(Translated by Google) Mahmoud Mokhtar (May 10, 1891 - March 28, 1934) is one of the few leading artists in sculpture and owner of the famous Renaissance statue of Egypt and has a museum with its name to date. It is a museum of artist Mahmoud Mokhtar. Mahmoud Mukhtar grew up in the areas of Mahalla al-Kubra and specifically in the village of Tanbara. His father, Ibrahim al-Issawi, was the mayor of the village but Mukhtar lived with his grandmother in his uncle's house in Manshah village in Mansoura. In the mud he saw the views around him in the village. Mahmoud Mukhtar was born in Cairo in 1902 and lived in the old neighborhood. The school of Fine Arts was opened nearby. In 1908, the "Jamil Path" was the entrance of the boy to an unexpected future after he joined the first batch, at the age of 17. A bright choice for the foreign professors, which led them to dedicate a "special studio" within the school building, to prepare sculptures of statues, shapes and restore the scenes of the countryside, and the features of the neighborhood comrades. His talent also pushed the school's patron, Prince Yusuf Kamal, to send the boy to Paris to study there. Just as Michael Angelo grew up under the patronage of the Florentine Prince Lorenzo de Medici, Mahmoud Mukhtar grew up in the care of the Egyptian prince Yusuf Kamal. Mokhtar received his first art lessons at the school attached to Prince Yusuf Kamal Bey's palace Mahmoud Mokhtar contributed to the establishment of the School of Fine Arts and participated in several exhibitions outside the works of art was a great success and set up a special exhibition for his work in Paris in 1930 and that was a reason to introduce the modern Egyptian school in art and recorded birth in front of Critics of international art. The pioneer artist lived a wide life full of stories of success, excellence and conflict in order to put the sculpture in the highest position of society, which was opposed to the manufacture of statues and considered an extension of the industry of idols. The artist developed his talent in the service of the national movement, expressing his views on the social and political stage he experienced: the Renaissance and the search for the local character in the wake of the 1919 revolution. His art received the respect and appreciation of the French official circles in the artistic field, and at the same time gained enthusiastic support from the Egyptian public Which ignited this national revolution. Mokhtar was the first artist to exhibit art at an international exhibition in Paris. He was also the first Egyptian artist to win a prize from the Paris Salon, surpassing its artists. He won the gold medal of the annual French artists' exhibition at the Grand Serail (Grand Palais) . Which he then executed carved in a pink granite stone to be held in the largest areas of Cairo. He won a prize from the Paris Salon in 1925 for his statue of Am Kulthum. He was the first Arab artist to hold a personal exhibition of his sculptures in Paris. His works represent the starting point of the modern sculpture movement, not only in Egypt but in all the Arab countries. This is because he achieved in his short life a wide fame and won a public honor that was not won by any other Egyptian artist, either in his life or after his death. The only artist received by the demonstrations welcome Alexandria when he returned to Egypt from Europe to erect a statue to commemorate the national revolution after the statues of the fields only depicting the kings and leaders of individuals .. The farmers donated their money and loans to cover the expenses of the establishment of this statue. After the end of the World War (1914-1918), the vow of revolution began to gather against English colonialism in Egypt under three slogans: independence, justice and the constitution. The Wafd Party, led by Saad Zaghloul, began to form its secret organization, the Black Hand. Mahmoud Mokhtar sculpted the representative of the Egyptian popular leader Saad Zaghloul in Cairo and Alexandria between 1930 and 1932 (Original)

Mahmoud Mukhtar is of course one of the big names in Egyptian art, that's why this place is not only important for his legacy, it's also important for hosting many artistic events, festivals and galleries (here are some photos from Cairo Comix 8) I also love the location of this museum facing the opera house.

Mahmoud Mokhtar Museum, one of the unique museums in Cairo fir art lovers, although it is small but has a the most wonderful sculpture work of the great Mahmoud Mokhtar. The lighting focused on the pieces need to be stronger, and a brochure needed for the life of this great Artist, it surely needs more attention. The grave of Mahmoud Mokhtar lays inside the museum.

I just turned up (Mon 28th Feb 2022) and the museum is closed. It would be a good courtesy to your visitors who have travelled from far away / abroad to update your Google Maps opening hours to avoid wasting people's time.

The museum beautifully showcases the works of sculptor Mahmoud Mukhtar. I found his work impressive and graceful. The layout and organization of the museum is appropriate. Please follow the rules while you are there and do not touch the works! Best to leave raucous children at home.

So sorry I have to give just 1 star to a museum in the city of Cairo, which I love so much. This is my case: I have carefully planned every hour of my short holiday and checked and double checked in advance, on site. After the Khalil museum visit (lovely, highly recommended) I specially asked, while it was 14:30, Mahmoud Mukhtar museum staff by the entrance, if they are indeed open until 17:00, as displayed on the website and google maps. Moreover I asked if it is OK to come at 16:00 on the dot, to have just under an hour before closure for this museum visit. Mahmoud Mukhtar Museum staff replied yes sure, do come at 16:00 today, you will have an hour, enough time! My wife and I specially came in good time, at 15:50. The museum gate was closed and the security said all staff had left and locked the museum. For us, since our departure flight is Saturday and Friday is a day off for all museums, that means never seeing this culture highlight. May I express my deepest dissatisfaction with the extremely unprofessional attitude of museum staff. I go along with the comment from Nick B of 28 February 2022: it appears that this museum's staff have no consideration for the visitors, depriving them of an important part of Egyptian culture, simply because at no notice museum staff suddenly decided to have a shorter working day. My greatest and most negative culture shock ever.

The museums have some unique sculptures yet it need massive renovations for the Lighting ,decorations and most importantly air conditioning since egypt is a girlie hot country , additional to that we received information while ensuring that the place is infested with rats . Which isn’t pleasant for the experience overall

A selection of art exhibits: The Renaissance of Egypt statue: made of pink granite, the height is 7 meters and the width at the base is 8 meters, it depicts a woman standing in the clothes of an Egyptian peasant, raising the veil on her face with her left hand, while her right is spread out to touch with her fingers the head of the statue of the Sphinx that unfolds its front legs in an expression of advancement. In this statue, the artist refers to the Egyptian people as the mother peasant. Saad Zaghloul's head statue: It is made of bronze and its height is 104 cm. The Jar Bearer Statue: Made of bronze, its height is 84 cm. The Fields Keeper statue: made of browns, its height is 45 cm, it depicts a giant peasant standing firmly with his head raised, with his stick resting on his shoulders, holding it with his right while he leans on it to his left in a wonderful relaxed position from an aesthetic point of view. The statue of sadness: made of basalt, its height is 35 cm. This statue reflects an understanding (chosen) of the spirit and depths of the ancient Egyptians funerary sculpture. Back from the river: made of limestone, 47 cm high, depicts three peasants returning from the river carrying jars filled with water. The merry farmer: the statue of "the merry farmer" is a wonderful artwork that joined the museum exhibit scenario recently (July 2016).
