Great options for vegans, including desserts. They also offer a special glutenfree menu, very inclusive. The portions are quite big, the price is fair enough. The super friendly staff and cozy atmosphere makes everything perfect.

Awesome food, they also have vegan and vegetarian menu. Friendly staff, nice interior and atmosphere. Only downside are the bathrooms, there was no soap and the toilet seat was broken. But I still recommend a visit.

Lovely local pub where you can enjoy a cozy atmosphere. You’ll find all “spirts” that matters, local bear, food and nice services!

Asked for a pint of cider on draught and was told they’ve “ran out”, were waiting ages to be served and waited a good while for our drinks too. Very cold and a very bad atmosphere. Four tv’s in the place and not one of them could be put on for sport, no music, nothing… very poor

A lovely place for a nice dinner and afterwards a pint. They take the COVID-rules really serious, I appreciate this. I would highly recommend this place to anyone.

We were visiting in Dublin for a week and my daughter who is a Vegan, found The Abbey during a search while we planned to visit Howth. What a find! The staff were all very nice and pleasant. Their menus are top notch and provide a wide array of options for all kinds of tastes. I had the seafood chowder, which, by far, was the best chowder of any kind I have ever had. Loaded with a variety of seafood. I also enjoyed their petit filet which was fantastic. My daughter had a full dish of vegan delights and she was very happy. This place is on our list of fantastic restaurants in Ireland. BTW, Howth is a gem of a little fishing village that is a must see. Thanks to Nessa (sp?) for her wonderful service for our table and her gift of gab, very, very nice. Thanks to all at the Abbey for providing us a very memorable meal!!

What a great traditional old pub in the heart of Howth Harbour. A famous fishing village that you can get the train or bus to from the city centre with beautiful Scenic walks great place to relax have food and let the world pass you by

Amazing place. A think theese hamburgers were the best I ate in a long time. Lovely service, good beer. We arrived after a long trip around the Island, and were probably dirty and dead tired. They still treated us like some high class guests.

Ambience very nice, however, it was really very cold when sitting had to sit partially with jacket. The young waitress was very nice and courteous, the second waitress, estimated the boss was not the friendliest. The food was really delicious (on the pictures you can see the fish and chips, lasagna and vegetarian pasta). It was very nicely decorated for Christmas however when sitting it was way too cold. Would recommend, but you should ask for a seat by the fireplace.

Never had such creative and delicious vegan food in my life. Exceeded all my expectations! They have a whole vegan menu which even includes desserts. Loved everything! Nice ambiente and good service too.

Delicious food with a great selection. We had the chicken wings with buffalo sauce for starts. Mains was a cod fish and chips along with corned beef and cabbage. For dessert we had chocolate almond cake and apple crumble. Gorgeous food and best of all it was all gluten free. It's hard to find places with a good gluten free selection. Abbey Tavern has a great selection of gluten free dishes, great for a coeliac.

Good food and a good atmosphere in a lovely pub setting. Came here several times pre covid and enjoyed it, came in 2019 and received some bad food and service which turned us off it for a while but recently returned twice and have been more than happy with the service and food. Their burgers are very nice, with a great range of vegetarian and vegan options for those with other dietary needs

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 I recently had the pleasure of dining at Abbey Tavern in Howth, Ireland, and let me tell you, it was an amazing experience! 🍀😋 Firstly, let's talk about the food. The corned beef dish I ordered was absolutely mouthwatering! 🍖🔥 The meat was tender and flavorful, cooked to perfection. Each bite was a delightful explosion of deliciousness! 🤤👌 Not only was the food top-notch, but the prices were incredibly reasonable, especially when compared to eateries in Dublin. Abbey Tavern offers exceptional value for money without compromising on taste or quality. 💰💯 The ambiance of the tavern was charming and cozy, providing a warm and inviting atmosphere. The staff were friendly, attentive, and made me feel right at home. 🏰🍻 To sum it up, if you're looking for a delightful dining experience in Howth, Abbey Tavern is the place to be! Their mouthwatering corned beef, wallet-friendly prices, and excellent service make it a true gem in the heart of Ireland. I can't wait to visit again! 🌟🍀😊

