The Gardeners Cottage Restaurant

Restaurant Cafe Bakery

👍 One of Cape Town's best breakfast spots. The tranquil serenity under the massive trees, makes Gardener's Cottage virtually unique in the city. Yes, we saw a squirrel. Expect top grub, personable staff, and a damn decent cup of coffee. I can recommend the veggie breakfast as a real treat. Gardener Cottage is a delightful restaurant! We loved our lunch there, and Nikita, the cook, even offered amazing options for the vegans in our group. The ambiance under the big old trees added to the charming experience. The salted caramel chocolate tarte was the best one we've ever tasted, and the super friendly staff made our experience even more enjoyable.

The place I've been going during lockdown to get my weekly treat and they are so worth it. Any of their baked goods are amazing and you will not be disappointed with anything you choose. Its also nice to get some real coffee out of the house. Thank you for keeping me sane.

The food here is sublime, the Eggs Benedict is (in my opinion) the finest in Cape Town. The coffee is also fantastic. Highly recommend

Great service and loved the ambience. First time trying eggs benedict and the bacon eggs benedict just set the bar for any future choices🤩. My sister also loved the venue for her birthday.

Breakfasts (full and vegetarian) were perfect. Service was excellent. Coffee (uber) great too. Highly recommended. Take a walk around the various other shops on the grounds after breakfast.

A lovely spot for some cake and coffee. The outside area is decently shaded and the chairs are comfortable. I enjoyed both the cake and coffee I ordered. They also have a wide variety of cakes to choose from. The staff are all friendly and service was quick.

A delightful restaurant for breakfast. Inside us cosy and outside is lovely for those summery days. The breakfast bun with perfect fluffy scrambled eggs and a side salad with such fresh veggies. Hubby loved his chicken mayo and our friend enjoyed her health vegan option of avo and toast. We shared the almond and berry tart which was also delicious. Friendly and warm service. There are some interesting shops in the Montebello Design Centre - always fun to browse around if you have time.

A most enjoyable lunch in a beautiful setting. Good service and no one thinks about the percieved issues in RSA

Pretty place with lovely, helpful staff. Unfortunately the meals are quite pricey and not something I would label as “value for money”. Order an omelet for around R70 and you don’t even get a slice of toast. An open sandwich for R80 with no chips, salad or anything. The chicken mayo open toasted sandwich is nice though, especially when topped with bacon. Prices are a bit excessive, but all good if you can afford it. I probably won’t go back.

Food portions were incredibly small. Ordered the Eggs Benedict and I was thoroughly disappointed considering the price I paid. Garden setting is good though. Don't think ill eat there again personally.

Hello there, This was a random surprise. A nice place to chill. We came here after a hike from the New-lands forest. Although not many tables, the place was neat and comfy. There is also board games for you to play, so try not to be on your phone. Definitely a place you must visit. However, their coffee isn’t the strongest. Maybe I was just too tired 😂 But enjoy it!

The food was absolutely delicious. It was my first time there and we had breakfast. It was not too busy when we got there but filled up quickly and got really busy as the food is delicious and the setting is gorgeous. I am definitely taking my mom there soon as I think she would love it.

Best place for a coffee and cake adventure but a wonderful menu for breakfast or lunch, depending on your desire Beautiful outside venue - cool beneath the trees on a hot day Small play area for kids Friendly efficient staff

It's one of our favorite spots for a Sunday breakfast. Staff is friendly and service is efficient. Also helps that they have a well stocked selection of yummy cakes.

An absolute country delight. A lovely, warm atmosphere under the trees. The food was incredible and so was the service. Will definitely be visiting again.

Came here for Valentine’s Day and I was mildly disappointed. Beside making a reservation, i had to wait 7-10 minutes before I was seated. Most of the staff members were friendly and welcoming, but the waiter I was assigned was inattentive and slow. Beside that, the breakfast/brunch menus was quite diverse and interesting. Their warm beverages also well varied and well priced. The cafe mocha was the best I’ve had this year and the cruffin also pleasantly surprised me. It was served with a few home made jams, also on sale, which suited the pastry well. The overall ambience of the restaurant is very warm and casual. There was sitting inside and outside, so it’s perfect for any weather. I would consider coming back, despite the waiter situation, as the feel of the cafe is cozy 🫶🏽

Set amongst ancient trees this gorgeous restaurant serves up a variety of delicious dishes and some sweet treats like lemon meringue pie. The coffee is excellent too. And like most popular and great spots you need to book a table. It’s adjacent to the Montebello Design Centre which has a variety of beautiful locally produced arts and crafts. A very salubrious veggie stall is also on the grounds and sells fresh locally sourced produce none of which is bound in plastic or polystyrene! I’d recommend a visit to the Gardener’s Cottage for breakfast, tea, brunch and lunch!

Beautiful setting under the big trees. Lovely food, value for money. Good coffee and outstanding baked goods.

A lovely little gem in Newlands. You can walk around to the different stands and buy your fresh produce, get a takeaway coffee, kids small play area, a little cafe for smaller meals and drinks, a bigger restaurant with more variety, a nursery, gallery etc.. apparently in summer you can order a picnic basket. Definitely worth a visit

Amazing vibes and amazing food for the price. Really beautiful piece of nature and just so calm and inviting. The breakfast options are quite nice. Nothing Vegan or Vegetarian 🌱 it seems, but overall still really good options 🍱 Lovely atmosphere and some nice artworks hanging up all around. Just a sweet place to hang out 😊

What a hidden gem. The wood carving is the best among so many different artists. The cafe is also very impressive, the chai latte is very smooth

If the weather is great, it's beautiful under the trees in the garden.

This restaurant is true to its name as you feel like you are dining at a cottage in a big garden. There is an inside seating area (but it can get a bit cramped) as well as a outside area where you can relax under the beautiful trees. We visited them for breakfast and decided to sit outside as it was so beautiful, and although it was a bit chilly they did have blankets to keep us warm. The coffee and food was very tasty and beautifully presented, and our waiters were courteous and friendly. On the property there are other businesses as well including a curio shop and nursery where you can browse before or after going to the restaurant. They would also be a good choice during summer as the trees will provide shade to keep you nice and cool.

Most unfriendly , unwelcoming place I have ever been to. Felt like I was intruding on someone's private property and slowest service I have ever experienced. Literally left before ordering anything and no one seemed to notice or even care. Disappointing.

What an absolute little gem in the heart of Newlands. Firstly the food and freshly baked goods. Incredible, and vegetarians can expect to eat as good as (or better than) meat eaters. Then, the setting. Beautifully lush gardens and a nursery on the grounds. Lastly, amazingly friendly service that makes you feel comfortable and welcomed. Thank you for setting the standard guys!
