Right in the heart of Trastevere the hotel provided an incredible experience in every regard - the location, rooms, service and the breakfast While the rooms are updated and modern there are bits and pieces of history everywhere. From the courtyard with orange trees to the water fountains on the property, we enjoyed the experience thoroughly Apart from the hotel the staff was fantastic.. extremely thoughtful in anticipating our needs as first timers in Rome and making sure to arrange for cabs and pointing out where to go for what. Finally the breakfast itself and the staff there gave every morning a great start especially when travelling with teenagers Highly recommend all around

We really loved this hotel. Absolutely marvelous location and every member of staff that we came in contact with was wonderful, particularly front desk and the two fellows who work in the breakfast room and who tend bar in the evening. Front desk staff was everlastingly patient with our large group and endless requests for help with dinner reservations, etc. Trastevere is charming & this hotel was an oasis. The rooms & bathrooms are dated, but in some ways that adds to the charm, and also (I assume) keeps prices reasonable. My only regret is that it was too chilly during our stay to enjoy the beautiful outdoor space. If I’m ever back in Rome, this will be my number one place to stay.

Perfect place for vacation! It’s one of the most popular quarters in Rome, but the area of the hotel is quiet and cosy. There’s an orange yard inside of the hotel where you can have a glass of wine any time. We can only recommend it for everyone- single/adult/with kids 😊

This hotel made our entire trip so great. Everyone who works here is the kindest person (and very funny) They helped us communicate with the airline to find our missing bags. The breakfast is great the rooms are clean and comfortable. The location could not be beat. It is in a beautiful area on a calm side street and you can walk to everything. I would tell everyone visiting Rome to stay here!

This is such a brilliant hotel! Perfectly located amongst loads of bustling restaurants and bars, and within easy walking distance to Rome's main tourist hot-spots. Yet the hotel is quiet and peaceful, tucked away down a side road, and enjoys lovely gardens, which we sat out in for breakfast, despite it being the end of November. The staff here are fabulous - from the lovely people in reception to the breakfast and bar staff -- all are so friendly and welcoming. We had a good laugh with everyone, it is such a happy place. Our room was kept spick and span by the housekeepers -- everything was perfect! We are planning our next trip to Rome -- it is such an amazing city -- and we will definitely be staying at the Hotel Santa Maria again.

The Hotel Santa Maria is perfect for an intimate, friendly, and quiet getaway in the heart of Trastevere. The rooms are simple, but comfortable and well maintained. The courtyard is a big plus. Grab a cappuccino and a good book, and you're in heaven. Where the Hotel Santa Maria really shines, though, is in its staff. They're incredible! Within the first day of arriving I was greeted warmly and got to know many of the amazing people who work hard to ensure your experience is perfect. Special kudos to Kevin, Armando, Adriano Federico, and everyone else whose names escape me. They really made my stay amazing, and I'm only on day two (out of six)! Do yourself a favor and stay at the Hotel Santa Maria. Highly recommended, and I'd give them ten stars if I could!

A fantastic place to stay. The staff were warm, friendly, funny and incredibly helpful. Guaranteed to make you smile. Good breakfast and happy hour. Great location. The only downside was the mattress and pillows weren’t the most comfortable- otherwise perfect in every way.

Stayed here for our honeymoon and first time visiting Rome/Italy. We loved everything about our stay! Easy to navigate to the hotel walking from public bus. We arrived very early from our overseas flight and they let us relax in their beautiful lobby/Grove. They brought us water, bread, and coffee immediately. Check-in was seamless and our room was ready 2 hours early! They recommended restaurants, sites to see, and how to get there. I planned not seeing anything the first day due to jet lag but with their service we squeezed in a full day of Rome! Breakfast was delicious, the hotel was peaceful and quiet compared to the night life that surrounded the neighborhood. Piazzas and shops were right outside the gate for walking at night. The locked room and safe inside, outer gate, and cameras made us feel very safe. Not only was the location great and hotel beautiful but the staff were so friendly and our favorite part!!! Worth every euro to stay here.

