We had a fabulous meal tonight. We had two small children with us and the staff were very accommodating! Their new menu was amazing. Since there were six of us, we tried almost all the appetizers, mains, and desserts!

Love the place. Very gay friendly, very nice staff, like the interior and the food is great! Do make a reservation. 3,4 or 5 course meal. The herring is delicious, the fish and guinea fowl just perfect and dessert are amazing. Highly recommended

From the moment I stepped foot into Hemelse Modder, a true culinary gem tucked away in the heart of Amsterdam, I knew I was in for an unforgettable dining experience. The restaurant is a symphony of inviting warmth, tasteful decor, and a vibrant atmosphere that collectively reflect the soul of this beautiful city. The star of the show was, without doubt, the brilliantly curated food menu, a testament to the chef's passion for crafting gastronomic masterpieces. Offering the option of a 3, 4, or 5-course menu, Hemelse Modder caters to all palates and hunger levels. Each dish was not merely a meal, but a mesmerising journey that told a story of the finest local produce and a deep understanding of culinary arts. The care and creativity poured into each course are nothing short of culinary poetry. From the first bite to the last, the flavours danced on my tongue in a delightful ballet of savoury, sweet, and umami notes, perfectly balanced to create a harmony that was almost musical. The food is beautifully presented, with the aesthetics of each plate rivaling the taste in their excellence. But a memorable dining experience is not just about the food. It's also about the service, and this is where our waiter, Joeri, truly shined. His impeccable service was the gold thread that wove the evening together into a tapestry of gastronomic delight. Joeri had a genuine passion for hospitality and a keen attention to detail, ensuring that every aspect of our evening was flawless. From his insightful recommendations and thorough knowledge of the menu, to his attentiveness and quick service, Joeri contributed greatly to making our night not just special, but extraordinary. In conclusion, Hemelse Modder is more than just a restaurant; it's an experience, a journey of flavors and service that transcends the ordinary. The combination of exquisite food, immaculate service from Joeri, and the overall ambience makes it a must-visit when in Amsterdam. A meal at Hemelse Modder is not just dining; it's a memory in the making. And it is a memory that you will cherish, long after the last morsel has been savoured and the last drop of wine has been sipped.

Just awesome! From the food to the wine pairing and service, everything was near perfect. In relation to the food, the salmon entree, the fennel soup and the chocolate mousse dessert were all unbelievably good. The wine also matched every meal perfectly, with the German blanc de noir a stand out. Finally the service is excellent. The staff are very knowledgeable and friendly to boot. This place is an easy five star rating.

We had one of the best meals we have had in ages. The food is modern Dutch but could pass in any restaurant that serves excellent food. The dishes we had were as innovative as they were delicious. Good cooks know how to combine foods. We started with fennel soup that had an onion soup feel and pickled herring that tasted just divine. The main courses were grilled haddock over a gentle creamy sauce and a chickpea dish that may rank as one of the most tasty vegetarian meals I have ever had. Dessert was a selection of Dutch cheeses and chocolate mouse, the restaurant's signature dish. (Hemelse Modder means Muddy Heaven). It is appropriately named. We asked for the wine selection that the restaurant pairs with each meal. They were perfectly paired, introducing us to a number of excellent wines we had never tasted before. Very welcoming and friendly service, a nice atmosphere in the restaurant. I recommend this restaurant really highly.

Eating at this restaurant was a highlight from our stay in Amsterdam. The food is very tasty and well balanced and the plates always look incredible. The staff is also very welcoming and friendly. We enjoyed eating on the terrace, which is really beautiful.

Generally speaking, the food was good. Nice ingredients and tastes put together. Though, despite edible and tasty, we are not sure what one of the main dishes was supposed to be. The wine pairing was more of a wine offer to go with the food. But what put us off was the service. We were not expecting a fine dining experience, but the service wasn't especially attentive. The head waiter when asked what the Dutch cheeses were, answered that we wouldn't know them and walked away. We could simply do with a more professional attitude, explaning what kind of cheeses we were about to order. All in all, it's a good place to go for decent food at a reasonable price.

Be prepared for very poor and slow service from the start . 3 course menu took us 3 hours . First we were seated - and then asked to move the table , which we did . It took us 50 minutes to order wine and water. Food was average , starter was lovely but one of the mains was poor. Cheese selection was lovely enough. Consistency in how the drinks are poured is off as well. I can see this place being popular if you are not in a rush and prepared to sit and wait for hours . Tried to make the best of our time there but wasn't great.

Excellent food and prices. Sebastian was amazing and the chefs menu was delicious. The soup, the salad and the lamb or Hake main dishes were simply divine. Dinner was a 2 1/2 hours slow luxurious experience!

Great restaurant with fantastic service and delightful food. They also offer a very tasty vegetarian menu and great meat option too. Between our group of three, we had the soup, guineafowl, steak and celeriac and pistachio and fig with ice cream. Unfortunately i forgot to take photos of the rest of the meal. The atmosphere was also nice and comfortable. This is the second time dining at Hemelse Modder, and again it didn't disappoint.

We have an absolutely lovely evening meal here on our last day in Amsterdam. It was warm enough to sit outside in a quiet alley at the back. The menu had lots of exciting choices, and they were all delicious. Service was delightful too. So good I bought the cookbook. Highly recommend the Hemelse Modder.

Nice restaurant with great seasonal menu and very friendly staff! We got a clear and short explanation about their menu, which changes every season. The food is made with local produce from what I understand, and there are delicious vegetarian options for every course. If you’re picking a three-course meal I’d recommend also ordering a side. For five and seven courses the serving sizes are ideal. All in all, it was a lovely experience and I would love to dine here again another time.

