Love this place, so versatile but on this day we went for dinner and drinks. The food overall was not so good, the octopus tail was burnt and seasoneless but the chicken and chips was great. The halloumi and apricots paired really well The signature cocktails were the star of the evening, really enjoy the Diamond Ring

We had a nice dinner at the restaurant on the ground floor. Then we went to the second floor to add a drink on the bar. The dj and music were solid... Nice atmosphere and energy.

This restaurant & club is probably one of the best places to have an excellent dinner and drink. Very busy always specially after dinner time when the night club gets very busy. Good people and good music. About the restaurant, we had an excellent dinner. Food was delicious, price very reasonable and we got a super excellent service by our waitress Ms Belinda, she was very kind and made us feel very happy during our dinner. Also we took a photo with the excellent chef. Definetly, a good place with amazing people. We definetly will come back next time we visit Cape Town!

Great restaurant, good food and wine. We had 3 tapas to share plus a (super tasty) bread basket and olives. The food was spiced to perfection. Will definitely recommend it to friends, thanks to the friendly staff for a great service too. At around 10pm one can leave the restaurant area and join either the upstairs- or downstairs bars.

A wonderful combination of speakeasy and vintage athletic style. The decor inside is authentic, and there are various discrete tables to sit at upstairs. The cocktails are delicious with a variety of classics as well as house specials. The service however needs a bit of work, with our waiter trying to usher us out by bringing us the bill and card machine despite there being full cocktails on our table, about 30 minutes to closing time and several other patrons still seated. The day was somewhat saved by the head bartender upstairs, Alex who brought the evening back up to the standard you would expect.

The New Year’s Eve was a disaster!! With a price of 2000 rand per person for food and 1 champagne glass the expectations were accordingly. But the food was not eatable. Some courses were either just meat or just fish without any sides. In the end we were all sick and couldn’t eat any dessert. Furthermore we got a table outside (only 2 tables were outside) where we had loud car noises and bad smell. Needless to say there was no New Year’s Eve ambiance. Although we asked several times for a table upstairs later on to finally be able to celebrate properly, neither the waitress nor the manager tried to fulfill this wish. We actually never saw the manager again after communicating our displeasure. Really poor guest treating policy!! In the end we didn’t even get our included champagne glass and we left 10 minutes after midnight. Never again and we will not recommend this place to friends & family.

Twice now we have had drinks here and were disappointed. The ambience is nice and we were lucky to get a spot on the balcony the second time. The staff are not very friendly and come across as arrogant. They were more interested in chatting amongst themselves than serving us. Two of the cocktails my husband wanted to order could not be made as something was out of stock. In a bar???? We will not return.

If I could give 10 stars, I would. I held my 30th birthday party in the Trophy Room downstairs, and wow, I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Firstly, Patience is such a gem and made the booking and organizing process a dream. She was thoughtful and diligent. We had canapes, followed by bowls. All served fresh and hot and my guests couldn’t stop talking about how good it was. The service of the waiters and the barmen was impeccable. They made sure all guests were served and happy from the beginning till the end. The barmen also checked in om my bill throughout the night to make sure I’m still happy with my total spend. I would highly recommend them for any party or event!

We attended an excellent jazz show in the intimate Trophy Room. Good food. Nice crowd. Full house so book ahead.

This was my first dinner stop in Cape Town and it definitely set the bar! I enjoyed the cauliflower dish, grilled line fish (which was sea bass at the time) atop lentils, broccolini (sans romanesco sauce and labneh) and asked for a side of roasted sweet potatoes. Everything was really good! I liked the broccolini so much that I ordered another portion to take to go. The service was very friendly and accommodating. It doesn’t look like much from the outside, but it sure was a lovely dinner!

Stunning traditional architecture and beautifully decorated interiors. We had some drinks on the terrace and it was really great experience. Superb cocktails! When we visited it was quiet and relaxed but I passed by at the weekend and it was heaving. Suggest aiming for midweek if you want to avoid the crowds.

Went there for drinks and was pleasantly surprised. Loved the vibey, moody interior. They have an excellent selection of really well made cocktails and the service was very attentive without being intrusive. The food we saw also looked fantastic. Definitely going on my recommended list!

They don't put salt and pepper out for a reason. Food is prepared to perfection. Staff are amazing and friendly. A beautiful range of vegetarian options as well. And of course a whole variety of spaces to lounge in and catchup with close friends, including a basement vinyl lounge and bar. Definitely on my top to-eat at list.

