Been here a few times and like the staff and food generally but.... When you get served food with mold (and lots of it...) I think that is where I draw the line. Please be careful with quality control!

I just loved the Veggie burger here. It was one of the very satisfying veggie burgers I have had in recent times

Takeout here was great! Truffle fries weren’t soggy at all. Loved the mashed potatoes and generous portion size! Buffalo cauliflower was good but nothing amazing. Overall, I Would order food here again.

Its not often that I leave a review, especially a negative one...but this needs to be known. I had been going to white star 2 to 3 times a week for almost 2 years. There was a certain female bartender that had a questionable attitude, my girlfriend and I were there late one night, the tables were completely empty, and we were at the bar. There were also a few single patrons at the bar. A group of guys came in and the bartender had the nerve to ask us to move so her friends could all sit together. Please know that we were regulars at this bar, but she didn't care. She has missed drink/food orders as well. Never an apology. Her attitude is rotten!!! We actually started going to a different local bar! The only time we go to white star now is when Amber is working! She's kind, thorough, and polite!! We enjoy the bar, the location, and the food, but will only go when she is there. The other female bartender needs a complete attitude adjustment or a different line of work....then we might return, until then we, along with several other "regulars" will be going somewhere else.

Grab an Eggs Benedict and Double Bloody for brunch. Staff are great at the bar. For lunch or dinner, burgers always hit the spot here.

Great local pub. Chicken wings was small portioned for $15. But the nacho was good portioned for $15. Daily happy hours; draft beer is $6. Reg is $7.00. I would visit again.

Before I start this review let me preface this by saying I work in the restaurant industry. I understand when a restaurant is understaffed and am empathetic to any FOH team member being overwhelmed. That being said, I have been here twice and both times the level of indifference/lack of hospitality have been truly shocking. The first time I went here the bartender was loudly complaining how he was incredibly unhappy with management and how stupid the systems in the restaurant bar were. In earshot of everyone dining/drinking at the bar. And it went on for an extended period of time. He then proceeded to see friends of his and ignore us for over half an hour while we waited to order more drinks. The entire time he was tending to his friends who were literally right next to us. This second dining experience we decided to dine outside. We showed up and saw a server who was clearly over her head and very busy. She was tending to the entire section outside with very little support. We asked if we could sit down outside and she told us to be patient and she would get to us soon. There were two tables available but completely understood that she didn’t have the time to seat us right away. She then proceeded to drop a couple of glasses while clearing a table, which again is understandable given how busy she was. Patrons of the restaurant dining outside got up and helped to clean up the mess, sensing how in the weeds she was. We continued to wait patiently. A bartender, an Irish gentleman, then came outside to speak with somebody who walked up to get a table. They clearly knew each other and got into deep conversation. The outdoor server continued to run around trying to service the patio while the bartender seemingly didn’t see how deep in the weeds she was. After about 7 more minutes we finally flagged down the server and asked if it would be okay to sit down at a table outside. She mumbled something in frustration. I repeated the question because I didn’t want to further disrupt her service and she then rolled her eyes and replied “sure sit wherever”. It seemed so incredibly inhospitable, and was very obvious that she didn’t want us there, so we left. I have tried to spend my own money in this establishment twice and have been met with such unbelievable contempt that I will not be going here again.

This is a cool & casual spot to linger with drinks and friends. The double burger double cheese was great 🍔 loved the sauce and fries. The cocktails are nice as well🍸 I enjoyed the Almafi 75. The staff doesn't rush customers which is nice. Would visit again

Amazing experience ! Came with my boyfriend since we are huge burger fans , after reading the reviews we decided to come here . Tom took very good care of us and immediately made us feel welcome . The food was nothing but amazing as well. The burger , wings and Mac and cheese was beyond delicious . Tom makes amazing drinks at the bar , he made me a delicious martini . Definitely will be back again ☺️

Yum! Delicious burgers. We had the classic (with an egg and avocado) and also the fried pickle burger. We got a side of mac and cheese. A star off because the egg was overdone so there was no runny yolk. Also, we asked for our burgers medium and medium rare. The medium came out well done and the medium rare came out medium, unfortunately. Service was lovely and overall a nice lunch experience. If we were in the area, we'd come back.

I'd go back for the tap and burger selection (lots to choose from). Service was really slow, and my burger was not as ordered. But everyone enjoyed their food, and it's definitely a cool, neighborhood joint that I'd have another crack at.

This place is always solid and laid back. One of the few places you can get your burger cooked rare, which can be hit or miss in other places. However, everytime I've ordered a rare burger here, it's been perfect.

