This is a renovated building, not a purpose built hotel. That means paper thin walls and doors. Even if someone was just having normal conversation you could hear every detail of it. Every time someone turned their water on it was like a raging river in the walls. Every door opening echoed down the halls like a rock in a canyon. Beds are firm but the linens are nice. Room amenities are average or perhaps a bit below for the hotel rating. For me this hotel fails in its execution of a hotels primary purpose: to provide a place for you have a good night sleep while away from home. Too much noise pollution. That being said the gallery was very nice. The staff was excellent and very friendly. The restaurant had good food. The rooms were clean.

This is a beautiful place to stay. I loved leisurely looking at all the Art galleries while staying here. The room was also beautiful, and of course clean and had everything we needed. Also the absolute best hotel coffee I’ve ever had.

FYI if you have kids: stay to the left or to the right after you walk through the front entry and the kids will love the exhibits there. Especially the interactive art and the puffing smoke piece. But, if you go down the stairs, some of the art has nudity. If you have kids, and your not prepared for it, it can cause a conversation. Otherwise…this is a fantastic and free experience I’m the heart of Louisville.

The hotel is beautiful, and the room was really nice. However, the staff did not appear to want to be helpful. We asked about breakfast locations and we were given very vague answers with an attitude that seemed like we were bothering them. I also asked for my receipt to be emailed to me after being given that as an option and it was never emailed to me. We tried to get breakfast in the restaurant and again, it felt like we were bothering the staff.

If you like, art stay here. If you value a goodnight sleep, book elsewhere! Two out of three nights we stayed there the had events in the gallery with live bands and they played till 11 PM and the noise reverberates through the hotel, we were on the top floor and could hear the band very well. Unfortunately we had to get up at 6 AM. Nice hotel, nice rooms but if they have an event scheduled with a band sleeping can be challenging.

Disclaimer: I did not stay in the rooms rather I visited the art exhibit. From a visitor from mid-west Kansas, it was a sort of fascinating, yet demeaning experience overall. But that's for the good. The artwork displayed were so intricate that at first-glance you could not decipher any meaning nor derive any pleasure looking at them. This exhibit is not to showcase art to please your senses, rather the art is there to showcase the artist's feelings about the world. If this doesn't sound like your art exhibit that is perfectly fine, art is not supposed to please everyone. I struggled for a long time to decipher what I should extract from each art piece and I frequently had to consult the descriptions located besides each piece. I felt hopeless at times but it's never wrong to ask for help, and heck if it's just some black and white paint, that can be art in itself. My only grip is that the merch at the exhibit was very pricey but very understandable. I wish they just had mini red penguins so I can bring one to my sister for a price that doesn't empty my wallet.

This hotel is beautiful however if you need an accessible hotel room I would avoid this hotel at all costs. My husband was in a horrible accident that left him paralyzed and this was our first trip since the accident. I called ahead to make sure the hotel room was accessible and we were very frustrated when we arrived and there was no walk in shower and just a double bed. I could hardly even push his wheelchair over the carpet. We paid almost $500 for one night and we did not sleep at all. I know most people do not need an accessible hotel so this probably does not matter but it was a terrible experience for someone who is handicapped.

All of the gentleman working valet/entry were exceptionally well mannered, hospitable, polite and accommodating. I expected great things from 21C given the level of service these gentleman provided only to be woefully let down once I interacted with the individuals at the reception desk. The bed linens, larger bath towels, toiletries, and overall aesthetic of the lobby/"gallery" were exceptional. Location is ideal for anyone staying in Louisville with obvious ease of access to downtown as well as convenient access to 264, 64, and 65. However, Gone are the days of above and beyond customer service, especially at hotels, especially at this 21C. The individuals at the reception desk have an attitude of indifference and haughtiness. We decided to stay at this 21C as we were attending our good friends wedding in Louisville and the location is really great and was close to all of the venues we would need to get to. I had called ahead of time to ask if we would be able to secure a few extra chairs for the room as the groom and his father and brother would be getting ready in our room prior to the ceremony. I was told that it was too far in advance to facilitate such requests and I would need to call closer to the date of stay, which made sense and was fine. When we checked in, the receptionist was cold. Basically think of any antonym of hospitality that one could find in a thesaurus and you would be able to get a good idea of the overall attitude of almost all of the individuals working behind the receptionist desk. Exceptions to this were the one individual who helped my husband secure the needed two additional chairs for our room on Saturday and the phone customer service lady who helped me get a hold of the front desk when we had to call on Monday as to lost items (after being hung up on twice after being connected through to the front desk). Notwithstanding the terrible attitudes and general disdain for hospitality exhibited at reception, perhaps the biggest issue with our stay was the absolutely paper thin walls in the rooms. Over the weekend we were able to hear everything, and I mean everything from the adjacent rooms, including private telephone conversations, a crying infant, hair dryers, televisions and of course, sounds of intimacy. I would have expected that a hotel at this price point and at the level of "refined comfort" promised by the 21C brand, would have put more thought into noise cancelling of some kind.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at 21c Louisville and it was an exceptional experience from start to Finish. Jarid and Abigail at the front desk greeted me with warmth and professionalism, setting the tone for a fantastic stay. Their friendliness and attentiveness made me feel truly welcome. The property itself is impeccably maintained, thanks to the hard work of the engineering and maintenance team. Throughout my stay, I experienced no issues whatsoever, thanks to their dedication. The combination of excellent staff and a well-kept property made my stay at 21c Louisville truly five-star worthy. I can't wait to return!

