Decadent, delicious and delightful. Giving it a slight edge over Penny Roma for the best pasta in SF title. The truffle tortellini was the star but the agnolotti and breads were just as good. Fantastic service too. Perfect for date night; cozy spot in a great part of time. Parking can be challenging but the restaurant experience makes up for it.

It seems like there's so many Italian restaurants on San Francisco that it's hard to choose. Fortunately all of them that I've tried are very good, and now I can count Seven Hills among the list. Pasta was excellent, especially the black truffle tortellini. I especially liked the Negroni which was made of white wine instead of gin, and it was very well done! 👍 The only let down was the outdoor seating. I mean, you're paying a premium for pasta and the outside seating does not live up to the price point - it falls very far short and without any kind of adjustment to reflect this I feel compelled to adjust my rating.

Coach Popovich has 5 NBA championship rings, but he may need a 6th purely based off the fact that he loves 7 Hills. Okay so maybe that opening line wasn’t great but EVERY DISH at Seven Hills was! We made reservations in advance and were seated promptly upon our arrival. The staff were efficient and personable and our server gave insightful recommendations based off our hunger levels. Tomatoes are in season and we we opted for the Sun Blaze Ranch Panzanella Salad which was *chefs kiss*. The tomatoes were super good and the other vegetables complemented the dish nicely. The dressing was light and let the tomatoes really shine. You cannot visit Seven Hills without trying their Maccheroncelli. As that is tomato based, we decided to order the Bigoli with the lighter sauce to contrast the Maccheroncelli. Maccheroncelli - delightful. Great texture and the chili really brightens this dish. Pappardelle - love the sauce. The pasta was perfectly cooked - I could eat this every day. Bigoli - was good and perfectly fine. I think in comparison to the other two pasta dishes it was hard for this to really stand out but it was good. Oh. Also. Don’t forget to get their baked in house garlic and Parmesan focaccia bread!!!

The food and dining experience were excellent. The service was very good, but could be a little slow at times (getting someone's attention etc.). But overall the dishes we tried were very good. Great flavor, quality, use of seasonal ingredients etc. Highly recommend this place.

I had a late night reservation and I'm glad I kept it. The pasta was cooked perfectly! The meatball was phenomenal and I loved the garlic bread. My girlfriend and I talk about our dinner here frequently. It left such a positive impression on us.

We made a reservation in advance and we’re promptly seated at arrival. The staff were very friendly and gave some really good recommendations based on your likes and food preferences! Every dish we ordered was great! They had a lot of vegetarian pasta options and we were spoilt for choice! Do not miss out on the garlic and Parmesan focaccia bread, it’s one of the best we’ve had!

William our server was attentive and prompt. He constantly checked in with us even though he had lots of tables and gave us many recommendations. We were a party of 6, mostly vegetarian. The chicory salad, maccheroncelli, triangoli and focaccia were our absolute favorites!

Excellent dinner - would definitely come back. Meatballs and pappardelle were highlights Prosciutto salad - tasty prosciutto and fresh pear Focaccia - lovely olive oil, light focaccia Meatballs - great texture, light tomato sauce Pappardelle - Al dente pasta, rich wild boar Tortelli - homemade ricotta is very flavorsome. Good but the pappardelle was better. Sherry vinegarette complemented the ricotta and shiitake Service - nice spacing between courses

My favorite pasta restaurant in SF. So creative and delicious! Always top quality! Also their salads are the best, fresh and seasonal. Highly recommend this wonderful restaurant

My wife and her sister swear by this place, and I finally got a chance to try it. I see why they always bring it up! Every part of our visit was so good! The service was great and you could feel the passion. For starters, we ordered the House Made Focaccia, the Little Gem Salad and a truffle Raviolo. For mains, we ordered the Maccheroncelli, the Tagliatelle and the Agnolotti. For dessert we ordered the Chocolate Budino and the Panna Cotta. Honestly, everything was very good. The pastas were cooked perfectly and the flavors, delicious. The Little Gem salad was also awesome. Finally, the desserts were both the best!

