The most Europenian  city in Egypt - Alexandria! ⠀   But the city's mosques remind us that we are still in the east 🕌 ⠀  One of them is considered one of the most "eastern" and beautiful mosques in the country - El-Mursi Abul-Abbas🕌🌙 ⠀ ⠀ The operating mosque stands in front of the viewer, like an illustration from an oriental faity tale😍 - a cream-colored facade in the Arabian style, the walls of the temple are 23 m, 4 domes, decorated with carvings, incredible ornaments, a high minaret 73 m ... ⠀ You do not need to be an expert in architecture to be amazed at the laboriousness of the work and the incredible beauty of the mosque, its UNIQUENESS is that all the traditional methods that were once used by ancient masters were applied during the construction ... ⠀   What about the religious significance - the remains of a Sufi saint are buried here, who is the patron saint of sailors and fishermen, as well as famous figures of the Middle Ages, the mosque annually receives many pilgrims🌙 ⠀ This is one of the mosques, which is accessible to tourists, in a strictly defined dress code, but due to covid there are time restrictions.

Went here about 4 years ago, the mosque is huge with authentic & seasoned decorations inside. Also contained inside is the tomb of Abu Abbas El-Morsy, a Sufi saint that was regarded as one of the four master saints of Egypt (in the times of Islamic Andalusia). It is considered as one of the most important Islamic historical site in Alexandria. The prayer hall is huge & comfortable, the toilets & ablution areas are well-managed. There's plenty of parking spaces so don't worry if you come by vehicles. There is also an interesting market complex downstairs to the mosque besides it (although they're not always open).

What a stunning mosque! The outside is so beautiful! We had a very lame tour that didn’t take us to the mosque, but we convinced the guide to take us at least to see it from the outside. We spent just a couple of minutes there and it was delicious to see it, such a beautiful building. It is a must see 🥰

Beautiful mosque and the most notable and important one in Alexandria, the mosque has the Burial site of numerous Islamic saints and it holds a historical importance of the Islamic heritage of the city, the architecture of the mosque and the whole complex is very beautiful and has this Cairo-Mamluk style of design, the interior design is also beautiful, unfortunately the complex itself is not well-taken care of and signs of neglect are present all around the whole complex, the staff there aren’t the nicest at all, they told us not to take pics and then when we were going out of the mosque they asked audaciously for money, underneath the mosque there is a shops complex that’s unfortunately dirty and not clean at all, if the whole complex had the care it deserves then the place would be amazing, but for right now i can’t really recommend visiting it as it’s not that worthy at all.

It was closed when we went there, and the street needs some maintenance. The architecture is very nice tho from the exterior.

Mosque at Alexandria. I'm not muslim and I had never been in a mosque, but I liked. If it's part of your itinerary in Alexandria, take a look.

The pavement is broken. Looks like an abandoned construction site. Child beggars are everywhere. If tourists leave their shoes at the mosque door, they don't get them back without a tip.

This wasn't on our day tour itinerary but it looked so beautiful when we drove by that we asked if we could stop to explore the grounds and take a few photos. Sadly, some of the grounds are covered in garbage 9/10

Looks very historical. Close for women due to Covid19. Maybe open for men during prayer times. There is maqam beside the mosque. There are many shops beside it too.

In 1286, Abul Abbas al-Mursi died and was buried here. The mosque was erected for the first time in 1307. Eugenio Valzania and Mario Rossi planned and erected the mosque in its final shape between 1929 and 1945, and it was heavily influenced by Egypt's Old Cairo structures and architecture. It was also a major source of inspiration for the much bigger Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Abu Dhabi, which was finished in 2007 after a decade of construction.

👍 The Area is beautiful and I always enjoy shopping in the area. I hope they clean up the area as it needs better waste management.
