Great Tourists Spot in Old Dhaka. Loved the place. I really learn a lot from their. Furthermore I want to visit there again. Highly Recommended for local and Foreign Tourists. I would like to request our government to make it more sustainable and make some magazine about the history of Ahsan Manzil. We have a lot of historical product which we can sell to foreigners easily, but lake of good management and lake of planning we can't do it. I wish out government will take some step about the issue.

Great place to chill with family. But the interior and the artifacts are not displayed in a proper way, definitely need some cleaning and the lighting should be improved. In weekends there's so much crowd. A person can buy 5 tickets. So if you are planning to go there with family then you should consider standing in the queue without them. Let them stand near the gate.

Ahsan Manzil is located on the banks of the river Buriganga in the Kumartuli area of Islampur in Old Dhaka. It was formerly the residential palace of the Nawabs of Dhaka and the Sadar Kachari of the zamindari. Construction of the Ahsan Manzil began in 1859 and was completed in 182. It is now used as a museum. Ahsan Manzil has been renovated several times. This historic site is currently closed due to the Corona epidemic... If everything goes well, it would be nice to be able to turn around the pattern of history.. This is a really beautiful place..

This is one of the most famous historical place in dhaka city. The architectural design of the buildings are mind blowing. Inside the building, they have a vast collection of Nawab's daily necessary utilities and all of them are nicely stored for the decades after decades. This place resembles the vision and luxurious life of the ancient Nawab family in dhaka where you can easily connect with the history and legacy of this city. Awesome place. Another exciting part is that they have introduced e-ticketing which is praiseworthy.

Amazing pink museum or palace. Entrance fee is 500 taka for foreigners. Nice gardens, nice architecture, long stairs and many floors. A history of people who lived there, many photos, poets, dining halls and many others. The road to the entrance was under construction, so had to walk a little bit in a very narrow and crowded area.

Ahsan Manzil is one of the most significant architectural monuments of Bangladesh. The building structure was established on a raised platform of 1 meter, the two-storied palace measures 125.4m by 28.75m. The height of the ground floor is 5 meters and the height of the first floor is 5.8 meters. The thickness of the walls of the palace is about 0.78 meters. There are porticos of 5 meters height on the northern and southern sides of the palace. The building has a broad front-facing the Buriganga River. On the river side, an open spacious stairway leads right up to the second portal and on their stands the grand triple- arched portals. There was once a fountain in the garden in front of the stairs which does not exist today. All along the north and the south side of the building run spacious verandahs with an open terrace projected in the middle. The palace Ahsan Manzil is divided into two parts: the eastern side and the western side. The eastern building with the dome is called the Rangmahal and the western side with the living rooms is called Andarmahal. The high octagonal dome is placed on the central round room. There is a large drawing room, card room, library, state room and two other guest rooms are located on the east side of the palace. The ballroom, the Hindustani room and few residential rooms are situated on the western side. A beautiful vaulted artificial ceiling, made of wood, decorates the drawing room and the Jalsaghar. A splendid dining hall and few smaller rooms are placed on the west part. The floors of the dining and Darbar Halls are decorated with white, green and yellow colored ceramic tiles. The famous store room, where the valuables of the Nawabs used to be stored, was in the middle of the five rooms located in the western half of the ground floor. Along with those rooms a Darbar Hall or assembly hall and a chest room is also place there.

This historical site in Old Dhaka is a popular destination for tourists, offering a window into rich local traditions and culture. It can take hours to fully explore the expansive museum. However, the ticket purchasing process is cumbersome, requiring online registration which can be inconvenient. The location is beautifully surrounded, making it a delightful spot for outings with family and friends. It can also serve as an ideal picnic location. Despite the ticketing issue, the overall experience is enjoyable and I highly recommend a visit.

This is a historic palace used during the Bangladeshi Liberation War and serves as a significant symbol of our struggle for independence. Originally, this palace was built during the time of the Nawab rulers, and later it served as offices for various Pakistani government institutions and organizations. During the Liberation War, Ahsan Manzil held great importance as a symbol of the honor and dignity of the Bangladeshi freedom fighters. Now, it functions as a museum where exhibitions related to various aspects of the Liberation War and the life stories of freedom fighters are displayed.

