicken bits with the mango chutney pops in here and there, it was delicately scattered evenly to give a harmony of flavour. Y’all got me weak, I need more

  • 5/5 D 4 months ago on Google
I finally got around to trying Descendant a few days ago, and I came away with one question - what took me me so long? I ordered the Daddy’s Favourite, and it was one hell of a pizza. It was such a symphony of flavour, covered with toppings edge to edge, beautifully crispy on the edges and bottom, had a great chew to it and, for a thick crust pizza, surprisingly light and airy. I’m not usually a thick crust kind of guy, but Descendant gets two thumbs up from me. Among the most unique and best pizzas I’ve ever had; not just thick crust / Detroit style, but any pizza. If you haven’t been to Descendant yet, I highly recommend it, even if you’re not usually a fan of thick crust pizza. It’s among the best in Toronto, and anywhere, hands down.
