This medical practice is just terrible. Some of the doctors are helpful, but my assigned GP is dismissive, ineffectual, interrupts constantly (when she has just asked for details) and then talks down to you like a child (I'm late thirties). The older reception staff are rude, unhelpful and accusatory when you ask a question. It is virtually impossible to book an appointment and forgot getting a follow-up for any chronic health conditions. I spent three weeks calling at 8am, daily, for 3 hours straight every day before I managed to secure a slot. You also currently have to be triaged before booking in face-to-face, so have to give sensitive medical details to reception staff over the phone first. You could easily blame all this on the Covid-19 pandemic, but the truth was this surgery was already dire when I registered in 2019. Not much has changed or improved since. I tried signing up to their patient improvement groups, but they ignored my application form. Clearly, they are not listening to their patients.

I have been hung up on multiple times when ringing for an appointment. Get put back at the end of the queue when I ring again only to be disconnected again when I reach number 1. They must do this on purpose to not take calls - from reading other reviews, it seems other people have had the same issue. Staff are no better in person, extremely rude and dismissive.

You have to constantly chase them. The quickest way to get an appointment it is to go to the GP and desperately ask for one. And even so, I had one phone call appointment booked between 8:00 - 12:00 ( and I made sure to be off until 12:30 just in case) and they rang me at 13:15? I tried again over the phone, waited for over 40 min. and when they answered they hang up on me.

Appointments are made quickly, especially if e consults are sent in via the website. Nurses were really nice and made me feel at ease for smear test.

I had two appointments scheduled that were canceled. They just told me to reschedule myself, but when I call I just get thrown out of the connection, and the online system has been down for weeks! Also during the winter break I tried to get an appointment, but they were closed the longest time ever so I had to get help from 111 over and over again for any sort of prescription. I am changing GP because I need an urgent doctor's note.

It is extremely difficult to get through to a receptionist at this GP surgery, i put aside at least an hour when I call as I know I’ll be on hold that long, appointments are very hard to come by too. However the doctors and nurses here have always been great with me. The reason that this GP surgery is so overrun is because every bloody student from Newcastle and Northumbria universities register with this practice and take up all the spaces so locals can’t be seen! It really really annoys me, the universities should have on site doctors for the students and this surgery should not allow that many people to register. It’s helping no one.

Horrible horrible experience. After 50minutes wait the receptionist just told me to call again at 8am next Monday even when I said it was a time-sensitive matter. Couldn't never get an appointment even when I call at 8 everyday. Even the online consultation form needs to be filled at 8am in the morning.

The worst receptionist in the world reside here. I was in line for 45mins to be hanged up at the end, this happened three times. I was in phone for 3hours. It was a female receptionist. Please don’t bother working for public services if you plan to do your job like this. Completely unacceptable and in emergency cases life threatening because of someone’s action.

I've been with them since I was a student 6 years ago and overall have had a good experience with them. I know it got worse during the pandemic, but I've just rung them now with a meds issue that has caused me some serious stress and they sorted it in under 5 minutes on the phone (including wait time 😉) so thank you to the lovely reception staff there ❤️

Dr Burgin is an amazing GP I would rate him 5 stars, however the practice doesn’t deserve any I was registered with saville medical since 2021 and I was using them to get my prescription when suddenly they removed me from their files without any warning (because I moved to Sunderlanda year ago) and I couldn’t get my prescription any more. I had to cry to nhs on the phone to get my ssri prescription for that month. And now I’m looking for another good gp which is really tough. I was actually happy to have found a gp that actually cares and it’s so unfortunate this has happened.

First time I've called to see a doctor in over 3 years. 40 minute wait as was 12th in the queue. Can only book an appointment for current day and all appointments are gone. 'It's been like that for a while.' . How long did it take to tell the other 12 people in front of me in the queue the same thing? Appalling, making everyone that needs an appointment call at 8am every day until they can be seen. No wonder the current rating on google is 2.1/5.

Every time we try to ring for an appointment they hang up and never give us one. My grandad is now dead and if they had have actually answered he could have lived. Plus they actually ring the day after he passed wanting to speak to him! Those doctors are pathetic. I would rate it 0 stars but it isn't possible

I tried to book for a vitamin blood test and they called me but for some reason the call was ended so i called back immediately and had to wait 13min until i got bored and closed the phone. Today” 28/04/2022” i tried to call at 6am and they said they will be open from 8am so i called around 12pm first thing the calls cancelled immediately and I thought because it is the lunch time then called around 1pm and they said they will not accept calls until Friday!!! Not to mention how many emails i sent without getting anything back! Their working hours is so weird in google maps it says they close at 5pm and on the automatic reply when calling they say the same about timings!! So why closing the calls from patients?

