A gem off the beaten track. Awesome hospitality, excellent food and great ambience. Discover the true roots of Takayama.

This was my first time having Hida beef, at my very first Izakaya in Takayama. Very very normal tasting food that take hours and hours to prepare. Keep in mind that you have to make a reservation first before coming here. The interior is cute, cozy and warm. You have to order enough drinks, equivalent to the amount of food you ordered. It is an izakaya afterall; a place to hang out and chat with friends after a long tiring day; definitely not a place to have the fullest meal. Service was great, he was a one man show, did everything by himself. Having friends around was a great distraction, because we spend hours drinking and talking instead of eating. Then went to 7e afterwards to get pau (satisfying).

The food and drinks were was excellent! The owner was very nice and explained all his dishes that he prepared perfectly. An overall wonderful experience.

A small jewel hidden at Takayama. The owner was very nice and kind. The food also great and the sashimi’s really fresh. It’s not a restaurant, but it called Izakaya. A place to get drink and eat simple meals. We’d such a great moments here.

Randomly stopped in tonight and glad we did. Great local sake and food was delicious. Owner was very friendly and helpful with explaining how to eat the local dishes we ordered. Highly recommend.

Very friendly owner, he will explain very well how an isakaya bar works in Japan. He will even give you some books to read about Japanese culture, food and language. The food is good, the beer even better. Recommended at least for a drink, and while you are there try the hobamiso.

The best place to eat and drink in Takayama. This small Izakaya is hidden in a small street not far away from the river and Takayama main street. Finding this place will not be easy (we did it by chance) but you must visit it during your stay in Takayama! The owner loves is job and will introduce you to what an Izakaya is and what Japanese people do in an Izakaya: drink! Indeed you will be strongly invited by the owner to drink alcoholic drinks, (you would just not be in the right place if you don’t drink alcoholics). Eating is a wonderful plus: we had the best tempura since we are in Japan, amazing salty edamame, super-tender chicken skewer and unfortunately we didn’t try a beautiful grilled fish we saw delivered to another table. The price is definitely not high and probably lower than the quality of what you will eat and drink. It should also be remarked this is not the best place for children; we were 2 adults and I cannot completely confirm if they could be admitted or not but again, not the right place according to Japanese tradition! ;)

This is a great izakaya. Stopped in on the night of the spring festival parade for some sake and hida beef. Had a lot of fun conversing with some locals inside and the staff. They are very polite and explained all the dishes to us. The prices are very inexpensive and the food is excellent. Thanks for a great night Itsuki!

This is the place you have to go if you’re visiting Takayama! The hida beef was exquisite and the tsukemono’s omelette and tori no karaage too! We will come back here for sure if we will visit Takayama again.

Had my best meal of the entire trip here! Really do wish I could stay one more night to have one more dinner.
