A lovely city center for gathering with restaurants and coffee shops on all sides, a bazaar around the perimeter, a lot of grass for all the Iranians who come to picnic, and horses and carriages. However, there is no shade anywhere so it is better to come at night or late afternoon. For those who want to pray the large mosque is attached and is free during the time of prayer - but to see the main old mosque it is blocked for those who pay (unfortunately).

An absolute must to see!!! Naqshe Jahan is a historic area of Isfahan known for its array of pristine 17th-century architectural marvels, including the grand Abbasi Great Mosque, the Hasht Behesht Palace and the Chehel Sotoon Palace, plus its namesake Naqsh-e Jahan Square, a vast space with a pond and gardens. Many teahouses, casual cafes and restaurants are dotted throughout the area. Spot a day to explore this amazing area and make sure to witness its beauty during the sunset. Highly recommended!!!

Equally beautiful at night or during the day, this is one of the most unique places I have ever seen. The atmosphere is great, the shops around offer cheap but beautiful and high quality souvenirs and some main attractions are just few steps away. A must see place if you decide to visit Iran!

Naqsh-e Jahan Square (Image of the World Square) , also known as the Shah Square (میدان شاه) prior to 1979 (currently named Imam Khomenei square), is a square situated at the center of Isfahan, Iran. Constructed between 1598 and 1629, it is now an important historical site, and one of UNESCO's World Heritage Sites. The square is surrounded by buildings from the Safavid era. The Shah Mosque is situated on the south side of this square. On the west side is the Ali Qapu Palace. Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque is situated on the eastern side of this square and at the northern side Qeysarie Gate opens into the Isfahan Grand Bazaar. It’s the main attraction in the city, 80% of your time in Isfahan will be spent in this square or its surroundings. In the weekend, it’s filled with locals who spend their free time here, the vibes of the place are amazing and very welcoming. It’s also filled with artisan shops, cafes, spice shops, etc.

Beautiful square. Locals are just sitting around in the garden. There are cafes as well. Just soak in the atmosphere.

Naqsh-e Jahan Square, also known as Imam Square, is a UNESCO World Heritage site located in Isfahan, Iran. It is one of the most iconic and historically significant landmarks in the country, attracting both locals and tourists alike. Here is a review of Naqsh-e Jahan Square: Historical Significance: Naqsh-e Jahan Square has a rich history dating back to the 17th century when it was built during the Safavid dynasty. It was designed as a centerpiece of the capital city, Isfahan, and served as a grand showcase of the city's cultural and architectural prowess during that era. Architectural Marvel: The square is an architectural masterpiece, showcasing remarkable Islamic architecture and design. Surrounded by impressive structures like the Imam Mosque, Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque, Ali Qapu Palace, and Qeysarieh Portal, the square embodies the artistic and cultural achievements of the Safavid period. Spacious and Vibrant: The vastness of the square is awe-inspiring. Its large open space allows for various activities, such as picnics, games, and social gatherings. It is particularly lively during the evenings when locals and tourists gather to enjoy the atmosphere and interact with each other. Cultural Hub: Naqsh-e Jahan Square is not just a historical site but also a cultural hub in Isfahan. Artisans and vendors often set up stalls around the square, selling traditional handicrafts, souvenirs, and local snacks. This adds to the vibrant and bustling ambiance of the place. Stunning Islamic Art: The intricate tile work, calligraphy, and mosaics found in the mosques and buildings surrounding the square are breathtaking. The colors and patterns are mesmerizing, reflecting the expertise of the artisans of that time. Accessibility: The square is conveniently located in the heart of Isfahan, making it easily accessible by foot or public transportation. It is also surrounded by various other attractions, making it a must-visit location for tourists exploring the city. Crowds and Noise: As a popular tourist destination, Naqsh-e Jahan Square can get quite crowded, especially during peak seasons. This might affect the overall experience, particularly for those seeking a more tranquil atmosphere. Overall, Naqsh-e Jahan Square is a cultural gem and a testament to Iran's rich history and architectural brilliance. It is a must-visit destination for history enthusiasts, architecture lovers, and anyone eager to experience the vibrant atmosphere of this iconic Iranian landmark. However, visitors should be prepared for crowds and might want to visit during quieter times for a more intimate experience.

