🫤 Roti was not good, the roti tasted like bread, probably like the other reviews, not as good as before. Probably chief has changed. The noodles was alright, slightly too salty and spicy. Service attitude wasn’t the best, low key tried pushing us out of the store, always saying store is about to close... People often mention Malaysian, good, delicious, roti, chicken, goreng, staff, laksa, taste,

CURRY CHICKEN NOODLE - A must have dish here. Served in a massive bowl, full of flavour, veges and heaps of chicken within. This is a flavour punching delicious curry Noodle dish. You must have this here. Sambal chickens flavour was good, but was very diluted, hence would recommend a skip on it The staff were friendly. The environment is a bit out dated, but it still is a delicious dining experience so you forget about the environment. Will be back again!

Love love love this place authentic, delicious Malaysian food. The best option is to get some small plates and one big plate and try a little bit of everything. So much flavor. The staff was very nice and food came quickly and was fresh. Definitely worth a stop in Auckland!

I had the chicken curry and it was delicious. Photo is of my colleague's laksa. Can't wait to go back and try something else. Reasonably priced for the CBD too.

Serving sizes are pretty big here (I managed to have half for lunch and the other half for dinner) and the food is good. Service is quick and staff are friendly.

Rating/Review edit - May 2022 Changing my very positive review and rating from ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ that I gave in 2018 to ⭐⭐ in 2022. I was a regular at this place for my favourite Malaysian food since 2018. However, I'm disappointed with my last visit (nearly after two years). The taste and quality of the food deteriorated. This was the best Malaysian food restaurant in Auckland CBD once. I guess the pandemic might have forced the restaurant management to alter the recipe/dish; or might be a change in the kitchen staff. They should have focused on keeping the authenticity and increase the price of the dishes (they don't have any competition in CBD). This place was once crowded and I always waited for more than 10+ minutes to get a seat especially during the weekend. Sadly, I was their only customer on a Saturday evening today. ####################### The best place in Auckland for authentic Malaysian street food.

I’ve been coming to this place since 2015 and still have the same quality and taste of food since then. This place can easily be jampack. Luckly when we went its not that busy. They have quick service and staff are nice. Food is always superb!

Tried their vegetarian nasi goreng, delicious and spicy. Teh Tarik is a bit too sweet for me. Seating area is limited though.

We discovered this little gem hiding in Chancery Square. The rendang and the roti canai captured the Malaysian taste. Quite filling portions.

For tapas, I would recommend trying soft shell crabs and sambar fish balls and for mains Seafood laksa & Nasi Lemak. For drinks, you have to try the Malaysian coffee (kopi).

I ordered roti canai, but it tastes really different to Malaysia, the roti is too thick. Hmm

Second time here in two days. I got the Seafood laksa "very spicy" today and it was delicious. By American standards, it was more of a "medium" spicy. Wonderful flavors. Great kopi (coffee with sweetened condensed milk). Good prices. lovely location. Very friendly.

A simple Malaysian restaurant with choices of authentic Malaysian dishes. I enjoyed their Char Kway Teow and the chicken bites. Also, their teh ais was icy cold—perfect for hot weather!

Would not recommend!! The food tastes bland, the Mee Goreng was too soaking wet with diced tomato, don’t know why they put them in. Chicken sambal was wet like a soup instead of stir fried. The only ok dish was the fried fish ball which was not even home made. Straight from the package deep fried fish ball was the only dish that have the right flavour. Very disappointed as we gave Mamak too many chances. As far as I can see, there were only tourists customers.

Takeout ... More poppadum than roti. Undercooked squid. Disappointed.

Fast delivery of of food to the table. Everything was tasty especially the Satay and sauce. Discount for cash was a bonus. Atmosphere a little noisy and lacklustre but makes up for it with everything else. Well worth the stop if in central Melbourne.

The worst malaysian food I have ever eaten. The lady next to our table also struggled to finish hers. Dry roti, soggy and smelly and tasteless mee goreng, oily spring rolls. The only good thing was a chilled sprite. Would not recommend at all.

Ordered on HungryPanda and after 10 minutes, they still haven’t accepted the order. I had to call to get the order accepted. I wish they had just canceled it because the food I received was the worst malaysian food I have ever eaten. The chicken curry was swimming in oil, I had to scoop out the 2cm thick layer of oil before eating. It was so bland. The beef rendang didn’t even taste like beef rendang, it was so tasteless I was baffled at the lack of flavour. The roti was hard and chewy and didn’t feel fully cooked.

These noodles were too oily. Everything else is excellent.

It is quite tricky to find this place. We had mee goreng mamak and teh tarik. The mee goreng did not look and taste exactly like mee goreng mamak, though it helped to overcome our craving for it. A bit pricy but the portion is big. The teh tarik was good. The staff was good and kind. Highly recommended.

Ordered via Menulog for pick up. Got a Nasi Lemak with Beef Rendang and a Seafood Laksa. I would happily say it's the best Laksa I've had in New Zealand. It was creamy and had the perfect blend of flavours. The noodles were springy and the seafood was fresh and not chewy at all. Never skip on the tofu, these morsels sponge up all the juices for a delicious mouthful. Cannot wait to have it again!

Best laksa in Auckland. Chicken is cooked perfectly and the food is hot. The chicken noodles are super yum as well. Great prices and genuinely good food. I go here almost weekly. It’s got the hole in the wall vibe but is clean and great service. Small but fantastic! This review has made me decide to go tonight.

Absolutely LOVE this place and been coming here since I was a Uni student!!! It's changed ownership once as far as I know but the quality of the food certainly has not. Featured below is two of our staple orders: satay chicken with rice and nasi goreng. Each meal is always accompanied by a cup of hot teh tarik (that's just how I roll). This place doesn't take bookings but rock up and they'll accommodate you. Trust me - it's worth the wait! Went here for dinner last week and had the beef rendang and I was quite disappointed. It was flavourless and the beef was so dry. It looked like there was basically just water added to my curry (see photo below) and the cabbage wasn't great either. It needed to be finally chopped and not taste like it was just boiled. My teh tarik had no sweetness to it at all. It has to be the worst serving I've had since going here for over a decade. I think I'll go to the Takapuna branch from now on.

I had dinner here with my family, we were so satisfied with the yummy Malaysian food . Portions are big real value for the price . Staff was friendly. We’ll definitely return to Mamak.

Came here for the Laksa. Pros- big portion. Can be shared for 2. Seafood laksa is the same price of chicken. Good value for money Cons- the laksa is a little bland. I have expected more considering people have been raving about it. Overall: would i return back for Laksa? Probably not. I would probably check some other options
