All the "doctoring" I dumped on could not fix this. Totally dried out beans cheese chips. I love giving reviews and usually give stellar ones. I'm sorry to say this is the worst plate of food I've ever had in my life at a restaurant. I am leaving hungry.... for me, the Mexican food maniac .... that's saying something. 🤢 I will say Jim's breakfast was good and the waitress was nice.

Experiencing somewhere new? Sometimes the menu is big and overwhelming so I rely on expert opinions...I ask a waitress. If they stumble or say they don't eat there when I ask what are the two best items on the menu, I probably won't be back. Now, there is an exemption if they are vegan, low carb or have other dietary restrictions. I mention this because we were driving in Copperas Cove and decided to find some food. Something drew us to Lil-Tex despite setting the GPS for somewhere else. It is a classic small town diner with a lot of seating. One of the items the waitress recommended was their chicken fried steak and also ordered their Charlie Boy burger. The burger was perfect and I wish I could show you more of the bacon on it before digging in. The chicken fried steak had crunchy breading, smooth gravy and great flavor. Fries and tots were good as well. The photo of the drink is to show you that it is so big that the straw will not fit... and I wouldn't complain as who would want them to shrink the cup, right? Also, loved the key lime pie. Update: Came back for dinner and brought family with us. Had a great meal as we went back to the chicken fried steak but also tried the meatloaf and a (not pictured) French dip. Everything tasted amazing. Service had a few bumps as orders were a little slow coming out but that is the only thing I can criticize.

This was a nice find. Great little hometown restaurant with a laid back mom and pop feel. The waitress were running like I've never seen. They were all over the place making sure everyone was taken care of and getting what they ordered. The food came out fast considering how busy they were. Had the 2 eggs scrambled, bacon, grits, home fries, and toast. Everything was yummy but the home fries weren't my favorite. Over all this is a wonderful little places that makes you feel like family. We'll definitely be back soon.

Perfectly cooked eggs and waffle. The service was incredible. Old fashioned, small town feel. Home cooking.

Good place to grab some good diner food. I loved the prices and our service was good. Everything was pretty good, not the best but I will definitely be returning. This place stays packed and has plenty of seating. The restaurant is clean but the bathrooms weren’t, other than that it was a great trip and I will be returning.

I always have a good meal at Lil Tex. We reserved the room to the left of the main dining area, as we had a gathering of 21 people after my husband's funeral. . The waitress was attentive , and friendly. She even brought coloring books, and crayons for the younger children in our group. To keep them occupied until the food came. (I wish all restaurants did that.) I had their Club Sandwich, with Onion Rings. The sandwich and onion rings were very good, the portion size was large. But I was still able to finish it... Lol. (One of my sons, on the other hand, ordered the Nachos. He couldn't even make a dent in it, lol. Uber large, and delicious) Had no problems with our meals. Our waitress kept our drinks full, and checked on us regularly. Because the owner knew my husband, they payed for our meals. So very kind of them. They also put a message on their sign outside: 'Rest In Peace James Wylie'. I really appreciate it. A Texas sized thank you from all of us.

Very nice, very busy place. Service was great! Good variety of things to choose from on the menu, trying to be all things to all people. And very good prices considering today's economy. Finally tried the hand breaded chicken fried steak with high expectations, but it simply doesn't make the cut. I found it to be unflavorful and the breading was pitiful for an extra charge item. I've tried a few of the menu items, and everything else is real treat! It's definitely worth checking this place out. Highly recommended!

We've been back many times. The food is good, and the service is great; they work very hard. The employees are so nice. So far, we've tried the chef salad, the chicken-fried chicken, chicken-fried steak, baked chicken, shepard's pie, mashed potatoes, mac-n-cheese, baked potato, french fries, tots, french toast, veggie omelet, hashbrowns, the Malibu sandwich and tried different cobblers. It was all good. Unfortunately, the booth seats are completely worn out... they should either repair and recover them or just replace them with chairs. I enjoyed the food and service and will go back.

Today I ordered nachos for the first and last time at Lil-Tex. They piled the plate high with chips that where not fresh and the cheese!!! The cheese they used for the nachos was a culinary murder, death-kill!! You do not use regular, plain cheddar which will coagulate the moment it cools off. This salad didn't taste good at all. I had to send it back. Oooh and the guacamole for the nachos was not made fresh.. Check out the pics!! My friends ordered the BLT with fries and they enjoyed it down to the last of the fries! The wait staff however, as always where so friendly and warm. If you need a moment to forget about all of the harsh realities we deal with; step inside Lil-Tex because the atmosphere here is so comfortable and good that for that short time, all you will think about are the pancakes, catfish, sweet tea or what ever you are having. You will laugh, relax and enjoy yourself..