We absolutely loved our stay at the gorgeous Santa Maria! This will always be our first choice when in Rome. You can’t beat the location in Trastevere. It’s a busy area but the hotel is a quiet oasis to return to at the end of each day. We loved breakfast each morning in the stunning courtyard and especially enjoyed happy hour. We want to make special mention of Adriano who provided next level service, always so friendly and helpful and Kevin behind the bar who catered to our every whim. I cannot recommend this hotel enough!

We stayed at Hotel Santa Maria for the first leg of our Italy honeymoon. The rooms are basic and a bit dated, but very clean and comfortable. We stayed in 5-star resorts during the rest of our trips, yet we had the best night sleeps in our Santa Maria room! The hotel is centrally located in Trastevere, surrounded by popular restaurants. However, the gated entrance and intimate courtyard full of orange and lemon trees mean your stay will be safe, quiet, and peaceful. The free breakfast included eggs, fresh baked bread and jam, granola & yogurt, homemade pastries, juices, and of course coffee, which could be enjoyed in the courtyard. There was also a happy hour each evening, where you got access to food if you purchased a drink at the bar. You can also spot the hotel cat lounging in the sun :) The hotel staff is amazing - we felt so secure and welcome here. We loved our customized morning cappuccinos and the friendly and helpful greetings. They were there to assist with any questions we had. While Hotel Santa Maria is not as luxurious as other more fancy resorts, it was cozy and felt like home for us during our stay.

Everything was perfect! The hotel is charming, and the location is ideally located in a sweet neighborhood with lots of wonderful restaurants and shops. The room was very comfortable, and ideally located right off the courtyard. The service was amazing! Everyone was extremely helpful, friendly and accommodating. We were so pleased, and we loved our stay!

Very helpful, friendly and overall outstanding staff, from front desk to breakfast and happy hour drinks the bar area. Though a bit hard to find initially, great location - almost oasis like - in the middle of all the activity and action in Trastevere. Highly recommend and definitely would stay again on future visits to Rome.

After a month in Italia, our stay at Hotel Santa Maria was truly the highlight of our trip! Every single person was so friendly and helpful and professional. The room was spotless and well-appointed. All the services were excellent. Thank you so much for making our visit to Roma fantastic!

The Hotel Santa Maria is the best hotel I’ve ever stayed at. The staff is kind and helpful. We especially enjoyed happy hour in the beautiful orange tree lined courtyard. The location is excellent. We walked to many of the sights and there is a taxi stand close by. The room was comfortable and well appointed. Everything was wonderful! I highly recommend this hotel and hope to return some day.

Tranquil hotel with a beautiful courtyard perfect for breakfast and evening drinks. Rooms clean and comfortable and attractive. Very comfortable beds. Bathroom spotless with bath and shower. Staff polite and helpful but felt a little distant at times. Location in central Trastevere with restaurants on the doorstep and about 15 minute walk to city centre.

Hotel is a quiet oasis in a very hip neighborhood in Roma. Hotel staff is beyond great. We should have written down all the staff that was exceptional, oh but wait, we would have written down ALL the staff’s names! Special thanks to Armando, Kevin, Norman and Marvin. Hotel grounds were immaculate and rooms small but comfortable. Upgrades might include updating TV and beds. Service would be impossible to upgrade because it was nothing less than exceptional. We will come back.

One of the best budget hotels we have ever stayed it! Superb service, rooms and bar with free food with your drinks from 5, and it's very well made too! The gardens are lovely with orange tree's and friendly cat. I can highly recommend you stay here if visiting Rome!

Incredible hotel! Cannot wait to go back when we’re in Rome again. Service was exceptional. The breakfast was a delight and I loved their latte art! They made an extra effort for a birthday too. Super cosy rooms. Everything was genuinely PERFECT!