Ahsan Manjil is located at Kumartuli, Dhaka South city Corporation, Dhaka. I have a chance to visit it along with my wife on 03 February 2024 at about 1415 hours. Before today I had visited it so many times. It is the former residence and seat of the Nawab of Dhaka. In the Mughal Empire, Sheikh Enayet ullah, Zamindar of the Jamalpur, Porgona district had a garden house on this property and added a palace which he called Rangmahal. After his death his son Sheikh Moti ullah was sold to French Traders. They erected a trading house beside the property. In the year of 1835 Nawba Abdul Ghani's father Khwaja Alimullah purchased the property from the French traders. He had renovated it and started living there as a “Nawab” house. In the year of 1872 Nawab Khwaja Abdul Ghani also renovated it and named the property as “Ahsan Manzil” for his son Khwaja Ahsan Ullah. He also continued renovations; the old building was renamed Ondor Mohol and the new building was called Rangmahal. The Government of Bangladesh acquired the palace and property in 1985 and also renovated it. Renovations were completed in the year of 1992 and ownership was transferred to the Bangladesh National Museum. Now it is an old Dhaka heritage site of Bangladesh. It is always busy with national visitors and foreign tourists. It is open at 10:30 am and closed at 0530pm regularly. Thursday is a weekly holiday. Entrance fee adult Tk40/, Child Tk20/ for hoste, SARAC Tk300/ and foreign Tk 500/ each only. There is♿wheelchair accessible entrance,♿ wheelchair accessible car park  and ♿ wheelchair accessible toilets facilities. Ref:wikipedia.

Ahsann Manzil is located next to Sadar Ghat on the banks of Buriganga River in Old Dhaka, an ancient heritage of Bangladesh. It is currently used as a museum, with a large number of visitors visiting it every day. Entry fee is Tk 40 for Bangladeshis (Tk 20 for children 3-12 years), Tk 300 for citizens of SAARC countries, Tk 500 for other citizens. If you bring your own car here, you will be in trouble, there is no parking system. It is best not to visit here on holidays, there are so many people that you will think it is a busy shopping mall.

The witnesses of various periods were in the state of being lost due to Shri lost fragmentation of this building. The government has reformed itself and made it a spectacular place by unloading it. Later, its furnishings and equipment were retrieved, from the original descendants of some original owners, they were being stored as a collective collector in the building. Ahsan Manzil was the official residential palace and seat of the Nawab of Dhaka. The building is situated at Kumartoli along the banks of the Buriganga River in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Construction was started in 1859 and was completed in 1872. It was constructed in the Indo-Saracenic Revival architecture. It has been designated as a national museum. In Mughal era, there was a garden house of Sheikh Enayet Ullah, the landlord of Jamalpur Porgona (district), in this place. Sheikh Enayet Ullah was a very charming person. He acquired a very big area in Kumortuli (Kumartuli) and included it in his garden house. Here he built a beautiful palace and named it "Rongmohol" (Rangmahal). He used to enjoy here keeping beautiful girls collected from the country and abroad, dressing them with gorgeous dresses and expensive ornaments. There is a saying that, the foujdar of Dhaka (representative of mughal emperor) was attracted to one of the beautiful girls. He invited Sheikh Enayet Ullah to a party one night and killed him in a conspiracy when he was returning home. That girl also committed suicide in anger and sorrow. There was a grave of Sheikh Enayet Ullah in the north-east corner of the palace yard which was ruined in the beginning of the 20th century. Probably in the period of Nawab Alibardi Khan around 1740 century, Sheikh Moti Ullah, the son of Sheikh Enayet Ullah, sold the property to the French traders. There was a French trading house beside this property. The trading house became wealthier after purchasing this property. In that time, French traders could do business here without paying any taxes by a decree from the emperor Aurangzeb. In that time, the French became very wealthy by doing business here in competition with the English and other European companies. They made a big palace and dug a pond for sweet water in the newly purchased property. The pond still exists in the compound of Ahsan Manzil which was called "Les Jalla" in that time. In the English-French war, French got defeated and all their properties were captured by the English. On 22 June 1757, the French left the trading house with a fleet of 35 boats from the river station of Buriganga in front of Kumartuli. In 1785, the French transferred the property to a French tradesman named Mr. Champigni, and retaken it at 1801. According to Paris agreement of 1814, the French claimed all their left properties at Dhaka, and in 1827 the property was again returned to the French. For the increasing power of the English, the French was forced to leave subcontinent. They decided to sell all their properties in Dhaka. So in 1830, the trading house of Kumartuli was purchased by the established landlord of Dhaka, Khwaja Alimullah. After some renovation work, the trading house became the residence of Khwaja Alimullah. In his time, a stable and a family mosque was added in the compound. After his death, his son Khwaja Abdul Ghani made a great flourish to the property, and named it "Ahsan Manzil" after his son Khwaja Ahsanullah. In the evening of 7 April 1888, a devastating tornado hit Dhaka city causing great damage. Ahsan Manzil was severely damaged and abandoned. An English engineer from Kolkata arrived here to examine the palace. He gave opinion that except for the "Rangmahal", all the other parts of the palace would have to be reconstructed. So Khwaja Abdul Ghani and his son Khwaja Ahsanullah turned their full attention to rebuild the palace. After the death of Khwaja Ahsanullah in 1901, the glory of Ahsan Manzil was ended. His successors could not continue the glory because of the internal family quarrel. They rented different parts of the palace to tenants, who actually made it a slum. In 1952, govt. acquired the property and left in supervision of the Dhaka Nawab court. In 1985, Dhaka National Museum acquired the property and made it a museum following a massive restoration programme which utilised historic photographs of the property.