Stopped in for dinner on the early side. They offer outdoor seating on the sidewalk or on the upstairs balcony. The cocktails were tasty, the beer was cold and the service was friendly. I was excited to see they offered octopus on the menu, but was less excited to order it after finding out it was frozen. So I ordered the fresh line fish (Sea Bass) for my main. The fish was a bit over cooked, but the bed of lentils it was sitting atop, was delicious. My partner ordered the Lamb shank which was also quite tasty. The only down side to the night was the extremely loud road noise, the lack of proper dinner serviettes and having to ask our waiter to remove empty appetizer plates, glassware and the menu from our small table.

Absolutely delicious food. We had many of the vegan options on the menu and the dishes were perfection. It's so beautiful inside and we received great service. I highly recommend this spot for a nice and more upmarket dinner or drinks with friends or a business dinner.

Atmospheric interior which makes for a fun time but the prices are outrageous. All the drinks and eats are tasty but I feel like the markup is actually off-putting. Last time I went for a friend's birthday party, we came to the conclusion that we probably would have bought more drinks throughout the night if a single drink wasn't so expensive. We left having enjoyed the space but really questioning if it was worth it.

The people who always come out to support and watch my shows have always had an amazing experience at this establishment. Even the atmosphere is chilled and has a vibe, with the DJ playing versatile music. We enjoy this experience together. I always have a full house, I give thanks to all those people who have always showed up. The food and service is always up to standard. The Social Club is the place to be.

We had the most DISGUSTING experience at this establishment. We usually come for Jazz nights which we enjoy. We were excited for the Hugh Masekela tribute. To our astonishment, with tickets and all, having spent our money arriving as early as 6:30pm to get a nice table, the event was reserved for white people only. We tried to explain how early we arrived and showed the owner/manger but his only intention was to let his people in first. He then "offered" an "exception" to let us down when it was already so full. We wasted our money and entire night to a RACIST establishment. To justify his behaviour, he called his black friend to tell us that they're not racist and offered us a drink as an apology. ARE YOU SERIOUS??? A drink??? The bouncers tried to manhandle my friend's partner, which was very scary and rattled us all cause you could clearly see that he couldn't have harmed anyone. So pathetic to have such an experience in 2023. All that was missing at the event was a "WHITES ONLY" sign. So pathetic and disgusting. To even think a silly drink would make up for what the owner did - you must think we're real idiots. We honestly just want the money we spent back. He went on and made excuses to say people were pushing. There was literally no one pushing, we were in a queue like sheep and they just let all the white people through while we stood there. Nothing justifies what he did. Should've just made it a private thing for him and his friends. After supporting them all these years, we were livid. He keeps mentioning his black successful friends, the "oh I'm not racist I have black friends" line. Not in 2023 guys, there's no way you are treating people of colour this way. i am actually very triggered by this.

After a week of disappointing service in Cape Town it was so nice to finish our holiday at The Athletic and Social Club. Service was attentive but not over bearing and the food is something I will wax lyrical about for weeks to come. I can't recommend enough. Also if you're vegetarian as I am and visiting then visit here their menu is varied and delicious. Thanks so a great evening.

Lol be sure you put in Athletic club and not just social bar... you'll end up in a very different place. Great setting, brilliant crowd of people. Never had a down night at this spot. Downstairs you're welcomed by the fantastic smell of good food that would make even your full "after Christmas lunch" tummy hungry again.

Amazing, we had dinner here recently and what an amazing place. One suggestion I'll give you now, is make a booking. We waited for a while at the bar upstairs, had great cocktails and bubbly, and finally were seated on the ground floor. The food was really great, service was spot on. The owner came over to chat us up about the history and concept of the venue. We ended up downstairs for the live jazz which was a perfect end to the evening. I'd definitely recommend coming here, and we'll be back as soon as we're in CPT again.

So glad I finally got the chance to come here. Great location, very central. Loved the chilled music and the cocktails were delicious! The service was very friendly, although I think it might be understaffed due to our order being wrong twice. Love the vibe here, very classy, but nothing over the top or too pretentious. Will definitely be coming back!

We adore this place! It’s such a vibe! There’s beautiful decor and ambiance! The drinks are great and super affordable. We took beautiful photos while we were here. There are three floors and all of them are beautiful. We highly recommend checking it out! We are traveling the world and are currently in Cape Town!