Thank you so much for a great holiday. It was a very wonderful stay at your hotel. The service you provided was first class and warm. Your "Happy Our" is a really good idea and very cozy and we enjoyed it every day. A special thank you must go to Kevin, who showed a special warmth, thank you for that. We come from Denmark and we will definitely come back. Many loving greetings from Susan and Kim.

Everything about this hotel was delightful! Our room was charming and very clean, and we loved the courtyard for happy hour and breakfast. Most of all the staff was so friendly and helpful! Our cappuccinos in the morning were works of art : ) From helping with our bags on arrival to a lovely dinner recommendation our last night the young man at the desk was so sweet! Highly recommend this hotel! Thank you for a great visit. : )

What a gem! I stayed here with my husband an 11 yo daughter and could not have been more pleased. Our room was spacious, comfortable and clean. The courtyard and rooftop terrace were ideal spaces to relax and acclimate to the time zone. The daily breakfasts were delicious and filling. The location of the hotel was convenient and fun. But, above all, every single staff person we encountered was welcoming, engaging and helpful. When we arrived well before check in from a red eye, they offered us juice, coffee & pastries in the courtyard. They recommended restaurants and arranged tours for us during our stay. And, when the next leg of our travel plans was disrupted by a transit strike they assisted us as we navigated unfamiliar alternate options. Highly, highly recommend a stay here when in Rome.

This hotel was recommended to me by a friend who had been there about 5 years prior. And I am so glad she recommended it. The grounds of the hotel are gorgeous. The garden area is enjoyable in itself, where you can enjoy happy hour with the hotel or even have your own drinks. the room was styled amazingly, and the temperature was able to be adjusted wonderfully. The cleaning service is spectacular so you know you will be coming back to a fresh space every day or night. The service for breakfast and reception were amazing. I was able to talk with the owner for a bit and learned the background of the hotel, which made it that much more enjoyable.. truly a husband and wife who care about what they've created!! I will absolutely return. The location was perfect as well as we did not mind the 20-30 min walk to the site and other areas of the city.

An oasis of calm in the busy Trastevere area. Convenient to many excellent, very crowded restaurants. A fairly long way from the popular tourist sites, so it depends what you want to see and how far you want to walk. Decent breakfast and nice happy hour with snacks, the bar staff work very hard. The garden is lovely, but watch out for bird "do" on you and your food. Rooms are clean but small.

We loved this hotel! We decided to book based off photos of the courtyard covered in orange trees, and that's what we loved most once we were there. We ate breakfast in the courtyard and enjoyed happy hour there with Santa Maria spritzes. It was such a peaceful, relaxing atmosphere. The hotel location couldn't be better - right in the heart of Trastevere, walking distance to fantastic restaurants and bars. We would stay here again and recommend to anyone traveling to Rome.

Santa Maria Hotel is a lovely gem tucked away in the lively area of Trastevere. It is secure, secluded and quiet. It has a lovely shaded garden and a very nice roof terrace. The service and friendliness of the staff was superb. We enjoyed free use of the bikes. Breakfast was excellent. Would love to stay again in the future.

Great location to many sights and walkable. Location is a bit tricky to find at first. Very quiet spot although in the middle of piazzas. Service staff is wonderful. Nice spread for breakfast and outstanding bread. I wish breakfast would start at 6:30 since we were in Rome to catch an international flight so it is hard to start breakfast at 7:30. Room was very small and we liked the fridge as well. Recommend it and would stay on the next stop in Rome

We had such a wonderful stay at Hotel Santa Maria. A bit noisy at night because of the neighborhood but the hotel itself was an oasis, and the ambient noises really weren’t a bother. The service was wonderful, we took advantage of the bikes, the breakfast was great, overall a fantastic stay. All the staff were excellent but special thanks to Frederico who went the extra mile to show hospitality to us. We will recommend to everyone, we hope to stay again!