Ahsan Manzil is considered to be one of the most noteworthy architectural monuments in Bangladesh. This magnificent building is situated on the banks of the Buriganga River that flows beside Dhaka, the capital city of Bangladesh. Ahsan Manzil was previously the official palace of the Dhaka Nawab family and is currently a museum preserving the culture and history of the area. Today visitors to Bangladesh have the opportunity to see the beautifully restored and preserved Ahsan Manzil in all its grandeur while they reflect on the activities that took place there in the past that were instrumental in shaping nations!

Ahsan Manzil is the palace of Dhaka Nawab Family. This magnificent building is situated at old Dhaka at the bank of the Buriganga River. It is one of the most significant architectural monuments of Bangladesh. This palace decorates with big wooden bed, big dinning table, all ancient decor, belongings, weapons, armors, utilities etc. used by the Nawabs. During holidays the palace remain crowded inside and out. The palace is extraordinary with its pink colour but there is lack of proper maintenance & cleanliness of the objects projected. One who is interested in history must have essence from the scenic beauty of the palace. And definitely worth seeing to break away from the crowds. This building is the witness of many history. There is a small museum over there. One can spend some significant time to explore history.

    - Has historic significance (It is an old heritage site of Dhaka and it was the residence of Nawab) - It is a museum about the Nawabs (you can find paintings, pictures, belongings, rooms of the palace with furniture, and vice versa) - 40 taka visit for 12-13+ aged people. 20 taka visit for under 12-13 aged people. 500 taka visit for tourists and foreigners - If you like old archaeological vibes, you can visit here (But avoid hot and humid days) - There's a small cafe under the stairs where you can find snacks and soft drinks

Ahsan Manzil is a palace located in the Kumartoli area of Dhaka, Bangladesh. It was formerly the residence and seat of the Nawab of Dhaka and has been designated an Old Dhaka Heritage Site. It now serves as a museum. It was opened in the 19th century and many artifacts from that era still could be seen here. Just don't take photos, it's not legal. Loved it

Nice museum. From the outside it appears to be bigger and better maintained than it really is. When the ticket shop at the right to the front gate opened, people were really pushy to buy their ticket. Mind the opening hours before you plan your visit and make sure you are near the ticket desk at opening time. Otherwise you better wait until most of the people have obtained their ticket. Worth the visit

This is one of the most well known verifiable spot in dhaka city. The structural plan of the structures are inspiring. Inside the structure, they have a huge assortment of Nawab's everyday fundamental utilities and every one of them are well put away for the a large number of many years. This spot looks like the vision and lavish existence of the antiquated Nawab family in dhaka where you can undoubtedly associate with the set of experiences and tradition of this city. Wonderful spot. Another interesting part is that they have presented e-tagging which is laudable. If you Wanna to visit there you need to buy ticket online, there is no physical ticket system on gate now. For buying ticket you need to go ahsan manzil website & buy ticket with simple registration, then you pay the ticket fee by Mobile Banking (Bkash, Rocket, Nagad, M-Cash, MY Cash, AB, tap, Ok wallet.) & Card. Adults- 20 tk per person. Child - 10 tk per person Foreigner - 500 tk per person

Ahsan Manzil Museum is a beautiful historical palace located in the heart of the city of Dhaka. It was once the official residence of the Nawab family of Dhaka and is now a popular tourist destination. One of the most impressive aspects of the museum is the architecture, which is a perfect example of the Indo-Saracenic Revival architecture. The museum houses a collection of artifacts, including portraits, furniture, and other items from the Nawabs of Dhaka's collection. The museum also offers guided tours that provide visitors with a detailed history of the palace and its significance to Bangladesh's history. It is well-maintained exhibits and friendly staff. The palace grounds are also very well landscaped and provide a peaceful environment for visitors to relax in. Overall, the Ahsan Manzil Museum is a must-visit destination in Dhaka for anyone interested in history, architecture, and culture.

Ahsan Manzil — the residence of the Nawab family — was completed in 1872 but who knew at that time that a dome would later adorn the palace? The twist of fate came with a devastating tornado, in 1888, which destroyed much of the structure. Restoration was called for and that was when the dome was added. To paint a picture of what this majestic building looked like just after the catastrophe, a line from an eyewitness account may be apt here. In his memoir, The Reminiscences of Dacca, Hriday Nath Majumdar wrote, "We advanced then towards the 'Assan Munzil' which we saw bereft of its grand roof and all furniture lying scattered over the spacious lawn." By the way, the tornado was not the only time disaster struck the building: it was damaged again in the earthquake of 1897, but that's a story for another day!

