Fun place to visit, especially during a warm sunny day. The various types of flowers, trees, and other vegetation to be found is magnificent. It easily took us 1.5h and it feels like we didn't get through everything; definitely worth another visit, even during a different season. The maze was super fun, the bees are is fascinating, and love all the descriptions/names on the various plants/trees. The entry fee is reasonable, there's parking available, as well as coffee/snacks!

The festival of lights is an incredible experience! Don't miss it! And buy your tickets in advance on the website. From November 24 to January 7, go to the VanDusen Botanical Gardens and experience the name states... a festival of lights for all members of the family. Be prepared to be in cold weather and maybe some rain so don't forget to check the forecast before you go. Strollers and Wheelchairs are OK. You can't bring food from outside as it is sold inside. Something warm halfway across is nice to take a break. Check the map so you know where you are when you are inside. It is a big place, and you can get lost or loose direction of where you want to go.

It’s beautiful when it gets dark, so dress warmly and enjoy the stroll and sights of The Festival of Lights. Tickets need to be bought in advance online; it quickly gets sold out. There’s free parking on site and plenty of food and drink options inside (prices are steep, though).

Every few years I with family and or friends walk through the gardens and see the millions and millions of Christmas lights. During this Christmas season, the online booking allows you a scheduled entry time, we picked 7:00 p.m. . We were able to park in the actual lot, although we waited approximately 15 minutes in the slow moving lineup of cars around the parking lot until a guest leaving showed up close enough to our vehicles so that we could get that next parking spot. Note arriving approximately 30 minutes before our scheduled entry time was a good thing. I doubt they're really sticky about the schedule times unless they are overbooked... He wandered in checked out the lobby area and some of the displays interesting notes about our local forest flora, conifers and deciduous in a little display off the main lobby. My friend and I grabbed beverages at the main entrance to carry through, nice to have a warm cup as it was a bit cool...She had a soy hot chocolate beverage and I had the large mocha. For the next hour or so we wandered around and danced to the holiday music... Entertaining ourselves and occasionally some of the other guests of the gardens. There were many food selections on throughout the park, including Japanese Hot Dogs... Risotto? Balls?, Chocolate dipped fruit, and much more. We considered staying a little longer and having a hot mulled wine on the outside patio, but decided to make it an earlier evening and head home.

This place really worth the time and money. The park is quite big, so plan to spend at least 2 hours there. It’s so clean and maintained! Bring a book to read and some snacks with you because there are lots of cozy spots where you can chill and meditate. This park is really is a quiet oasis in the middle of a big city. Also, check out the maze, it’s real fun!

I had the great fortune of stopping by here on a beautiful sunny day—it was lovely. Beautiful landscaping and easy to navigate. Plenty of benches to stop and rest, should you need to do so. IF I could only go either here or Queen Elizabeth Park, I think I’d choose the latter just for the conservatory birds, but this was a must-see for me. So serene.

I came to see the festival of lights last night and it was just as beautiful as last year. It was busier but just as fun. The parking was a nightmare same as last year. What was different this year was the Make a Wish Fountain had a stall inside the garden which I thought was great. My partner went to donate some money and was told they couldn't accept it as it was cash. I was under the impression all donations help but no, card payments only, which was disappointing.

My family visited to see the festival of lights on Christmas occasion. I bought tickets in advance (2-3 days) via online. There was amazing lights with a music and lights dance. It was really good. After visiting around the park, we enjoyed hot chocolate. Even the weather was cold, but it was such an good evening.

This is a beautiful place to take in while in Vancouver. It was early this year with almost no colour but still pretty amazing to explore. The rose gardens will be glowing in the summer. I spent an hour walking the paths and still missed a lot of the area.

Went to see the festival of lights. Such an awesome set up. We were introduced the lights with a music+ lights dance. It was really good. Then strolled around the entire garden and it took us about 90 ml ins to do that while taking pics. Finished the stroll while having a bucket of cinnamon mini donuts (must have).. an evening well spent.

It is advertised as 30 to 45 minutes long, may be if you consider the food trucks line ups as part of the experience or perhaps if you walk. Beautiful implementation of winter lights, too short, and not all that 2 kilometers is lit by light. The entrance was dark we misses it once and the radio station was glitchy.

Excellent lights celebrations , you will enjoy the visit in all weather conditions ( sunny/rain or snow). Booking is done only, entrance area is so organized with helpful staff following COVID protocols. Inside , you will enjoy 20 stop sites on the map with excellent light decorations. Music all around the garden and many areas for nice snack and hot drinks.

