Came here super last minute for my first ever Michelin star meal and oh boy it was worth it. Surprisingly affordable for a Michelin star too (granted I live in nyc and was expecting $300 minimum since I went by myself). I really enjoyed the flavors of the food and drinks. The staff was very attentive. The service was definitely a bit slower than your average restaurant but this is to be expected for fine dining/Michelin star I think. They want you to savor the food. I definitely would come by again.

Definitely a fancy place with a lots of options for food and drinks. However, it’s not pretentious and can be comfortable just for a couple of friends hanging out. What’s interesting is that you can order like this is a normal restaurant - normal food and drink. Or you have the choice to go nuts here and spend $300-500 per person easily. Love this place! Ps, the build the restaurant sits in is, in my opinion, most beautiful in SF.

Overall great restaurant with beautiful aesthetic, delicious food and tasty beverages. I would highly recommend checking it out while you’re in SF. Our original reservation was cancelled due to COVID precautions, but we were able to book something several days later. I was even gifted a bottle of wine for my inconvenience.

10/10 would recommend this restaurant 5/5 ambiance & cleanliness of the restaurant 5/5 customer service: our waiter was outstanding and very attentive. We were happy that we went his recommendations for most of the food. He really made our experience extremely memorable when he offered to ask the chefs if my friend and I could meet them and we did! Such an honor! 5/5 (overall) for the food - aesthetically pleasing plating of the food - fine culinary skills. Overall, every dish is delicious and has its own balanced blend of flavor and textural contrast. For the sake of my thumbs, I'll go into details about some of the dishes but not all. You have to experience the dishes in person as my review cannot describe or encompass everything. - (5+) Basteeya - most memorable dish of the night for me. The phyllo sheets were so thin and crispy! Sourness of the cranberry and the creamy creme fraiche complemented the sweet poached pears and the juicy duck inside. The different flavors and textural contrast blended well together. Hard to explain in words so you have to try it for yourself. - (5/5) the octopus was SOOOOOO SOFT and juicy. At most restaurants I've been to, the octopus lacks flavor and tought as if overcooked, but Mourad was the first to show me that cooked octopus can still be soft and chewy. I love the charred, smoky broccoli. This dish makes me like broccoli, and I don't even like broccoli. - the heirloom beans: the beans were HUGE, the size of a quarter. I haven't seen such big beans until Mourad. I love spices so I enjoy the way spices pop in my mouth. The creamy sauce soothes the spiciness and pungent spices so it'll be good for those with lower tolerance for spices. - (5+) the main entrees were delicious (brazino & squab). The fish skin was soo crispy, and the meat consisted of two fillets pressed together to give it a round shape. Interestingly, the way they pressed fish kept the meat together and the meat wasn't dried or fell apart after cooking. The squab is their new addition - tender, juicy, and not game-y at all. Tip: The main entrees are perfectly sized for a single person. For a full culinary experience, I recommend ordering a couple appetizers and small bites and an entree. Sampling the smaller dishes will fill you up. Their family style dishes (e.g. short ribs, lamb shoulder etc) are BIG, and I strongly recommend only ordering it when you have a big party (at least 3 extremely hungry people or 4 people with normal appetite). For a party of 2, unless you're extremely hungry, one of those will be too much and you won't be able to able to enjoy their other dishes. Overall, wonderful experience at Mourad, and a well-deserved Michelin star. Hopefully, I'll get chance to revisit and experience their food again!

The ambience, the service, and the wine set the tone at this fine dining experience. An extensive wine listing, the servers never let our glass remain empty for more than a few moments… Our server mentioned the halibut is cooked & prepared so you can tackle the whole body with just a spoon, and they were not kidding. So good. The salmon and scallops weren’t exactly what I was expecting but still were good. The puffs were delicious, I hardly had room to eat them though. The short rib was incredible!

One of the best restaurants I have been to. I agree it’s expensive, but I am not disappointed at all. I am glad I had this experience! Great food, amazing presentation, unique taste profiles, good service! Overall very satisfied.

We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience. The place itself was beautiful and the menu was uniquely interesting. The hit of the table was the duck pastry, but honestly, everything was superb! The short ribs were rich with flavor and melted in your mouth. Highly suggest the stone fruit burata as it was just an explosion of flavor and felt everyone should have had their own. The family style chicken platter was absolutely stunning visually and so tender and flavorful with the harissa kale chips and cipollini onions. The uni app was good but probably the least favorite of the table. Overall, we walked away feeling like we just had a very special dining evening enjoyed by all!

Great ambience and service. Really enjoyed the basteeya, I’d say it’s Wellington steak just with duck, but the puff on the outside is perfectly crispy as I like. Filling is awesome with nice fragrance. For main lamb is perfect as well with huge portion - took my two sep meals to finish. Friend enjoyed squab too. As for dessert we choose Marrakesh gold, which is basically carrot cake with whipped cream and hazelnut golden milk poured over. A little bit too sweet for me (didn’t really taste the yuzu flavor) but in general a legit dessert.