It was formerly the residential palace of the Nawabs of Dhaka and the Sadar Kachari of the zamindari. It is currently being used as a museum. It was founded by Nawab Abdul Gani. He named it after his son Khwaja Ahsanullah. A meeting held here in 1906 decided to establish the Muslim League. Ahsan Manzil has been renovated several times. The latest reforms have been made very recently. It is now a museum run by the Bangladesh National Museum. In the middle of the eighteenth century, Sheikh Inayetullah Ahsan, the zamindar of Jamalpur [2] Pargana, built a recreation building called Rangmahal on the present site of the manzil. Later, his son Sheikh Matiullah sold the Rangmahal to French merchants. It has long been known as a trading post. Then in 1830 Khwaja Alimullah, the father of Nawab Abdul Ghani, who lived in Begum Bazar, bought it and started living there. At the center of this residence was a master plan drawn up by Khwaja Abdul Gani Martin & Company, a European construction and engineering company, whose main building was Ahsan Manzil. Nawab Abdul Gani started the construction of the palace in 1859 and completed it in 182. He named it 'Ahsan Manzil' after his beloved son Khwaja Ahsanullah. At that time the newly built palace building was known as Rangmahal and the old building was known as Andarmahal. The whole of Ahsan Manzil was severely damaged by a strong earthquake on 6 April 18. The existing high dome was added during the reconstruction of the damaged Ahsan Manzil. High quality bricks were brought from Raniganj for reconstruction and repair. Engineer Govinda Chandra Roy conducted the repair work. At that time there was no such magnificent building in Dhaka city as Ahsan Manzil. The dome above its palace was one of the highest peaks in the city, attracting attention from afar. When the earthquake hit Dhaka on 12 June 1896, the Ahsan Manzil was severely damaged. The Nahabat Khana adjacent to Islampur Road along the south verandah of Ahsan Manzil completely collapsed. Later Nawab Ahsanullah rebuilt it. In 1952, the Dhaka Nawab Estate was acquired by the government under the Zamindari Eviction Act. But the residential buildings of the Nawabs, Ahsan Manzil and garden houses, remain out of acquisition. The maintenance of Ahsan Manzil became difficult due to lack of funds and the influence of the Nawab family. In the 1970s, members of the Nawab's family bought valuables at auction.

Nice historical place to visit in Dhaka. You will get to spend a nice time visiting the historical moments here. But the present online ticket booking system is pure rubbish! Few agents outside are booking all the tickets and selling at double or triple price to the visitors. This is because online ticketing allows limited number of booking, and there is no integration on the entry verification. So, there's always such chaos at the entry point. This was just another example of the work of corrupted eggheads working at the public administration level. Met one of their authorities and he couldn't provide any suggestion (not a surprise though).

Its a nice place to visit along with family. You have to book ticket online before visiting there. The big problem of this place is the crowded area around this historical museum. You should get out early from home to reach the museum on time. Another big problem is there is no specific parking space for the museum visitors. Museum security guard took 100taka as bribe to get me a parking for my car.

Ahsan M anzil … stately residential house of Nabab of Dhakaturned into a museum. Martin and co. First started building in 1853 and finished this in 1872 after long 13 years . It’sreaidentialbeautifully built … you have to take some time and enjoy this building from outside. Inside you can get a glimpse of lavish lifestyle they had. Billiard table … long dining table fully set for stately dinner.their entertainment room … they also had a separate dinner room for people who followed Hinduism.a very grand double stair high ceiling….. just gorgeous. I loved the circular iron staircase . And the long verandah with high ceiling is wonderful.standing their you can see river buriganga..now it’s polluted.in Some of the rooms you get a vibe of their rich lifestyle. Don’t miss it if you like history. I saw signboards stating no photo…. But no one follows the rule. P.S. *Don’t forget to get tickets online before going there. They don’t sell ticket on premise. **Foreigner ticket price is more . *** there is no guide available there.

