Some of the dishes here standout more than others. I was really looking forward to the escargot appetizers and while the dish looked amazing and loaded with butter with large snails, the individual snails were extremely tiny and cooked down to something you could barely even see. The lamb sausage appetizer comes with a salad and it’s ok. True to it’s word the sausage made of lamb is pretty unique with a little gamely flavor. Didn’t find either of the appetizers above to be worth their value and would definitely skip. For the appetizer, I ordered a veal. The veal was split in to 3 thin flat sheet and covered with a butter sauce and mushrooms/veggies. The sauce was delicious, the veal was ok. Because each sheet was pounded flat, it was a little dry and tougher than I would have liked. Sauce and vegetables were very tasty. The duck confit however was phenomenal. Delicious deep rich flavor and supremely tender meat. This is a must get. To finish for dessert, the gelato was very tasty and reasonably priced. Staff was friendly and service and food came quickly. Overall I would come here again, but pick strategically focusing on the best main courses they offer and skip the appetizers.

I was living in France for five years and I am falling in love with French culture and cuisine. When I came to the USA I was missing real French food and my French fried recommended Chez maman place. First of all servers and manager speak French there, second, food has taste as from restaurants located in France. You can feel fresh products and people of this restaurant know how to cook it in French style. Particularly i was glad to see French desserts. Thanks to this restaurant I have a chance to show my friends what is a French cuisine and not to fly to France every time. Unfortunately they don’t have reservations, I could not do it by phone, but I understand this place is popular because of gorgeous food. Merci❤️

One of the best burgers in town. Crispy hot fries to boot :) Not sure about the French lager though - will definitely stick to a local brew next time. Bar service is excellent and fast! Did I mention that it's reasonably priced?

Tried it over the years and very consistent..friendly service. Great food. The west location is slight better but more busy. Love the brussel sprouts, burger, chicken. You feel good and upbeat after a meal here

When you go to dine in a French restaurant, you expect a crunchy baguette. Unfortunately the baguette was not fresh at all. The soups were delicious, the French onion and the cream of mushroom were very tasty, and the fried goat cheese arugula salad was great. The hamburger was on a cabata bread that does not go with the hamburger. And the meat was not tasty. The mussels are not bad. And as desert, the apple tarte tatin will prefer with a vanilla ice cream instead of the whipped cream. The service was very good.

Excellent French food all around. Good selection of wines by the glass. Be prepared to wait (a good while) as this tiny neighborhood joint draws a huge line no matter what time of day or day of week. Good thing is you can order wine while you wait which definitely makes the wait feel shorter!

This is now our go-to spot to satisfy all of our sudden crave for authentic traditional French food. Needless to say, the foods were so good that they bring back vivid memories of our travels in France. The service was excellent, as the staff were very attentive. It's not one of those superficial and overly flamboyant SF establishment that will break your wallet. Rather it's a down-to-earth neighborhood bistro that people can go back again and again. We love it and we are certain that you will too.

Visited Chez Maman for a friend's birthday last weekend. I thought the food was fantastic! Requested my steak medium, and it was perfectly done. The food came out hot, and all the dipping sauces were delicious. The crème brûlée was incredible, probably the best I've ever had. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable. I would absolutely come back to this restaurant!

Great restaurant, with friendly service. We were seated outside and it was very nice. My husband and I ordered the half roasted organic chicken and the hachis parmentier. The hachis parmentier was very delicious, the beef was very juicy, and the potatoes with crispy cheese on top was perfect. The chicken my husband had was also very delicious. They were both very generous portions and overall we were very satisfied with our dining experience.

Cute cafe in Potrero hill with outdoor seating and an assortment of French dining options. We went for lunch and got a salmon panini and a chicken burger. The garlic aioli with the burger was divine. The salmon panini was decently flavored although I think there were way too many capers. Service was quick, but also had the pace of a typical French cafe (time to chat/have conversation).

