Most people there are looking for a house instead of to meet others. Employees are there just to have a place to live and to get high. Barely interact with the people staying. One employee was even cursing at a guest after they left for dropping some water. Same guy washed his shoes with the kitchen brush and returned it there. Quite a shame, expected more. Forgot to mention the mosquitos, would avoid the hostel with good weather if mosquitos like you.

I loved the hostel, the vibe and the people. I'll totally come back the next time I visit Amsterdam. The rooms are comfortable, but the bathroom is just too small. Nothing to worry anyway; it's just a matter of space. Details aside, I love that they offered free coffee and fruit all day. It was a game-changer after the long days of walking and exploring and, well, you know. Cocomama is extremely easy to get to on foot or by public transport. If you are a walking fan, you'll be 15 minutes away from the city's main square. The trip from the hostel to WHEREVER you go will be beautiful, peaceful and safe.

BedBug ALERT!! This hostel is infected with bedbugs and bite all over my body during my stay. I had to leave the room in the middle of the night and hangout in the kitchen till the morning when I realized the bed was seized by the bugs and there were tens of them (What a nightmare). One of my worst days in Amsterdam.

Never seen such a disgusting place. Everything is so dirty. Room, bathroom, kitchen, lobby. Pictures on the website are not representative at all oxf what you get. The "responsible" employee just doesn't care at all, recognizing only that yes they have issues... This place should just not exist.

What was good: staff and location. What was NOT good: itā€™s definitely NOT a clean place. There was a mice in the kitchen. The toilet was not properly clean regularly [at least not during 4 days we stayed there]. The pipe in the shower was blocked. My bedsheets were with (old) stinky of blood. Unfortunately my husband and I got scabies during our stay [and I do believe that was those bedsheets fault].

I travel quite a bit and stay at good quality hostels. Cocomama had good reviews so that's where I stayed while in Amsterdam. The hostel is in an classical Amsterdam style older building with character plus it's next to the tram stop from Central Station. STAFF: Like any other hostel, it hires travelers, mostly young persons. The only difference is that in most 'good' hostels the staff is well managed. Here the staff openly showed disdain towards the customers. CLEANLINESS: On a scale from 1-5, 5 being the best, this place would be 2. The bathrooms were unclean, the garbage wasnt taken out, fixtures like shower heads shoddy. The backyard was a nice space but over grown with weeds and filthy. No one cleaned the ash trays ( smoking is high in Amsterdam amongst young people). THE BREAKFAST: They charged 3 euros but it was simply a terrible bare bone, breakfast. Cheap bread, cheap cereals, all done in a hurry by lazy staff. It's not the type of a place I would visit again. There is no pride of ownership. They charged 6ā‚¬ for the laundry and done by the staff. So it's quick and convenient.

Tired hostel, unfriendly staff, dirty and cramped rooms. Staff are disinterested. They will do something if asked but apart from that they just lie around in the common area The sheets and beds are clean but the rest of the hostel isnā€™t cleaned very well - in particular the bathrooms. The dorm rooms are really small which is understandable in central Amsterdam in an old building but the bunk beds are very rickety so if the person above you moves the whole bed moves. The bathrooms are also tiny with nowhere to hang your clothes while having a shower.

Stayed in a 6 bed dorm and there was barely any space to open my suitcase. Bathroom was so small that anytime I sat on the toilet my face was in the sink and when someone took a shower the floor was soaked. Beds were comfy and offered curtains for privacy

Awful staff!! When I gave my feedback as a guest of just what I had found in the hostel I was told exactly ā€œNow your attacking my staff and how I run this hostelā€ and asked to leave.Thought ok at first but donā€™t stay here!!.

This place does not match the pictures they use on their website. I was very disappointed with it's appearance. Room was dirty and freezing cold. It really wasn't worth staying just to be in the city. If your young and only need a place to crash. This place will do. I guess my hostel days are behind me.

No value for money. I paid 100 euro for 1 night in the Forest room. Way too much expensive considering the furnitures and the overall experience. I also choose this option because it has the kitchen during curfew, but the staff hasn't been very friendly.

It was a lovely hostel with friendly people working there. There's free breakfast which was great. The hostel is welcoming and the communal kitchen and living area help to create a nice space to meet other guests. I stayed in the forest room which was nicely decorated. The room got quite cold but there was a portable heater provided so I could use it when I needed to. The location of the hostel is great, it's walking distance to the centre of Amsterdam and close to De Pijp which has some lovely shops and cafes. The keys are added to your phone so it's really simple to get in and out of the building and you don't have to worry about losing a keycard.

