Have been for breakfast many times before and had a pleasant experience…. After this morning we shall not be returning the food was absolutely awful, it was all cold, dry and flavourless! My scrambled egg looked and tasted as if it was pulled from a freezer bag and slapped into the microwave until the flavour had completely dissolved into nothing. Wouldn’t serve even to homeless.

Decent breakfast. Unlimited continental. Cooked breakfast (with black pudding) for £8.45. Lovely staff. Will return.

The meal was good but different from the menu. Many starters, meals and desserts were not available. I had the only vegan main and dessert offered. I am vegetarian but allergic to any trace of egg so this is a necessity to me, as well as a life choice.

Really lovely place to eat. A bit expensive but the food is worth it. Delicious, lovely staff as well. Highly recommended

We had pre booked and were shown to our table immediately by the excellent manager (who we know has been there since The Bell opened). We both had the roast pork Sunday lunch which was excellent, extremely generous portions, well cooked and very tasty. We shared an ice cream desert as too full to eat one each, followed by coffee.

The rooms are much like any other, tea / coffee making facilities & hairdryer in room and iron and ironing board on request, they are clean. Only issue with our room the extractor in bathroom wasn't working and sink took forever to drain. The pub / restaurant itself was very nice. The food was good. All the staff were lovely and helpful.

Been here a few times, mainly at lunch when they do their 3 courses for £15. Fantastic value and quality is good although lacks a bit in taste, for example the Cajun chicken tastes only of chicken. Really good place to drop in for lunch, good portion size too. Staff brilliant. It's better than a 4, but not a 5.

Went for a family meal with mine and my partners parents. We did request a quiet table as we have people with hearing aids who struggle to hear everyone talk. It was an extremely busy Saturday night so we realised when we were seated that this wasn’t possible. There was a large birthday party next to us which obviously wasn’t ideal but it was fine. We still enjoyed our night and our food, was a lovely evening overall the staff were attentive and the service was quick and efficient.

had prawns for a starter really nice sauce lovely fresh lettuce nice bread with butter , two of us had the lasagne also really good served piping hot with lovely warmed garlic bread ,our grandson had the vegan burger which he enjoyed , could do with a few more vegan options but a lot better than many places. Washed down with a pint of IPA and a glass of Rose . Service was good and pleasant food and drink were served at the correct temperatures . Did not like the music but that is a small thing and was not too loud so it intruded.

From when we arrived until we left the whole experience was really very good. Even though it was a busy lunchtime, we did not have to wait foreever to be served or were we rushed, which we have experienced in other venues. The two course lunch was excellent value for money and arrived hot which again does not always happen. The guy who served us was helpful and friendly. All in all a great experience which will make us go back and tell others about

We visited the Canterbury bell today for the first time. The premises looked clean and inviting from the outside. When we got inside we were warmly greeted and taken to our table. Our waitress, Amy, was very polite, friendly and helpful. We ordered three courses and all dishes were very good. If I'm honest, I wasn't expecting great quality from a Marsden's pub but it was excellent. The pub was clean, the food was very good and reasonably priced and the staff very nice. I will definitely be back. A****

The food was delicious and our waiter extremely friendly and efficient. The only minor negative was the amount of time it took to order our drinks and food after we were seated. However, not the waiters fault as the restaurant was very busy and understaffed. We had a lovely time though, all the same.

Really happy with our experience at the Canterbury Bell. All of the staff who dealt with us were extremely helpful, polite and professional. My wife had some questions about the roast dinners on offer and the choice of wines that were available and the guys who served us went out of their way to help and advise my wife. Throughout the experience their customer service didn't diminish and they checked to make sure that we were happy with our meals. We've been to the Canterbury bell several times before and each time we've been very pleased with the experience. The food was excellent and we found our meals absolutely delicious. We would gladly return again in the future.

