Let's start with the positive... the fries were amazing, they were fresh, perfectly cooked, and well salted. That is pretty much where the positives end for our experience. We try to visit places that have been on "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives" when we are traveling and our trip to San Francisco was no exception. We were the only ones in the restaurant when we got there at 6:30 PM and I can tell why. The menu is pretty simple which I can appreciate, but it seemed pretty expensive. I'm not opposed to paying for a good meal though. My wife and I chose 2 burgers and when ordering I asked him what came with it and he told me nothing. $17 for just the burger. So we had to pay even more for an order of fries to split. The burger itself was ok, nothing special and it was covered in A1 steak sauce which isn't my favorite but I know a lot of people enjoy. The atmosphere of the restaurant was quiet and relaxed but it was FREEZING in there. I wouldn't go again and I definitely wouldn't recommend it to anyone unless someone was just looking for some good fries!

This cozy place is a vibe. We love the fact that it’s open till wee hours at night. We ordered a burger with onion rings. One of the best patty we have had. They had added caramelized onions to it. It added that crunch and sweetness. All in all we had a beautiful experience. Perfect place for a cozy date night

Great experience at this restaurant. The standout dishes were the burger and loaded wedges, which were cooked to perfection, and the cookies and cream milk shake, which was creamy and delicious. The only downside was that we had to pay upfront, but this did not significantly impact our enjoyment of the restaurant. Overall, I would highly recommend this restaurant for its great food and service.

An interesting place. Over priced, burger with no fries $17. Burger was ok, fries were pretty good. The caldo Verde soup was good but for$10 you only get 2 tiny pieces of sausage. Was not a fan of their wings or their secret wing sauce that they bring on the side. It's also strange that you have to pay every time you add something to the order, want another beer? Need to pay, want another appetizer? Pay again. Why not have an open tab like the other diners? Server was very friendly but stood and waited for us to order everything we wanted, really uncomfortable and weird, just give us a min and come back to us later.

Came to this place because we had a late flight and it was the only place open until 3 am. Placed looked extremely fine, with fabulous pictures. You gonna see. We took nugget burger which was destroyed by my friend before taking a pic, and California chicken sandwich. Was delicious. Thanks for experience that deep at night.

Good thing it’s open late! Unfortunately over priced. It’s a perfect spot when you’ve been out drinking and want a bite to eat. Standard food and not super clean. It’s ok. Cheeseburger with mushrooms and grilled onions. ( pictured ) 222 breakfast plate. ( pictured )

It's been a good while since I've been here, but since learning they're open late, I decided to come back and give it a try. I'm always on the hunt for late night spots in the city with good food and Grubstake checks all of the boxes. A cute little spot on Pine, You could probably pass this place and not notice what it was. Once you step in, there's a very cozy feeling. Quite a few tables and booths, but there's also a countertop. You have the option of ordering online or you can ask for a traditional menu in order through a server. Once we sat down, we are immediately greeted a staff member and were given water. Ordering online is super easy. A couple things that I would definitely recommend: • Onion rings • Grilled Buffalo Wings Honestly, I don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu. I had the cheeseburger and it was so juicy and perfectly cooked. This place is a real gem! Parking can be a little bit difficult but definitely would recommend coming here. Staff is super friendly and food comes out in a timely fashion!

We ordered 2 burgers, & an order each of fries & onion rings. The onion rings were steaming hot! If you're looking for a good burger place in SFO, I highly recommend the Grubstake Diner! We were surprised the sandwiches came stand alone. The atmosphere was that of the old 50's Diner.

Love experiencing new to me hidden gems. This place did not disappoint. Got the hamburger with the fried egg and a strawberry milkshake. The whipped cream was AMAZING! I'm definitely putting it on my go back list!

Great place. They serve breakfast but they don't open til 6pm. A couple vegetarian options. A few times we have gone and they don't have everything that's on the menu. Food is seasoned properly and very flavorful. My only issue is that they do not have hot chocolate. ):

Guy Fieri ate here and guess what I see why. Was delicious and very nice service. They were fast with the food and drinks as well. Me and my husband shared a steak dinner and was perfect. Highly recommend.

Surprisingly tasty little diner based in old tram car. Open until 3am if you're having a late one. Wide choice & recommend the Philly steak cheese on French roll.

This place is just ok, food was ok, and the ambiance was ok. Pricey likely for what it is. But if it was 2am I probably would have thought it good.

The place is quite nice and there's nothing wrong with the service but the burgers are overpriced and not that good for the price. Moreover if you want to add a side of fries to your $17 burger, you'll add $6.5 and it won't even be for a full plate. The clam chowder however has a better price/quality ratio than the rest.

If I could I'd give 3.5 stars, that's what I think it deserves, not because it's terrible but because the only time I'd go here is for those 3am occasional nights out. The food was decent and the environment was calming because of the artificial garden on the ceiling. Beats Denny's IMO.