This review is for the art work only. I did NOT stay or dine here. Walked in and was kindly greeted by the front desk staff that encouraged me to peruse the art work over a few floors. It was excellent, and I highly encourage you to stop in to see it! Handicap accessible, and you'll need about 1 hour. Enjoy

I had THE BEST stay here! Traveling for work is always a bit of a hassle with CC authorizations, but the front desk team did everything they could to accommodate us and make us comfortable while they worked it out. The rooms were beautiful and spacious, the art was so modern and fun! I had a personal rapport with the red penguins throughout the hotel and loved that they were moveable! The service was the icing on the cake though! So much hospitality from the staff here, that I made sure to write this review before I left. The entire front desk team was kind and welcoming, Alexa at Proof on Main took great care of us every morning. I just can’t thank them enough!

Upon entry, you know it’s a whole vibe. The hotel is quite proximal to the Bourbon 🥃 district so it feels quite lively. Art everywhere, featuring many local artists from in and around lovely Louisville, Kentucky. Check-in in this vibey hotel lobby was seamless with very friendly receptionists, though the valet only parking is a bit expensive. The journey to the rooms is entertaining, as art is featured in all areas of the hotel (even elevator), the room itself was quite beautiful and very spacious — facing inwards to the art work below. The bathroom is complete with aromatic shower products (shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotions, hand soap), with ample other products including a rubber ducky, vanity kit, and plush robes! The room had a mini bar and complimentary coffee (though the machine could wake the dead). The complimentary water bottles are refillable and eco-friendly - a good standard for hotels to take initiative on sustainability. Though the room did not have a desk for an office space, comfortable seating was abundant. The conveniently located bar downstairs offers 125+ bourbon selects and people from outside the hotel pass in and out to look at the art within, which makes for quite a community experience. Dinner is quite expensive, but the food was pretty good. Excellent service. Downstairs, there is a wide variety of culturally diverse art of multiple medias (smoke sculptures, projection video, traditional fine), which was a delight to walk around after dinner. *Our only negative comment was that there was a sad baby next to us, and we were kept awake as the walls are not sound proof.

Yet another good stay in 21C Museum Hotel.. Really good 1 night stay on business. Not surprising, considering my other 21C stays (Nashville, Chicago, KS, Raleigh). Well located, thought provoking art installations were expected, a given, as I would say. Service was cheerful and friendly. Nice and cool restaurant and bar Proof on Main with very decent breakfast, good meal in the bar, and trendy cocktails and wines. Heavy on Bourbon, as expected. Rooms were clean and spacious with plenty of amenities. Appreciated Accor Platinum upgrade too. All in all quite a good stay, perhaps without a wow factor, but no complaints! Would stay again.

Pros: Artsy. Cool. Fab. Hip. The rooms fund the free art gallery in the lower levels. Bronzed junk if you hunt for it, a long with many more Easter eggs. Cool room & use of space. Son left his switch and they notified me about an hour after checking out. Solid on the daytime staff. Cons: booked for 2 adults 1 child. Wasn't warned of the nudity. We're not prudes. Took it as a chance to teach beauty of the human body. A warning would have been nice. Was told the hotel connected to the science museum while booking the room via phone. It does not. BIGGEST CON: I didn't know where to get water. Call the desk around 10:30p and asked for bottles. Fell asleep. Checked door at 4am. No water. Took a bit to get the water after I made an angry phone call, got dressed, and made an angry visit to the front desk. Could have been handled worlds better. Night auditor is not a people person. Made me quite flustered about the water situation. For the luxurious price, I expect a luxurious experience. That experience was sub par. We plan to stay again in one of the themed rooms in a couple weeks. I'll bring my own water this time. Our next visit will be the make or break stay. Tldr; over priced, sub par. Almost a knock out but lacks in a few areas.