First visited and will keep going back there. Very beautiful garden for the whole family to have a fun time together. The girls love the maze they did many times. We took 2 hrs but wasn't even half for us to see when you have curious babies, things take time to see to explain..hehehe.. so really recommend this place to the whole family to spend time together. The staffs were nice. The bakery shop is really good too, dropped by before we left home what a treat! So see you again and again

Good admission price. Free parking. Mostly paved pathways. Accessible for strollers. Good amount of signage and all plants are labelled! Lots of maintenance being done in October. Nice outing and not busy at all on a weekday afternoon. Appreciated how quiet it was despite being in the middle of a busy city.

This place is so beautiful! This is our second time here and we spent about 3.5 hours. Absolutely worth the money you pay and you can see that a lot of work and effort have been put in to turn it into the enchanting/magical place that it is! The ponds were partly frozen. The hot chocolate at the entrance is just out of this world amazing! 😱 There are many other food trucks (hot dogs, donuts, chocolate fountain, drinks, etc.) on site around the park. There’s not much parking on site so highly recommend taking transit. This magical place is totally worth it! 🥰

Stunningly beautiful! A MUST go to! Inexpensive and super enjoyable. Easy walkable concrete paths. Lit up like Disneyland! Music playing just fantastic. Thoroughly enjoyed - will definitely do it again. *Good to know - there is lots of food vendors there. So many choices, have dinner and walk around. We would do this next time for sure.

This garden is wonderful! It is pretty large and there are many different themed areas to discover. The many different plants are very well arranged, properly labelled and you can see, that someone has put much time and energy into creating this beautiful place. Everything is very clean and tidy and it's really enjoyable to walk around. For so much work, the ticket price is more than reasonable.

Today, five of my friends and I went to Vandusen Festival of Lights in Vancouver. The price of our ticket was about 24 dollars per person (using the 15% Black Friday discount). The sound of music could be heard. Firstly, the music was changed several times in the middle of a song, and secondly, the lights that were used were very ordinary. For example, in my opinion, if instead of using so many green, blue, red, and pink lights that do not reach that space at all, if they used creamy white color, that space would be completely dreamy. But with these lights, a large part of the environment looked like a kindergarten, and the parts where green light was used looked like mosques and religious places. All in all, it was not a bad experience and it was worth going once, but really it was not worth 24 dollars at all and even half of this amount was too much for this festival that was prepared. If I want to briefly mention the special points of that environment that might be useful for someone: It had many washrooms, both indoors and outdoors. There were two cafes before entering the open space, one of which served alcohol (but you couldn't take it out of the cafe and you had to eat it there). There were food and drink stands along the way selling things like hot drinks and donuts. Here are some videos and photos from tonight

Well I have to say we were more than a little disappointed overall. Absolutely felt it was not worth the fee we paid to go. The volunteers were very helpful and the lines moved fast. It is a sold out event and the lines were long. We got there 5 mins before our time slot and slid right in. There is a radio station they ask you to tune into for an introduction however the reception was so bad we didn’t bother/couldn’t hear it. Not all sections of the tour have lights on them so quite a few dark spots. Took us about 25 mins as we did not stop for hot chocolate or food. The food trucks are lined up at the end and looked interesting however we did not stop for that portion of the experience either. Was a good way to get out of the house during covid times but be careful as it can turn into an expensive experience fast !

Terrible place, Prices of tickets are more for less Enforcing social distancing did not exist Wait times are absurd for rides due to covid and 50% capacity The donuts were stale... The only good this was the churro i bought. 50$+ for 2 hours of nothing The new attraction they had during covid was a joke compared to any haunted house. I even saw an actor having a coffee on the job instead of doing his job trying to scare people. Reading most other positive reviews look paid for or people have really low expectations at the moment.

Beautiful botanical garden with great design and lots of plant species. The only downside is that we don’t get to see a much flowers bloom during winter time. The maze is very fun!

For plant lovers/enthusiasts, this is a treat! The "bloom map" available at the front door is a must if you wish to track seasonal blooms at the park. Since the park is expansive, maintaining 6ft distance from others is not a problem. You can comfortably take long walks, take your time to idle in a particular section, etc. Serene and tranquil, this is the best place to spend any afternoon, and maybe grab a bite at one of the two options available in the vicinity of VanDusen. I personally love all the cedar, Japanese maple, willow and redwoods sections. Walking through the Grotto is my personal favorite thing! And, keep your eyes peeled for birds, bees and butterflies. You might catch a glimpse of some very unique ones!

