Our go to breakfast spot!! Best around and so cozy. The staff are lovely human beings and neighborhood staples (Chef Francis for mayor!) - they treat everyone like friends and family. The food is always fresh and fantastic - I’ve tried everything on the menu and my only issue is choosing one (sometimes my husband and I share a third dish as an “appetizer” when we can’t decide). Best coffee, bacon, and grits around. Do yourself a favor and try their homemade hot sauce and a matcha latte - you won’t be sorry.

Very good food and affordable. Definitely recommend. Everyone was nice and greeted us warmly. I like the avocado toast. Green Tea Macha is awesome.

I stumbled across this little coffee shop today while staying in town for the week. my breakfast experience was excellent and exactly what I needed before my drive back to West Virginia. the food was prepared the way a good country breakfast should be!!! reminds me of home. great family vibe here too. classic 70s rock and soul music playing during my visit. friendly, energetic, informative staff. all the food was seasoned perfectly. I highly recommend samam! I'll be back.

This place is so good. The people here have to be some of the friendliest we have ever had at a restaurant. All while allowing you to enjoy your meal. They took time to make each customer feel special. It helps that the food was amazing. We enjoyed a variety of brunch items and each was spectacular. You can't go wrong at this place.

Great little breakfast spot. We have been here twice and loved it. Great coffee, nice people, prompt service and their vegan sausage is yum. A must try spot for sure. One thing to note is it’s usually packed during rush hour so plan accordingly

Love the two specials we got that day. The coffee was also great. Would recommend grabbing the table near the entrance because the ones in the back are very close there and may need to stare at the bathroom 😂

Great place for breakfast or brunch, and for all the time I've been in Jersey City , it was my first time visiting. The service was so good it made me think , why isn't everyone this nice ? I'm so used to people being rude I forgot that's not normal. The people that work there are super hospitable and you can tell they like working there. The food was delicious, start me off with a Nutella latte with Nutella on the rim. The French toast was perfect. Like a warm, soft and sweet hug after a couple hours of shoveling snow and your back hurt and your face is numb and your ears feel like they're gonna fall off🫠. Their tomato basil soup paired with grilled cheese ... Mmm say less . Can never go wrong with that 👌

wow at this place for sure. environment, food, location. we came early for breakfast and found it pleasantly quiet. the food was amazing the coffee was amazing and the server was cool and funny. we got the avocado toast which was super simple but blew me away. soft bread and very tasteful avocado. so thankful it wasn’t over-salted like most places. and it also wasn’t topped with 100 things. we also split the pimento. the eggs were made perfectly, and that sauce…. not sure what to write about the sauce. it should be it’s own menu item. it should just say: “the sauce”. i think that’s what bugs bunny drank in space jam before they won. he went to sam a.m. and ordered the pimento. try it. also the atmosphere was great. really tasteful yet somehow humorous decor. we enjoyed hanging out there and will for sure come back

Delicious sandwiches and good coffee and tea. I had the Atlantic and it was great. The staff is very friendly and full of recommendations. The matcha latte is not sweet at all, and you can add sweetener to your liking, which is perfect. Add a slice of bacon to the avocado toast. You will not regret it.

This establishment exudes an atmosphere of tranquility and relaxation. The level of service provided is exceptional, making it an ideal destination for breakfast. Additionally, the ambiance of this establishment creates a cozy and inviting environment. The staff members are known for their vibrant and amiable demeanor, ensuring a pleasant experience for all patrons. While it should be noted that the vegetarian options are somewhat limited, the quality, freshness, and delectability of the food remain unparalleled.

My first time here and this was easily the best dining experience AND chicken salad sandwich I have had. The portion size was much more than I had expected and the hot sauce I was given added that extra kick I love. The servers and the owner were all so kind and got to know me even beyond just being a patron. He even gave me the recipe! I definitely plan to return here as often as I can and I was so satisfied with my experience that I’m leaving a review which I never do 😂 God bless you guys!

We went here for brunch on Sunday. The place was packed so we had to wait. But it was quick, we only waited for 10 minutes to be seated. We were lucky as we had a table by the large window. The view was very nice and peaceful. We ordered Pastrami with Ruben, Daily Special grits (Shrimp), and the Weekender. The foods were good. We loved the Pastrami and Salad. For the drink, we had Honey Badger Latte, Salted Caramel Latte, and Hot Coffee with Oat Milk. The lattes and coffee were amazing. The Honey Badger Latte was flavorful. We totally recommend it. The service was great. Our server was very friendly and attentive. The ambiance was warm and cozy.