Ahsan Manzil is a palace located in the Kumartoli area of Dhaka, Bangladesh. It was formerly the residence and seat of the Nawab of Dhaka and has been designated an Old Dhaka Heritage Site. It now serves as a museum. During the Mughal Empire, Sheikh Enayet Ullah, Zamindar of the Jamalpur Porgona district, had a garden house on this property and later added a palace, which he called Rongmohol. He was buried on the northeast corner of the palace yard but his gravesite was ruined at the beginning of the 20th century. His son Sheikh Moti Ullah sold the property to French traders, who erected a trading house beside the property. After changing hands a number of times over the next several centuries, the property was purchased by Khwaja Alimullah in the 1800s. Alimullah renovated the property, turning the trading house into a residence and adding a stable and family mosque. After his death, his son Khwaja Abdul Ghani named the property Ahsan Manzil after his son, Khwaja Ahsanullah. He continued renovations; the old building was renamed Ondor Mohol and the new building was called Rangmahal. On 7 April 1888, a tornado severely damaged Ahsan Manzil and it was temporarily abandoned. With the exception of Rangmahal, which only required repairs, all buildings had to be rebuilt. Abdul Ghani and Ahsanullah continued renovations. What was previously the French trading house was rebuilt as a two-storey building similar to the Rangmahal. A wooden bridge connected the first floors of the two buildings. The palace was repaired again following the 1897 Assam earthquake. After Ahsanullah's death in 1901, the property again changed hands due in part to disagreements within the family. It was a slum for a period before the government acquired it in 1952 under the East Bengal Estate Acquisition Act. It was made the formal seat of the Nawab of Dhaka but due to financial constraints, it fell to disuse. It again passed under multiple owners for the next several decades. The Government of Bangladesh acquired the palace and property in 1985 and began renovating it, taking care to preserve the remaining structure. Renovations were completed in 1992 and ownership was transferred to the Bangladesh National Museum. Part of the northern side of the property was given to the Dhaka City Corporation while half of the Andarmahal and the Nawab residential area were beyond acquisition.[clarification needed] Just under 5 acres (220,000 sq ft) was then used for the musem.

The ticket price was very cheap. 10 taka. The complete museum was to be honest very informative and it did make us feel like we were walking through history. But I think the lighting inside the museum could be better. Some of the rooms were really dark and you couldn't see things properly. Also we should be provided with sample booklets with the written info on the walls. The beauty of the whole building was exquisite and definitely worth a visit. The view of the river from the balcony is beautiful.

Dhaka’s Ahsan Manzil stands tall not only as a powerful reminder of the Nawab era but also as a symbol of Indo-Saracenic architectural excellence. It was the official residential palace of the Nawabs. The construction of this grand building was completed in the late 19th century. The two-storied palace is divided into two parts: Rangmahal and Andarmahal. The interior of the palace is beautifully ornamented with various types of vine leaves, attractive wooden stairs, and a vaulted artificial ceiling. This spectacular building has also stood witness to many historical events which include the English-French war. In 1985, Dhaka National Museum acquired the property and it was then designated as a museum. Situated in the banks of the Buriganga river, one must go to the Kumartuli area of Old Dhaka to visit this magnificent establishment. You can visit here with your friend and family member. Here ticket price only BDT. 10/- for Per Person.

In 1952, the Dhaka Nawab State was acquired under the East Bengal Estate Acquisition Act; it became impossible for the successors of the Nawabs to maintain the palace due to financial constraints. Nawab Khwaja Habibullah started living at Paribag Green House soon after the acquisition of the zamindari. The palace was soon on the verge of collapse as successors rented out rooms without considering its dignity. Over the years illegal occupants turned the place into a filthy slum. After the independence of Bangladesh, most of the nawab family went to abroad in search of a better livelihood and work. On 1974, the owners of the palace decided to put it up for auction.