Let's say first off I'm not what you would call a plant person. I don't even like to eat them generally. My oldest has been to University and likes to "widen my horizons". But show me plants with six foot leaves, ten foot tall sunflowers, and a real hedge maze. And I'm impressed. Horizon expanded.

Lovely garden. A treat to be able to escape from work and busy schedule in such a peaceful and beautiful place. This was not planned but worth visiting with a small cost. We went for the Festival of Lights and definitely one of the nicest places to feel the Christmas festivities! Great place to hang out. Highly recommended!!!

I've been to the Christmas Lights before but never just to visit. It was pouring with Rain and honestly it was so fun! I was practically the only person there, it was so fun to explore everywhere even if I did get soaked and so muddy 🤣 the maze was actually challenging and the gardens are huge, easily spend a few hours there seeing everything. Also, one of the hottest drinks I've ever had!!

I thoroughly enjoyed my time here. You are surrounded by tons of beautiful flowers and greenery. I appreciated the little details in how it was curated. The maze was also fun. Additionally, it is a family friendly space. I’d come back again… While I was at the gardens, they also held and hosted weddings and special events around the gardens which were so pretty!

Wonderful place with amazing lights. Definitely worth all of those money I paid. Really lots of zones and you can find everything what would you like. By the way lots of small food courts and you will definitely will be able to warm up yourself or take a bite. I would recommend this place to anyone no matter what kids or without kids.

The best $13 you can spend! I went in mid-June and the garden was beautiful, even though most of the flowers had bloomed. The roses were stunning!! I went first thing in the morning, which was great because no people were in my pictures! I spent a solid 1.5 hours here just exploring - it was gorgeous! Highly recommended at any time of the year - the winter display is stunning!!

Very beautiful and fun to explore! Not as busy as some of the other gardens in B. C, so more peaceful and serene. The entry price was great too, it was around $25 for 2 adults. What would have made it better would be if there were more signs telling you where you were throughout. I think we only saw 2 the whole time and my partner and I did a lot of backtracking etc to try and see it all, and even then I think we missed a couple areas because lack of signage. Would probably go back though if looking for something to do and was in the area!

I'm biased as I have been coming here as a kid and the Christmas lights are a a yearly event we attend. No matter how many times I visit or the reason (just because, wedding, Christmas, etc) I enjoy myself. It is basically a large, enclosed park with a variety of themed gardens within it with the highlight being the maze. Even though I've been coming here 20+ years there is always something new I find and the restaurant it good as well. If you are looking for something to do with kids, they will enjoy themselves as well. If you do come for Christmas then expect to hunt for street parking, long lines (buy your tickets before!), and bring cash for things like fresh nuts and cider.

Lovely oasis of nature in Vancouver. Truly enjoyed experiencing the wilder parts of the garden, so you got an impression of how it would've been to visit unique biomes around North America. Beautiful selection! Plan to spend a least half a day here. To save money eat lunch elsewhere and then enjoy the gardens until closing hours before heading out to eat dinner elsewhere.

I think summertime would've been more prettier. We visited on Oct. 6th, and it wasn't really impressive. Considering you have to pay, it was rather disappointing. If you have a short time window, I would recommend you visit Queen Elizabeth rather than this place as Queen Elizabeth Park is free and pretty.

Festival of Lights is extraordinary event that happens every year. Start from mid November to first week of January. Beautiful decor of lights with various colors and cute designs. You walk through the lights in the garden, take memorable pictures and enjoy Hot cocoa. We loved the MINI Donuts as well. Hot & yummy! Must visit Festival of Lights.

this Gardens is a beloved local destination, especially renowned for its annual Christmas light display. The 2023 light exhibition was particularly impressive, adding a magical touch to the garden's natural beauty. During the light show, they thoughtfully included additional stalls offering snacks and hot beverages to keep visitors warm. The provision of facilities for warming up by a fire was a considerate touch. Overall, the experience was very well-organized and thoroughly enjoyable, a testament to the garden's commitment to creating a welcoming and festive atmosphere for all who visit."

Visited during Slayland (Covid fright nights replacement) and I'm really happy to say the virus wasn't the scariest thing there! They did a great job enforcing masks, social distancing, and crowds. I felt safe and comfortable. We rode every ride, and a handful of them repeatedly without lines. Great work adapting! I just wish it wasn't $40 a head including for children.

