Love The Fed! The first time I stopped in here was for a quick breakfast. I had their filter coffee (excellent) and their pastrami poutine (so good!). Then the next time we came it was me and one of my kids, she is fussy. But there was a hot dog in the menu and she really enjoyed her meal. So that was a win! And last time was really recently for a family meal and to introduce our eldest to the magic of The Fed. It’s a bit of a road trip for us to get here but it’s one of my firm stops when we need to be in Auckland Central.

What we ordered: - Grittlecakes $9 - Poutine $10.50 - Latkes w apple sauce $12 - Three way $21 - Bottomless filtered coffee $5 This was really good, which is evident through the rather large waiting list at all times (I'd definitely recommend booking a table in advance). The latkes were my personal favourite. They were super crispy and were contrasted so well by the sweet apple sauce. The poutine was also great, I wasn't sure what to think about the texture of the cheese curds but the gravy was rich and the fries soaked up the flavour really well. The grittlecake was fluffy and so magical with a crunchy cinnamon-y strudel topping and blueberry jam. I also really enjoyed the three pies. The cheesecake was simple but really great. The strawberries and cream were a great accompaniment to highlight the taste of a plain but good cheesecake. The banoffee pie wasn't really my thing, I'm not a huge fan of bananas, but I still can't deny how nice it was with the crunchy popcorn topping. The pecan pie however was my personal favourite. It was not overly sweet but still had a caramel taste and the crunchy texture was such a nice contrast to the otherwise cakey crust. I'd definitely go again because I'm super interested in trying the toasted Reuben!

I’m from New York, and The Federal claims to be an authentic New York-style Jewish delicatessen. So naturally, I had to try it out. Went here for breakfast, the griddle cakes and pastrami hash did not disappoint. Hash was tasty, but definitely not prepared in the traditional style that it would be in a Jewish deli back home. They also ran out of hot cocoa, which was a bit disappointing. Next time I go back I’ll have to try their matzoh ball soup — a staple of any worthwhile Jewish deli. Overall though, it was great, but not amazing. As someone who was born and raised around this food, I give it a solid 4/5.

Have been there twice for lunch. Pickled pork tastes fantastic and special! With a crispy crust and tender texture of pork. Hot dog is very delicious! And very sizable, can shared with two if eat other dishes. Tuna Melt is good! Very dishes are good! The staff are warm and hospitable to guests. The cheese cake was sold out and he saw my disappointment. And several minutes later came back to tell me that chef is making a new one. Very sweet! They have brunch menu and dinner menu. Will come back to try dinner. Love the place. ❤️

Best chicken salad sandwich in Auckland. It's great either toasted or fresh, but preferred it toasted. They also have the creamiest cheesecake! This is where my husband ate the morning after our wedding, so it holds a special place in my heart. :) service is top notch as well. We've been going almost every week.

Two stars, one for good service and the other for a cool interior. Other than that the food was bland, not fresh, and leaves a lot to be desired. The bagel (pictured) was dry and lacked flavor. We tried to come for dinner and the place has no parking, so we had high hopes when returning for breakfast. Unfortunately those expectations were not met.

Best cheesecakes in town! We had the fries and 3 ways pies. Fries were just okay the sauce was too salty. The cheesecake, banana toffee and the pecan pie were legit so good!

Delicious food, love the take on a New York style deli. Service was great and bottomless coffee is always appreciated. Would love to try dinner or lunch here.

Came with a friend and my 11 yr old. Had the NY strip steak, poutine fries, toasted Reuben and the three way dessert (cheesecake and pecan pie). The steak was great. Loved the poutine fries!

Must be a really good place because we arrived about 15 minutes after they opened and already the restaurant was packed! Finally got sat 40 minutes later. The employees were very friendly and was able to make suggestions. The food was yummy as friends recommended the place. The only thing I wished for was a larger selection for kids.

Auckland's Katz Deli. Nearly the same ambient as in NY's famous deli. Well, the Pastrami sandwich is way smaller but a bit more delicious. I had to visits here for a small dinner and a breakfast and both were delicious. Full recommendation.

Must have been inspired by the American dinner style and it looks very cosy. The food was a little too greasy for us but it tasted lovely and the service was smiling and helpful.

Popular place for lunch. There was about a 45-minute wait but it was well worth it. The Shaved Fennel and Apple Salad was light yet flavorful. The Best Ugly was amazing - nicely brined salmon placed on a halfed, perfectly toasted bagel was refreshing and satisfying! The Pecan Pie was a fabulous finish.

Perfectly located next to our hotel, Federal provided a perfect stop for quick bite before exploring the city. An open kitchen gives a great view of the delicious deli food being prepared. I went for the fish sandwich and was very happy with the choice. Perfectly toasted buns!

It was a completely American style meal, so I could have a good dinner because it was unique. I've been to many restaurants, but the interior of the store was impressive, and the atmosphere of the American style came out. The food was pretty good, too. The gravy fries were the best! you must eat gravy fries.. I can't say the service was very good. I didn't treat badly, but I didn't really feel the tone of voice and welcome. But if you want to have a special American meal, it's worth a visit 🤠🥯

Fed Deli is my go-to for poutine in Auckland. I always order a small plate and a sandwich (either the reuben or the chicken salad sandwich). The chicken sandwich is delicious with cheese and toasted - it has crispy chicken skin and the crunch is sooo good. Tried the tuna melt for the first time today and it was so yum!! I literally had to close my eyes to savor the flavours 🤭 The NY cheesecake is a must try, and if you like desserts, get The 3-way and taste 3 of the pies!

