I had to take the time to truly give this place an honest review. For a frequent traveller, this was absolutely one of the worst hotel experiences ever. This hotel is a complete scam and here are the reasons why: To start with, there is no staff at the front desk. You are only given a phone number to contact someone to check-in, check-out, questions, complaints etc. For someone who arrived after a long commute at midnight this was very unpleasant. The rooms are literally built in the basement with bad ventilation. During a hot summer visit to Montreal, expecting the AC to work is a necessity. When we contacted the concierge (again, through a phone call), the response was so rude and non-empathetic and they simply said, "There is nothing I can do. I'm on night shift". This was the exact response on both nights. This place is also EXTREMELY noisy with people banging their doors throughout the night. Even a hostel would be better. The bed linen was dirty and there is sporadic room service. You have to literally call them to request room service or fresh towels. There is no safety deposit box in the room. This hotel is insanely overpriced. The only pro is the location and nothing else. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone, I mean it .. anyone !! Your money is worth somewhere else with a decent service and empathetic staff.

Stayed at the POD hotel. Pods are layed out where there are about 15 pods in the size of a normal hotel room. The interior of the pod was decent. However, there is no sound proofing at all and there is no way to fully shut the pod door, you can only pull down a curtain. Unfortunately you can hear every conversation, snore, fart, chew, that your neighbors takes. There was a person snoring super loud, and we heard all of it all night. The washroom and showers were only shared. There was 1 bathroom and 1 shower for about 10-15 Pod style rooms. Not much service to speak of, however, that was expected of a more budget friendly hotel. Overall, I would stay here again if I needed cheap lodging.

The plus point being the location. The room is not as advertised. Basement bedroom resembling more of a hostel than a hotel. THERE IS NO CLIMATE CONTROL. It was 28 degrees in our room at 11pm. There is no one to check you in. We got lucky however we saw two sets of travellers sitting in the lobby area unable to reach anyone to check them in as they have no one in the lobby. It’s very loud, walls are thin and there is constant traffic at all times of the night. The TV didn’t work. There is no water temperature control. No parking. Wish they would have been honest on what we were getting into and the price was extreme for what was offered.

Stayed here during Canada day weekend. It was only one night but it was enough, I would never stay in this place were I to return to Montreal. First of all the hotel is in a basement, there is no real lobby or staff waiting for you to arrive, you have to call their phone number and wait for an undetermined amount of time (I waited for almost half an hour)for them to show up to do the check in and show you to your room. The rooms although somewhat modern are very lackluster and falsely advertised. The one I chose said it could accomodate up to 4 people but there was only one bed, I was there with my wife and kid, so I had to sleep on the floor using the bed comforter and bedspread. The noise travels from room to room as if everything was connected and there was no walls, I could hear people watching TV in other rooms and I could hear people and their private conversations as if they were talking out loud and with their doors open. The hotel is greatly located but it still has a long way to go if they want to make it work. Again, would never return.

The location is really nice but there is no staff when I arrived. However, man who received the phone was willing to help, which makes me feel better. There is only one bathroom and one toilet. Also, the room is quite safe but very hot during midnight. I felt hard to breathe so that I have no choice but to open the door.

I’m pretty sure the 5 star reviews are mostly fake. All from the same time and very basic. We chose this pod hotel to have more privacy than a hostel. This was a poor choice. The pods are so incredibly noisy with loud doors constantly banging throughout the night. Pods are equipped with TVs generating extra noise. On top of that, there were people talking all night (literally until we left at 6am). At 1am a group of girls started singing loudly… There was not one sign recommending guests to be quiet or setting quiet hours. The place was a bit sketchy in a basement although clean enough… except the vomit we found in the bathroom at 6am. Now for the check in… after a long flight and bus ride to the hotel we arrived at 9:30pm ready to drop our bags and go eat. We arrived to an empty entrance that seemed abandoned. I read in my confirmation that there is no after hours check in and was terrified that we would be left in the cold. I called the hotel and no answer… I called again and someone came up to assist us. Their automatic check in machine was broken and they didn’t even bother to write a note at the entrance or provide their contact information. Good thing I’m an experienced traveller otherwise I may not have found my way out of that mess. If you want a cheap stay in Montreal just book a hostel with better reviews. This place was a nightmare.

