Very nice but for the food offered (mezze and grilled meat + veggies), it is quite an over-priced Turkish restaurant in the middle of Amsterdam. The restaurant is quite full in the evening, with apparently Turkish guests and tourists, the ambiance is in general positive however the Turkish (beautiful) music is played very loud therefore due to the acoustics of the two floors venue, the music next to the loudly speaking people overlaps, making the experience less enjoyable. The service in general is very friendly but they forgot a couple times the drinks we had ordered though their friendliness made up for it. Nice restaurant for a first time experience when wanting to taste traditional Turkish meals outside of Turkey but you’d be coming out cheaper with a return flight to Istanbul and trying it all freshly made there (+ much better weather and ambiance). PS : the chicken dishes were for some reason much better than the veal/lamb dishes in terms of juiciness and spiciness.

This was my 3rd time in here. I went to couple of times the onein Karakoy. In general taste of mezes and Ali Nazik kebap was good. But the portions are seriously small. In fact, it's so small that the meze plates are definitely for one person and if you're more than two, take that into consideration. If you look at the current pictures of other Ali Ocakbasi branches on Google Maps, you can see the size of the portions. The katmer we ate in the final was not katmer either. We wanted our own ice next to the raki! It's definetely last time here. Good luck to those who want to try.

This restaurant was recommended by a friend. This is my second time here within a week. Their food is very delicious. I got the mixed grill both times - the flavors are just 🤤 I did not have a reservation either time but I requested a table for one and they welcomed me in. I recommend booking a table ahead of time, especially on weekends, it’s quite busy. The staff is also nice and welcoming.

I had two times an incredible dining experience at this restaurant! The food was simply amazing – every dish was delicious, and the starters were over the top. The staff went above and beyond to please customers, genuinely asking if there was anything we'd like. The welcoming and heartwarming team, along with the inviting interior, made our visit memorable. Highly recommend this place!

One of the best service I've ever had from Yigit, and the food was so flavorful! So impressed. Will definitely be back!

I will definitely go back to try more food from their great and ample selection. The atmosphere is amazing, with beautiful interiors and traditional music. The food was very tasty, the dessert was one of the best I’ve tried. Last but not least the service is attentive and kind.

I went here with my boyfriend and parents 2 years ago. First time experience was amazing. I think I never have been so impressed by a restaurant at first. This year my boyfriend and I went here to have a nice birthday dinner. Again, this place is just the best. The service was swift and nice, the restaurant itself looks so pretty and the decorations/furniture really add to the experience, and last, but certainly not least, the food. The food here is incredibly delicious. I had the Sashlik (I hope I spell it right) and my boyfriend had the lambsrack. The meat is just simply perfect both in taste and texture. Afterwards we had some ice cream and coffee, again very good. I have been recommending this place to all my friends. It's just that perfect. Thank you and I really want to go back here again! I never go back to places more than two times. But this place is the best

Authentic turkish food. The bread was soft and fluffy in the starters and hummus was very tasty. We ordered a mixed meat kebab platter and the chicken was just melting in the mouth. Desserts are the best part and Kanufe is a must try. Service was very fast.

This place it's a must for Turkish food lovers. I felt like I was in Istanbul. They have a variety of food, mezze, shashlik, delicious bread, real Turkish coffee, chai, rakisi, and pistachio desserts. I loved the Turkish pizza with the most flavorus lamb, I’ve tasted in Amsterdam. The staff is friendly, always prepared to help with recommendations, or always asking if all is good. I was enjoying the place, also how is specifically decorated with traditional patterns on the tables and the walls. Totally in for a treat at Ali Ocakbasi.

Tasty restaurant! I really enjoyed eating Turkish food sitting next to the canals. I ordered the meat with yogurt and eggplant mix which was excellent!!! It is pretty pricy but I assume it is average for Amsterdam. Worth the price! I’ll go again.

My boyfriend and I dined here yesterday evening. I had an Ali Kebap & he ordered Bonfile pieces. The meat was cooked at the perfect level. I could tell cold starters, mezes, were freshly made and delicious. The manager was hospitable. During the whole dinner the waiter named Oğuzhan took care of our orders coming in and out. He was very friendly, informed us well regarding the menu. We even had a little chitchat and afterwards he served us Turkish teas along with baklava, kunefe and ice cream. Unforgettable taste and experience we had with the best canal view of Amsterdam.

The food was not cooked well, like it is raw food also the gave us a wrong invoice when we asked for it. Check the photo between the wrong invoice with the one I prepared there is a deference of 40 EUR. I hope you understand!!! Always check your invoices and compare it with the menu prices then you will see a huge defence has been added (by mistake) LOL

Great tasting fresh food and the service is great - the owner is in the restaurant hosting his guests. The mezze platter experience alone could be a meal but don't skip on the grilled meats ( the one with pistachios and the veal are both really good!!)

