Bodrum Ancient Theatre

Tourist attraction Historic site

👍👍 A really good place to see the ruins of old city. Government maintained it really well and you will even find security on the site. The view from top of it is really beautiful, you can see whole bodrum from there. It's not so far from the old castle, you can walk easily here. People often mention Bodrum, ancient, theater, view, free, good, beautiful, worth, amphitheater, walk,

(Translated by Google) The ancient theater with its excellent location and the free energy, the atmosphere is another here! Among the interesting qualities of the theater are the altar where the sacrifices were sacrificed for Dionysus before the plays and the holes between some of the seats, which may have been used as a canopy. With a distance of 40 centimeters between each seat in the cavea section, the theater has a capacity of 13,000 people and has 55 rows, 30 at the bottom and 25 at the top. The rows of seats in the theater are divided into 12 sections by 11 vertical stairs.

Interesting place to visit, you can climb the steps almost to the top. The very top is sectioned off for safety reasons.

Liked to see an ancient site still functional and available for events. Requires attention to preserve a presentable amenity for visitors and future venues. Location accessible by car as the safest way to reach it. Remains of past controls suggest that required paid admission to enter.

Well worth the visit. If you walk from Bodrum it's a little bit of a long walk and the road is a bit hairy but definitely worth it! Great views and it's free.

To be honest, I think there could be a little more done to display the amphitheater properly… but still, nice and quick archeological pit stop :)

Not much left from the ancient Carian city except maybe this magnificently restored theater/odeon which presently serves as a open air concert hall during the season. With magnificent views overlooking Bodrum Bay and the Castle, it is an unforgettable experience to attend to events held here specially during the sunset in the evening. Do not miss...

The theatre saved in a good condition. As the guide said, the first level was reconstructed but thae second left as it was an origin. Unfortunately, we not told whether the government is planning to reconstruct the second seats level.

It's a nice place to get away from the hustle and bustle. Climb upstairs, make yourself comfortable, and imagine that the stage is already singing...

Bodrum Ancient Theatre is part of the Helicarnassus Ancient City unearthed off D303 en route to Bodrum and Gumusluk. This amphitheater dates back to Greco-Roman times. Currently hosts festivals, concerts & other events. Visitors can walk up to the top and sit alongside the stage area. Would love to hear the acoustics and feel the energy in the centuries old amphitheatre. The views of the sea are amazing and would have liked to explore inside but it was fenced at the time we visited.

The place is free and gives a panorama view of the city amazing structure

  • 5/5 Dave T. 10 months ago on Google
Right on the hill at the back of the town, the amphitheatre is cut into the hill itself. The view is fantastic over the Bodrum Bay. The entry is free and is only 10 minutes' walk uphill from the port or a couple of euro by taxi. It's still used and has been preserved much better since Turkey has started looking after their antiquities more in the 90s. Careful, though, on the main busy 4 lane road in Bodrum

It was a beautiful ancient amphitheater. Just it could be better if they would make it a little better because you feel you're visiting some stones! But actually it's a great historical place with a great sea view.

Well maintained amphitheater - free to enter. But close to the main highway which can be dangerous to cross but actual amphitheater is good, especially for photos!

  • 4/5 Harrison Y. 3 years ago on Google
Perhaps not so different or even less spectacular than many of the other ancient theaters, but this offers a wonderful view once you climb to the top - the theater with Bodrum and the Aegean as your background. It's a short 15 mins excursion from Bodrum, so it's worth a quick stop.

(Translated by Google) A well-preserved antique theater. It is located up the road from the ruins of the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus. It's nice that the entrance is free. There are beautiful views of the city. But in the heat it is very difficult to walk in an open space. You just think where to hide from the sun.
