I rarely ever leave reviews but hopefully this review will be useful to the public. In general, the hotel is okay, it’s overpriced for what it is but most hotels around this area are, it’s in a good location without a doubt. However, the cleanliness is poor. We did not receive cleaning services until our 3rd day (6 night stay total) and when we arrived to our “clean room” we noticed items were missing. Like anyone else would, we went through every bag diligently to see if we had accidentally placed it somewhere else. We had no luck. The items were gone. We reported the incident of the missing items (which cost over $300) to the front desk but did not hear back from them. And before you ask if there is a safe, there is one; however, ours did not work. Thus, if you are traveling with valuables, don’t stay here. If you aren’t by all means the hotel is 6 out of 10. Also keep in mind that the lighting is very poor in the room and especially in the bathroom. Simple fix though, there is a store 200 meters from the hotel, they sell flashlights. We bought two and it helped a lot!

Disgusting hotel with an even worse service. We paid for a standard double room and got a small one without outside windows. We noticed the difference and the hotel denied to process a refund for the difference we already payed since they not have availability on the actual room we reserved (and payed). The receptionist (Paul) leave all the problem on our side to deal with expedia (the hotel partner where we made and payed the reservation) so hopefully we still can get a full refund and leave this awful place and people behind. To complete the bad experience the elevator was not working so we had to go upstairs with all the baggage, really steep and dangerous stairs by the way

My absolute favorite hotel in Amsterdam. I always stay here. Rooms are perfect and the front desk is very helpful with everything. Busses and supermarket on the same block. Short walks to all the attractions. Front desk even helps you book your day trips. Boris at the front desk is the best.

The location was great and the staff were very helpful and friendly. The state of our room was fair and the bed was relatively comfy. The state of our bathroom I believe was a huge hygiene risk. The amount of mould build up in our shower, around the taps and sliders of the shower doors was absolutely not acceptable. Regardless of how cheap or expensive a room is, hygiene for your patrons should be top priority. For such a beautiful city this was disappointing.

Front desk staff were polite and friendly. Location was good. The rooms are not in great condition and the toilet smells mouldy and musky but it goes away after a while. It also wasn't cleaned very well. I could see dust bunnies and hair on the ground. There was also a hair tie from a previous guest on the floor. The walls are very thin, so you can hear what's going on outside from inside your room. Check out time is at 11am. At 10:57am, housekeeping unlocked my door to come in to my room as she was knocking on the door. I was super shocked as I was in the process of getting dressed. This should never happen. I left the same feedback with the front desk, who apologised on housekeeping's behalf. It was definitely not a pleasant experience and I will not be back again.

Never again. The first room I got was full of hair, the cups were not cleaned and it smelled like smoke. I got a new room which was better but it still had hair on the bedding :( The staff was extremely friendly but otherwise you need to do a better job at maintaining and cleaning the hotel…

Booking was really, the hotel itself is really good. It's near of the city center. The service is good an polite. Also the rooms are nice. But: In my room was plenty of gray and mold. For a night okay but i would have health concerns for a longer time. For that I have to deduct two stars.

This is a very worn out hotel with poor maintenance and cleaning. When we arrived, there were not enough hangers, the soap dispenser was missing from the bathroom, the privacy curtain was gone and the drain was clogged. The room faced the street so we got to listen to the trams and ambulances all night. The lobby furniture is quite shabby too. The only good thing is that it's a 10 minute walk to the museums. My advice -- avoid.. Don't believe the website.

Great location and rooms. It is nice and clean.. Please consider that this is a 5 star rating in a three star category. It is not a 5 star hotel. There are safes in the rooms but no fridges or ice machines in the building.

I give this hotel 5 stars because it was very clean & honestly represented. The room and hotel were quite clean, instant hot water in the shower. The check in staff were very friendly and warmly received us, securely stored our luggage until check in time & had our room available for us early. This is not the Ritz, but is a great value!

Great location. Very helpful and friendly staff. Hotel Espresso name is a little misleading. It is basically an self serve espresso machine in the lobby. Small rooms, no frills, but the rooms were all we needed for our two night stay.

We stayed here as part of an Easyjet Holidays package. It was a great location compared to the other hotels in the same price bracket (which were on the ring road). This hotel is walkable to the centre if you want, but also well connected with trams. It is only a short walk to Museum Square. The airport bus stops just around the corner and is very frequent and convenient. The area around the hotel feels safe and has a range of bars and restaurants. The rooms were very clean and the beds comfortable with plenty of pillows. I had a room at the back of the hotel and it was very quiet. The blackout curtains were effective too. It had a kettle which was great. Coffee was free for guests in the foyer (even though the sign says €1). The foyer itself was lovely and comfortable with easy chairs and magazines or tables where they were happy for you to eat food brought in from outside. The staff were lovely and very helpful. The only negatives were the very dim lights in the bedtoom and bathroom and the lack of a full-length mirror.

Just returned from 5 days 4 nights staying at the Expresso with my daughter. Wanted to say thank you for our stay. The staff could not have been anymore helpful and friendly. The location was perfect for exploring lots of lovely eateries and bars around. Supermarket just up the street and a short stroll into Amsterdam. Rooms are nice, the beds lovely and comfy and had everything we needed. Recommend this hotel if you are visiting Jo and lilliarna xx

This hotel deserves better stars. Room was clean and spacious as per euro standards. So was the property. Staff was extremely friendly and courteous. Very conveniently located close to the museum and dam square. Albert supermarket just 1 minute walk. Also line of restaurants. Extremely satisfied with the hotel.

