I was in the mood for Indian food for lunch so I swung by this spot. I called in my order of tadka dal and tandoori roti and it came to about $14.80. The nice lady told me it would take about 20 minutes. Parking in the area is kind of tough so I had to park illegally nearby when I arrived. The nice lady greeted me when I walked in. The restaurant looked really new when I walked in so I asked when it opened. She said about a year ago and we spoke a little more before I paid and left. She was very nice. When I tried the food, I must say it was very good. It had just enough spice and seasoning. The tandoor roti was very tasty as well. They also gave a really good portion of food and it was so filling, I couldn't even finish. I will definitely be back for more.

If you are looking for some good Delhi standard North Indian food in the area then this place should be on the top of your list. For appetisers, We order the angara paneer which was something different and tasted great. We also ordered the malai soya chaap which took us to the street stalls from old Delhi. Amazing flavour and really soft. For the mains we got the daal makhni and paneer lababdar. The paneer was mildly spiced and not too heavy and the dal was a good makhni dal we had after a long time. They also have rumali rotis on their menu but do check with them if the chef is making them on the particular day or not. It won’t be the authentic rumali that North Indians are used to. It’s more of a large think roti but still tastes good. The naans and rotis were crisp. This place will surely remind you of home and the street style North Indian food.

We have been to Swadist multiple times and it has never disappointed! Tastiest food, great service and good atmosphere. We tried the lunch buffet and it was amazing.. the sweets - rasmalai and moong dal halwa were the best!! The salads were surprisingly tasty and the main course was very delicious (dal makhani, goat curry & paneer biryani were my favourites). Their a la carte menu is exceptional as well - we tried the lamb biryani, soya chaap, chole rice and paneer gravy (they give it with a large serving of rice and it was sufficient for 2 of us). Highly recommend this place and will keep going back :)

I went to Swadist in the middle of Nor'easter and we had entire restaurant to ourselves. Food was fresh and well prepared. We never felt rushed to finish our meal at any point. I recommend this restaurant if you are in Jersey city and looking for Indian food. Customer service was decent.

Loved the food. So many different and new dishes on the menu. We ordered beet root tiki, veg munchrian dry, mixed veg gravy, and Hakka noodles. The food is very tasty. Service is quick and people are really warm. Must visit

I've tried every single restaurant in Newark ave/journal square area and I'm so glad I found this when browsing online, it's the BEST Asian/Indian restaurant in the jersey city area. The place is clean (even the cloth linens smell good!), the portions are great, pricing spot on, presentation is BEAUTIFUL and the taste!!! We tried more things which I forgot to photograph but I can't wait to go and try more things. The staff is wonderful I especially loved the aunty that kept an eye on us and gave us water regularly, we felt at home. Honestly come here, you won't be disappointed.

Cute little place for Indian food. The staff is great and really friendly/homely. Food is good on most days and so is service except if you come on Friday evening - it could be different than other days Tried veg Momos, they are great. Soya chap was good on a weekday not so good on Friday evening. Food overall is better than many Indian restaurants in the vicinity Hope it remains consistent and uniform throughout

One of the best and authentic restaurant in the street. It is fresh and Hygienic. I went a couple of times for Buffet and for dinner with my family. Every time I go food is on the point. Their chaat is seriously delicious. They also had mango moose and chocolate moose which was also delicious but i would recommend chocolate moose over mango moose. They also have varieties of salads. Their dessert are super delicious and they are homemade too. Each dishes in their menu have different taste. Its a family owned restaurant. They treat you like a family. I would highly recommend everyone to come here and try their food. You will leave with a big smile on your face.

One of the best place to have Indian cooked meals. We ordered chilly garlic noodles and goat curry along with naan basket. Their goat curry is having authentic Indian taste but I was missing chilly garlic flavor in noodles. Therefore I am deducting 1 star. They also serves Thai curry which definitely I want to explore in future , but from goat curry I can say they have good Indian flavor senses , so I would recommend all Indian food lover explorers to try out this place . It’s good place in reasonable price with variety of options. Also the quantity of there food is very good.