Perfect location, beautiful interiors (lots of Boho Inspo) and just wholesome breakkie. This is perfect breakfast/Brunch spot in JC and nope don't have to drive all the way. perfect spot although its v busy on weekends I promise it's worth it. Service is very nice, and they almost feel like you are home. Not to forget the awesome steaming hot coffee in the very funky coffee mugs

Nice local brunch spot with chill and laid back atmosphere. The owner is really cool and checks on you to see how everything is going from time to time and overall service is very friendly and welcoming. I got the avocado toast and my friend got the weekender; both dishes were well made and we left feeling very full :)

Took me ages to finally try sam a.m. and I wish I came sooner. I understand the hype -- good food with the most neighborhood-y vibe out of all the local brunch spots I've tried. Classic French Toast: Made with really good challah, and the compote is perfect. The Weekender: Their name for the standard 2 egg breakfast. Eggs were really good (advertised as from Lancaster), bacon is proper, potatoes were skillet style deep fried. Sourdough was really good. All more than reasonable prices and friendly staff. This place understands the importance of good bread. Can't wait to go back.

My favorite favorite favorite place. Nice servers, great breakfast sandwiches and French toast. Keep an eye out for the daily specials - their chicken verde soup is pretty good. My go to is the French toast with a side of bacon. The berry limeade is a hidden hit - I absolutely love it on a summer day.

I had the pleasure of dining at this charming spot, and I simply had to rave about my experience. From the moment I walked in the door, I was greeted with warm smiles and a genuine sense of hospitality from the staff. Each time I have visited here the food is always delicious and fresh. The best avocado toast I have ever had. Thank you for a memorable visit I hope to visit again soon!

Delicious ,fresh, and creative menu cooked with thought. We had the grits of the day and was featuring fried fish on top with Pico and an up egg. That left me wanting more. There chicken salad sami that was described to as best in the state. With chunky hand pulled chicken mixed so well on a crusty toasty bread. The tomato soup and side potatoes were delectable as well. Chef Sam is an interesting, funny guy as well and added to our experience. It was worth the wait for this cute place.

The queues outside sam a.m. on the weekends are there for a reason, it's an excellent breakfast/brunch choice and therefore very popular. We usually order ahead and takeout since we're close by. My go-to sandwich is 'The Classic', a pretty stellar BEC served on ciabatta. Other fave is the Pecan Sticky Bun if you're in the mood for something sweet. Espresso drinks are also pretty good. Lastly, the staff have always been super nice and extra friendly. They're a delight to interact with. So yeah, another five star review to add to their well deserved stack. Check'em out!!

I moved into the neighborhood in 2013 and have been a regular customer for 9 years now. This place is one of the best parts of the neighborhood; my wife and I love to come in on the weekends. Their menu is classic, consistent, well-executed and always delicious. Chef Francis (regaled by Mr. Green Genes, and previous appointment to the Duke of Prunes) will delight you with his charm and wit—be sure to try his *outstanding* Atlantic salmon sandwich, biscuits and gravy, and grits specials. His famous homemade hot sauce is fantastic. OK, now I’m hungry, I will see you there !!!!

We were looking for a breakfast spot on a snowy Friday morning and found this place. It was just what we needed – comforting warm savory breakfast. Loved the food! Simple yet perfectly made (and very fresh!). The best part about Sam is probably the staff. EXTREMELY nice & illuminating positive energy! Will definitely come back!

Always wanted to investigate what the buzz is all about. Have seen scores of people waiting outside to grab their order. So I ventured on a Tuesday morning for a cafe latte. The place was really cozy, narrow to be precise. Open kitchen besides the indoor seating. Had to squeeze myself in and wait for the order. Customer service was good. People were nice and prompt. Coffee is good! Loved their cafe latte. It was so good that I didn’t wanna spoil the taste by adding sugar. It’s your neighborhood coffee shop. Will return for brunch!!

Let me just start by saying that I have never written a negative review until today. I am a HUGE foodie and love trying new restaurants on a weekly basis. Like many of the restaurants I’ve gone to, I came here because of the reviews. First, I ordered a pumpkin spice latte and it had NO pumpkin flavor at all. I had my bf taste to make sure I wasn’t going crazy, he confirmed. Second, I ordered the Atlantic Salmon breakfast sandwich which was $15 (keep in mind I don’t mind spending money on food at all). The sandwich barely had salmon and worst of all, also had no flavor. I ordered the cheddar grits and no amount of salt could give this dish flavor. The only food item that was good were the roasted potatoes. Last, my bf ordered “the classic” which is a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich and he was so disappointed (it’s very hard to disappoint him when it comes to food lol).. Once again, no flavor and barely any egg/bacon. All this to say, we’ve never run out of a restaurant so quick. It was a $50 breakfast with nothing to show for it except disappointment. Positive: Roasted potatoes, friendly service, nice atmosphere

Had the BLT with egg, green goddess sandwich and the berry limeade. Everything perfect. Bread was fresh and moisty. The berry limeade was so good that I had to order a second one for my walk home. The owner is a really attentive and fun guy. Always there talking to everyone. Really happy to have a place like this in the neighborhood.

The food tasted yummy! Loved the service. The old man who works there is super nice! The atmosphere is great but a bit too small. They do have tables to sit outside but they don’t serve food outside. Loved their latte and special omelette.