The room was dirty but thankfully the bedding was fresh. There were dirt marks all over the walls, cigarette ash scattered on the window ledge. The bathroom looked to have been renovated recently which was a plus but we noticed some mould behind the shower and on the ceiling panels. The TV was tiny and had only 1 channel that worked, we had to operate it using the TV buttons itself as the remote wasn't working. The service was fine, we only spoke to them when we checked in and out. Cleaners came in daily but only made up the beds, the rest of the room was still dirty. The location is good, close enough to walk into the city centre and is conveniently located next to a tram stop. Overall review 3*, it was okay. I personally would not come back here but if you are on a tight budget, go for it.

Would absolutely recommend. Right around the corner from the wilder parts of Leidseplein where location is perfect to live, so it was a nice quiet stay while being close to the fun! Our bed were very comfortable and the room is fine. The downfalls were; we didn't have a window to open and there were no refrigerator.

It's an average quality hotel with above average price. Breakfast is just OK. Room was very small. Overall ok experience with above average price.

Hotel Espresso is great value. We booked a double room, arrived late and were put in a twin. The concierge was nice and moved us the next day to a double. The rooms are clean but basic. I've stayed in disgusting Travel Lodges and Formula 1 hotels and this is brilliant. No breakfast .. but there is a supermarket within 50m. I spent as much here for 4 days as I would have spent for half a day in the top hotels here... and it's just fine.

Nice and clean hotel, rooms are comfortable, but could be bigger. The hotel doesn’t offer any breakfast, but you can buy some delicious one from a few bakeries nearby. Personnel is kind and professional. the hotel is just 15 minutes walk from the very city center, and it’s surrounded by restaurants, grocery stores, and shops. Overall a very nice day.

A good enough, cheap base in a lovely part of Amsterdam. Room was clean on the whole (unhoovered fluff/dust down the side of the kids bed), beds mostly comfy. The shower overflowed as the drains need cleared but for the price we paid I was happy with what we got. The bathroom lighting is dreadful but in the main room it was ok. They don’t do food/breakfast but I highly recommend Bosco around the corner which was excellent.

It's a bit shabby in places and basic. Booked it for it's location and air conditioned rooms. Location is good, a few minutes walk to the start of the city centre and shops etc and the tram system. First room we stayed in the air con wasn't working, room was distressly hot with huge windows in full sun and the plug in the sink didn't work so you couldn't fill the sink up. They moved us the following day to a different room which again the air con wasn't working and the lights in the bathroom were so dim it was almost pointless putting the lights on. We were literally told "if you don't like it check out and find another hotel". The decour is dated and frayed around the edges. I'd avoid if I were you

Basic but clean, mostly young clientele. Different staff member on reception each day. No instruction manual in room and not well designed (toilet roll holder obstructs toilet, shelf above sink placed to hit your head on, no space for toiletries in bathroom and no shower shelf/hooks for sponge or soap, no plug points or place for dryer etc near room mirror).

Loved the location of this hotel! Right around the corner from the wilder parts of Leidseplein so it was a nice quiet stay while being close to the fun! You can rent bikes from the hotel too! The €1 coffee was absolutely gorgeous. Our bed were very comfortable and the room was spotless! The only downfall was it was quite hot in Amsterdam when we stayed and we didn't have a window that opened, the AC had broken and so the room got very stuffy very quickly. That being said, once I went downstairs and asked about the AC I was politely informed that it was broken and was handed a fan for the room which did the trick nicely. I'll be coming back in September and have already booked with the Espresso Hotel again. Would absolutely recommend.

It was a pleasant stay at the hotel during recent Christmas holiday. Rooms are comfortable, clean room and washroom and supportive staff. Location is center of the city and very convenient to reach Amsterdam central (just 12-14 mins) through trams that can be taken from just 90mtrs from hotel. Starbuck, dominos and other good restaurants are next to the hotel. I took a walking tour towards central and could already see many iconic places easily.

Great location for trams in many directions. Friendly staff. Pleasant room. Comfy bed. Basic facilities, but good WiFi. On closer inspection some things in the room were tatty or broken, but nothing significant. Good value.

Stayed at Espresso for a long weekend, whose nights turned out to be very long because the beds were absolutely terrible. The location is okay, but you won't be located particularly close to the centre and where the interesting parts of Amsterdam are. I'd recommend you spend a little more if you can to get better quality.

Small but clean and modern hotel with friendly staff. Note, lift so suitable for disabled travellers. Very reasonable price, perhaps due to covid-19. Well located on the edge of the tourist zones, near the museum quarter.

The room was really small and dirty. There were old socks from the previous guest under the bed. There were no other rooms available so we were stuck with it. The Air-conditioning was not even enough to cool such a small room. We had to open the windows at night. Terrible hotel. Will definitely not be returning here.

Location is amazing with great public transport links. It’s also close to airport bus/shuttle. You can rent a bike from the hotel and staff are friendly. Hotel itself is a little old and rooms can be small. Overall it was clean and comfortable but definitely not fancy.

Very dirty room and our door couldn’t lock when we wanted to leave the room. Also the window couldn’t open.

Low quality compared to the price. Not very clean room when we arrived. Ambience is dark and murky. Reception staff of different quality.

Friendly helpful staff Nice helpful staff. Bus to airport round corner. You can book tickets for museum at the desk Aircon in rooms fantastic power shower. Good location .lovely park just round the corner with at least 2 restaurants. Domino's next door and Starbucks over road also small Lidl in next street 5 minute walk to restaurant's. Boat trips and trams into centre . Small rooms and the coffee is just a machine and it's 1 euro and they don't do breakfast .

The room we had was claustrophobic. The room needs to be updated. At least make it efficient and comfortable. I changed the bedding totally. The mattress cover hasn't been replaced for a while. The pillows are so poppy, not comfortable. Under the bed need mopping. Not a box of kleenex, wash cloth shower head leaking. Need more space to lay suitcases. Not enough hangers. Location is good but noisy due to traffic.