Very cold physically, my partner and I were freezing and also a cold atmosphere. Asked to put the tv on nicely so that we could watch the Dublin match and there was four tv’s in sight and was told that it’s a restaurant and if we want to watch the match we’d have to be in the bar section. This doesn’t really make any sense as there were four tv’s that I had clear view and could have watched it on. No point having tv’s if there not allowed to be put on.

Booked here as we were in howth for the day. Did not disappoint. Food was fab. Salmon, fish and chips and the corned beef. Wings went down a treat too. Fully recommend

If they put as much effort into the food as they do contact tracing etc it might be worth going. The food was cold, meat was poorly cooked. The poor server was running around like crazy but unfortunately the food was awful! Do not recommend...

I would give it five out of ten, fish was not great to be fair, wings were good, dessert was good also, but would not be rushing back

Stopped off here for evening dinner after walking the cliff path from Howth Harbour to the light House. The pub is close to harbour but slightly off the beaten track. We booked in advance (would recommend) and had an upstairs table. The food was excellent and plentiful. We had Scampi and a Seafood platter. After dinner we sat downstairs in the bar for a drink before catching the train back to Dublin.

The best vegan pub food I've had in Dublin! Staff are friendly and efficient, and have excellently adapted the premises around Covid-19 regulations. We sat outside, a few outdoor heaters wouldn't have gone amiss but other than that, I cannot recommend The Abbey Tavern enough!

The place looks lovely inside and outside. Staff were good. Can't complain. I highly recommend a visit there if you're in howth. Maybe just make a reservation if you want to start outside. They have seats inside for people with Covid certificate of vaccination.

We enjoyed a lovely meal on Friday night. My husband had the fish platter which consisted of an enormous quantity of quality fish - see photo. This is a cold dish, beautifully presented. I had the beer battered fish and chips- the batter was very light and the fish was tasty. For dessert I had a chocolate Bailey's cheesecake which was amazing!Tables were well placed and we had to show our vaccination certs and photo ID on arrival. Staff were attentive and very friendly.

Ooooh my best experience in having very traditional and really delicious food in Dublin🤤 Had pleasure to try traditional fish and chips and mashed potatoes pie with beef.DELICIOUS!!!even if I couldn’t breathe because of a big portion 😂 Atmosphere is super irish, local people gather at the bar stand to watch the game, which brings you to real life of the citizens, design of the place is very lovely, hostess and waiters are super friendly! Thank you for real pleasure being a part of Irish culture for a moment😍 Recommend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Food here was delicious! I didn't expect it to be so tasty! There was a whole veggie menu which had good choices. I went for the cauliflower wings followed by a creamy pasta. The wings were really lovely, not too battered and very tasty. Was absolutely stuffed afterwards. Would definitely go back.

We had dinner here and the food was good, but the best part was the entertainment that came with the dinner. There was a folk singing trio and some Irish dancers. Both were excellent performances and they all seemed to be having a good time on stage.

Several people were making a lot of noise and their drunken screams were louder than the music at the concert. The administration of the pub did nothing to provide other people with a normal environment and the opportunity to enjoy the concert. Apparently, they were so afraid of drunk travelers that they decided to abuse conscientious people and ruined the concert. But we didn't pay the money for such an outrage.

Mighty Irish food, fantastic beer! Get onion rings, they’re huge! Careful with the Guinness Pie, it can feed a family of 4.

It has been a wonderful stay at the abbey tavern. The waitresses were very attentive and friendly, even our request to be seated a little further away from the door was absolutely no issue. Our cocktails were perfect - but the best thing about it was the food! Really nice and fresh with some unique and local spins to it that we hadn't seen or tasted before. Everything was really nice and fresh, tasted incredible. We enjoyed every minute and every bite! Highly recommended.