  • 1/5 sean R. 3 years ago on Google
Absolutely pathetic. Whoever was responsible for the light displays should be fired. It was as if a child did this event. On top of that the first stand that offered the staple PNE mini donuts served cold rock hard bags of donuts. It was disgusting and for a big company like PNE and all the money they made through this the event should have been ten times better. Let's hope this event never has to happen again. Word of advice go to GLOW not this!

The lights were beautiful. I wish that they had utilized a bit more of the fair grounds for lights. The one thing that was absolutely appalling are the donuts they sell as you first come in. They are harder then any rock on this planet. It was such a disappointment to get those and pay 7 bucks for things that are inedible. Please don’t sell those anymore!

This is beautiful gardens with the areas divided neatly. Maze is good fun especially when doing it with someone who is a little afraid of spiders. A great place to see different varities of maple trees also! We had to buy our tickets online.

It’s very beautiful during the summer. You can take pictures with a lot of bloom flowers. But during the fall, it’s the place to take a picture with yellow and orange leaves. I love all of season. And the price in summer was $13. In fall is $8. You can buy ticket at the entrance or online.

VanDusen is a beautiful, tranquil place. Spring, summer, and fall are gorgeous there. There is not much colour in the winter but it is still nice to visit. All the different trees are very cool.

It's a nice park. It's worth visiting. There are so many plants, many plants in many parts of the world, and the design is excellent. When you come to Vancouver, you can recommend it when you have time. You have to clock in every winter. The garden decorated with lights is super beautiful, and it's very suitable to visit with friends and family

This is beautiful place for relaxing near to nature. All ages people can enjoy here. Maze is fun. Social distancing and other measures are in effect. Must visit place. Ticket are available online only.

VanDusen is a well maintained garden extravaganza with incredible variety of plants from all over the world. The hedge maze is dizzying and fun for children and adults alike. The Shaughnessy Restuarant beside is a must stop for their Clam Chowder. I highly recommend going any time of the year but spring/fall is when flowers and foliage are most visually striking. Expect to walk quite a bit as this place is huge!

I think this would be a beautiful place to visit in the summer time, when it’s full of beautifully bloomed flowers, we enjoyed the maze! During the colder season there is not a ton to see besides trees!

We got some brillant fall colors, but also very interesting blooms and a lot of information on our guided tour. There is no charge for the parking and we were able to find a space in the parking area near the entrance.

This garden is a gem in the city. What a wonderful treat to be able to escape all the business and noise in such a peaceful and beautiful place. All the different gardens within are worth the walk. The small cost is worth it for the visit. So good in both the summer and winter seasons. Looking forward to it being open longer hours again so we can visit in the spring and fall also.

I really wish I had more time to spend here. I rushed to the Conservatory only not to make it as I had the anthropology museum to go to. Absolutely stunning garden. I couldn't have taken more pictures elsewhere. This place my mom would have loved!

Beautiful botanical gardens. The gardens have a vegetable garden, maze, rose garden, sunflower and a beautiful fountain. Great place to hang out. There is a restaurant on site. Highly recommended

  • 5/5 Shiva J. 2 years ago on Google
Absolutely loved the garden. We spent a whole day here, and we only left because our legs couldn’t walk more. The tickets are surprisingly cheap for Vancouver, and the garden is huge, beautiful and very well kept.

  • 2/5 Versatile A. 2 years ago on Google
It's OK, not great. Long walking paths lead you to the maze and waterfall. Ticket for each is $13+. Rose garden is nothing compared to others I have seen. No signage can simply let you walking. Cafeteria is good but food served is okayish. We had turkey cheese sandwich which was amazing but macaroons were utter waste. Not authentic, we tried pista and raspberry but didn't like either. Overall experience, bad, this place is just a hype!

  • 5/5 Kat G. 2 years ago on Google
Absolutely stunning and refreshing. I went on a Friday and it wasn't too busy at all! They let you know what's in season/blooming that month and they show where those are on the maps! Lovely little place to spend the morning. Good to bring a water bottle, even a picnic for the park area!

  • 5/5 Alex M. 2 years ago on Google
Great Place with beautiful scenes to spend time with your family/friends. Many amateur/professional photographers challenge their photography skills with seeing around from their cameras in different angles. Don’t miss reading the history & kind of trees & flowers that written beside them. ( I was very excited when I found a tree that was planned at same date I was born! we are at same age - coeval 😁)

Love exploring the gardens and will definitely be back for all the seasons! We thoroughly enjoyed our walk next to the beautiful foliage. It’s a really nice place to go for a walk, take pictures, and even eat at the cafe! When you go, you simply enjoy the view or take extra time to read the info on the signs all around the gardens. Lots to learn! Perfect for a family day or date night!