"Boutique Hotel" - this hotel felt like some European 2 to 3- star hotels I've stayed at that were functional but very much do-it-yourself with minimal staff. If you are expecting concierge service, find another hotel. Positives: - Great location in the Old Port. - Good access to the Montreal Metro. - Comfortable bed. - Room, toilet, shower and sinks are relatively recent (2-3 years old at most) in good working order. - Good blackout curtains meant it was nice and dark for sleeping. - WiFi was decently fast and free. Negatives: - You're in the basement of the building - so you get minimal natural light and no control of any windows. - No individual control of your room temperature - even though there's a thermostat in the room. My room was 25°C at 230AM and I could not turn on any air conditioning. I called the help number (since there isn't a front desk) and was told all the temperature control was centralized. Neutral: - Bathroom is behind a door with frosted glass off of the main room. It didn't bother me since I was travelling solo, but could be an issue for some travellers. Would I stay here again? Maybe, but there are other accommodations in this part of Montreal that I would consider first. This is a functional place to stay - so 3/5.

It was... fine? It was fine. I wouldn't call Hygie a Boutique hotel though. It's for sure a hostel. The check-in was odd, there's no one at the front desk. You call and someone arrives to let you in and they tell you (but don't write down) the codes to the main door, the door to the stairs, and your room door. I stayed in the Presidential King suite, which was enormous, but had some major and minor flaws. There were no bedside lamps, either the overhead light was on or it was off (and you couldn't turn it off from bed). There's a window directly into the bathroom and no door. I was alone so I didn't care, but if you were booking a large room for two, you're going to watch your partner on the toilet. It's also located in the basement, so there's nothing in the way of natural light. That said, the location of the hotel overall is very convenient as a tourist. I was able to walk to lots of great places; there was convenient parking and good restaurants, coffee shops, bars, and shopping close by. I don't think it was worth the $250 USD (roughly 320 CAD) a night I paid.

I stayed in the pods and it was decent. They are clean and mostly private although they have a pull down blind rather than a door. Definitely bring earplugs if you're a light sleeper. Mattress was essentially like sleeping on the ground in a sleeping bag. There is only one washroom and one shower for all the pods which is interesting. Shared kitchen is well-appointed though. Very little in the way of service.

If you like a dungeon style kind of place...... go there..... they actually shut of the ac at knight , 19 degrees during the day 24 during the knight. Really!!!!!! Hydro his cheap in quebec. Definitely will never go back. The place stinks. A hotel with black towels... I'm sure that they are washed with more expensive disinfectant vs bleach... very dirty windows in the room. they can't even clean the main entrance door windows which you can barely open.... you would think that they would take care of that. It is the main entrance! Anyways... don't waste your money there, you will regret it !!!!

Great stay at this place. I think this place get a lot of bad reviews because people don’t really know what they book. If you book a pod, you are going to share a small spot with others. It’s like a bed dorm, but a luxurious one as you get privacy and tv. Your experience will depend on who you are sharing with. So yes it’s not the best sound proofed hotel but if people are quiet, you won’t hear anything. We booked a room. It was very big and clean. We had what we needed. We needed to check out a little later, They arranged it. We needed to store our luggage for the day, after checking out, they arranged it. We needed to take a shower at the end of the day, They arranged it. (The commun shower had a lot of towel available, I have never seen that anywhere else) The staff on site were great ! Thank you again

It's a typical, casual pod hotel for low-budget travelers. My pod was actually not bad! the mattress and blanket were soft and clean. Also, there were lockers for the luggage. The counter at the lobby was empty in late night, but there was a kiosk that you could call the staff and check in. The check-in service was not good but understandable, considering the price level.