Nice, spacious rooms. Valet service needs work. Long wait or can't find. No breakfast before 8 am not good. How about 7 am? Dinner and service was excellent at Proof on Main. Your custom suite in basement is dark. Not a good upgrade.

I loved the uniqueness of this very clean, up-to-date hotel! The art was fabulous, and the bar had a cool vibe. It's in a great location for walking to local attractions, bars and restaurant. Would definitely recommend...

I went for the Silk Road concert downstairs, so I didn't see any rooms, but the areas I saw were pretty awesome, and the public areas are also an art gallery. The volunteers were very congenial and helpful. Parking was difficult.

From the moment I was welcomed into this stunning hotel, the staff ensured that I was welcomed and assisted throughout my stay. My room was lovely, the restaurant in the hotel was one of the finest I have ever had the pleasure of enjoying, and every facility and service was both beautiful and functional. And, in addition to all of that, one is surrounded by wonderful art, creatively curated and installed. While this was a business trip, I would love to return with my husband.

I had to fly to Louisville, KY for a work conference and was bummed that I couldn't bring certain toiletries due to the flight. Usually, when going to a hotel you have baby shampoo and conditioner bottles and a small bar of soap -- generally used for washing hands and body. With all of my hair, that generally doesn't cut it. I also have incredibly dry skin, so I was equally disappointed to find that I couldn't bring my body cream either. Luckily, when I walked into my room, not only was the room gorgeous -- I can honestly say that I have never stayed in a room this nice -- but they had regular-sized body wash, hand wash, lotion, shampoo, and conditioner. I was thrilled to know that I wouldn't have to visit the local store to pick up some that I would be able to finish during the few days that I was staying there. I really feel like this hotel thought of the little things as well as the bigger things (such as presentation), and this hotel definitely deserves 5 stars for going above and beyond. I'm not sure how many residents stay there that had to fly in, but I definitely think that this hotel has really set a new standard for others to follow. Now that I know how wonderful the experience can be, it'll certainly be difficult for the competition to keep up. Everyone else should definitely take notes.

Super friendly staff! Emily was very kind and helped us out a lot. The room was great and spacious and we slept well. Loved the museum and the bourbon nightcap. Lots of happenins at the bar! Would definitely recommend. Thanks 21C!

Bottom line, wouldn't return especially for the price. My advise is to visit the museum and restaurant and stay somewhere else. It's trying to be/do too much and fails. Desk help seemed disinterested and bothered to be helping us at check in and throughout our stay. Maybe if they were at a more formal reception desk befitting a high end hotel it would improve their attitude and the overall experience. Our rooms were facing "inside" and overlooked the event center roof. We were told only "premium" rooms have street views and there were only a few of those. Given the hotel is a "museum" the room is really disappointing, very underwhelming in terms of decor and design. More a Hilton or Staybridge Inn. Finally, there was a private event going on Saturday, the music was concert volume, it poured into the lobby, we hoped we wouldn't hear it on the 2nd floor but forget about it, you couldn't get away from it. The front desk said "we know, the good news is it ends at 11!" "We'll tell management, we always do." So clearly this is a problem. To book this event, knowing you are going to disturb guests tells you something about the management/ownership of this place. Many other better options and value in the city.

It was a very neat and clean hotel. The only thing I will say that was disappointing was that there was no where to grab a cold drink or a snack. Most hotels I've been to have a "gift shop" type store where you can buy a cold soda or water and grab maybe a frozen meal while your on the run. When I asked the front desk if there was a vending machine of some type they said "you can grab a red bull from the shelf over there". Which were on a shelf at room temperature. Room services were great. Neat and tidy after coming back from a day of sales meetings. The bed was extremely comfortable. The walls were 100% poorly soundproof as I could hear the people in the next room talking for hours late at night. Also maybe suggest putting bars of soap in the bathrooms instead of pump bottles in the showers. Loved the art hanging in the main lobby though!

This place is wonderful! Well appointed rooms, welcoming lobby, great restaurant! What makes this place stand out for me is the staff. You will not find a more welcoming, genuine, and friendly staff ANYWHERE!!!! Every staff member seems to love being there. The doormen are OUTSTANDING! We will absolutely be back to stay here again! If you stay elsewhere in downtown Louisville you are missing out! Also pet friendly for only $40! A lot of other hotels charge over $100 for a pet fee. This place is the best!