We spent our last night in Italy at Hotel Santa Maria and we were so grateful for the hospitality. The hotel is centrally located in Trastevere which was exactly what we wanted, but it was also wonderful as once you enter the hotel property, it feels like a sanctuary from the heat and bustle of the city. There are at least two courtyards with orange trees, a common area to rest, and a bar area to grab a drink and process your day. I also want to share that the staff are excellent. I have a sensitivity to heat and so with a recent heat wave, they were more than accommodating to ensure I felt comfortable. The air conditioning works great as well if that is a concern for some travelers. I would love to return with my family and stay another time!

It is a hidden gem in Trastevere area. Staff was amazing. they made us feel so welcome even though we arrived late (10:30 pm) they had wonderful breakfast and happy hour. It was oasis in a bustling part of Rome and also convenient to many places we could walk to. Bus line was close by and Tiber River several blocks away. The beds were comfortable and the room cool. We were in the Jr. Suite and the ceiling was a bit low in the upper area and bathroom, but it was clean and nice. I would return if I could and stay there and would recommend

We loved our 2 night stay at this lovely hotel. Excellent location, friendly helpful staff and delicious breakfast included. We also really enjoyed “happy hour” with complimentary nibbles in the beautiful courtyard. We are looking forward to returning soon 😊

It is always scary to book online, but this hotel was everything it said and more. Staff went out of their way to accommodate us. Lovely oasis from the crowds of Rome. Room was clean and beautiful. Very safe in a wonderful area with many restaurants in walking distance. Beautiful terrace area and eating area. Loved everything about this place! Staff was VERY helpful during the taxi “emergency” helping us get around and to the cruise port after our scheduled transportation did not show. Happy Hour was very nice and breakfast very good. Highly recommend

We were pleasantly surprised upon our arrival to Hotel Santa Maria. We were welcomed like family, and within minutes shown to our room. It was such a quaint little hotel. The room was clean and we had everything we needed. The most special part though was the oasis that you come back to for Happy Hour and a drink after a hectic day in Rome. The appetizers were delicious and it was SO peaceful. The staff arranged for a personal pick up from the airport to the hotel and then from the hotel to the cruise port. It all went so smoothly. We cannot thank all the staff at Hotel Santa Maria for their kindness, and helpfulness while we were there. We only stayed for one night but wished it could have been more.

Absolutely awesome stay comfortable beds basic but functional room one thing bring hairdryer as one provided is a little underwhelming but this is the only grumble and if you like to dry your hair a nice to know. Can’t say how great the staff are all area real credit to the hotel especially Kevin and federico in the bar very friendly genuinely interested in your day and great company while waiting for your partner to go out in the evening. The happy hour was great a few small bites with a beer before getting ready to go out. Breakfast though limited was perfect for us pastries coffee toast and meats cheese and boiled eggs. Location was great for us close to loads of restaurants which staff are happy to recommend and book for you it is in a courtyard behind gates so there is no noise from the busy streets and a lovely quiet roof terrace to relax on before bed all in all would recommend this hotel to Everyone I know thanks to all at hotel Santa Maria

The staff and service were excellent. They went out of their way to be helpful - nothing was ever any trouble. Their thoughtfulness sets them apart and and they are a real asset for the hotel. The property felt like an oasis. Quiet and peaceful. The breakfasts plentiful and coffees great. The evening Happy Hour a nice touch. If i would change anything in would be the mattresses and pillows. (Not very comfortable)Wifi was not the best but we made do.

Great location, excellent staff, could not have asked for a better place to stay. Everyone was so so nice and accommodating. They helped make reservations at local restaurants and the breakfast selections and happy hour were both very nice. My only real complaint was the wifi was very spotty. Also, it is important to know that this is a busy area all hours of the day and night. We slept fine because we are heavy sleepers but I would not recommend if you are a very light sleeper as it can get a bit loud late into the night.

I just traveled to Rome with my daughter. We loved Hotel Santa Maria. The rooms were nice and very clean. The staff was very helpful and friendly. There were lots of good restaurant options close by. It was easy walking distance to various sites and shopping.