I have been here twice and both the times my experience has been awesome. If you want to experience Dutch cuisine and some interesting dishes, I'd recommend this place for sure. It's best to reserve as walk-ins might be hard to accommodate. The ambience is just right.

It’s a lovely little place, tucked away in a quiet residential area. But while it appeared unassuming, it had the most delicious food we have eaten in a while. They have an extensive seasonal menu and a chef’s special menu and one can choose to have either three, four or five course options from them. We opted for the 4 course. Every dish we had was better than the next. They use a mix of seasonal ingredients and put together dishes which are bursting with flavour. Our meal ended with their signature chocolate mousse after which the restaurant is aptly named. The staff was warm and friendly and gave excellent suggestions. This is an experience not to be missed in Amsterdam.

Had an excellent meal here last week including wine pairing. Everything was cooked perfectly, and the wine pairing was matched excellently. I am a foreigner but restaurant was full of locals which shows the quality of this restaurant. Well done to all the staff, if I ever return to Amsterdam, will pop by again.

Great place for dinner! Admittedly not cheap, however the heavenly mud dessert is to die for.

The location is not amazing but the food is nice and the waiters are very very friendly and try to accommodate your requests in the best way. You must order a minimum of two courses. Maybe it's a little too expensive because the portions are very small.

I really like this place. It was buzzy and populated by locals and off the main tourist strip. Food was great and I would imagine, modern Dutch cooking. Was really good value and the wine pairing thoughtfully chosen. The staff are wonderful, efficient and breezy. Would like a more varied menu especially for main course as we were tempted to return the same week but the menu was the same.

Great experience! A very tasty seasonal menu with great wine. Starters were perfect, sebass tartare was great and so was the duck breast. The sauce of hake filet was very well balanced. Venison steak and its sauce were spot-on. Dove into the dessert so forgot to take the photo again 🙃

My spouse and I spent 3 nights in Amsterdam and this was by far our best meal. Flavourful food, attentive and knowledgeable staff, good curated wine pairings, and great value for money. Highly recommend!

Very good price/quality ratio! We had a lovely 3-course dinner here for €40 per person. The amount of food was perfect for not feeling stuffed afterwards, but definitely satisfied with good quality food with interesting tastes. As starters we had the tarte-tatin of chicoree and the maquerell, main course was the duck confit and the herb cake, and as dessert the famous “hemelse modder” and a berry dessert. My only two remarks: the maquerell starter tastes good, but if you’re not the biggest fan of fish, you might wanna choose something different as it’s definitely a special taste. The “Hemelse Modder” dessert has amazing tastes and is not too sweet or too bitter chocolate taste. However, I personally love it when chocolate is combined with something a bit more fresh/acidic/fruity to give a nice contrast to the dark and sweet chocolate flavours. The absence of this freshness can make the dessert feel slightly heavy.

We chanced upon this delightful, relaxed restaurant and were rewarded with the most sublimely delicious food. The artful combination of flavours and textures and creativity were just super. Delightful staff, too. Highly recommended.

Amazing restaurant with a rotating seasonal menu. You pick 2, 3, or 5 dishes and mix and match between the regular and seasonal menus to make what you want. Desserts were fantastic. Even though the food is high end, the dress code is more casual - nice polo and jeans.

Great place, I had a great evening here. We had a five course dinner. We wanted the wine combination and we asked if we could just get three wines, only at the starter, main course and the cheese, and that was no problem. The wines were great and the server told us some interesting information about the wines. The food was great. I loved the hemelse modder, I can definitely recommend that! It was not cheap, but the price was reasonable. What I really like is that they change the menu every season. We'll come back again soon

Excellent restaurant. You get to choose between a 3, 4, and 5 meal course (add wine pairing option if you want for extra euros). The service was nice but the wait between the courses were a bit too long. It took them 15 min to get me two extra slices of bread to finish my Dutch cheese and 35 min to get us the desserts?! Food wise a big bravo to the chef and kitchen, the recipe are so special and unique and in harmony. Recommended for a nice dinner but don’t be in an hurry; service is good but slow!

Allow yourself to be guided through the story and tradition of Dutch cuisine with a pinch of modern and a festival of flavours! The menu is incredibly complete but absolutely simple (you pay based on the amount of courses you order, any courses!). The wine is paired by the chef according to the dish you ordered. The guests enjoy themselves and the atmosphere is festive but not noisy. The package is very competitive!

A wonderful all around experience! The staff was super friendly and welcoming. The food was all excellent and the wine pairings all worked well with the dishes. The Dutch cheese platter and Hemelse Modder chocolate dessert were some highlights that most exceeded their descriptions but everything was good.

Excellent food and service! Creative and tasty food, very beautiful outdoor seating (you can hear birds singing) and great service with Dutch smile and courtesy. They even called us a taxi cab because it’s started raining and we couldn’t walk home without an umbrella. We’ll definitely come back!

We had shrimp bisque with garlic foam (to die for), I had lamb with pistachio add main dish (excellent too) with the signature french fries, cheese (not worth it. I'll explain below), and the Hemelse Modder dessert which is no other than 3 types of chocolate mousse (I'm surely damned at this stage). I took a 4 course menu at 40€ because I wanted the cheese and what a disappointment : 3 miserable small pieces of cheese on a plate, not worth the 10€ extra for that dish (even if they were tasty) The service was friendly and attentive. So in overall, fabulous food, good service. I recommend it except for the cheese platter...

👍👍 The perfect place to enjoy high-quality seafood at a reasonable price.