Great experience. It is pretty tight in here though so you sit close to the next people but the food was great. The bread was a highlight as it was delicious. The parpadelle was good too but the meat was slightly hard to eat.

The pasta was super fresh. I love how the chef incorporates in-season ingredients into the dishes. The best bites from last visit was definitely the Wagyu steak - medium was perfect. The steak paired beautifully with Sangiovese 🍷 The only thing we didn’t quite enjoy was the lemon olive oil cake which was on the dry side.

I ordered tagliolini with tomatoes, fresh and rich and a touch of creaminess. Noodles very springy almost like Chinese bean curd noodles. Parpadelle with rabbit is hearty but still elegant. ($28) Casoncelli stuffed with potatoes had very delicious pesto sauce. Meat lovers will be pleased with the ribeye ($48). Also got beef and pork meatball appetizer ($23) rich and the perfect amount of black pepper. Prosciutto and melons had good prosciutto, spicy arugula, and delicious melons (I'm a melon lover, was satsified!). Foccacia $4 good bounce and decent olive oil. Only slight gripe is my water glass was refilled too often even after a few sips.

This place was really nice. The food was amazing. We got really good food. However, one thing we were disappointed at was the booking a reservation. Because when we checked options, there were very limiting options for making a reservation for dinner but when we went to the actual restaurant, there were only couple tables occupied. The only thing I would say they can work on their reservation Options on their website. I would definitely advise you to try lamb pasta. It was so good and get an elder berry flower drink it’s nonalcoholic. Get the duck liver pate as an appetizer if you like paste. It was good. But it’s very small amount so you might want to get more than one if you are a big group. If you’re a person who prefers to go places by foot, I would really advise you this place. It has a really nice neighbor hood to walk around.

Absolutely gorgeous dinner and great wines. The homemade pastas were simply melt in your mouth perfection and the outdoor seating by the cable car was magical. I couldn’t recommend it enough. Be prepared to splurge, you won’t want to skip any courses here!

We attend monthly, always good food, portion sizes vary, but quality and taste are always 5 stars. Waiters always happy to help with wine pairing, and make your experience memorable.

It's easy to find a good Italian restaurant but hard to find a great one. I am pleased to put Seven Hills in the "great" Italian restaurant category! Warning: In addition to appetizers, I recommend ordering one primo and one secondo per person as the portions allow for this (small) and the taste and quality justifies the portion sizes. All dishes were unique and expertly crafted. The foie gras appetizer was topped with a strawberry reduction which in my opinion is optional since I prefer the taste of the foie gras itself over the sweeter taste of the reduction. The Panzanella's dressing was perfectly balancing the tomatoes and fine slices of shallots. As main course, we shared the fish of the day which was roasted salmon on a bed of PERFECT tomato risotto. The risotto alone was to die for: topped with fresh basil leaves to give an explosion of flavors: absolutely lovely. The fish was cooked to the perfection: evenly cooked (juicy) with not a single sign of dryness. With this we paired a dry white wine. Highly recommend for the quality of the food. I would say that the higher cost is justified by the quality of the food.

The service and food were great! They were also very accommodating to food allergies. Highly recommend the garlic and Parmesan foccasia and Ramini Jersey Stracciatella.

They! Know! What! They! Are! Doing! Awesome service (quick, sharp, attentive) love the plate & utensil change + table wiping in between dishes! The food. Simply impeccable. I wish my appetite was big enough to order every single pasta dish on the menu. Will forever crave the squid ink spaghettoni with crab meat! Also, their focaccia was the best I’ve had in my life. Definitely will be visiting again soon!