Great menu options here. We're a fan of the fish option, when will Al bring a seafood restaurant to Tamaki diners? The quality of produce is excellent, what you expect from a smack bang central Kiwi food experience. I noticed a great attitude and mana from the kitchen team. The wait staff, like most local institutions, need to understand service with a smile. At least Mccas gets that right every now and then. We will eat here again , it's passion on a plate!

Service & the atmosphere is great. The food is nice enough but they are tiny and a bit overpriced. The NY strip steak is nicely cooked (medium rare) but chewy. Matzo ball soup was quite salty but with an interesting taste (recommended), chicken salad sandwich was quite tasty.

American diner vibes with a nice selection of food. Food portions are slightly smaller compared to elsewhere, but otherwise normal sized for Asian appetites. Prices are at AKL CBD restaurant rates going at mid twenties to thirties for mains. The open kitchen concept is great to just gaze at if you’re seated at the counter. Wait staff are really professional and friendly. Visiting Singaporeans, be sure to spot my $2 note at one of the booths :>

  • 5/5 Ashley S. 7 months ago on Google
The restaurant is always busy so be prepared to have an outside table or wait for a booth. The vintage vibe of the booths is worth the wait though! The service is quick and the food never disappoints. I love having the poutine and American hotdog. It’s hard to find poutine made with cheese curd in New Zealand but this one is perfect! If you’re missing your North American favourites this will definitely be a hit. I went recently for a weekend dinner in the city and was lucky enough to have a booth. Service was a bit slow with waitresses walking through for initial order but not checking in after drinks were delivered. We weren’t offered water refills, asked if the food was okay, or offered dessert menus. Slightly disappointing.

This restaurant was very enjoyable. The servers were friendly, the food was delicious and the vibe was very eclectic. We had a tuna melt, a bagel with lox and a large fries. There was a short line waiting to be seated but it cleared fairly quickly.

Delicious eats here every time, great for all times of the day. A morning Best ugly bagel and the best Good Joe coffee, my favourite chicken sandwich for lunch, poutine fries for dinner and a delicious selection of pies for dessert.

Best cheesecake in town unmatched by any other place! Ordered two full cakes for an event and everyone agreed that the cakes were the highlight of the night. So dense and creamy, and great value for $85 per cake as they went a long way (one cake served a party of 25 so we had one whole cake left over).

A very reliable option for lunch or a casual dinner. The food is good, not great, but the place has a great vibe and is a fun place to hang out. The desserts are excellent and there's a good drinks menu.

A very busy place. We sat outside, the atmosphere was a buzz with the foot fraffic even in the rain. Had a line out the door. American style food. I ordered the the Montreal poutine dirty with pastrami. Being so busy we had a bit of a wait. The triple desert plate was amazing especially the Pecan pie.

Located in central Auckland CBD, this restaurant has American diner vibes. Decorations inside the restaurant (and even toilet) brings the place to life. The food itself is so-so, not too bad. The pastrami meat itself was nice and not too overly salty. The fish hoagie bun to fish ratio was high so it was hard to get a good bite of all the ingredients in one go. Overall nothing amazing but still worth a visit if you’re in town for the good vibes.

Came around 2pm for the famous Reuben. I was thinking the same style like Katz deli in NY. You know the stack of pastrami on rye bread... When we came straight away were told they are out of rye bread but do bagels. Oh well not the same, but I came for pastrami. Got just bagel with like 100g of pastrami, melted cheese and 1/4 of gherkin for almost $23? Poutine was OK, nothing special. Same goes for the potato rosti (latkes) which were soggy. Friend had veal schnitzel and wasn't impressed either. Unsure what the fuss is about. The staff was cleaning up and unless asked basically ignoring us.

Love this place would defs go back. Different food then what you would usually find in Auckland. An American vibe and staff are great. We loved the veal schnitzel! The wine and chips with gravey were yum and traditional. You can’t make a booking they only take walk ins!

A great breakfast option if you’re staying in the city. Good vibes and friendly staff. Inner cbd prices though - but they come with wholesome meals.

Went for dessert only - ordered the banana and toffee pie with a side of ice cream. The pie was delicious, perfect combo and the caramel pop corn on top just topped it all off. The ice cream came before the pies (some melted) didn’t make sense lol bring it out with it after the pie next time pls. Other then that the pie itself was solid

Most of the food was delicious. The chicken sandwich with gravy is a must get and the potato salad was flavourful. The fish Hogi was dry, so a bit of a disappointment. Service was pretty average. We had to wait at the door for ages while the wait staff just walked past. When we finally got a seat they came over to take our order ... and then 5 minutes later came back to say they forgot what the order was. Strange.

Felt like a real American diner, of only it opened late like too but that's a hard ask in AKL. Staff kept coming around to check on any additional orders and refill water. Food tasted great, portions to cost were fair. Good range of options of meals and desserts.

I had the small (half) Veal Schnitzel with sage and lemon, together a shaved fennel and apple salad. The Schnitzel was excellent, tender and tasty with a delicious crumbed crust, with sage leaves and lemon on the side. I will definitely come back just for the Schnitzel! The Fennel and apple salad was nice, but the dressing was a bit heavy handed and the sourness of the vinegar(?) took away from the taste of apple and fennel. It had the hallmarks of something potentially excellent but was not quite there in execution. I finished the meal off with a slice the New York Cheesecake. This was excellent. They can do smaller half slices if you fear that it might be too much after your dinner. Despite only giving this 4 stars (for the salad), I will be back the next time I visit Auckland!

Food was good but staff need to be more alert. Too many times that the staff are not as attentive as they should be. Orders are always wrong

Finished my yoga class on Saturday morning, quickly popped in here for a brunch, my first time visit although I’ve been eating to try long time ago. had toasted Reuben sandwich, waited for about almost half an hour, a quite a big one for me, the beef was a bit salty, still yummy. Would like to come back to try others if the food doesn’t take long to arrive.