Incredible Light Festival that looked extra magical with all the snow! It was busy, however, the mask mandate was fully observed as was the proof of Covid vaccines requirement before entry. This is a must see event and suitable for all age groups.

Go there during christmas for the decorated lights, they are so pretty! The line up was long when I went but covid protocol was followed. Make sure to book early in advance because this sold out fast. Good date night idea looking at the pretty lights!

My wife, a friend, and I spent a few hours here exploring what the garden has to offer. There are different sections to view, all of which are clearly marked. The vast variety of trees, shrubs, flowers and more were stunning to take in. Many different art pieces can be found in the park along with a restaurant, gift shop, and even a fun little maze. I particularly enjoyed the maze, even though it was small it was a fun little addition to viewing the beuty of the gardens.

One of the best Botanical Gardens I have visited. There is so much to see you can spend hours and hours here. The fall decorations are cool, especially for families looking for a day out. I will definitely be returning in spring to see all of the different flowers in bloom.

  • 5/5 Ashlea P. 1 year ago on Google
We went on the last night of the winter light show. We were deeply impressed in the amount of work that went into preparing each section/themed area of the light show, and that - despite being the last night - there seemed to be no visible damage to any of the displays. There were plenty of food places throughout the garden, as well as spaces to warm up if you were starting to feel chilly. I appreciated the clearly marked paths, and that there were multiple maps throughout the garden to help you find your way around. Entering and exiting were easy to do, as the staff had great crowd control, and communicated clearly that you could only enter the gardens within the time window listed on your ticket. Parking was limited, but there was traffic/parking control present as well, which made entering and exiting the site as a whole much easier.

Awesome oasis in the city. We spent 3 hours leisurely strolling about and did not manage to see then entire garden. It is a beautiful place. Paths lead visitors through several different habitats. If I lived closer, I would buy an annual membership!

A formal garden with some lovely highlights. There was plenty to see and it was well worth the entrance fee! We are from the East Coast and we love the botanicals so being at VanDusen was terrific because there were so many western varieties of things. Staff were extremely helpful. This is a hot spot for weddings. There were no fewer than 6 today while we were here.signage through the park is terrific, paricularly on the trees. Signs are present but not in your face, ruin your photo variety. Lots of photo ops. I also love how art installations were dropped throughout to enhance the garden experience. Very well done!

What a gem! We put off coming here for far too long. This is such a magical place, with new sensory delights around every turn of the path—gorgeous plantings of the most glorious colours and scents, inspiring native plant gardens, serene ponds, birdsong and the laughter of kids in the maze. We can’t wait to return!

  • 5/5 Jasmine I. 6 months ago on Google
This garden is absolutely beautiful and quite large!! So many made pathways but also little pathways you can find throughout. It’s certainly something that will keep you busy for awhile.

  • 5/5 Heather P. 6 months ago on Google
Even in October, the garden was absolutely gorgeous. Even my 2 kids absolutely loved it. We spent a couple of hours walking around and didn't even get to see everything because we had another stop to make. Definitely would go again in the spring to see more things blooming.

For a place that can be really busy, there's still a sense of tranquility in these gardens. Love this spot with its accessibility, pathways, bistro, and gift shop. A list see for locals and visitors.

A beautiful garden with so much to see. We came for the fall harvest festival which is great for all ages. Will definitely be back in summer when flowers are full bloom

Went to the gardens during their light festival. It was a great night, easily spent a couple hours walking around. The lights were spectacular! I went in the middle of the week and it wasn't too crowded. They had a few places to eat along the walk, a few places for hot chocolate, mulled wine, cider.

  • 5/5 Ahmet C. 4 months ago on Google
Its a fun place to visit. I would definitely grab a map right after you scan your ticket, they are located at the entrance. I went during the afternoon and my experience was good. I would definitely recommend going at night for the best experience. Definitely check out the maze!!

Super amazing first experience in this event and garden. So many beautiful lights that we were not able to explore as much but we will definitely come back again to check out the rest of the area. Worth the money and time. Spend your holidays with your loved ones here from young to old. They also serve hot chocolate and hot drinks inside to warm up while walking through the garden. Make sure to book your tickets in advance because they do sell out fast during the holidays.