I give this hostel 2 stars just because it was big enough for 2 people (see picture) but the doors don't close completely half door remains open (see picture) and tbh if If I was alone I wouldn't have been able to sleep since I had a guy in the POD in front of me and didn't feel safe at all. There is only one shower but the place wasn't pack when I went so it was ok. Also and the most important thing is DO NOT PARK YOUR CAR ON THE STREET , no one told me that but my car's window was broken and the stole everything from my car (see picture) when I went to the police to make the report they told me is very common and that I was lucky they didn't steal my car. Google car robbery in Montreal Canada and you will see everything that's going on I hope this information help anyone going to Canada soon.

In all my life I have never been in an "underground hotel". On the site never mentioned...oh but the way our room are 12 feet under street level" claustrophobic need no apply" We arrived at 11 pm and no one was at the concierge (see pic) the hostess station in any given restaurants is bigger, the place looked abandoned, I called the tel number and this girl (very helpful) shows up from "under" the dungeon (like I referred to) and showed us to our room. I explained that I had no idea that the rooms were located "downstairs" and we preferred a room upstairs, she replied that all of the rooms are "underground", being that late we had no choice that to stay there. The noises from other adjacent rooms are inevitable. The walls are so thin that noises from other parts get everywhere. The bathroom has no privacy, we had to turn the shower on for a very long time before having hot water, water pressure sucks. The windows being on street level let all kinds of street noise in, cars, trucks and even people just walking by are very noticeable, ever watched an episode of Laverne & Shirley? But much worse. The next day I tried to located the same girl but was no way to be found, concierge people like any other respectable hotel are not existent. I called and spoke to someone asking to cancel my two remaining nights, refused and only refunded, maybe 1 night. So we stayed, reluctaning, and checked out, gladly the next day, dying to be in the day light again. I will never recommend this hotel to anyone, while location is nice this made it a not pleasant experience. The concierge you see on the website is not what you will find at the physical location. There is no one there, ever! Stay elsewhere.

I'm not one to give low reviews, however, this place is NOT A HOTEL, and is absolutely not a "boutique hotel", other than in size. The positive is that the price was OK, and the TV was nice, but having said that our "king suite" was located in the basement, despite the website showing tall, above-grade rooms. The building is made from cheap builders-grade materials, meaning sound bleeds between rooms and also from outside. If this place were listed as cheap basement units, then there would be no issue, but this was billed as a hotel, a proper hotel, a boutique hotel...not even close. I feel I've been duped, but have learned a valuable lesson.

Honestly.. you get what you get for the price. ** You walk into a basement** We experienced “power outages” quite frequently, the shared shower takes about 15 Minutes to just get to Hot Water. Which sucks. And there were literal crackheads in the pod next to us. Kept me up till 3 am. The Receptionist is nice but no where to be found after check in. They have patio doors in the kitchen which don’t even allow you to go outside. Very weird of a stay. I did enjoy the location, and the pods were very unique.

We stayed here for one night whilst visiting in Montreal. While we were worried about the reviews initially, we really needed somewhere cheap to stay and figured that people were overreacting. I would say some are over-the-top (perhaps more specific to the ‘pods’), whilst others are more justified. PROS: The check-in/check-out process was quite easy, as it was done with a touch screen machine at the entrance. We initially had an issue with our key card not working, but a member of staff who was around quickly helped us out. The room is spacious and visually quite nice, with good overhead lighting and even a ‘fireplace’ under the TV, which added a nice ambiance to the room. We actually found the bed to be pretty decent (queen-size), as the mattress and pillows were a good firmness. While the walls are thin, we didn’t experience any disturbance from noise during the night and slept soundly. CONS I would rate this hotel 3 stars if it weren’t for the BATHROOM!! It’s basically just a glass ‘section’ of the room with ‘frosted’ glass — except that the one thing that is not frosted is the toilet! The shower was AWFUL : it might as well have been a power washer because the water pressure was far too intense, and the button to switch to the main shower head wasn’t working, we had to use the hand-held one, which wouldn’t fit back into its positioning/ holder properly, so it essentially power washes the shower walls and floors (especially since there is only about half a wall of shower glass). Since the glass doors to the bathroom have a gap underneath them, that just allows water from the bathroom to spill out onto the main room! Make it make sense!! Perhaps the worst part is that the shower only knows one temperature: BOILING. It was pretty much unusable and honestly made our stay feel so uncomfortable as a result. Even though other aspects of the room were fine, this was such a lack of privacy and comfort that it really made it feel much worse, and I wish I could give a lower review just off this fact alone. All to say: if you are travelling solo and/or really just need a cheap room to have a place to sleep, this may be a fine option for you. However, if you are travelling as a couple/ in a group and would like privacy and a more comfortable stay, I would NOT recommend staying here. While the price point is appealing, it certainly did not feel worth it to us to stay here.