Really good California inspired Italian cuisine in Russian Hill. How does this place not have a Michelin star is beyond me. The food is fantastic and the service was top notch. The pate was probably the best version of that dish in the city. Rich, flavorful, magical. The squid ink pasta sauce was life changing. The meatball is also a formidable challenger for best of night. And then a really good panna cotta. The service was prompt and friendly. A definite must try. Dos thumbs up 👍👍

The restaurant has high ceilings and a nice split between bar/lounge seating and dining room. The food portions were on the smaller-end of the scale for an American restaurant which is equal to just-right in my book. We shared a starter and selected a choice each from the pasta and secondi sections of the menu as a main. The pairing of the 2012 Sicilian red was very nice. The specials caught our attention too (Kanpachi, Kauai shrimp, Butterfish) but we opted for meat choices for the evening. Service was 5 stars; Food 5 stars, Ambience 4 stars (slightly chilly and noisy for low-talkers)

My sister lives on Hyde St and raves about Seven Hills, so it was no surprise when she said we should go for dinner for my last night on my visit. My recommendation is to head to the restaurant early & put your name in for a bar seat, or, even better — the best seats in the restaurant by the front window, and then go grab a glass of wine up the street at Union Larder while you wait for availability. I highly recommend the gem salad, the dressing was delicious. The Maccheroncelli was delicious and a must order. The only disappointment was the focaccia bread — which was very crunchy, and I prefer soft chewy fresh warm focaccia.

Talk about being literally seduced by a restaurant! We absolutely love Seven Hills! Every course is as delightful and delicious as the next. Although we have our favorites, each night the chef (and crew) execute menu additions with precision, care and deliciousness all tied together with a staff that truly (and openly) enjoys their own experience of being a part of a great customer experience. Thank you everyone at Seven Hills for making our Sunday evening so very special. Ciao for now!

    - came here as a dinner date upon recommendation of a coworker and didn’t disappoint, the pastas were some of the best i’ve had and everything is made in house! - tried 3 pastas in separate courses as suggested by server. service was above average, they cleaned the table and provided new plates/utensils after every course - food was on the pricier side, especially considering portions but worth it if going on to a nice dinner - garlic bread: pretty solid but nothing outstanding - triangoli: first and best pasta of the night! it was light, not overpowering and fairly unique. loved the combo of pear with the walnuts - tortelli verde: also a solid pasta, similar to the triangoli but definitely a little heavier. i’m a fan of anything with mushrooms and this was exactly what i was looking for - squid ink pasta with prawns: cream based sauce with prawns. a little disappointing tbh but still solid. the pasta was made really well and nothing was wrong but didn’t think the sauce was anything special. you can really taste the freshness of the pasta tho!

Delectable restaurant. Airy focaccia with fresh olive oil. The sea bass was very memorable: fresh, masterfully cooked, thin crispy skin with great umami, and flavorful, tender meat. The lemon and dill aioli was quite strong for me; the fish was good enough to stand alone. Both pastas were good and satisfying with well-balanced flavors. I'd be interested to try more innovative or exploratory menus next time!

Such a wonderful neighborhood gem with the BEST pastas! We loved everything we tried but the pasta dishes were a definite must-try. We had the corn agnolotti, the duck ragu papardelle, and the maccheroncelli with tomato sauce, which were all bursting with flavor. Also amazing were the tomato panzanella and early girl tomato bisque, which really stood out (it is tomato season after all). Overall, great experience and we’ll definitely be back - maybe to sit indoors though, as the outdoor seating was not very comfortable and quite chilly!

The food and service are very good. The pasta portions are very simply just too small. If you're going to charge $26 for a tiny plate of pasta, it needs to have something special in it, not just tomatoes, garlic, pancetta, and chilies. The ingredients literally cost $1. The epitome of hipster inflation nonsense.