(Translated by Google) Ahsan Manzil is located on the banks of the river Buriganga in the Kumartuli area of Islampur in old Dhaka. It was formerly the residential palace of the Nawabs of Dhaka and the Sadar Kachari of the zamindari. It is currently being used as a museum. It was founded by Nawab Abdul Gani. He named it after his son Khwaja Ahsanullah. A meeting held here in 1906 decided to establish a Muslim League. Ahsan Manzil has been renovated several times. The latest reforms have been made very recently. It is now a museum run by the Bangladesh National Museum. There is a beautiful dome on the roof of this palace. At one time the top of this dome was the highest in Dhaka city. It is also beautiful to see the three-arched entrance outside the main building. In the same way, the stairs to the top also attract everyone's attention. There are two beautiful arches on the east and west ends which are the most beautiful. There are two parts inside Ahsan Manzil. There is a living room and a library in the eastern part. In the western part there are dance halls and other living rooms. Downstairs there are court rooms and dining rooms. The two-storied palace building on a 1 meter high altar measures 125.4 meters and 26.75 meters. The height from floor to ceiling is 5 meters on the ground floor and 5.8 meters on the second floor. To the north and south of the palace, there is a car verandah equal to the first floor. The car on the south side descended from the two-story verandah over the verandah to the river bank through a large open staircase facing the garden. There was a fountain in the garden in front of the stairs, which is not present. On the north and south sides of both the floors of the palace there is a wide verandah with semicircular arches. The floors of the verandas and rooms are decorated with marble stones. For the construction of the dome of Ahsan Manzil, the square room on the ground floor was first filled with bricks and given a round shape. The upper bouts featured two cutaways, for easier access to the higher frets. The lower bouts featured two cutaways, for easier access to the higher frets. This octagonal room has become the barrel of the dome on the roof. Finally, the pointed dome-shaped dome is made by tilting the pointed heads of the octagons towards the center. The height of the top of the dome from the ground is 26.13 meters. (Translated by Google) Ahsan Manzil Sadar Kachari is the residential palace and zamindari of the Nawabs of Dhaka in the Kumartuli area on the banks of the river Buriganga. Currently a museum. It is said that during the Mughal period, this place was the Rangmahal of Sheikh Enayetullah, the zamindar of Jamalpur Pargana. The French later bought the Rangmahal from his son Matiullah and set up a trading post here. In 1830, Khwaja Alimullah bought the mansion from the French and made the necessary renovations into his residence. At the center of this residence was a master plan drawn up by Khwaja Abdul Gani Martin & Company, a European construction and engineering company whose main building was Ahsan Manzil. Construction of Ahsan Manzil started in 1859 and was completed in 182. Abdul Gani named the building Ahsan Manzil after his son Khwaja Ahsanullah. The newly built palace building at that time was known as Rangmahal and the former building was known as Andarmahal. Ahsan Manzil is a significant architectural monument of the country. Built on a 1 meter high altar, the two-storey palace building is 125.4 square meters in length and 26.5 square meters in width. The height from floor to ceiling is 5 m on the ground floor and 5.6 m on the second floor. On both the north and south sides of the palace, the car is elevated to the same level as the one-storey verandah and descends from the two-storey verandah to the river bank through a large open staircase facing the garden. There was a fountain in the garden in front of the stairs which is not present. On the north and south sides of both the floors of the palace there is a wide verandah with semicircular arches. The floors of the verandas and rooms are decorated with marble stones. Realizing the historical and architectural importance of Ahsan Manzil, the Bangladesh government has renovated the building and turned it into a museum. The renovation work was completed in 1992 under the charge of the Department of Public Works and Architecture. Ahsan Manzil is ostentatiously European in its architectural expression, even though the building's recessed verandahs may recall the Mughal treatment of buildings in a tropical climate. Its triple-arched portal, temple façade capped by a pediment, Greco-Roman column capitals, pilasters, and arched windows—all suggest that it is mostly a European-style building, meshed with some decorative Indian motifs. The palace's soaring dome appears to be more about impressing the viewer on the exterior, rather than within the interior.

Ahsan Manzil used to be the official residential palace and seat of the Nawab of Dhaka. The building is situated at Kumartoli along the banks of the Buriganga River in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Construction was started in 1859 and was completed in 1872. It was constructed in the Indo-Saracenic Revival architecture. Recognizing the historical and architectural importance of the Ahsan Manzil, the government of Bangladesh took the initiative to renovate it. In 1985, Ahsan Manzil and its surroundings were acquired. After the completion of the renovation work in 1992 under the supervision of the Directorate of Public Works and Architecture, it was brought under the control of Bangladesh National Museum (20 September 1992). A museum has been established there. Considering the historical importance and architectural significance of Ahsan Manzil palace, the government was trying to conserve it since the later part of the Pakistani rule. The father of nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman canceled its auction proposal option. On 2 November 1974, he ordered to establish a museum and tourist center after its proper conservation. After the implementation of the work on the museum started, most of the nawab's house area along with the half of the portion of the Andarmahal remained beyond acquisition. The total area of acquired land was 5.65 acres. Out of that 0.68 acres from northern side was given to Dhaka City Corporation to establish a super market and 4.96 acres of land with the palace buildings remained for museum purpose. In 1986, the work began according to the above order keeping the original structure undisturbed and reconstructing the old environment as far as possible. After the completion of the renovation work in 1992, under the supervision of the Directorate of Public Works and Architecture, it was brought under the control of Bangladesh National Museum (20 September 1992). A museum has been established there.

AHSAN MANZIL IS LOCATED IN the Sadarghat area, a riverfront like no others.  The hustle and bustle of Sadarghat can be overwhelming, with boats carrying produce, laborers unloading boxes, and a wild variety of vehicles transporting the goods to their next destination. The streets are packed, the smells pungent, the colors vivid, and the sounds disorienting. In the mayhem that is Sadarghat, the Ahsan Manzil compound is a fenced-off oasis of unexpected peace and quiet. Built between 1859 and 1872, Ahsan Manzil served as the residence of the Nawab of Dhaka. These days, the palace is a reminder of Bangladesh’s colonial past. Its ostentatious Western architecture incorporates elements of Mughal design, a popular trend among the affluent and aristocratic elite of Dhaka in the 18th and 19th centuries. After being largely abandoned upon the Newab’s death, Ahsan Manzil was restored and turned into a museum in 1985. The building is dominated by a large dome that caps an octagonal room, and a wide staircase leading to an arched portal. Along the façade of the building are porticoes that offer expansive views of the Buringa River. Apart from its architecture, Ahsan Manzil is famous for its bright pink color.