If you're looking for a decent place to sleep that's close to downtown, Hygie is great. However, I wouldn't exactly call it a boutique hotel, more like a boutique hostel. We stayed in the Presidential Suite, which was certainly a nice room, but the walls are thin and the bathroom doesn't have much for privacy from the rest of the room. If you're with a significant other, it will work, but again, privacy isn't the greatest. I did feel safe and fairly isolated from other guests, but with the thin walls you can hear when people are entering / leaving quite easily; the other guests were as quiet as is reasonably expected, so no issues there. Fortunately there's only a handful of other guests, unlike a large hotel. I can't speak highly enough of the location though; so close to a great section of Montreal! If you get a good deal, it's not the worst place to stay by any means as long as you don't expect the Ritz! The person working was friendly and helpful!

If you're looking for the experience of a great hotel, go somewhere else. But if you're looking for an affordable place to crash in Vieux Port, this was a good option. The hotel is located in a basement, so you won't have much natural light. The walls are paper thin so you'll hear everyone near you. But it's clean and the decor is nice.

If you want to know what the dystopian future holds, look no further than paying hundreds of dollars to sleep like your on the cruise ship from the 5th element. You can literally rent a full room for the same price across the street, down the street, up the street. Honestly, this whole place should cease to exist. That all said, no breakfast is included, there is a hard timing of 11am or a 50$ pre-authorized credit card fee is applied, the food is bad, coffee is worse, and the whole vibe is "pay us money to exist here". Its essentially a hostel for hipsters that want to pay even more to sleep in an even more crowded unprivate space.

Hygie Hotel is horrible! It's very picturesque from the outside. And the location is amazing - right in the heart of Old Montreal. But the advantages stop there. This "hotel" is only 1 level... in a basement. All windows are blocked, so you're unable to get any sunlight. The rooms are also cold, with a broken climate control. My room itself had fashionable decor. But much of the design was ill-considered. No place to hang your towel. Poorly placed electrical outlets... cold!! Things like that. I called to cancel my room. But got no answer. I had to pay for a separate hotel for my remaining 2 nights. Ie, I wasted money so you don't have to. Unless you don't mind a cold dark basement for a few nights, pass on this place.

