The
staff
was
nice
and
respectful,
but
I
cannot
in
good
conscience
recommend
anyone
ever
stay
at
the
Heart
of
Amsterdam.
My
partner,
my
friend,
and
I
stayed
in
unit
2
(the
private
3-bed
room
with
an
image
from
Shawshank
Redemption
on
the
wall),
one
of
the
two
units
on
the
ground
floor,
for
two
nights.
The
entire
room
smelled
extremely
strongly
of
mildew.
There
was
also
mold
covering
the
ceiling
in
the
bathroom
and
shower.
They'd
provided
a
strong
(and
loud)
fan
to
help
disperse
the
odor,
but
it
barely
helped.
The
main
door
had
a
2cm
gap
at
its
top,
which
meant
that
everything
happening
in
the
hallway
was
clearly
audible
and
anyone
outside
could
hear
what
was
happening
in
the
room.
Anyone
over
6ft
could
also
see
into
the
room
through
the
crack.
One
of
the
room's
windows
opened,
but
it
led
to
a
hallway
where
people
passed
frequently,
so
if
the
window
was
open
then
everyone
walking
through
could
clearly
see
into
the
room
or
come
through
it
if
they
wanted
since
it
was
at
waist
level.
The
shower
drain
didn't
drain
fast
enough
for
the
water
pressure,
so
we
had
to
run
the
water
with
very
little
pressure
or
it
would
quickly
overflow
the
bathroom.
You
also
had
to
stand
in
a
cm
of
standing
water
the
entire
shower.
There
was
also
a
high
pitch
ringing,
almost
like
a
dog
whistle,
by
the
counter
with
the
electrical
outlets
that
also
doubled
as
a
headboard
for
the
beds.
This
made
sleeping
with
your
head
at
that
end
of
the
bed
difficult.
I'm
6'5"
(196cm),
and
hit
my
head
every
five
minutes
on
multiple
low
beams
(under
6')
in
the
rooms
AND
bathroom.
This
unit
is
dangerous
for
tall
people.
I
couldn't
even
stand
up
completely
in
the
shower
without
accidentally
brushing
my
head
against
the
moldy
ceiling.
The
three
towels
they
provided
were
paper
thin,
but
reception
graciously
provided
more
when
we
asked.
They
offer
a
box
of
tissues
on
the
wall
by
the
sink
to
dry
our
hands
with
in
place
of
hand
towels
or
paper
towels.
The
location
was
admittedly
great
–
in
the
middle
of
Amsterdam
and
walking
distance
from
everything
we
wanted
to
do.
The
listing
mentions
the
rooms
are
smoke-free,
but
that
doesn’t
stop
the
lobby
and
hallway
areas
from
smelling
very
strongly
of
cigarette
smoke.
While
the
place
was
a
nightmare,
the
hosts
at
least
tried
to
make
it
welcoming.
They
gave
us
two
keys
when
we
asked
for
one
more,
and
they
also
later
provided
two
extra
towels
when
we
asked
for
those.
Check
in
and
check
out
were
both
also
very
quick.
The
receptionist
also
helped
break
up
a
loud
fist
fight
a
couple
other
guests
were
having
literally
outside
our
door
at
5am.
A
different
receptionist
also
allowed
us
to
push
our
check
out
time
back
an
hour
so
that
we
could
leave
our
bags
there
before
an
afternoon
train.
Their
kindness
didn't
make
up
for
an
unlivable
room,
however.
They
started
loud
construction
on
the
building
around
7:45am
for
some
"renovations".
From
the
other
reviews,
it
sounds
like
a
renovated
room
would
have
been
okay,
but
we
didn't
get
one
of
those.
We
should
have
asked
for
a
better
room
the
second
we
walked
into
unit
2.
Altogether,
we
managed
to
get
about
4-6
hours
of
sleep
both
nights
before
the
stench
of
mildew
and
cigarette
smoke
(which
wafted
through
the
crack
in
the
door)
and
noise
from
the
lobby
chased
us
out
of
the
unit.
We
worked
hard
to
spend
as
little
time
as
possible
in
this
unit
and
still
we
will
need
a
day
or
two
to
recover
sleep.
I
would
not
book
here
again.