Ate here with a friend yesterday, at a pleasant outdoor table. Since it's a little off the beaten path and you don't have swarms of people passing, I always grab an outdoor table, weather permitting. Service was, and has always been, excellent--polite and professional. I've been here maybe 8-10 times over the years, usually opting for one of the burgers or a sandwich, and was never disappointed. But yesterday I chose the beer-battered fish tacos. Big mistake. The breading overwhelmed the fish and was burnt in places. As the batter ballooned out, there was not much space for the toppings (chipotle aioli slaw, pineapple mango slaw) resulting in a messy eating experience. I'm pretty sure they used to offer plain fish tacos, which were delicious, and hope they drop the batter from the menu. Though I have mixed feelings about virtual-only menus, they allow restaurants to easily make changes. I hope they do. My friend had, and enjoyed, the shrimp-blackened wrap.

The staff was so friendly and attentive and they were very accommodating to change dishes. The black bean burger was super good! Love having 2 veggie burger options

This place is always a good time. It’s very low key vibes and a typical bar. But it’s got pretty good cocktails and good food. I really like their salads. The service is always really friendly and helpful too. It’s a good neighborhood staple.

I don’t like to leave reviews but whitestar deserves one. I always order for a late night bite for pick up and the service is great. Always so attentive, helpful and very nice. The fries are amazing and huge portion for a side. Also the veggie burger is the best I’ve ever had from a restaurant. Been coming here for 2 years and it’s always consistent. Never had a bad experience.

Very nice and cozy place. Good selection of beers and cocktails. Fantastic burgers! And good grilled cheese sandwich for kids.

Mallory is a wonderful bartender and over all person. The old fashions are wonderful. The burgers are top notch with creative toppings. Great vibes. A must go if you are in Jersey City.

$20.35 each, Jim says they are the best hamburger in Jersey City, comes with french fries or salad. Delivery is fast.

I got the fish sandwich and was very underwhelmed. Fries were a bit overdone too. BUT my friend and boyfriend loved their meals (steak & eggs and the star burger) so I guess stick to the classics here.

A charming little joint in the Hamilton park area! Absolutely my #1 go-to restaurant whenever I get the chance to show someone around the neighborhood or even pop in with my regulars. I highly recommend the white star burger; it’s a prime example of simple yet effective, especially if you opt to slap some bacon and eggs on it (my personal order)

Love the vibe and service was great. I got the French onion soup to start which was tasty. I appreciated that it wasn't served boiling hot as it usually is. I was actually able to dig in relatively quickly!! After the soup I had the Van Vorst burger and my partner had the double cheeseburger. Mine was good, but his was better. Some things are just better classic! I do have 2 things to note - the burgers both could've used more salt, as the patties were pretty bland, and we both asked for a medium cook but both received well done. This made our burgers a touch dry. I would definitely eat here again, however I do feel it's overpriced.

Omg I absolutely love love this place it was my first time but everything was so delicious . The Brunswick cod salad I believe was amazing amazing & my drink everything even the waitress was super friendly . Hands down have to visit again !!!!! Cheers !!!!!!!

We ordered from here last summer and had a poor experience. After posting about it on Yelp, Claudia G. responded quickly and resolved our issue. My bf and I choose to have our anniversary dinner here. We both had the Exchange burger with a side of fries and it was DELICIOUS! The ambiance was very nice, customer service awesome, & they played a great selection of Music. We'll definitely be back...Thank you for a pleasant experience! 🙂

Shrimp bao buns are amazing, light and filling. Truly my fave. Service is good. Have had a couple other menu items that were pretty regular but the bao buns and service keep me coming back.

White Star is my go-to to-go spot during quarantine. Their food travels well, gets to me quick and never disappoints. Their Buffalo Cauliflower and Brussel Sprouts are crazy good sides/starters. Their burgers are amazing and cooked-to-order which isn’t always true with takeout burgers. 10/10. Can’t wait to go in-person once everything opens back up

Heard about this place in an article on the best Hamburgers. Of course since we were so close we went and checked it out. This place did not disappoint, even the French Fries were good. Service was friendly and they always made sure you were taken care of

Came across this spot for a quick lunch. I ordered online, the crispy chicken sandwich with french fries and it came to $14.93. When I arrived there was no parking so had to park illegally and hop out. The bar and grill had indoor and outdoor seating. I was greeted by the server and he grabbed my food and I left. When I got in I tried the meal and the fries and sandwich was tasty. The slaw they had with it went well together. I will definitely return to try more.