We have been traveling in the Napa Valley and San Francisco area for a week and Seven Hills is the best restaurant of our entire trip, and we have enjoyed some pretty amazing places to eat. If you are a local and have not been to Seven Hills, you have to go because you will fall in love with it and have a new favorite spot yourself. The next time I come to San Francisco I am going to make my reservation weeks ahead to make sure I can get a table. The restaurant is located on the corner of Hyde and Green. Hyde is on the Cable Car line so imagine being able to ride the cable car directly to this amazing Italian restaurant from Ghirardelli square, this would make the ultimate romantic experience. The cable cars were not running so Uber dropped us off at the front door. When we arrived for an 8:00 reservation Alex, the owner, greeted us at the door. We were a few minutes early so he set us up with a wine list and encouraged us to look it over. We asked a question about an Italian wine that we were not familiar with and Alex told us about the wine and then opened a bottle for us to sample before making a final decision. We loved the wine and purchased the bottle. It was cool that he had faith in the wine and wanted to make sure that we were happy that he would to this. The food was simply amazing so let's jump into it. For starters we order the Burrata which has been a dish that we have tried multiple time during the trip. The Burrata was made with fresh melon, arugula and almonds toped with a delicious sauce that pulled everything together. Complex flavors came together so nicely, it was a great way to start. We also got the mixed olives which was a generous portion of olives, served slightly warm which enhanced the flavors and elevated the ingredient. At this point we decided that we were going to eat family style because we wanted to try as many of the flavors and dishes as we could. I would highly recommend this approach because it will expose you to so many great dishes. We chose three different pasta dishes and with the help of our amazing waiter Alex we adventured out of our norm to try something new. The Truffle Tortelloni is the most unique and delicious pasta dish I have ever had. The key is to eat the entire pillow of goodness at once and just savor the creaminess and bursting flavors. The sauce is buttery and you will want to make sure to get every little bit of it. If I could recommend a single dish this is where I would start. Our second dish was the one recommended by our wait staff, the Agnolotti. The pasta tubes are filled with sweet corn and ricotta. When you bite into them the corn offers such an amazing natural sweetness to your tastebuds you are going to be amazed. We were a little nervous about the whole corn and pasta combination, but it works so well. Our daughter does not like mushrooms, but there was only happiness as she tried the Chanterelle mushrooms with this dish. Our third and final pasta dish was just added to the menu and was a braised pork with a wide pasta noodle. I wish I would have made better notes on this one to share about it, but I do not want to describe it incorrectly. Like the others it was fantastic, with the pork being very tender. To conclude our evening we shared the Chocolate Budino and the special desert of the day an open tart with apricots and blackberries. Both deserts are were amazing. When you look up Budino on your phone it will say that it is a pudding, I would compare it more to a mousse. It had big chocolate flavor with a smooth airy texture. With our desert we splurged and paired it with a port to cap off the evening. Be sure to go to Seven Hills for an amazing meal and a culinary journey to Italy without the air travel.

Only giving 3 stars for atmosphere and the garlic bread. Maybe it’s a cultural difference, but there was absolutely zero flavor. I’m not sure what is wrong with San Francisco’s taste buds. I don’t drink alcohol, so I ordered a “mango” tea. Tasted like tea bags that steeped for too long. I had the Maccheroncelli. My noodles were extremely al dente (the the point it was inedible and gummy texture) and the red sauce was so bland that I wanted to go in the back and show them how to season and flavor the food myself. I could tell it was fresh tomatoes, but absolutely zero flavor. I did try my bf’s dish which was the Pappardelle with braised short rib. It was ok. It actually had flavor, but tasted like pot roast with brown gravy or a can of Denty Moore beef stew over noodles. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing. The meatballs were ok. Nothing to write home about. Highly disappointed spent this much money and time on a “nice” flavorless dinner. The waitress walked by several times noticing I wasn’t touching my food and at first was nice and helpful in letting us decide, but never once asked if the food was ok and was obvious we were ready to leave and just kept circling the room not stopping anywhere. This place seems to be all about appearances and not the food. Fake. Whatever you do, do it like the you do the garlic bread because that’s the only thing with any flavor.

Seven Hills is my favorite restaurant in San Francisco. My partner and I have been here for occasions at least once a year, and every year, the menu is slightly different but never fails to impress. The specials for appetizers and pastas are incredible and innovative. This time around, we got the crudo (a special), the tagliatelle, the pappardelle with ragu, the Meyer lemon olive oil cake, and a few wines (the Moscato was our favorite). Both pastas but especially the tagliatelle were the best pasta I’ve eaten in my life. It was our anniversary, and the staff was super generous and lit a candle on the dessert and gave us some extra moscato as well. Altogether a great experience.

Excellent restaurant in the Russian Hill area. Great Italian food. They have quite a big selection of homemade hostas. Very unique selections that change from time to time. I would highly recommend this to that was visiting. They added an outdoor dining area as has many restaurants, due to the pandemic. As the restaurant is on Hyde Street, the cable cars run along the street.