Once the official residence of the Nawab family, this stately red structure was built in the mid-to-late 1800s. This stunning palace was damaged and abandoned after a tornado hit in 1888. Khwaja Abdul Gani and his son worked tirelessly to resurrect and reconstruct the structures that were deemed too dangerous to inhabit, which resulted in the birth of what is today, designated as a national museum.

Situated on the banks for the Burigangs River, Ahsan Manzil was the palace of the Nawabs of Dhaka. A factory of the French East India Company existed on the site in 1838 when the land was purchased by Khwaja Alimullah in 1838. The factory buildings were converted into lodging. Construction of the striking palace that exists on the site now was carried out by Nawab Sir Abdul Ghani, who named the new palace after his son Nawab Sir Ahsanullah Bahadur. The existing housing was connected to the new palace by a covered wooden bridge. The grand palace of the Ahsan Manzil combined European and Mughal styles of architecture, and dominated the skyline along the river front promenade. A central area has an octagonal dome that had to be rebuilt after a tornado in 1888. Two wings extending from each side along the river. The east wing contained a drawing room, library, and guest rooms. The east wing had a ball room and additional bedrooms. Ahsan Manzil was eventually abandoned by its wealthy inhabitants. The main palace was occupied by less wealthy members of the family, and divided into smaller apartments that made it structurally unsound. Other buildings and the grounds were occupied by slum dwellers. These residents were evicted in 1985, and the property was restored. COPYRIGHT - Courtesy of architect Aminur Rahman (photographer)

Ahsan Manzil in 1965 In Mughal era, there was a garden house of Sheikh Enayet Ullah, the landlord of Jamalpur Porgona (district), in this place. Sheikh Enayet Ullah was a very charming person. He acquired a very big area in Kumartoli (Kumartuli) and included it in his garden house. Here he built a beautiful palace and named it "Rongmohol" (Rangmahal). He used to enjoy here keeping beautiful girls collected from the country and abroad, dressing them with gorgeous dresses and expensive ornaments. There is a saying that, the founder of Dhaka (representative of mughal emperor) was attracted to one of the beautiful girls. Probably in the period of Nawab Alibardi Khan(Grandfather of Nawab Siraj-Ud-Daulah) around 1740 century, Sheikh Moti Ullah, the son of Sheikh Enayet Ullah, sold the property to the French traders. In the east side of the old building, he made a new building with a different design, and also done great renovation work to the old building. Since then, the old building was called "Ondor Mohol" and the new building was called "Rangmahal". So Khwaja Abdul Ghani and his son Khwaja Ahsanullah tu

The old French building was reconstructed to a two storied building keeping similarity to the Rangmahal. A gangway was made with wood connecting the first floors of the two buildings. The most beautiful thing made in this time was the dome, which made the palace so beautiful. After the death of Khwaja Ahsanullah in 1901, the glory of Ahsan Manzil was ended. His successors could not continue the glory because of the internal family quarrel. They rented different parts of the palace to tenants, who actually made it a slum. In 1952, govt. acquired the property and left in

Ahsan Manzil was the official residential palace and seat of the Dhaka Nawab Family. This magnificent building is situated at Kumartoli along the banks of the Buriganga River in Bangladesh. The construction of this palace was started in the year 1859 and was completed in 1869. It is constructed in the Indo-Saracenic Revival architecture. To preserve the cultural and history of the area, the palace became the Bangladesh National Museum on 20 September 1992. Ahsan Manzil is one of the most significant architectural monuments of Bangladesh. The building structure was established on a raised platform of 1 meter, the two-storied palace measures 125.4m by 28.75m. The height of the ground floor is 5 meters and the height of the first floor 5.8 meters.

Ahsan Manzil is indeed a historical landmark and museum located in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It holds great cultural and historical significance for the country. Let me provide you with some information about Ahsan Manzil and its history: Ahsan Manzil, also known as the Pink Palace, is a magnificent mansion situated on the banks of the Buriganga River in Old Dhaka. It was originally built in the 19th century during the era of the Nawabs of Bengal. The construction of the palace began in 1859 and was completed in 1872. The Ahsan Manzil served as the official residential palace of the Nawab family and was particularly associated with Khwaja Alimullah, who was a wealthy landlord and a prominent member of the Dhaka Nawab family. It later became the residence of Nawab Abdul Gani, his son. The palace was named after Nawab Khwaja Ahsanullah, the son of Nawab Abdul Gani. The architectural style of Ahsan Manzil is a fusion of Mughal and European influences, predominantly reflecting the Indo-Saracenic architectural style. The palace complex covers an area of around 5 acres and features a magnificent pink-colored building with a distinct dome and grand portico. Unfortunately, Ahsan Manzil suffered extensive damage during a tornado in 1888 and a devastating earthquake in 1897. However, the palace was reconstructed and restored under the supervision of Lord Curzon, the then Viceroy of India. The reconstruction was completed in 1901, and the palace regained its former glory. In 1985, the Bangladesh government converted Ahsan Manzil into a museum to showcase the rich heritage and history of Dhaka and its Nawabi era. The museum exhibits a wide range of artifacts, photographs, paintings, furniture, and other items that provide insights into the lifestyle, culture, and traditions of the Nawab family and the bygone era. Ahsan Manzil is a popular tourist attraction, drawing visitors who are interested in exploring the architectural beauty, historical significance, and cultural heritage of Bangladesh. The museum offers a glimpse into the opulent lifestyle of the Nawabs and provides a fascinating journey back in time. Please note that the information provided is based on the historical knowledge available up until September 2021, and there may have been updates or changes since then.