Do not stay here! The bad reviews are TRUE. Let's start from the beginning, I arrived in Montreal earlier than expected (while it was raining) so I came straight to the hotel thinking there would be a receptionist to greet me I was willing to pay an extra fee for an early check in if possible but when I arrived the doors were locked, no receptionist was there and there was only a keypad to enter your code or dial the receptionist. I dialed the receptionist, no one answered I kept dialing for about 30 minutes before giving up and leaving. I came back at my check-in time and again no one answered and to top it off, my booking code didn't work so I called the receptionist and still no answer! Finally a couple was leaving the hotel so I was able to get in. Another hotel guest flagged down the only hotel worker, the cleaner. (THE RECEPTIONIST IS NOT ON SITE) The cleaner was rude AF for no reason. He asked for my card info (without giving a reason at first) and got upset when I asked why and then he was upset that I didn't speak French. Then when he was showing me around, he was rushing through it. Honestly he shouldn't even be doing all of this because he's not a receptionist! He's the cleaner but anyway, he takes me to the pods and it smells like corn chips... there wasn't any secure area to store luggage (I had to stuff my bag into the small lockers) he only showed me the coat room (that's where people stored their personal items) and I wasnt going to leave my stuff out. The pod beds do not have doors on them, they took off the bed doors and stuffed them in a closet (see photo)there is only a window shade, this is not safe especially if you're a solo traveling woman. fyi this bed area has 8-10 pod beds and it's a co-ed sleeping area. The bed was okay it's a full-sized bed my sheets were clean (thank goodness) and there's a TV inside too...however, the pod was dusty, very dusty, (please look at my photos) there was dirt caked into the metal track at the opening of the pod and the rubber lining on the pod opening was falling off. The shower room was nasty, you could tell they do not deep clean the shower or toilet area. Please look at the photos, there was soap scum and dirt caked into the shower floor, hair on the floor, the mirror had fluid stains on them, there was a full used towel bin inside the shower room as well. Also l need to emphasize that there is ONLY 1 shower for 8-10 pod beds...same goes for the toilet room. There is ONLY 1 toilet for 8-10 pod beds...the toilet room did not have any fresh hand towels or paper towels only 1 dirty rag, there wasn't any room spray, the vent was extremely dusty, the floor had pee on it...the sink had someones red lipstick stained on it, it was dirt caked on the floor beds and under the sink. It was nasty. I didn't go inside the kitchen but there is a kitchen inside as well with a fridge and a working stove. The hotel location is PRIME, a beautiful area! you're 5 minutes from the pier, 5 minutes from place de Jacques and 10 minutes from the Metro. LOAM is across the street and it's such a vibe with great food and they play Afrobeat and Socca! This is a hostel not a hotel and it's badly cleaned and maintenance is severely lacking. Do not come here. If you're booking on Booking .com, you will NOT be able to get a refund if you cancel. Please think twice. -------

Do not stay here. We called 10 times without a response. Our flight got delayed so we wanted to let them know we were going to get in late. When we finally arrived we couldn’t get in until another couple walked in. Then when we used the kiosk to check in (never could find any employees) they didn’t have our reservation. Even with the confirmation code and receipt we couldn’t get our room. They took our money though. The website is also very deceiving. This place is in a basement and looks sketchy.

This is more of a hostel, not a boutique hotel at all, pictures are not realistic, dirty bedsheets, room door code is shared with staff and not private, no reception, I booked and didn’t stay after raising issues, I was charged 200$ and the hotel tried to charge 100$ at a time several times, total scam, front door code is commonly share, not safe environment to stay, room wall are thin and not insulated, washroom is tiny and badly ventilated. I do not recommend.

ATTENTION ALL FEMALES - DO NOT TRAVEL HERE. My friend and I had booked this hotel a few months back for a weekend getaway. Upon arrival the receptionist did not check I.D to verify the booking and then proceeded to read the code for our room door aloud IN THE LOBBY WITH OTHER GUESTS WALKING THROUGH. The receptionist then walked us to our room where they read the code for the door off of a text thread. Mind you, the “locks” for the door were similar to those which you would put on a garage or some area you want loosely secured. There was no deadbolt on the door or even a security chain. My friend and I entered our room where we could hear guests speaking clear as day in the hall. Needless to say I am writing this review from the new hotel we had booked down the road.

Sadly, i can't give a better rating! I just stayed with my husband for his bday for a night out and the room and the hallway had a very strong humid smell, the room was ok, but under the bed was super dirty, the towels were not clean and smelled also humid and not properly dried. I had to sneak out and find a cleaning cart with "new" towels, to find out that they were also not well dried. I felt dirty right after the shower, also the shower had only cold water at night, only in the morning we did have hot water. After coming back in the room, the AC was not working, or wasn't cold enough but we couldn't adjust it to our liking, so even i did shower again, I was sweating while trying to sleep. The location is great, because all the restos, bar, entertainment, that was mainly the reason i booked the room. I can only recommend this place, for a maybe one night if there's nothing else, but just to sleep, but not for a longer stay. It's "boutique" name doesn't reflect what it offers. Needs a better care on the cleaning side, which is the MOST IMPORTANT, at least for me.

Disgusting rooming house, not a hotel. My bed was covered in long black hair when I checked in at 10 pm April 11/2023. There is no reception or front desk. The phone number provided ignored all messages and phone calls. Charged me $100 for a hostel room covered in hair that was not cleaned. refuse to address issues or respond. I had to call my credit card for fraud. Many random homeless people were going in and out and provided the code to anyone that needed in.