Visited with family once in the evening and again during the day. It’s an incredible sight to see - full of culture. As the tour guide at Ali Qapu put it, it fulfils 3 purposes of why it was built this way. Faith, economy, culture. Mosques, market stalls, and a cultural, historic experience with the palace on its premises. Best view is from the terrace of Ali Qapu! You get an incredible overview of the square.

Previously called the Shah square. You'll find the Abbas mosque, Sheikh Lotf Allah mosque and the Ali Qapu Palace, as well as bazars, here. It's one of the largest city squares in the world. Go to the terrace of the palace for the best view of the square!

Probably the main attraction in a very beautiful city Isfahan Square is truly beautiful. It should be viewed at different times of day and night. It is particularly wonderful at night time, but there is really no bad time to visit the square and to relax and watch half the world go by.

One of the best places in the country. Beautiful in many ways. Its architecture, spirit and atmosphere make you feel like you are on another planet. The square, which is quiet in the morning, turns into a place where people picnic in the evening. Must see and that's it. Don't leave the city before walking in this square at least for few times.

It is an enormous area enclosed by the facilities of the old Ali Qapu Palace. There are shops all around, also two mosques and the palace itself to visit. The square becomes a breathtaking place in the evening with the coolness of the air, lights reflecting in the pool, and people chilling out.

Naqsh Jahan Square of Isfahan is one of the most famous sightseeing places in Isfahan and Iran. The first image that comes to my mind after hearing the name of Isfahan is Naqsh Jahan Square. All four sides of the square are full of ancient monuments that can be visited, such as Ali Qapu, Imam Mosque and Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque, etc. Also, the area around the square is a market where famous Isfahan souvenir (Gaz) and Isfahan handicrafts are sold.

What a better name than the Pattern of the World? Naqsh-e Jahan Square (known as Shah Square or the Royal Square) is one of the largest squares in the world filled with green open space and is surrounded by historic landmarks of the Safavid dynasty. our visit from the Bazaar around the square was delightful.

One of the most beautiful squares in the entire country. It contains 2 mosques, a Palace and a Bazaar (traditional shopping center). The square was constructed 400+ years ago by Shah Abbas when he moved his Capital from Qazvin to Isfahan. It's an architectural marvel and a must see for every tourist. I'd suggest visiting the architectural sites like Ali Qapu Palace, Masjid Shah, and Sheikh Lotf Allah Mosque during day when the shopping center is also open. I'd also suggest doing a little picnic in the square at night as it is a beautiful when garnished with lights. I've added a few night time shots.

Come at night. It's awe-inspiring. One of the Jewels of Iran and the world. Literally translates to masterpiece of the world. Isfahan is a very well conserved historical cities and has a lot to offer. Untouched by over tourism, pristine and wonderful. Don't forget to buy Gaz and some hand-made crafts while there.

Naqsh Jahan Square has a very beautiful and wide space. Walking in the space and historical context is exciting. Especially at sunset, the atmosphere of the markets and the sound of the call to prayer is very interestingو

One of the most extraordinary places I've ever seen. The architecture here is something beyond my expectation. There are so many surrounding places to see. There are so many such as local traditional markets. In general, Isfahan is the most beautiful city I've seen in Iran. Definitely recommend others to visit the city and definitely will visit it again. Thank you Iran. Love from Oman.

Naqsh Jahan Square, also known by the historical name of Shah Square and after the Iranian revolution of 1357, with the official name of Imam Square, is the central square of Isfahan city, which is located in the heart of the historical complex of Naqsh Jahan. Shah (Imam Mosque), Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque and Sardar Qaisarieh, which is the main entrance to Isfahan Bazaar. In addition to these buildings, two hundred two-story rooms are located around the square, which are generally the place of supply of handicrafts of Isfahan.

Anyone is interested in Persian culture, in particular the Safavid era, Naqshe-e Jahan Square would be one of the best places to explore the legacy of this important era. Ali Qabu Palace, Abbassi Mosque, Shiekh Lotfollah Mosque and every historic building inform the tourist about the luxury of architecture and charming artworks.