The food is good, but not the best Turkish restaurant in town. Levent is a much better place to eat Turkish food. Additionally, the restaurant is a bit too expensive. We were two people dining, we shared a main course and several starters, and we paid 100 euros just for the food.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at this charming restaurant, and it was truly a delightful experience. The ambiance was warm and inviting, setting the perfect tone for a wonderful meal. The menu offered a diverse selection of dishes, each one meticulously prepared and bursting with flavor. The staff was not only attentive but also incredibly friendly, adding to the overall positive atmosphere. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a memorable dining experience. It's a true gem that combines delicious cuisine with exceptional service."

Ali is one of those restaurants where you can get the actual taste of Turkish Food outside of Turkey. This time we’ve visited Ali as an international group of 12. Every single one of us had loved the experience. Staff were friendly and polite, service was quick. The taste of the food was amazing as well. Definitely recommend

What a great restaurant! When we planned our vacation to Amsterdam we didn't know Turkish cuisine would be an option. How wonderful it was to be able to order many small dishes to share & eat with their delicious bread! The lamb kebabs were delicious and perfectly cooked & juicy! The restaurant itself is gorgeous both inside & out. The staff were so helpful in explaining the many interesting plates. The muhummara was EXCELLENT & I would recommend everyone try it. Plus there were ample vegetarian & vegan options.

Good restaurant with really nice Turkish food. A very elaborate menu with different options. Also a nice atmosphere. Could use a wider variety of drinks and it is sometimes difficult to communicate with the staff, but definitely worth visiting.

Food didn't taste too bad nor too good, unfortunately really not a lot for the money we spent. Got one Kebab with Bulgur and some salad and the Kebab was entirely overcooked/burned on one side. Overall a pretty nice place with a nice ambience, the staff was pretty nice, can't talk about a great experience though.

Delicious food with real taste like in Turkey. The prices are high as expected from the atmosphere. It worth to taste Ali Kebap.

We ate here in June 2020. Great food, pide was the winner. Ispanaki Pide with added cheese was the favorite all around. Semsek mini pide with goat cheese was the favorite starter. The staff was very welcoming and helpful. Will definitely be back.

Amazing service very attentive staff, unfortunately my hands are not so big......the lamb chops were 5cm in diameter, no grill flavor, the Kusleme was overly dry. Costed arm and a leg, unreal energy charge. Glass of nice Rioja wine worth of 4 sips. Greek music in the background, weird! Final thought AVOID as there are better places on the same street

Good places but the foods are good. And the prices are not worth the taste of the food. But for Amsterdam it is enough.

  • 3/5 Alex S. 1 year ago on Google
The meals are modest sized. Be prepared to leave the place a bit hungry. Cold starters were good, but nothing special. Main meat dishes were perfectly cooked. Compliments to the chef! Desserts were a bit of disappointment, especially the advice of the waiter to share desserts, because they are"very big". Well, they are not, really. I believe a Turkish restaurant deserves a bigger choice of desserts! Service is great.

They have really tasty food , the mix grill & Alinazik was delicious. Don’t miss to ask for Turkish Tea and kenefa with ice cream after you eat.

I’ve been visiting Ali since 2017, the food is always delicious and with good portions. Service is somehow fluctuating but good on average. Booking system needs to be improved and the ventilation inside the restaurant isn’t good that after a while we always feel the urge to get out.

After a stopping at a few restaurants with issues, we found this place and so happy we did. I have been on a Turkish good kick and this place hit the spot. Cute inside there is a second floor that has nice seats along the windows. Good service. The hummus with pastrami was nice and spicy. The Turkish bread was hot and perfect to have with the muhammara and abagannus. Overall it was quite good and I enjoyed any to go back to try some more delicious food.

One-star reviews simply don’t do justice. This place serves up the best Turkish cuisine I've ever had in the Netherlands. Personally, I'm an extremely tough critic when it comes to Turkish food (in the Netherlands). If you’re a restaurant that claims good food I'm notoriously hard to please if you ask me to review your dishes. But this restaurant gets every detail just right. I can confidently say it doesn't get better than this, setting an impressively high standard. The host is genuinely caring and went out of his way to make sure neither I nor my date had to handle our things like jackets when we switched tables. It wasn’t something I expected, but this small gesture made a big difference. The place nailed it, including the service. The staff are incredibly warm and patient, something other restaurants could learn from.

👍👍 The perfect place to enjoy high-quality seafood at a reasonable price.
