Beautiful walled city where you could walk around the outside wall and see the ocean on one side and the walled city on the other. It is also a great place to catch a sunset. There are vendors all around selling water and beer. Make sure you wear your favorite walking shoes, as you will be walking up and down some elevated trails.

The hole holiday to this place has been a disappointment. Dirty and people will screw you as quick as they can. Not a place I would ever recommend to anyone.

The entrance is free, there is much space to walk around and enjoy the view from the place, see the buildings in the city, the sea. There are restaurants, bars in that zone where you can have a beer or you can get anything to eat. The place looked clean to me, people in there really take care of the antique walls.

A nice place for tourists to visit and watch the sun set over the ocean. The entire wall isn't lit everywhere so it can get really dark at some places and there is no railing so there is some danger falling down a few meters unless you are careful. There are a lot of shops and bars all along the old city, some are very famous and popular and have been visited by several famous people with proof of their picture taken at a certain place. There are quite a lot of people walking the walls so expect most places to be crowded.

It's free, it's nice for sunset time. But you won't see much actually, the view is limited but is great if you have a drone.

I love, love, love walking through old cities, especially forts. These walls transport and help your imagination run, thinking of the amount of work it took, creativity and effectiveness of it all. It seems like these walls run forever. It's great to walk the route, especially as the sun is setting. There are a lot of cool spots to watch the sun set, some quiet and some more festive but beautiful nonetheless. You'll have people trying to sell you a few things, and they may also give you a quick history lesson too. Giving them a few bucks/pesos can go a long way. Having the Caribbean Sea so close to you during the day helps with keeping cool and is enchanting in the evening. Enjoy!

Beautiful and well-preserved fortification including historical weapons such as the large defensive cannons. The view of the sea invites you to linger. Strolling over the sections of the wall offers great views into the streets of the old town.

A must place to visit! Watch out for the taxi driver. Always confirm price. Best to use taxi drivers that are part of "cooperativa " or use uber. As far as security, tons of security and safe area. You may find a few "quince" (sweets 15) photo shoots taking place.

Fun area to see how this all was built between 300 and 400 years ago to help in defending and the prevention of pirate attacks. Long walk if you attempt the entire go around but definitely some amazing views and an interesting history.

Awesome wall with wide walkways to amber about along the ocean. You can pick up horse drawn carriages along the way. Lots of friendly hawkers willing to share a part of the history. Two bars along the way.

Walled city is amazing and rich with history. Amazing views of the ocean and you can walk around on the walls. The architecture of the buildings and the street are amazing. Lots of shops and restaurants and just take in the views. Well worth the visit and explore.

Advertised as a fort but more realistic as a concrete embankment. Extremely difficult to ascend. No handicapped accessibility (it's in a foreign country), and very little to see except for exceptional view of Cartagena upon summiting the structure. Wear good climbing shoes with gripping soles.

Wall run across most of the main Cartagena, you can walk over wall to get different views within city. Lot of street hawkers will entertain you for no reasons :) Well maintained and spacious structure

This is an absolute must if you are visiting Cartagena, the rich Spanish and African history adds to architecture. You will enjoy every step and the nightly cityscape gives the old a modern view not only that your surrounded by the ocean on side. If your a picture enthusiasts you will get amazing shots. You get to experience the past and present Walled City.

Visited during a party bus tour during a cruise excursion. We had a great tour guide. We loved the experience and learning about the history of Cartagena

Fantástico! The best! Must go! If you are planning on visiting keep in mind it’s all outdoors! Music, food, sunsets, people, families, couples, weddings, singles, etc it’s literally something for everyone! Don’t miss out on the performances in front of the clock tower and enjoy walking along the outskirts of the majestic wall! I arrived about 5pm and took a horse carriage ride around the town and made reservations at Del Mar to conclude our tour. We didn’t eat just enjoyed the sunset and music. The place was packed!! People sit along the wall with drinks and enjoy the moments and create lots of beautiful memories!! I wish I’ve spent more time here! Very romantic and authentic traditional style, cuisines and architecture!! Very exquisite!

So much history in on place. Awesome to wander around and get lost in this caribbean city. With the architecture and vendors its a non stop adventure. Seriously recommended for citizens of the world. Try exploring for yourself one day for a real world excursion and then book a tour with an experienced funded on another to learn about this incredible area and its past.

Definitely, a must when visiting Cartagena. Great choice for history lovers. Annoying people trying to sell stuff but that's a common problem in this city (everywhere).

  • 3/5 Richard 2 years ago on Google
Unfortunately I didn't get to walk along the walls, but I did see people walking a top sections of the walls where there is public access. I would love to come back to the old walled city of Cartagena and just walk around, everyone is very friendly.

a beautiful aspect of the city experience. walk the walls, especially on a Sunday late afternoon/ early evening. there are families taking in the views, lovers laying in the wall openings looking out to sea. you could people watch for hours and never get bored.

  • 4/5 Matt L. 2 years ago on Google
Cool to see walls that are almost completely intact - kinda rare! Only downside is once you seen one stretch - it all looks the same (obv!)

Great place to visit, day time shopping with pleany of brand names and generic retail stores. Night time the place trasforms into bars, clubs and pleanty of restaurants to choose from. Uou have to deal with hustlers trying to take you to their place of reference for a compensation. Whatever your preference in a girl, face, color, hight, size, or any desirable bady part, is definitely there for you to take home. Some of them will smile from distance and wave hi, other are more aggressive.

We spent a week in Cartagena several years ago (4 days too many) and recently returned on a cruise ship. The place is still beautiful with the old architecture but way too many "hustlers and hawkers" annoying tourists with endless sales pitches. Also at the slightest rain the old town streets flood and the stench of sewage is strong. Evidentally the town council doesnt read google reviews /s ...

Walking through the beautiful walled city is always a good idea. Just make sure you bring enough sun protection and you stay away from the tourist scammers disguised as sellers and tour guides. Free tour guides are available if you are interested in the history of the city, I personally booked with BeyondColombia and it was a delight in Bogota as well as in Cartagena.

A great walk around the historic walled city of Cartagena. It is advertised as 11 km, but it is actually much closer to 3 miles. It is not a continuous walk and you must often disembark the wall to cross the street only to then have to climb stairs or a ramp to rejoin the wall. Definitely worth visiting.

  • 5/5 Joquetta D P. 1 year ago on Google
Very well preserved and maintained. You can sit, enjoy the breeze and watch the waves in the Caribbean Sea.

  • 4/5 Ilo J. 1 year ago on Google
The walls are just walls, nothing special. Cartagena was a bit to hot for my liking. Interesting city but I would not go back, people like different things, I've seen better cities. There were no WOW factors in this city if I am honest. 1 day is definitely enough, not much to do unless someone is parting at night. The art street was cool.