Having stayed at pod hotels in other countries, I kind of knew what to expect (not a 5 star experience, but just enough to get by and a comfortable sleep). But this was really not a good experience. It feels like nobody works here. Awkward check in procedure, no check out. The place is quite dirty, whether it is because of other guests who are inconsiderate or a lack of management… No towels for guests (other than “shared” towels in the washroom, who knows if or when they were cleaned), unkempt common washroom, the shower room had cold water, very dark and uncomfortable vibes, tiny lockers without locks, doesn’t smell very good. The pods are all in all comfortable but very poorly ventilated and feel suffocating, paper thin walls. The location and price is great, but otherwise my partner and I couldn’t wait to leave.

This review is for a room, and not the pods. We gave this hotel a 4.5 due to the no parking, we had to park at the hotel beside it for $25 per day, and carry our luggage 2 blocks away, other than that it was fantastic! Specially the friendly staff, accommodations provided for whatever we needed, the location was within walking distance to alot of sightseeing buildings, and the cleanliness of the room was amazing! It was very quiet, and yes it was underground like some of these reviews were saying; however, the design of the room was phenomenal, and very nice!

The pods are nice but they doesn't work well and it's hard to speak to someone if you need help. The two times I've been there the shower didn't work and the kitchen was dirty. It could be a nice place but it feels like no one is working there and no one cares if you enjoy or not your stay.

The room was standard, neat and clean. Effortless check-in and keyless entry was handy. It is in a fabulous location with bus connection 10 steps from the door but you are right in old Town and walking distance from most attractions. Loved our stay here!

A truly horrendous experience. Whatever you do, DO NOT STAY HERE. It is not a boutique hotel. It’s dirty rooms in a creepy basement. No receptionist to greet you or check you in. There were ants all over the floor, dead ants in the bed and hair all over the sheets and pillows. No lock on the inside of the door!!! We had to shove a chair against the door to feel safe in our room. You’re unable to adjust the temperature, it is freezing cold during the day and super hot at night. The walls were unbelievably thin. When we called to complain about the state of our room, the manager was unapologetic and unaccommodating. There is no secure spot to store luggage in between check out time and flight time. Great location, not worth it.

This “hotel” is a total scam that you should avoid at all cost. - The pods don’t close and you’re left with a curtain to have “some sort” of privacy. Because of that, it’s also extremely loud in the dorm. - There’s only one (dirty) bathroom and one (even dirtier) toilet for the entire floor (not the entire dorm. The ENTIRE floor). - The common area is absolutely depressing (not to say creepy), with amenities falling to pieces. It looks like a bunker in which they installed flashing leds, with a “lovely” view on a dirty yard being renovated. - The lockers are tiny, they don’t have a lock and - big surprise - do not match the amount of pods in the room. We couldn’t even have one for ourselves. - The place is accessible to anyone, and it is totally unsafe to leave your luggage there. No keys, no cards, no locks, just a code accessible to anyone in the building. - Oh, and the best part? It is extremely expensive. I wont even get started on the “staff”. Long story short, go there if you want to feel like you’re stuck in an episode of Squid Game and if you have money to throw out the window. We left the second night. This building should be closed. You’ll be WAY better off at a cheap hostel, do not finance this hole of a place.

Don’t stay here! My wife and I arrived at 3:25pm to check In (check in was 3pm) but the room wasn’t ready. We were asked to wait 10 minutes followed by arguing voices down the hall. We were the only guests. We were shown the room after around 15minutes. The sheets blankets and pillows were all dirty. The room smelled like bleach and had a damp musty smell. These rooms look good in a video with low resolution however they are very dirty upon closer inspection. Nobody answers the phone. My wife had a rash all over her face and neck and that was because she hugged me and cried that she didn’t want to stay here. I had lied down on the bed with my cloths on prior. In any case heads up this place is not prepared for accommodation. We left and called it a loss could not stay the night