It provides an immersive journey into the vibrant local traditions and culture, offering hours of exploration within its extensive museum. The only downside is the somewhat inconvenient online ticket registration process. Nonetheless, the scenic surroundings make it a perfect place for quality time with loved ones, whether it's a family outing or a relaxing picnic. Despite the ticketing inconvenience, I wholeheartedly recommend experiencing this delightful destination.

Ahsan Manzil Museum is a must-see for anyone interested in Bangladeshi history and culture. The museum is housed in a beautiful palace that was once the home of the Nawab of Dhaka. The palace is beautifully restored and the exhibits are well-curated. I learned a lot about the history of Bangladesh and the Nawab family during my visit. I would highly recommend Ahsan Manzil Museum to anyone visiting Dhaka.

Worth a visit but pretty disappointing... beautiful building from outside, nice garden, but the interior is not well kept. it gives an idea of standard of living at that time from wealthy/ruling class. Staff is very friendly. Beware however that over the week end you may need to queue long and they close it at lunch time and reopen at 3

The exterior and interior are not well maintained. The grounds around the museum have overgrown grass and weeds. The interior is not very interesting with only a few relics from families that lived there in the early 20th century.

Ahsan Manzil situated at Kumartoli of Dhaka on the bank of the Buriganga, was the residential palace and the kachari of the nawabs of Dhaka. It has been turned into a museum. It was said to be the Rang Mahal of Sheikh Enayetullah, a zamindar of Jamalpur pargana (Barisal) during the time of the Mughals. Having purchased it from his son Matiullah, the french made it their trading centre. Khwaja Alimullah bought it from the French in 1830 and converted it into his residence, effecting necessary reconstruction and renovations. Nawab Khwaja Abdul Ghani engaged Martin and Company, a European construction and engineering firm, to make a master plan for their residence. The construction of the palace was begun in 1859 and completed in 1872. Abdul Ghani named it Ahsan Manzil after his son Khwaja Ahsanullah. At that time the newly built palace was known as Rang Mahal and the earlier one was called Andar Mahal. Ahsan Manzil was pertly damage by a terrible tornado On April 7, 1888, particularly the Andar Mahal of the palace. Nawab Ahsanullah rebuilt the Andar Mahal and repaired the Rang Mahal using good quality bricks that were brought from Raniganj. The exquisite dome of the present Rang Mahal was interposed. Ahsan Manzil was badly damaged again by the earthquake of 12 June 1897. However, Nawab Ahsanullah had it repaired again. Ahsan Manzil, an architectural treasure, witnessed many historical events of Bangladesh. From the last part of the 19th century to the initial years of Pakistan, the Muslim leadership of East Bengal emerged from this palace. The nawabs of Dhaka used to conduct their court affairs here as chief of the panchayet (village council) everyday. Many anti-Congress meetings were held here under the initiative of Nawab Ahsanullah, a staunch believer in Muslim separate identity. Almost all the Viceroys, Governors and Lieutenant Governors of British India who visited Dhaka spent some time at the Ahsan Manzil. In 1874, Lord Northbrook, the then Governor General of India attended an evening function here in the palace when he came to lay the foundation of a water works installed by Nawab Abdul Ghani. In 1888, Lord dufferin also accepted the hospitality offered at Ahsan Manzil. In 1904 Lord curzon, on a visit to East Bengal, stayed in this palace on 18 and 19 February to win public support for the proposed Partition of Bengal. Almost all political activities of Nawab Khwaja Salimullah centred round this palace. Ahsan Manzil was the cradle of the All India Muslim League. With the decline of the nawabs of Dhaka, Ahsan Manzil also started to decline. When in 1952 the Dhaka Nawab State was acquired under the East Bengal Estate Acquisition Act, it became impossible for the successors of the nawabs to maintain the palace due to financial constraints. Nawab Khwaja habibullah shifted his residence to Paribag Green House soon after the acquisition of the zamindari.

It was an interesting historical tour at ahsan monjil Museum in Dhaka. The museum is beside the Buriganga river. There is an entry gate beside the ticket counter. There is also a waiting room where we can store our luggage. The museum has two different buildings for the visitors. Here, we can learn about "nabab family histry" and which maquillage, arms and goods they used. It was an awesome place for tourists.
