👍👍 We stopped here for rooftop drinks and desserts on our first day visiting Cape Town. We were able to find a nice lounge location for the five of us. The vibe was chill and it was a gorgeous spot to see the sunset. I ordered the Litchi & Basil cocktail. It was refreshing and a good size. And we order... The service here is really really really horrible. Been following them for a very long time and finally went yesterday. We were given no chairs at the bar while we waited for a table. When we finally got a table, they tell us we can only stay for an hour. We had no waiter and had to randomly call someone and ask to be served. When we ordered our food, the food came with no cutlery. We call the manager who’s name is Arthur to explain to him our situation and how bad the service we’ve been getting is, before I even finished speaking, this guy is speaking over me giving me excuses and justifications and just defending his staff. Zero listening or communication or people skills whatsoever. He Did absolutely nothing to help or resolve the issues but instead suggested that if we’re not happy we should rather leave. Never recommending or coming back here again. Such a pity because it’s a really cute spot, but the service dampens the whole vibe.

If you are accustomed to friendly and welcoming service at the door and in restaurants - especially if you’re coming from abroad, this establishment is a miss. The rudest, most inappropriate manager I’ve ever come across whom spoke to his staff in order to translate a message to guests only a foot away which was well in earshot. The manager, Saul/Shaull/Sean, who’s ego is far too large for the hospitality industry and communication skills is as dull and unprofessional as you can find. I’d suggest looking elsewhere in Camps Bay for better service and well-mannered managers. (our waiter, Oscar, was great, pity - Chinchilla is situated in a lovely location which might compensate for any mishaps you may experience with the manager)

Booked a terrace table for Saturday at sunset and oh boy, the views are magical. Add some amazing and refreshing cocktails, tasty food, great service and cool music and you have a great evening to spend there. Keith was our waiter and did a great job in making sure we’re all good and happy. The only reason I didn’t rate 5 stars is that it took a bit long to serve the food (about 25 minutes) but looks like it’s not only us, seems to be a busy night I guess. Would definitely come back again.

We visited Camps Bay for the first time yesterday, and what a gem this place is. Close to Cape Town but has a village vibe to the place. We went to the promenade, which is chock-a-block with bars, and we picked the best one - Chinchilla. The best view, a good selection of cocktails and cracking sushi (unfortunately no pictures). We stayed much longer than planned because it was so nice. Certainly coming back here.

I had an awful experience yesterday the 5th December 2020 at this now trendiest restaurant. I happen to be in Camps Bay with my partner trying to get a place to have lunch, I remembered Chinchilla as I had been there 2 years prior and had enjoyed their signature cocktail ‘the purple haze’. We didn’t have a reservation and were just trying to see if we would get a table. We got in and were accommodated for. The host led us to a table close to the bar and just placed the menus on top of the table, but didn’t say anything to us. We sat down as he was taking care of girls that were already seated at the bar. After 10mins of not being attended to, I had to enquire whether we would be served or not. The person that sat us down informed us that there would be someone that would attend to us. We waited for another 10mins and I again asked if we would be helped. The host at this time was taking the girls that he was assisting at the bar to another table. I just had enough of this bad service and asked my partner if we could leave. I informed host that we were leaving and that their service was beyond poor, that we were going somewhere else rather. Luckily downstairs at Zenzero we had the best service and their cuisine was delicious. I was so disappointed with this service and will never go back to this Chinchilla restaurant. I often have visitors from out of town and would recommend restaurants that they should try out when they are in town. Chinchilla would definitely not be one of them.

Celebrated a friends surprise 40th birthday here and really enjoyed it! Spectacular views of Campsbay beach and watching the sunset. Service was 👌 and food 🤤. We had various tapas and champers. Lovely spot for sundowners 🌞🍹

I made an online reservation a MONTH ago stating that it was my daughter's birthday and could we please have a sea facing table. We arrived on time and all the sea facing tables were taken. You can imagine how disappointed we were. Why would the other patrons at the sea facing tables take preference above us? When did they book, and are they celebrating birthdays? I doubt it. We were totally disregarded. I called for the manager and all he focused on was that it states on the website that no requests can be guaranteed. No apologies, and no reservation table in sight. So if one is celebrating an anniversary, graduation or an engagement, one cannot be assured that one will get a sea facing table, no matter how far in advance the booking is made. This is not the Festive or holiday season - it's a Thursday, for goodness sake. Total wash out......

A group of us were really looking forward to go to this highly recommended restaurant in Camps Bay, unfortunately we did 3 separate bookings because we weren’t aware how many people would confirm attendance, 10 of us arrived and we were celebrating an engagement. We were extremely disappointed at the service, the ambience and place is great, the managers refused to budge with accommodating us in the same area despite our tables being on the balcony in the prime spots, they were extremely rude and unaccommodating… there was a group of 2 people who were prepared to move so that we could be together but they still refused to budge, eventually we left the restaurant and took our money elsewhere. It was not even busy and most restaurant managers try and make a plan to accommodate individuals. Extremely disappointed at the managers and front desk staff!

Chilled spot. You can watch the sun set on camps bay. The staff is friendly. The food is good. If you want to sit in the front, call ahead of time to reserve, they will try their best to accommodate you.

Oh my when I talk about beautiful setting you talking this place, it mind blowing to watch sunset. From the reception the staff was warm and sweet. What I've liked most about this place is the food I enjoyed everything about my meal, I thought my food was worth even more That burger was too delicious, the good quility service was a dessert on top.

