Lovely place we came across. Super friendly staff all around. Cool outdoor dining even in a light rain. Great for people watching. The place is large enough (without feeling huge) to host a bar (with tv), dining area and outdoor seating. Menu is mainly pub grub with burgers, pastas, and salads. We enjoyed salads, burger and the very large roasted vegetables platter. This platter is for sharing. Extensive drink menu. Recommend and would return.

Love coming back to Cafe Manhattan! The energy here is always light and fun! It's perfect for a quick drinks catchup with friends, and if you're feeling peckish, they have a great bar style menu. Be warned, their burgers are massive and can easily be shared.

Love Manhattan! As a tourist, I felt very at home. The staff is so friendly as is the crowd. I met different folks there each night I visited. Drinks are very reasonably priced and the music is fun. Gabriel, Colin, GueGue and Brian provided excellent service. I’ll be back!

Cocktails are putrid. Not sure if it's watered down or cheap alcohol. Service is slow. Closing times vary. Serve a proper Cocktail and then run a cocktail special. September 2020 - Revisited and the place is amazing, great service, superb food. Love the Thursday Ribb special. Ever changing decor keeping up with the trends.

Super cute place in the center if the city, there are seats inside but also on the terrace outside. We ordered some cocktails and they were pretty good and well done! Good atmosphere and kind staff, perfect if you want to spent couple of hours in a nice place! I recommended it for sure!

Fun!!! Colorful, crowded, classic bar food. I got the vegetable platter which was giant and not just the stereotypical healthy vegetables, also had onion rings, fries all sorts of stuff. The milkshake was good too. Also got a salad, although wasn’t a fan of the taco shell bowl they put the salad in to be honest… nevertheless, still a great place.

I had the beef bobotie spring rolls with a chutney dipping sauce and salsa. The beef was fabulous as well as the chutney. My husband ordered the ostrich, but they misunderstood and brought him a steak. Even though my husband insisted that it was fine, they made up for the mistake with a free drink. The steak was so-so, but the mushroom sauce was delicious. Our server, James, was exceptionally nice and visited with us for a few minutes.

Great spot for a drink and/or meal. Service is super-friendly and engaging taking a minute to really connect. We shared a Greek salad then had a filet and ribeye. Both steaks were perfect medium rare. The joint is very LGBT friendly and the decor reflects that in a very fun way. Convivial times at the bar too of that’s what you’re looking for.

Over the last couple of visits as a local Cape Townian I’m extremely disappointed by what was a favourite watering hole. Getting a drink is honestly an unnecessary long wait for no apparent reason besides the bartenders being rude, arrogant and unwilling to provide decent service. Secondly they and the table staff seemingly take chances with groups and bills, double charging and asking people to settle bills already paid. Luckily Cape Town has a lot of places to frequent, but saddened by one of our favourites turning into a disappointment.

I absolutely love this place's service. Came here in a rush late at night for some food. The burgers are absolutely amazing. Even forget to take a proper picture before digging in 😄.

Nice ambience. Good waiters for food and decent menu and kitchen. What kills it is the bar staff. The locals say “this is Cape Town we just deal with it”. It is like watching the three stooges run a bar. Total incompetence at all stages. You need to ask for drinks two or three times. They forget your order. You watch them stumble over each other confused. Then it takes another ten to fifteen minutes for your bill to arrive. And you may be extorted the next day if they didn’t bill you right the first day. I would encourage them to hire a bar manager from any other city in the world to clean house. With proper management I think it would be a five star spot.

From walking in to receiving the freshly made meals, this spot has been an absolute experience. Worthwhile popping by and ordering their longisland iceteas and enjoying the energetic atmosphere and staff. The jalapeno poppers and chicken strips are a bomb! See you here guys!

Friendly staff, drinks and food were tasty, wonderful outdoor seating to watch people and cars

Went here during Happy Hour and were told that if we ordered a bottle of wine we would get one free! Sounded good! Sadly when the bill came it was for R280 so obviously there was no good deal here. A bottle of Spiers retails at R70. 400% Mark up. We felt ripped off. Very disappointed!

Great sizable gay cafe/bar. All the pics are legit. Easy to meet friends. The location isn't much trafficked and aggressive homeless people made me feel unsafe on a 20 mins walk there. I Ubered home.

Sadly I am struggling on this review - whilst the place has a great vibe, friendly staff , good food our last visit left a sour taste in my mouth. Found that on my bill I had been over charged for two drinks .. 6 drinks for 4 people .. highlighted the issue and they removed - happy with that .. however my friend then looked at their receipt from the previous round and the same had happened on that round .. highlighted to the barman who then got defensive and said we had had 6 drinks - clearly this was not the case with a group of four .. I then seemed to be surrounded by 4 staff members - all becoming involved in the situation ??? However - nothing was refunded and after a while I gave up highlighting the issue - we had the last round and left .. So just check your receipts everyone ….

Rolled up here solo pretty late in the evening for some drinks. Was my first queer spot in the city and I had a great time. Despite being alone, folks were extremely friendly and chatty and I felt very welcomed. In fact, the security guy was in particular verrryyyyy friendly/flirty which made for a very interesting experience. Def recommend as a spot to start off your queer night in The Mother City. 🌈

I'm told that lots of gay bars and clubs in Cape Town have closed down. Cafe Manhattan remains sands I can understand why. They have a great vibe, super friendly staff and great music. I actually think the music there was better than the club we went to later. Had a hilarious incident where the top of my pepper mill came off and covered my potato wedges in pepper. Our waitress didn't bat an eyelid, took it away and brought us a fresh plate of food.

To me this is one of the most stable landmarks in Die Waterkant. It's great to have a venue that doesn't change much. Always the same friendly service, well priced drinks and good food.
