I
walked
through
the
quiet
streets
of
the
Noord
district,
my
stomach
grumbling
with
hunger.
The
air
was
cool
and
crisp,
and
the
occasional
sound
of
a
bicycle
bell
rang
out
in
the
distance.
I
soon
came
upon
a
small,
unassuming
Chinese
restaurant
nestled
among
the
rows
of
tidy
houses.
As
I
stepped
inside,
the
familiar
sights
and
smells
of
a
Chinese
restaurant
greeted
me.
The
walls
were
adorned
with
red
lanterns
and
calligraphy,
and
the
scent
of
soy
sauce
and
ginger
hung
heavy
in
the
air.
A
friendly
waiter
approached
me,
his
smile
warm
and
welcoming.
He
led
me
to
a
table
by
the
window
and
handed
me
a
menu,
filled
with
a
wide
variety
of
Chinese
and
Japanese
dishes.
I
ordered
a
plate
of
stir-fried
noodles
with
beef
and
vegetables,
and
a
cup
of
green
tea
to
wash
it
down.
The
food
was
decent,
nothing
extraordinary,
but
the
prices
were
indeed
very
affordable.
As
I
ate,
I
watched
the
bustle
of
the
restaurant
around
me.
Couples
and
families
chattered
over
steaming
bowls
of
soup,
while
waiters
bustled
back
and
forth
with
plates
of
sizzling
stir-fry.
Despite
the
ordinary
appearance
of
the
restaurant,
there
was
a
sense
of
peace
and
order
here
that
was
rare
in
the
city.
It
was
as
if
the
chaos
and
noise
of
Amsterdam
had
been
left
behind,
replaced
by
the
gentle
hum
of
conversation
and
the
clink
of
chopsticks.
In
the
end,
I
left
Tai
Yu
feeling
satisfied
and
content.
The
food
was
not
the
best
I
had
ever
tasted,
but
the
friendly
service
and
peaceful
atmosphere
made
up
for
it.
It
was
a
small
oasis
of
calm
in
the
midst
of
a
bustling
city,
and
I
knew
I
would
return
again
one
day