I have tried ring G. P to book appointment. Never attended calls by reception. The world worst receptionist and never give proper response. I went to G. P to book appointment and they said their are no appointments I ask them to next day or any day in the week . They said to ring the reception but never receptionist answer the call and the next day we went to appoint they said same no appointment. And also i have requested the G. P to give letter for my daughter visa application as proof of address the letter is only Demographic information (they said to email).and after I went their I have asked them. They asked my password to give , I have shown the email also. They said to bring passport. The receptionist don't have manners as well but not all the receptionist some are good in saville. I want to go any more to that useless G. P so I am transferring my G. P. I can only do one thing pray the god to change this people in this G. P. Who can't give proper service who are in need .

I have been coming to Saville Medical for 40 plus years and they are simply the best around. My recent needs were met and it was surprisingly easy to make an appointment. Can not praise the manner and competency of Dr Burgen who put my concerns at ease. To the new generation of Drs and patients , Good Luck ! Mr J T Clark

A big thankyou to Janet who apparently works upstairs and to the lady who is the receptionist manager. I can't recall her name. But thanks for going above and beyond for helping me retrieve my vaccination records from my previous GP.

People constantly shame this GP, but from my experience the receptionists are incredibly helpful, having proper pharmacists managing prescriptions makes a huge difference to those with repeat medication, as there were no problems whatsoever. However, I never actually visited the Doctors surgery, and the one time I did they were booked up and sent me to a doctors that wasn't even open, so I'm only giving it 4 star, but probably would've been 3.5.

Absolutely lovely receptionists, I wish I got their names! They are very patient and really listen to your needs, making sure to facilitate them. Obviously wait times can be long due to this being a student practice, however that is to be expected unfortunately when you think about how many people will be trying to get in touch, you just need to be patient. One of the nurses who takes blood is absolutely brilliant at her job, I didn’t feel a thing even when she had to try both arms, and she was so nice and quick. On the other hand, there is one GP which I DO NOT recommend, she is extremely rude and dismissive of a problem which I was already diagnosed with, saying that I do not have it even after tests ruled out that I do, denying me any further treatment. Her name is Dr Gihan Petangoda. That’s the only reason for the lost star. Overall a friendly practice where your problems are sorted very quickly if you get the right doctor!

Trying to ring for emergency contraception and even the automated prescription line is being cancelled immediately. Seriously? Last time I had to book an appointment it took 39 cancelled calls before I even get in a 30 minute waiting line.

The worst GP practice I have ever had the experience of dealing with. I have regularly rang the surgery to get appointments to see a doctor but the receptionists are always ‘unable to book one’ and I am told to ring them next week when the new spaces become available or ring back the next day to try to book an appointment with a nurse. Even once they have been told it is urgent and cannot wait (and the reason why it is urgent), I am told there is nothing they can do and they apparently cannot book a week or weeks or a month etc in advance. It is absolutely ridiculous… not to mention the fact that you have to wait between 45minutes and an hour to actually get through to somebody on the phone and they have no working online booking system.

Really difficult to get through or get an appointment. You always have to chase up results/prescriptions because they forget about you. My most recent call took 50 minutes to get through. Drs, nurses and receptionists are all nice but they just have way too much work and too many patients. Feel really bad for the people who work there - be nice to them, it’s not their fault!

On a Friday evening, the practice cancelled my Monday appointment I was waiting for for 2 weeks. It’s the following week and I’m trying to ring them every day before work but with no success so far (it’s Thursday). Today I started ringing at 8:00 to try to get in the queue as early as possible. Until 8:05 it kept saying that the surgery was closed, then 5 seconds later I was 7th in the queue. I was on the phone for about 30 minutes and when my turn finally came the call was cut off. Scenarios like this one are not an exception but rather the norm, at least from my and my husband’s experience. We’ve been with this practice for 4 years and it’s rare when you see a gp and when you do they’re rushed and don’t seem interested to treat the cause but they’ll give you medication to temporarily help with symptoms. It’s a surgery that makes it really difficult to look after your health.

Awful, awful practise. The reception/admin team often require several weeks to follow through with simple requests. I had to call 3 or 4 times over a period of two weeks just to make sure my problem was communicated to a GP. I can't speak to the professionalism of other GPs, but mine wasn't particularly helpful.

Takes about an hour to even get to talk to reception most days. They say if you want an appointment then you have to ring at 8 am and even then you struggle to get one. Previous times I’ve gone doctors done nothing to help and I would advise to stay firmly away.

Been with this gp practice for 6 years and was deregistered without any warning or correspondence. The only reason i found out was because i ordered my medication and the day it was due received a text to say i am no longer apart of the practice. The reason being that i am ‘now registered with another practice’ which isnt the case!! Because of this i was left 4 days without any of my daily medications or without any gp surgery to help me, resulting in hours on the phone to nhs 111 to try get an emergency prescription. As a full time nhs dentist I found this appalling, having to waste time in my busy day when i should have been seeing patients. Not everyone has hours to spend every day doing things like this. I hope you don't deregister elderly people without any notice! Some notice would be nice in future so people aren't left in pain/ difficulty trying to find a new gp or even worse an emergency prescription to get out of pain! Im lucky I'm younger and have support. Terrible treatment, disappointing altogether