It was alright. The room, bed and the toilet facilities are just fairly fairly clean. Accommodating staff. Not great but usable kitchen and cooker. Accessible to buses to go to the central station and city centre and rent a bike. Quiet and seem safe location. If all u need is to shower and sleep, not fancy but reasonable price to stay

My room was on the top floor, it was quite tedious to climb the stairs. The bed I had, had no plug or lamp, I asked for a cable and they offered it to me without problems but it was quite uncomfortable not having it nearby. The hair dryer didn't work and they didn't have another one to give me. The bathroom in the room had a very musty smell. The breakfast is reasonable, it was uncomfortable that the person who was there in the mornings did not show much willingness to replace what was missing, I even had to prepare coffee for two mornings because he did not bother to fill the coffee pot. On the other hand, Robert was a great host, always willing to collaborate and make me feel at home.

Coco Mama hostel in Amsterdam was a great place to stay! The staff was super friendly and accommodating. They made me feel welcome and were always ready to help with any questions I had. The atmosphere was really nice. The location was convenient too, with easy access to public transportation and nearby attractions. Only thing I would suggest is for them to add plugs near beds because not everyone uses USB chargers. Overall, I had a positive experience at Coco Mama and would definitely recommend it to others visiting Amsterdam.

If you like the hostel vibe this place is perfect for you. The beds are comfy and you still have privacy despite being in dorms. Backpackers from all around the world flock to this place so youā€™ll always have someone to meet. The staff is slightly nonchalant but in a cool hostel way. Plus breakfast is included which is rare enough for it to be noted!

Awful! Very average property, with an outstanding overpriced rate. Unorganized and unpaid employees, only volunteers who work for free with very little hospitality vision. Same old story from always, a lucrative business for a non caring owner who has young kids poorly managing the place.

The room I stayed (Van Gogh), is cozy but it was really noisy especially in the morning and had no blackout curtains, so it was not a great place to sleep. Also, there would be always a weird smell in the bathroom after someone had taken a shower. Overall, my stay was okay.

The moment I walked in it felt like family was waiting for me. The common area was a great space to meet others and the staff is so awesome I never left like I was alone. Never did I wear ear plugs to fall asleep at this hostel (which means a lot considering how busy hostels can be). I highly suggest this groovy spot to everyone who wants a fun stay in Amsterdam!

CocoMomma Hostel was by far my favorite hostel I stayed in in Europe. I loved the room I stayed in, along with the quality of the shower. I stayed here with friends and from the beginning we felt so welcomed. I especially loved the downstairs area where we could chill and eat. I would 100% recommend staying here!

Great place, rooms with 6 beds each. Very comfortable and clean. Every room has a bathroom with toilet and shower. Breakfast was served in common space in the morning. Very nice people as well.

This hostel has a great location - itā€™s a few minutes walk to the metro and just 2 stops from the Centraal station. The room was clean and each bed has working lamp, USB charging port, a tiny shelf, and a small basket. Thereā€™s a locker for each bed and the radiator worked fine. Toilet paper and hand soap are provided. The body wash was out and I didnā€™t check the shampoo and conditioner. Decent breakfast was provided each morning and youā€™re free to use the items in the kitchen if you want to make your own meal. Iā€™ve removed 2 stars for the following reasons: 1. The bathroom smelled horribleā€¦like really horrible. I stayed for 3 nights and this smell never disappeared. 2. The Wi-Fi doesnā€™t work well from the top floor. 3. It was difficult identifying the staff - so you enter the lounge and you donā€™t always know whoā€™s a guest or who works there. One staff member entered the room while I was seated on the bed and didnā€™t even acknowledge me or say why they entered. They opened the door, entered the bathroom to check something and left. Thatā€™s it, no greeting. I felt like an intruder! Please also note that there are no lifts (I imagine many hostels located in older Dutch houses will be similar) and so you must go up 21 or 22 narrow steps to get to each floor. And if youā€™re on the top floor like I was, thatā€™s 43 steps with uneven stair risers. Thereā€™s also a cat that hangs out in the lounge so you might need to think about this if youā€™re allergic.

Good hostel for a few days. Clean and comfortable. Great location, close to transport stops, market, museums. The room has a toilet and shower. Beds are comfortable, linen is of good quality. There is a lounge and a kitchen, a small garden. I recommend.