Charming Neighborhood Cafe with Delicious Treats and Friendly Staff New to the neighbourhood, this cozy cafe has quickly became my absolute favorite spot to unwind and enjoy a delicious treat. The crew here is not only friendly but also incredibly efficient, creating a relaxed and welcoming vibe every time I visit. It's no wonder there's always a queue on weekends - this place is a gem! The ambiance is cozy and inviting, perfect for enjoying their mouthwatering offerings. I’ve been there at least 5 times now. Some of my favorites include the pistachio croissant, pecan sticky bun, BLT, and chicken salad sandwich - each one bursting with flavor and delicious. The pastries sell out quickly so be early if you want to try them! While I once had the garden goodness sandwich (take out) and found the bottom bread became soggy when I got home, I'm eager to give it another try in the cafe next time. Despite this small hiccup, the overall experience has been consistently delightful. What sets this cafe apart is not just the delicious food, but also the wonderful staff who always make my day brighter. I love interacting with them, and their coffee card loyalty program is a nice bonus - getting your 7th cup of coffee free is a fantastic perk! I highly recommend this charming cafe to anyone looking for a delightful dining experience and friendly atmosphere.

Went on a Sunday morning around 12, the wait for two people was around 25 mins. Got a pimento sandwich and a fruit salad. The sandwich was simple and nice. The staff is friendly, good vibes, good enough simple breakfast options, a bit tight space (good for max 4 people groups). A nice find overall.

It’s my favorite breakfast spot in NY and Jersey city area so far. It’s so feel good and the food is amazing. The owner/head chef makes the caramel himself for the salted caramel latte (I love it). The French toast is SO good too!! Just come here on a weekday and enjoy happy vibes whenever you need a pick me up! Weekends are pretty busy.

Nothing special on behalf of my food choice of eggs, sausage and potatoes w/ toast. I could’ve made the same thing at home but better. Potatoes needed seasoning. My blueberry lemonade was so good though. The highlight of my breakfast. My sister enjoyed her French Toast though. Got to try it and it was really good. So far it’s my sister’s fave French toast. She didn’t like her hot chocolate though. It needed more chocolate for sure. Friendly staff and cozy place.

The staff and chef are very friendly and will take good time to discuss/ans questions if you have any. I had an iced latte and garhen goddess sandwich - both were delicious! It will take time- ~20 mins to get a table on weekends during busy hours as it’s a small indoor space and they dont take online reservations. But it’s worth the wait. I will definitely visit again 😄

really pleasant atmosphere and excellent service! our waiter was super friendly and welcoming. the food was pretty fast coming out, but mediocre. my plate was lukewarm and didn't taste much like anything, and the scone we ordered wasn't heated up.

Hands down to the best staff! Extremely warm and friendly, and you feel welcomed and cared dine-in or take-out. We’ve ordered a variety of their food and nothing disappoints! It’s on the healthier side so make sure you check the photo before ordering since they have their own take on the food! I like the avocado toast, chicken n waffle and the omelette. Latte was also high quality. Highly recommended!

SamAM is the one of the best brunch restaurant in JC! Every food that I have ordered in here is amazing🧡 The beautiful flowers on the tables make me happy while eating. And they are really kind and friendly.

Honestly, best food and experience ever! I am a big food lover, and have tried so many great restaurants in my life. But SAM AM is the best. The owner is so cool and down to earth. He checked on us so many times and even gave us so many tips when making some french toast at home (😋😋) . Hands down to the best brunch place in Jersey!

  • 4/5 KarieAnn Z. 2 years ago on Google
Cute place to grab breakfast but if you're craving pastry get there early. The weekday commuter crowd cleaned them out! As a former barista, the Honey Badger was delightful! Perfect balance of espresso, froth, and sweetness from local honey with a burst of bee pollen.

  • 5/5 Mary M. 2 years ago on Google
I have heard about Sam am for some time. I tried to get to the Pine St. address, but by the time I got around to that it had closed, and Downtown is just not that user-friendly. Especially since the city put up that Chinese Wall on Grove Street that essentially says "Outsiders NOT Welcome!" But today we made the effort, and we're glad we did. It's an interesting breakfast and brunch menu. Everything is thoughtfully conceived and carefully prepared. Food matters here, and it shows -- from the over-sized coffee mug that keeps your brew hot through the meal to the flavor-nuanced hot sauce. And, it's in a charming neighborhood that's very pleasant to walk in. Try it. You'll be glad you did.

We had avocado toast and French toast, both of which were very good. The salted caramel latte was fantastic. If you want to be more full, the sandwiches looked more filling than what we got. The wait staff have literally fine-dining levels of attentiveness and are super kind. We were also offered a free coffee and pastry when we left - super thoughtful!

Horrible experience ruining our Sunday morning. We ordered side sausage but was missing from our take-out order and nobody was answering our calls for 20 minutes. Belgian waffle tasted like raw flour and had one corner missing.