We booked ahead on line. We were greeted by friendly staff and shown to our table. Our table was clean and laid ready to eat our chosen dishes. The waitress came straight over to offer us drinks. Our drinks came very quickly and we then placed our order which we decided that we were only going to have mains on that ocassion. I opted for the rotisserie half chicken and swapped my mash for sweet potato fies and side salad. I also ordered peppercorn sauce on the side. (This wasn't a problem). My husband ordered the sirloin steak, chunky fries, mushroom and tomatoes. We did not have to wait long. All food was delicious and cooked to perfection. We were very happy with our dining experience and will definitely recommend and return.

we went to the restaurant for the second time since lock down the food was very good we can not fault, but the cleanliness and hygiene in this pandemic wasn't what i expected. Sunday 16th August was a staff member giving out high 5s to a customer. even if they have hand Sanitiser ? and the other one was Sunday 23rd August they showed us to a stainless steel table that had left over food, bad enough that things got stuck to the table, never mind the used napkin on the floor. we did notice that none of the tables was cleaned after customers left, plates taken but table tops not sanitised or cleaned. we all take risk in one way or other by going out but i did expect at least tables to be sprayed and cleaned off .

Delicious food! Speedy, knowledgeable and friendly staff who helped the ditherers make choices and recommended drinks and food that everyone thoroughly enjoyed. Relaxed atmosphere, room to avoid elbowing your neighbours and able to chat without feeling you were interrupting any other diners. Will be back!

Amazing! Honestly food was lovely. It was really busy so had to wait a while for food but we did not mind at all as we enjoyed being with our family out for dinner. Lovely surprise at the end, we was given 50% off bill for the long wait! Amazing staff. Had a lovely night, thank you

We have been twice to the Canterbury Bell and have been impressed by the excellent consistency of both experience and food. The Canterbury Bell is clean and a comfortable environment to dine in. The staff are very friendly and polite. We visit with a wheelchair user and the staff always ensure we have a quieter area with adequate space for the wheelchair, this makes a huge difference to our experience. The only thing we’d change is additional vegetable side dish options such as carrots (which are absolutely delicious!) or mixed veg. Staff have been kind enough to arrange this for us but it would be a nice addition to the menu.

So let’s me start with the positive: Hotel Room (106) Clean, spacious, good desk space and decent size tv. Rooms are air conditioned which is a bonus when we stayed and room had a comfortable bed Now the negatives: Check in: Rude girl behind bar area directed me to the reception desk (which is at the back of the restaurant) and I was told to wait for someone called ‘James’ Desk was not occupied so had to wait. Several team members walked past me without so much as hi, hello or someone will be with you soon. Finally acknowledged by a lady who really looked as she was having a bad day, another team member turned up and asked her where ‘James’ was, her reply: ‘I don’t know, he’s probably on his lazy a%se somewhere’ not really what I, as the customer wanted to hear, especially as I still hadn’t been checked in at this point! Dinner: Booked a table online for 8pm, turned up just before, waited at the designated area, 3, 4 minutes passed, again several team members walked right by us without so much as a hello, hi, are you waiting etc.( the place was hardly packed out) We then took the decision to seat ourselves, when I approached the male server, he asked if we had waited at reception and I said no as no one had approached us to offer help. His response ‘Only the Manager shows you to your seats’ so, okay, if indeed the Manager holds the right to seat people, surely it doesn’t stop the team members acknowledging anyone waiting to be seated? Apparently not, well not here anyway! Next we ordered, 2 drinks and 2 mains, the hunters chicken, should come with a trades description act, as nothing had hunted this chicken I can assure you!! As tables were being cleared right near us, more chat from team members, regarding swapping shifts etc. Again people have to talk I appreciate this, but I don’t want to hear about team members rota issues! £45.00 down and if we had been closer to home or familiar with the area , I would have left. Nice hotel, shockingly rude team that lack basic customer service, an invisible Manager, a team that are in apparent need of leadership or roles outside of hospitality and over priced lack lustre food! Listen up Marstons, Wetherspoon’s do it better, cheaper and offer more consistent customer service!!

