Quite a nice place to eat burgers. Service was great as well as the food. I enjoyed the food and the atmosphere was amazing as well.

Found Il Était Un Square after doing some research into where to eat in Paris. Yeah, I also questioned why I would go to a burger place of all places when there are so many different food options. Well, after coming here, I am quite glad I did! I was pretty impressed at the burger and tartare options when looking into what I wanted. Hell, a place that has seven different tartares can't be sneezed at. Opted for The Italian for tartare, and The Napoleon 1er and The Roman for the burgers. The Aubrac beef they use it is something else. That tartare was some of the tastiest and juiciest I've had. And they do not skimp on it at all, they give you a huge stack of thick beef. Oh it was so worth it. And it carried over on the burgers as well. Aubrac beef went so well with the burgers. Well seasoned and perfectly cooked! Perhaps we were being a little too aggressive going for double patties rather than single patties, but hey I was on vacation. I had to stop eating the fries (which comes with every entrée) simply because I had no stomach left. Staff here are extremely friendly. They all speak perfect English, which obviously helped us out. As soon as we walked in here, they were welcoming as if we were locals that came here all the time. Made us feel very relaxed. Just great people that are happy to run their local neighborhood restaurant. AlthoughIl Était Un Square is pretty far from the usual tourist attractions, I regret nothing about taking the time to come here. The food is great, but the people here are even better. I would very much love to come back again.

I would give 7/10. The staff was friendly and the food was ok. The hamburger was overcooked ( I asked medium rare but it was well done). The bread of the burger was not fresh and it was a very standard bread. The steak tartare was good but nothing special. The prices were higher than what was delivered, around 17€ per burger and the same price for the tartare.

Fantastic burger! Just be ready to go outside of all the tourist attractions in Paris. Also, if you’re American you might want to let them know that you want it “en point” or else you’ll have it pretty bloody (which I enjoy). Highly recommended for anyone looking for a great burger hidden gem.

Great place with good food and service, everyone who attended us was very kind , attentive and helpful. The food stands out as well , flavor is good and you can tell the quality of the meats are something far superior to the rest.

I can only agree with the previous recessions. The service is courteous but not intrusive. Warm atmosphere throughout the stay. The food was perfect (recommendation the Napoleon+ chocolate mouse). Can't beat the price for the service and food. The restaurant is on a side street about 5 minutes from the metro. Make a reservation as it was well attended.

Had 3 burgers and beef tartare to start, all very good and the guys there very happy to help and explain all the dishes, beef tartare was one of the best I've tried definitely would recommend it.

Hands down the BEST burger I've ever had. I ordered the French hamburger with fried egg mainly because it's served without brioche buns, and I wanted to avoid eating a lot of bread. I wasn't prepared for the foodgasm I experienced from the first bite. For me, the choice of garlic emental topping skyrocketed the taste to a whole new level. I am mouthwatering while writing this review. The beef tartar and the other burger (the Napoleon) were really good, but you have to try the French hamburger!!

We had dinner here last Monday and ordered two burgers: "The Parisian" and "The Cheddar". Both burgers were brought to us quickly and tasted excellent. Rarely have we had such a fresh and tasty burger. For dessert, we treated ourselves to apple crumble and the quality and taste were also impressive. Il était un square is definitely worth a visit. The burgers are delicious, the waiters are friendly and attentive and the overall atmosphere was more like a visit to a friend's house than a restaurant.

Amazing food and service! I had a Ziggy tartare and my wife had a French burger with no patty but with amazing blue cream sauce. Ziggy tartare is full of spices and definitely the most special tartare I tried. French burger was also amazing as the quality of meat is top notch and the cheese is to die for. Go there and enjoy!

Came to Paris for the weekend and googled restaurants. This one came up so we made the journey from Athis Mons via the train. It was completely worth it. We had booked a table later, but they kindly squeezed us in earlier. The owner was so friendly and accommodating. They were all just so friendly. The food itself was divine. Probably the best burger over ever eaten. I highly recommend going.

Life changing experience, both for the taste (amazing) and for the amount. Most things are seasonal and/or handmade with great combinations right off the bat for every hamburger, it took me ages to decide because everything looks and sounds amazing. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful and speaks English well enough to have a bit of small talk too. Couldn't recommend the place enough, so far my favourite hamburgers ever. Pro tip: don't eat much before going here because it's a shame to leave anything on the place

Absolutely mouth watering food. I went to this place last Saturday with le husband because we are craving for american food. The fries are crispy, the steak is good! And guess whaaaaat, the patty is so juicy!! We ordered the The Traditional, the Cheddar Burger, Salad and Tartare Saumoin. All of them are good. And will definitely be back.

I highly recommend to try their melted cheese with homemade fries. The food was very good with a reasonable price. Also the staff was extremely kind and helpful!

The best restaurant I've been while in Paris! The owner is so nice, he even explained the menu in Portuguese!!! It's noticeable that he really cares about his customers! Literally the friendliest staff of my stay in Paris! I had the traditional tartare and I am sure I will not find a better place to eat this dish! Very tasty and complete! It goes well with the brouilly! I was too stuffed to have desert but will definitely come back and try it! It was the best decision to go there for my birthday night!

Both tasted awesome. You can tell the produce is really high quality and it just melted in the mouth. Easily the best burgers we have both ever had.The service throughout was really friendly.

We found this restaurant in an effort to get to know the Buttes aux Cailles neighbourhood better on our short weekend trip away post lockdown. And it was a great find! The restaurant is known for unique burgers and tartars. The food is delicious, the pitchers of wine are very well chosen, and the server really enjoys his job. The tiramisu was amazing!

Amazing food, service and atmosphere. They were short staffed by one and apologized that they would be running, this didn’t detract from the service and food being served fast. The staff speak English and have great recommendations . Food is burgers or Tartar, but with there own twist, burgers are the specialty and you won’t be disappointed! There was an even number of locals and tourists to make it feel authentic, off the beaten track enough to make it not touristy. Can’t recommend this place enough.