The level of service really seal the deal for a 5 star rating here. We had the pleasure of having Ben Z as our server. He had the right amount of attentiveness - wasn’t overbearing and didn’t make us felt abandoned either. We really appreciate his knowledge of the menu and random facts. We ordered the oysters, hokkaido uni, tartare, and the short ribs. Finished our night off with this dessert that had yuzu. The bearnaise sauce added a nice creamy touch to the oysters, but we wish the oysters were a little bigger. The uni and brioche combo was interesting - quality was good too. The short rib was really soft and tender.. don’t forget to use either of the 3 sauces they provide! A lot I can say about the food but y’all should just come and try.

Lobster chicken carrots eggs pecans olives lamb couscous kale drinks service wow! Everything was top notch. So good. We had reservations for six on a Thursday at 8:30 and they took us upstairs. The menu was explained and the food started flowing. Good wine selection with a story about the vineyard and farmers in Italy.

What a fine experience! Celebrated our anniversary here and it turned out to be such a special experience. Kind, polite, very patient staff, dedicated sommelier that suggests drinks and customizations per guests' likings. Server recommended their best dishes and his recos did not disappoint! The drinks are smooth & amazingly well made and the food -- some of the best I've ever had. They surprised us at the end of dinner with a sweet, bite-sized anniversary treat on the house. Definitely worth the splurge. Would love to go back again.

Amazing place! We went here to celebrate birthday and it was the right choice. Service is very attentive and unobtrusive. We tried two duck appetizers, branzino and squab. Squab is beyond any expectations- definitely try it. Duck appetizer are delicious and interesting in tastes. Branzino was very well cooked, but nothing standing out. This is one of the best restaurant in San Francisco, you’re missing out of not trying.

Excellent food. Excellent service. Treat all their customers well. The food was a wonderful mix of flavors- some expected and some not but made for flavor extravaganza. Made this foodie very happy. However their menus do not list all the ingredients so if you have food issues check first. Do make reservations.

Absolute fine dining experience 😍 I really loved the aura here as my close friend surprised me for birthday dinner. I couldn’t have imagined more than this! Food was absolute stunner, hospitality 5 star, after all you are visiting Michelle star restaurant! The staff was keeping a constant check on us if we were doing good. We had so many items that I just cannot list it out! Their wine is amazing, food is hell yeah amazing, but overall you get that awesome feeling when you are in San Francisco😍

The beef is so juicy and so tender, and tastes great even after reheating the next day with air fryer. Unfortunately they didn’t allow ordering half serving. Would be great to come with many family/friends and share these large dishes.

A right mix of Fine Dining and San Francisco :) Many Michelin restaurants serve multi-course meal in sometimes boring setting. But this restaurant feels casual. And fun! The food is great to share. The cod and duck were delicious! I had 2 cocktails and they were really good. The waitress was attentive and gave great recommendations. I will come back the next time I’m in SF.

As someone who loves trying new restaurants, and in a dynamic food city with an ever-growing list of notable spots, I find myself limited in time and resources to revisit even some of my favorite experiences. One such example is Mourad, an upscale and modern Moroccan restaurant in SoMa from chef Mourad Lahlou. Mourad opened his eponymous space in early 2015 to high expectations after already establishing a name for himself with Michelin-starred Aziza. Mourad restaurant was a hit and quickly received a Michelin star that year. I fondly remember two visits in those early years. The grand tree root sculpture at the entrance, the suspended glass wine cellar, the stylish bar, and of course the food! I couldn’t forget cutting into that flakey duck basteeya and being embraced by the intoxicating smell of the warm spices. I also remember the tender octopus, and the large format entrees accompanied by the simple, yet highly satisfying four sides. And the presentation of the food was both bold and elegant, like the restaurant. After those strong meals, Mourad would be my go-to recommendation for out-of-town guests. I also found that the larger space was easier to book compared to other similarly trendy spots. Fast forward to last month, and I had the opportunity to finally revisit Mourad, and what a magnificent return it was. The food was as strong as I recalled, the space grand, and the service was absolutely wonderful. Some highlights included make your own Hokkaido uni toast, pillowy milk bread with a trio of butter, the refined “eggshuka”, and the chocolate dessert with sumac ice cream and olive oil. The meal was accompanied by a bottle of bold, leathery 2012 Rovellotti Ghemme "Chioso dei Pomi”, selected by wine director Jose Delgado. And wine fans should definitely request a look at their wine cellar “bridge”. After this meal, I can gladly reiterate my long-standing recommendation of Mourad as a great example of modern Californian menus that San Francisco does so well.