Nice place for big groups. Service is great. Good breakfast lunch and dinner. Tina was our server and she was awesome. Now we have experienced dinner. A Swiss Cheese burger with an over easy egg. Chicken fried steak with mash potatoes

This is me and my wifes go to place for breakfast, lunch or dinner. We frequent this establishment 2-3 times a week. This place has a great atmosphere, the customer service is excellent, and they charge a fair price for meals. You get good sized portions, and the food is always fresh and hot.

I've lived in Texas since 97' and have lived in Copperas Cove since 2012'. I've lost count of the times I've driven by this place and didn't give a thought to trying it. My wife ate breakfast there with her good friend and was impressed. She naturally told me and I decided to give it a try. I've eaten there twice and have gotten pleasantly STUFFED. The staff was wonderful and the food was amazing. You can call me crazy, but their prices and food put a lot of restaurants to shame. Both times that we ate there, I was shocked at what the check was. Especially with all of this crazy inflation going on. Then it dawned on me, a lot of their customers are senior citizens on fixed incomes. I highly recommend this place and also recommend leaving generous tip for their waitresses. You'll fully understand why I say this after your first visit. Warren Honor III Copperas Cove Texas.

The first time in there went in with my husband and baby. The restaurant was busy but far from full. I always tell my spouse the best places are always busy. We went in after Bible study and services. We walked in, sat down, and waited a solid 30 minutes. One of the servers said, "Hi," with a big smile and kept walking. A couple that had sat down minutes after us got their drinks before we were asked...well, we were never asked at all. No one came by to give us menus, I went to the front to go ask. The server passed us 4 times before we decided, I don't think they like our type here. I was a bit baffled. We're the type of people who find a spot and frequent it weekly. Being that it is so close to our house, we've been looking for a place we can call out kitchen away from our own. I'm always a generous tipper. It was our first and last time going. We have found our "spot. It's El Corral right down the street. great service and food selection. They have country dishes as well as traditional and Tex-Mex offerings.

Friendly service, excellent home cooked food. So much better than the mainstream restaurants that are in every city. If you’re in cove and it’s time to eat. You must go here and try the food.

Great home cooking. Huge menu, big portions. That’s the Charlie Boy burger. It’s huge! Only the hungry can finish the burgers and fries off, it’s almost 4” tall!! That’s a looming tornado forming in the background to the north. Touched down in Gatesville.

Stopped in Sunday for breakfast with my family before heading to the airport. It has that small town mom and pop vibe. Our waitress was Caroline she was great . I ordered two scrambled eggs with chicken fried steak , hash browns and toast with a side of grits. All that food for 12$ what a deal . I really enjoyed the meal, the homemade hand breaded chicken fried steak was delicious . I would definitely recommend eating here

Flies everywhere, inside and out. Dead animal at the front door when we walked in. Took about 40 min to get us 6 all our food and the waitress was kind but even she told us it was going to be a long wait. The place wasn't even fully packed, tables were still available. probably just short staffed. Food was mediocre at best. Stake skillet had like 4 little strips of cut up steak, not what I was expecting. Biscuits were dry. Water tastes like well water and ice had a weird color tint to it. Kind people is the only reason I gave 2 stars. They had no one at checkout and after waiting 5 min 6 people were waiting behind us. Someone finally came up and she wiped the sweat off her face and took my card lol and handed it back nice and juicy ugh. Would not return

We were helping my sister in law move and stopped in to grab a bite to eat. Pleasantly surprised! Our waitress rocked, the food was really good down home cooking.,I had the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and a side salad and chocolate pudding with whipped cream for dessert. The food could have been a little hotter but it was still good. One of the cool things is that being close to an army base, there were several veterans and we expressed our appreciation for their services. If we are in the area again, I would love to go back.

Had their lunch special, chicken fried steak. Yum. The meal was delicious. It came with the entree, choice of 2 sides, bread choice ( try the corn bread) and dessert (peach cobbler, delicious!). All of that for a reasonable price.

Great food and service. Don't feel like you're limited by the menu. The excellent wait staff are more than helpful in creating a custom meal experience.