Great position & view. We had salmon roses, mussels and chargrilled chicken. The food is delicious. The drinks are expensive, but beware, even though you may come of the beach, you need footwear!

Terrible service, rude manager. We arrived and they did not inform us the sushi menu was closing a few minutes after we arrived leaving us with limited options. Ordered fries and they came as crunchy as they come, I couldn’t even eat them. The steak was flavourless and the chicken was dry. Food came with no cutlery, we had to ask for several missing items from our order. Wouldn’t recommend if you’re accustomed to good food and great service. Waste of a prime venue.

The decor is beautiful, the views are great but the food isn’t the best. My friend & I had to get our steaks remade as we requested medium rare that came fully cooked. The second steaks were too rare & at this point we were too hungry to send it back. The cocktails were good & service too but the food needs work.

We were there for a friend's birthday during patches of load shedding. The place was dark, the computers weren't working and no additional lighting or candles were provided. Had to ask our waiter 3 times for glasses for water. The cheapest Tequila available was Don Julio at R85 a shot which we were not informed of when ordering. No vegetables available on the menu as side option, only bread and fries. For the high end European prices you are paying we were not very impressed. First round of margaritas needed to be sent back. Won't be visiting again in a hurry or recommend to our guests.

We popped in for lunch (20/11/2022) after a visit to Table Mountain. The place had a nice vibe and spectacular views over Camps Bay Beach - I can imagine sitting there in the evening watching the sunset. We had a few cocktails and some sushi - all were good, and because we enjoyed the atmosphere and the views, we decided to stay for a bit longer and also had some wine. Great location, right by the beach, and good service. Would definitely come back.

I was not impressed, which was disappointing, as we were looking to try it out as one of our must go to places, in Cape Town. Our waiter Thulz, seemed out of it. Drinks order took forever, including water, which we kept asking for. We ordered 4 portions of fries, which were meant to each come with a 'secret sauce', but we only got one (to share). My friend ordered a chicken burger which was dry. I ordered a mocktail that was meant to have apple, and soda, and mint, and lemonade, but got one with water, lemon and plenty of ice. Super unimpressed! The 2 stars are for the venue and the atmosphere 😔

I would like to commend the waiter who waited my table this past Sunday, Thulz for his outstanding customer service. He was extremely polite and made my family and I feel very welcome. He even offered to take a few pictures as he saw we were struggling to do it ourselves. He then proceeded to make a short video of the entire setting upon my request and WOW! the video looks absolutely professional as well as the single shots which he took. I would like to put in a recommendation to make Thulz your restaurants photographer or social media manager. He possesses a skill set beyond waiting tables, and giving in-house staff an opportunity makes them feel recognized and appreciated. Thank you Chinchilla for the wonderful experience, the delicious food and beverages, and for organizing a table for myself and crew last minute.

Gorgeous views and ambience. Friendly, welcoming staff. Decent food and drink. Extremely longggggg time for the food to come out, and with three different people attending to our table, many requests were forgotten. I’d return for the views!

I don't mind paying double the price for a drink, but to order a Castle Light draught for R75 expecting to get a 500ml Ice Cold beer but end up with closer to a 350ml which is warmet than what the sun was and you complain, and you just get said, oh sorry, that makes it so easy to rate this place as terrible and will not see me again. Only nice thing was the view. Overall I think the prices are outrages for what you get. After that I went to Mozambik were I got Ice Cold 500ml draughts for R42 and great service. You should change your name to cha ching.

Loved every moment of our experience there. We did not have a reservation. However, everyone from the lovely hostess to our waiter, Thulz, and the managers made every aspect amazing. It's definitely one of my new chill spots in Cape Town.

  • 2/5 Waleed B. 6 months ago on Google
Chinchilla undoubtedly impresses with it's looks, very relaxed beach feel and modern bohemian island style. It fits in well with Camps Bay and Cape Town and definitely is an establishment worth a visit. Where the design and concept stand tall, other aspects that would've made a good evening great unfortunately fell flat. Service was slow and while staff were fairly friendly the attentiveness seemed to be lacking. 2 items on our order never arrived and we were billed for one of those. All could be forgiven however, compromises on service do not go unnoticed. The food however was good although lacking some flavour and balance but the real stars on the menu are the drinks. Flavour profiles were accurate and drinks were beautifully mixed and presented. Chinchilla is without a doubt a product of Kove, less the service issues, and is definitely worth a return particularly in the Cape summer season for late sunsets and warm evening ocean breezes.

I love Chinchilla in Camps Bay Cape Town and I have been going there since they opened up. Chinchilla is a part of the elite Kove Collection of hospitality venues which are owned by the lovely Kovensky family and are a huge success due to the tireless entrepreneurial skills of Paul Kovensky. If you want amazing food, cold drinks and some of the best sunsets in Cape Town, then you need to visit this hidden gem of hospitable excellence

Great view, stylish rooftop bar. Service is tries their best to their abilities but for 4 or 5 star rating it is not enough. Food just average so 3 stars is fair in my opinion.

The vibe and ambiance here is amazing and it's definitely aesthetically pleasing, views and all. I did not get the best service, my waiter took long and they didn't have much of a mocktail menu and they didn't stock up on the ingredients for the mocktail that actually made me go there. The menu is also not that exciting. I'm guessing it's a bar as the bar was fully stocked even though regulations didn't allow us a drink. The place is clean and aesthetically pleasing. Even the bathrooms