Stayed in the 6 bedroom shared dorm. The hosts were all down to earth chill people and reliable for things like the laundry service. Of course the roommates are variable, but there was a curtain on the bed for privacy and an outlet in each bunkbed. The location was great and the cocomama was like a home base for water/toilet/storage/rest while exploring the streets. In the mornings, I would walk to Jumbo and buy breakfast, then walk to a park nearby. Great times.

I'm pretty sure this hostel is worth it if you don't listen to what is said on their internet. Which says that they prefer the contact personally to booking online. When I arrived at 8.30 pm there was nobody opening the door as I rang the bell. I rang three times, afterwards I called the hostel, nobody responding. Luckily I met some guys which were living there in front of the hostel which seemed nice so I left my stuff at their room. As I came back at about 1am the owners were there but told me that there would be no room free if I hadn't booked online. As I told them the information on the internet would say that they prefer the personal contact to the digital and that I trusted on that, they told me I should have booked online really unfriendly. I asked just to sleep on the couch in the hostels public room, but they told me the only option is a room for 200ā‚¬ the night. It is november, it's raining outside and its 2am in the morning. If that's the humanity and friendly site a hostel presents from itself, I can truly say that it's pretty bad and help denying. Not being available at the time you want to book and then not offering any help at all after their own fault. Poor. One star is not even worth it.

So far it is about what I was expecting. The staff has been exceptionally helpful although I havenā€™t really needed any help you can tell theyā€™re attentive. I am a little older than ā€œhostel ageā€ and I wasnā€™t really roughing it so I got a private room and itā€™s perfectly nice and was more affordable than similar hotel rooms. Itā€™s an old building with a narrow staircase and I like the feel. I suspect itā€™s a perfect place for younger people who are OK with sharing a room for economyā€™s sake and perhaps to have a place to hang out with their travel friends or to meet new people. It isnā€™t exactly in the center of the action but itā€™s a walk from everything, somewhat of a long walk. Thereā€™s a wonderful open market just around the corner that has all kinds of neat things and food for a good price, I was able to get Poffertjes and espresso right around the corner for breakfast. It looks like where locals shop. If you wanted to be more in the night scene action, Iā€™d stay closer to those areas but I went out last night and walked back just fine.

Description of the hostel online didn't meet real-life quality at all. The hostel says it offers the comfort of a hotel with the budget of a hostel - instead it charges the price of a hotel with the quality of a low-budget hostel. Our room was tiny, not very clean and very loud - as on the ground floor next to a a main street and you can hear every word of other hostel guests. Given that, the rooms are completely overpriced. The only plus side was the location and the comfortable bed - but unfortunately other than that a very disappointing experience.

It is central located, you can visit everything on foot. The rooms were clean and the staff was really friendly. We could leave our staff before and after stay there, which I personally found amazing. They even had a nice small breakfast and a nice common room and garden. Definitely my stay place when I visit Amsterdam again, totally recommend it.

The welcoming was friendly but Man! This is way too expensive, 75 euros for each night in a multi person room ? Come on, i have never seen this. Honestly i advice you to take an airbnb for this amount of money. And yep there is a garden but truely not kept in good shape, its like abandoned

One of the best hostels I've ever stayed at. My two friends and I really enjoyed the location and the rooms. Thanks to the staff for the amazing stay!

It was a very decent place to park for a few days. It isn't owned by the 2 girls anymore so it doesn't feel as homely as it was earlier. But location is good. Room cleaning services can definitely be amped up.

Had a lovely time at Cocomama. The hostel is really cozy and the staff is very friendly. August is a really great guy, always there to help and share a moment with anyone. I recommend you stay here. The living room with the kitchen is where it goes down. Again, cozy. Really maybe, the only downside is there is no microwave and olive oil šŸ˜¬

  • 5/5 Radiate R. 2 years ago on Google
Stayed here for a couple of nights on the back of some good reviews. The hostel itself has some great features and lots to look at from magazines to wall art. There is a swing in the kitchen too which is very quirky and cool. The bedrooms were a single bed rather than the traditional bunks which was a welcome change. The bathrooms were spacious and tidy, showers good too. All in all a good place to sleep and there is plenty going on in the area close by to explore. An added bonus was a map with interesting things to do around the area created by the hostel which was handy and there were pub crawls on offer, although I didn't take part in any!