Jersey City has got its fair share of Indian restaurants and Swadist has been on my list for a while. We ordered for pick up one Friday evening via their website. We ordered the mango lassi, chicken tikka masala, butter chicken, veggie samosa, and cheese naan. Mango lassis were a nice complement to the meal. They look more like Thai iced teas than mango lassis but don't let that fool you. Both the chicken dishes were great. They taste pretty similar to each other, but one is a bit creamier than the other one (my guess is that it's the butter chicken). The veggie samosa was good too, even though I don't like peas. Dipping this in either of the curry sauces was *chef's kiss*. But my favorite was the cheese naan (again dipping this in either sauce), which actually tasted better the next day. When we reheated it, the cheese was so gooey and melty - I wish I had gotten a shot of the cheese pull. All of this food was enough for a second meal, as we ended up only eating half and we were already stuffed. If you don't want leftovers, I would say that two people could definitely just share one dish + one naan, and you'd be good to go. Next time, I'd like to try their Indo-Chinese menu items, which I think is originally why I bookmarked it but I was really craving some tikka masala. May dine in next time so that I can try the food fresh.

An amazing restaurant for enjoying authentic Indian cuisine. Could do better and investment to make the ambiance more appealing. Ordered Malai Chicken Tikka and vegetable jalfreezi. Both the dishes were really good with perfect spice and flavors. Also, try their refreshing masala lemonade. And it’s BYOB. I would certainly recommend them.

We were back to Swadist but this time, we dined in. The restaurant is very nice and has planty of seats. We ordered Pepper Lamb for appetizer. The meat was very tender and the sauce was amazing. We then had Butter Chicken Desi Style and Goat Laas Maal for entrees which we paired with Garlic Naan. The Naans were super crispy and garlicky. They went well with every dishes. The chicken and goat were both very tender. They were cooked perfectly. We loved their sauces a lot, which we had to order another order of Naan to dip in the sauce. The Laas Maal is a must-have. It was spicy and flavorful. We have no negative feeling about the restaurant at all. However, we think the portions was getting smaller compared to when we ordered to take out. The host was very friendly and attentive. She checked up on us regularly and helped us to choose our foods. The ambience was warm and cozy.

I am a foodie and a pretty greta cook myself and have been disappointed by the taste of most Indian restaurants in NY and NJ since they don't come close to the authentic Indian food in India. Swadist was a surprise! Geetanjali, my server was very sweet and customised my meal just as I wanted! The chicekwn. bhuna was yummy! I loveee spice and generally most spicy food is pretty normal for me, but Geetanjali had my bhuna customised to my spice level! And boy oh boy was it good! Highly recommended!

Amazing food and quantity. One curry is good for 3 people. After a long time I ate good Indian food in Jersey City restaurant. I would recommend vegetarian biryani and malai kofta.

Tried this place for the first time based on great online reviews. Ordered Raj kachori and Malai kofta for takeout. Raj kachori didn’t even resemble a kachori, it was an empty puri with a side of mixed chutneys and filling. Malai kofta was ok, but it had mustard seeds giving it a daal taste. Not sure what is going on here, but neither item resemble the actual food it’s meant to be.

Great Indian restaurant find in Jersey City, out of the many options in JSQ. Food was fresh, delicious- one of the best tandoori chicken dishes I have come across. And surprisingly gulag jamun tasted fresh, not refrigerated. BYOB which always makes it a great option. Service was a bit slow on Friday evening, many of tables serviced before ours. (No one came for water, take our order, bill)

Amazing Indian restaurant. Great for a takeout but also a nice restaurant for dining in. The weekend lunch buffet is back. $19.99 for adults and $9.99 for under 10 years old. The lunch buffet selection is amazing: naan, roti, chili fish, veg byriani, shrimp masala and of course tandoori chicken among many more. The desert gulab jamun was the best I ever had. Absolutely delicious. I highly recommend Swadist

One of the best Indian Chinese and Thai continental food options in NJ town and food quality is amazing and highly recommended for anyone who is looking for best taste food.Ambience is too good and only problem we had noticed is restaurant is not spacious and parking is limited as street parking in Newark avenue. It’s better to order to go than dine in option. Prices were little higher than other food places in that area

Great food and large portions. The service was incredible, with our waiter taking every request keenly and helping out. The rasmalai and fried bread rabdi were delicious!

The chicken tandoori was good. The chicken lollipops were too sweet to my liking. The food here is halal

Very pathetic experience with this restaurant. We order at 8.15 pm & we got our order at 9.35pm. It took 1.15 hrs. Food quality is not good. We got all BURNT Naan also there is no salt in chicken kadai & Rice. As order got delayed that time Naan becomes cold. Really not happy with Swadist Restaurant food.