Chez Maman is setting the bar quite high for french food. The service. The ambiance. The food. It is definitely not a surprise why Chez Maman has been around for 20 years, and the crowd for dinner is still not dwindling! The outdoor patio is perfect for day and night. The natural lighting of the day and the dim heat lamps of the night definitely set the vibe for a cute date, friend hangout, family meal, or business occasion. The servers are very attentive at all times. They made sure all of our needs are taken care of and consistently checked in with us. The table near us celebrated their birthday, and the staff helped the family surprised the birthday boy. WHAT A VIBE~ We shared the French Onion Soup, Escargots, Les Moules with Fries, and Duck Confit for 2 people. We both thought the french onion soup would be heavy by the look of it, but it really wasn't. YOU SHOULD DEFINITELY GET IT. The escargots were fresh, imo. and the fries... I CANT STOP EATING THEM,,, yet the MAIN PLAYER is DUCK CONFIT. when you cut into it, HOLY MOLY, THE TENDERNESS. paired with the sauce, CHEFS KISS! the mashed potatoes too. how did they even do that! if you can only get one thing, get the duck confit. you will NOT regret! We then ended the night with some sorbets. Chez Maman lives up to its name with its welcoming staff, warmly ambiance, and delicious food. The way they make their customers feel... makes me feel fuzzy inside :D I will for sure return to the restaurant!

I’m so surprised this place is highly rated on google. It was absolutely terrible and a waste of a meal. The provencale moule had decent flavors, but I wish they were more developed. Also it felt like I was eating a a beach, cause with every bite I was getting a side of sand. They need to wash the mussels better next time during prep. We also ordered the Brie panini with sausage. Honestly I was expecting this to be good, who doesn’t like bread, cheese, and sausage. It was an absolute train wreck, literally tasted and looked disgusting. And the side salad they served it with was lack luster and bland. The French onion soup I ordered was probably the best thing I ordered from here, but it’s not saying much. The onion was not carmalized, still had a very distinct raw onion flavor. Would not come here again, and suggest you to go somewhere else instead of wasting a meal at this establishment.

I have a group of former colleagues that I consider a 2nd family and we try to go out and celebrate birthdays and special events together when we can. Chez Maman is always our go-to place and for good reason. The whole area is residential so parking isn't bad at all until you get later into the evening. It's super easy to get to right off Hwy 280. We've literally never had a bad meal or bad service there. The staff are always sincere and super nice. They don't take reservations which is the only thing I can complain about, but that's it. I love this place and the memories I've made there with my work fam will always be priceless to me.

Had an awesome time at this restaurant in a sweet SF neighborhood with killer views! The French onion soup was next-level, and those mussels? So good. Would definitely visit next time I’m in the city.

Everything was great and smooth, food was great, it is very nice place and delicious onion soup! The only thing I am sad about is I ordered medium rare for my steak and obviously it is medium....Because this happened a few times to me in US I kinda think that medium rare means a different thing here.

Everything was excellent and the servers and bussers were friendly and on top of everything. I liked that there was food available at different pricepoints — apps, paninis, and entrees— so everyone can treat themselves here. Very thankful that my friend ordered dessert, it was amazing.

We ordered two salad + truffle fries. They forgot ahi tuna on one salad and it took them another long time to get us the ahi tuna separately. I know it was a very hot day so definitely was expecting some delays in the services but the service overall was very very slow and not pleasant enough. ++++ i wish the servers would remind us the steak comes with the fries and so we do not need to order as a side. I made this mistake twice already…everytime we order the steak, the server asks us if we want to add fries or not without reminding/implying that we already got fries coming out.

The food was delicious!! The tartare was flavorable and rich. The fish was tender and seared perfectly. Best part is the price is very reasonable. At the end of the night, I also got sorbets from the restaurant. Not many people talk about it much but it’s so GOOD. They’re fruity, rich, and also different from other restaurants’. They’re created in house by the restaurant I think. 100% recommend!

The outdoor sitting space is nice. Felt the food was good quality but didn’t quite enjoy it as the crepe had a lot of cheese. Dinner options might be better than their lunch ones!

I’d like to start off by saying that I love the outdoor seating! The heaters kept us very warm while we enjoyed our food. It’s been many years since I’ve had escargot or mussels, so they really hit the spot. I couldn’t choose just one dessert, so I ordered three and they were all incredible! In addition to our waiter, the staff was very welcoming. Different members of the staff would check in on us, which made the entire experience all the better.