21c continues to offer thought provoking art installations, unique hotel experiences and a good place to hang for a bite cocktail or two. I've never encountered a rude employee or one not willing to assist. So grab a cocktail at Proof and walk around the galleries. Look up in the elevator and book the cyclone room. You won't regret it!

This hotel is the whole package. It is more of an experience than an overnight accommodation. From the art to the rooms to the staff. Just fantastic. Immediately fell in love with the red penguins. The location is perfect. The restaurant and bar a delight. When in Louisvillle you must stay here! Treat yourself to a night or two in the Cyclone room. You will not regret it! I'd give it a 100 stars if I could.

What a wonderful experience, I wish I would have written down the names of the staff to give them a shout out here. Our room was double booked but they really went above and beyond to make up for it. We also had some great conversation with the bar staff and management over a delicious brunch, as if we were all family. Will come back to Louisville just to stay here!

Awesome museum, loved seeing a museum dedicated to modern art that wasn’t just minimalism. Short but sweet, pretty small but the artwork is great! Lots of variety of different art styles. Would definitely visit again!

A great spot for a cozy time on a cold evening. We celebrated our anniversary with top notch apps and a couple world-class cocktails. Great bourbon list, and you're surrounded by amazing art!

I had such a wonderful stay here! From the kind valets that greeted us outside, our quick and friendly check-in with Emily, our room, dinner, and everything in-between! Our room (Luxury King) was very clean and spacious. Comfortable beds and great amenities. Our dinner at Proof was delicious and our server Austin was so sweet and knowledgeable. We had waters delivered by the sweetest night auditor as well! Just a flawless stay and wonderful location!

I highly recommend this hotel. The art museum, bar, and restaurant make this a special place to stay. It is conveniently located on Whiskey Row. You can walk to several distilleries and attractions. My room was larger than expected and very clean. The toiletries in the bathroom were a luxury brand and smelled great. I appreciated the water bottle and filling station for my day of touring. I felt safe traveling solo.

Truly felt like a home away from home. Thoughtful, friendly and pleasant staff. Arthur, the valet was awesome for service but also as a local sharing his knowledge to an out of towner. Front desk was prompt and courteous. The aesthetic overall was amazing. Proof on Main was a treat to dine in as well. Y'all know how to spoil a guest! Thank you again!

My review is only for the museum at this point because I haven't had the opportunity to stay there yet. My friends and I went to check out the museum and it was really good! Loved the exhibits and it was honestly larger than what we expected it would be.

We have visited 21c museum in the past and loved it so much we hit it again this trip. Art by nature is extremely subjective, that caveat in place our group of three thought the exhibits from our last visit were more powerful. This group seemed more amateur and overreaching in their messaging vs the power of the art itself. I still give 4 stars because you should check it out every few months to see what's next.

I don't know if I can thank you all enough. What an amazing team. A very special thank you to Emily, Arthur, & Sean for taking care of my mom. We left a really horrible situation and they ALL rolled out the red carpet for us. They even gave my puppy some extra special rubs and love. Bottom line: Best team I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. I'll see you guys again soon! <3

A friend recommended this quirky museum and it did not disappoint! Unique displays and thought-provoking explanations made for an interesting morning. We didn't stay at the hotel, but the downtown location would be ideal for anyone coming for business. We wish we could have staye longer and checked out more of the area.

We had an incredible time at this hotel. My daughter and I spent an entire week there and loved it. The staff was super friendly and exceptionally accommodating. The rooms were very cozy, the beds were extra comfy, the bathrooms were clean and had everything we needed (my daughter disagrees with me, but I think the lighting could be a bit brighter in the bathrooms). That is my only negative.

  • 5/5 Andrew H. 1 year ago on Google
Cool art exhibits everywhere with personal touches in the rooms. Plenty of space for three adults in our room. The hotel staff were responsive and kind. We truly enjoyed our stay and would recommend this hotel to any traveler.

We didn’t stay at the hotel, but online research was confirmed by the locals we interviewed, so had to check this out. It is a must see when you’re downtown. Picked up a couple old fashioned at the bar which we carried along our walk through the two story exhibit, free exhibit fyi. A perfectly sized art experience to break up your downtown saunter. Very glad we went!

Everything was perfect for our anniversary. We called and made our reservations and spa services at the same time and the experience was great. Our check in was smooth and couldn’t have asked for better. We received drink vouchers for free whiskey tasting at the bar and we got to our room and loved everything about it. There was a very nice note wishing us a happy anniversary waiting for us. The complementary water bottles and other amenities were worth the money. Our spa experience was great and our therapist were very good. The steam room and sauna were clean and felt great after our massages. We then got dinner and explored the art gallery. We will definitely be back again.