What a great restaurant, 2 floors plus outdoor seating. Very clean, nicely decorated, service was perfect and the food was fantastic. We had the fisherman's plate with a lot salmon. The bread and butter pudding dessert was huge, it could have been a seperate meal. Definitely check this place out if you're in the area.

Loved the atmosphere, With the stone walls, the fire place, and all the christmas decoration The service was very friendly and i really liked the variety of the menues, that there's a vegetarian and also a vegan menu. The food was nice, was jealous of the pie that my friends had, would be nice if you had a vegan option of that 😁 The cauliflower-wings were our favourite. Overall very nice restaurant and will be back

Popped in at 12.30 on a freezing cold December afternoon. We got seated beside a blazing and very welcoming fire. Our waitress was excellent, double checking our order. The food arrived very quickly and was tasty. The barman was great with the kids, cracking a few dad jokes and putting a smile on their faces!

I visited Abbey Tavern on a Sunday evening for dinner and drinks (~8pm). The service was good however the atmosphere was terrible. A tremendously intoxicated table drowned out the conversation for everyone else in the tavern. The food was really mediocre, and far too expensive for the quality. I wouldn’t visit again.

Was there last weekend and really enjoyed the food and atmosphere. Given the times we are currently living in, I also want to commend the amazing work by Richard and the team in following the covid guidelines and ensuring the dining experience was both a safe and very pleasant one! So thanks again and great to see you guys back open :)

So friendly, non obtrusive service. Really nice atmosphere, you're made to feel very welcome and never rushed. Real fire, comfortable chairs. Excellent toilets with disabled access very clean throughout. Even though it's a cosy space you still have enough space to have a private conversion I would definitely recommend for a small meeting place where you can be treated with outstanding service. Thank you guys for taking such good care of me when I visited my son 😘🙏😁

Went here for lunch and drinks the day before Dublin officially had to close pubs again. Was sad to hear as Abbey Tavern was one of the best oganised places I have been in terms of COVID guidelines. A lovley lady at the door behind a screen came out and took our temperature before taking us to our table, all tables spread out, QR code menus and foot pedal on doors so you don't have to touch the handles, they had gone above and beyond. The food was amazing. My friends that were with me were vegan and gluten intolerant, they were so impresed by the menu that we all decided to have starters and main. I had chowder for starter and steak for main, both delious. Such great quality food and brillant staff, I hope they get all the business they deserve when the doors reopen again.

If you're vegan and plan on going to Howth, this place is the best for a tasty meal, a good pint of Guinness and a nice view. Their cauliflower wings are amazing! And as my non-vegan boyfriend said: it's just like chicken wings but without the bones. Delicious! I also got their vegan curry (which was also great) but it was a bit too much food for me. So be careful if you can't eat a lot. They have a separate vegan menu so no need to ask if this or that has animal products. The staff is helpful and welcoming. I recommend this place 100% !!

The BEST place to go in Dublin if you are a coeliac looking for fantastic seafood. Beautiful bar setting, brilliant staff and excellent covid19 precautions and cleaning. Scampi, fisherman's pie, burgers etc all gluten free, in fact they have an entire gluten free menu! Honestly I couldn't fault it.

  • 5/5 Laura M. 3 years ago on Google
They made sure that all safety measures were in place and even took my temperature at the door, which is something I appreciated. The food is very good, I personally would recommend their mindblowing apple crumble. Their mashed potatoes should be avoided though, as they were incredibly bland!

  • 5/5 Corbett F. 3 years ago on Google
Really enjoyed myself. From the exterior, interior, ambiance, service and food - Abbey Tavern really preforms! I had the cauliflower wings for an appetizer, curry for my main, the stick toffee pear pudding for desert finished off with an espresso. The portions were generous and presentation was nice. Really enjoyed the experience. Will definitely be back and I highly recommend.
