I’m sorry, the fish is worth $22.99?? Fish that’s as big a my hand? I’m 5’ for reference. The calamari I ordered was $17.99 and they gave me such a small amount. I ordered from Ubereats after looking through pictures from reviews and the portions looked reasonable from the pictures. My total was $47.24 but what I got wasn’t worth that.

Absolute favorite restaurant in New Jersey. I am transported back home to Alexandria, Egypt. You must order the grilled stripped bass,eggplant, jumbo shrimp and rice pudding. Please understand that the fish isn’t burnt, it just is cooked with a special seasoning that blackens the skin. Let us not be ignorant like a few of these reviewers…

This is definitely a hole in the wall restaurant, so people who put negative reviews of the restaurant looking a certain way are not focusing on what matters most....the food! My family and I enjoyed our experience and the food tremendously. We ordered the branzino fish, seafood soups, rice with shrimp, friend calamari and eggplant. Every dish was authentic and reminded us of some of our favorite seafood restaurants in Egypt. The gentleman and woman who were cooking and waiting on us were very nice and attentive. Our order came out fresh and hot, right off the stove! If you are looking for authentic Egyptian style seafood, this is your place!

Amazingly delicious seafood! We had the grilled branzini and shrimp in tomato, onion, and garlic. Their tahina is something else! Simple in preparation, but refined in execution in this unassuming restaurant on the west side of Jersey City. The owners are fantastic and friendly people. We had a great conversation about their restaurant, food, and though I tried to learn as much as I can about his techniques and seasonings, there are certainly secrets that he cannot share. That just means I'll have to make the trek back there from Brooklyn!

Amazing Alexandria Egypt style seafood. The service is outstanding and the food is cooked to perfection. It's truly authentic and super fresh and flavorful. The fish is so tender and juicy it almost melt in your mouth. It all Tates like home. Like it was fresh caught from the Mediterranean.

Terrible experience by all means. Place was dirty. Staff not wearing masks. Food had tons of spices on the outer layer which was burnt. The fish was not cleaned from the inside before cooking. Extra charged. Ordered 3 special meals ( one tilapia listed for 20$, two brazini each should be 23$, 3 soda cans each listed 2$, I was charged 90$). Good reviewes must be from family or friends. Too long waiting time. I would never go back again. NEVER.

Delishlish! I was in town for a wedding and we brought a huge party here, including vegans and discerning fish connoisseurs. They handled our massive order quickly and flawlessly, and everything was amazing. I especially recommend the mes2a3a for any vegans out there.

This place was a pleasant surprise. Egyptian seafood restaurant which serves food from the Alexandria region. Few women chefs and the man who owns this not very fancy place do a splendid job in serving some authentic food. We ordered the grilled Branzini fish with rice , salad and tahini on the side. The fish is large and absolutely worth the prize which is a lil on the higher side. The tahini is one of the best I've consumed so far. The hummus and Pita bread were also very fresh and of superior quality. A tad disappointing was the fried shrimp sandwich which didn't match up to the other dishes. We took home the rice pudding which was also very good. A must visit place for some good fish, tahini and hummus

The fish and the way the shafts roast or pan fry. It is phenomenal. The fish I've tried or the orata & the branzino. They're both cook well and the flesh is still tender and juicy. Well Seasoned dishes that taste very fresh. I enjoyed rice and sauteed eggplant as my sides. Like biting into. It feels like home. The restaurant itself is no frills. The prices are reasonable compared to the quality of food being created in the kitchen.

I ordered thru Grubhub. I've had yellow rice,grilled shrimpfloundersandwich rasta pasta with house salad whiting fish,catfish. The rasta pasta is too hot for me they use jerk seasoning. Carrot cake is fresh. I would order again but, just one thing, they do not send condiments and I even asked for it when I ordered.

Samakmak is an excellent authentic Egyptian seafood restaurant. The quality and quantity of food is amazing and always fresh. I’ve been there with family about three times already and we always love it. My favorite part is how homemade everything is, and how the women cook it with love and care every time. You wouldn’t want to sit there if you’re used to “Fine” dining but the quality and taste of food makes up for it, for sure. I would definitely recommend it at its given price point, and is definitely a place to try!

I’m in love with the grilled shrimp here. I order a fried fish, jumbo grilled shrimp, and the delicious side of eggplant for pickup. The food was very flavorful, fresh and delicious. Not exaggerating if I say it’s the best seafood in the area. I will definitely come here again next time I visit New Jersey. I forgot to mention the great portion sizes and the excellent service and packaging. 10/10

You don’t go there for the decor, you come to Samakmak for one of the best culinary experiences to be had on either side of the Hudson. Their seafood soup was exquisite and sumptuous, fantastic whole striped bass, delicious eggplant… We loved the fragrant rice with shrimp. It’s a low key family establishment, but man do they know how to cook!

FIVE STARS!!! Consistently great food. So much flavor. I’ve had fish fried and grilled, but my fav is the grilled. No matter what you get, you’ll be happy!

This is my first order from this place, i ordered a branzini with rice and salad the fish was fresh and cooked to perfection, the rice was flavorful and the salad was great.

You don’t come here for the atmosphere, You come here for the Food, and the food itself is absolutely top notch. The grilled shrimp and shrimp rice are especially absolutely fantastic. You can tell that it’s cooked with love and care and feels like a homemade meal. The staff was very nice and polite as well as quick with serving our food. That being said. I do think that the overall condition of the restaurant should be better kept. The air was a bit cold and it felt a bit lacking in terms of cleanliness.