I was dining with my elderly grandmother and aunt, the staff sat us in a quiet area, which was perfect for us as my grandmother is very hard of hearing, so she found it much easier to hear our conversation. The staff were all welcoming and friendly. Both drinks and meal came out quickly. We all agreed the food was really yummy and the portion sizes were generous. We will definitely be going back

Very polite, hardworking man taking our orders and delivering the food and drinks. However, it appeared that there were insufficient staff to deal with service requirements. We ordered roast dinners and they were not hot when delivered to table. Also, drinks arrived after food. I also had to wait a long time for dessert. I must reiterate that the guy serving us was rushed off his feet and was extremely courteous at all times

This restaurant is great for families and a personal favourite for my family. We recently visited and had a meal to celebrate my Grandpa's 91st birthday, and there was 4 generation of our family celebrating with him, from his daughter ((my mum) myself his granddaughter, my son and daughter his great grandchildren and my daughter's little girl who is his great great granddaughter. The Canterbury Bell is all on the same level including the toilets and the main entrance is safe for a car to stop right outside and drop off and collect visitors, perfect for my Grandpa. Also the restaurant has outside and inside play areas to keep the kids occupied what ever the weather. The food is good and fair priced and service is excellent. Cosy family atmosphere.

Lovely place for a family meal, the menu isn't as big as other similar establishments, but the food is good quality and the staff are always super friendly. I love coming here because they are dog friendly and the staff are always happy to see our Bella.

Always my first choice of restaurant! Absolutely adore this place, the staff are always so warming and friendly, from the front door and all the way throughout the restaurant, from ordering and receiving food you’ll feel taken care of. I’m a vegetarian and always get the cauliflower buffalo wings on the feel good salad! Also love the crispy battered mushrooms with garlic dip. Can’t wait to come back again soon, I’m hoping to come here on Xmas eve if I can get it booked off work!

We have booked in for 5 nights so are still experiencing the hospitality & food. The room is comfortable, clean & was very welcoming after a long journey down from Yorkshire. The restaurant food is excellent with plenty of menu choice & very friendly & accommodating staff.

Online booking very easy we arrived and were greeted at the door very friendly. He explained how to order. We decided to order at the bar rather than via the app. Must of caught the person at the bar who took our order on an off day or maybe it had been a long day as he left shortly after. Not very friendly and felt he wanted to be somewhere else. Although took order efficiently with no issues. We hadn’t visited here for a few years as previous experience of food was very poor. However, this time food was excellent couldn’t fault it. I had the chicken and chorizo kebab and my wife the gammon. We will return

Excellent service and food. First class staff and a pleasure to use this restaurant again. We used to come pre covid but quite frankly the staff were not trained well , seemed disinterested . There are now enough staff in the restaurant and all of them deserve praise for their efforts.

Great food and service. The atmosphere although next to retail parks feels like a spacious standalone pub and grub vibe. Top notch! Recommend if passing through the area!

We have only been in the restaurant. Lovely layout, nice outdoor space with a childrens small playground. Very nice breakfasts, fast service and a nice range of continental items. The only thing is every time we've been there they undercooked the eggs.

We had the chicken roast dinner. It was delicious. We love the Canterbury Bell, in fact we ate there Three times last week. We usually go there at least once a week. Friendly staff, yesterday we had an extremely pleasant and helpful young man, sorry I didn't get his name.

We went for a weekend. When we arrive the room was lovely but only had 2 pillows, we went over for a meal and whilst there we ask for 2 extra pillows. We meet Fern she was very nice. Breakfast the next morning I ask the young man for 2 slice of toast he never brought it to me, when we got up to leave I told him that he never gave me my toast, his reply was I am very busy but have you paid as I had a cup of tea. I did not have breakfast. The next morning I again ask him for toast he brought dry toast to me I had to ask another server for butter and jam, she told me I should have ask my server, I was so surprise at the rudeness of the staff People around me was getting everything they needed when all I wanted was toast and tea. Again as we got up to leave the same young man had the cheek to ask us if we had paid. which we paid for when booking. When we checked out the young man just took the keys from us nicely , he did not even bother to ask us how was our stay as he was to busy. Staying here was a traumatic experience for us, we will never stay here again.

Booked a table for a family of 6 for 7pm, turned up to be told no chicken, they said they had run out and no point cooking anymore chickens as they close at 9pm, they then brought my daughter and myself the gluten free menu but due to the no chicken (their main selling point) we had no real option for our dinner. The other point was no real apology just a matter of fact attitude, may help when people are booking a table to advise that they won't cook chicken if there is only 2 hours left until closing.

We went there for a family meal, we previously have checked reviews and thought that the food will be great, but it was very disappointing.. we had a dry burgers and absolutely horrible cold chips! The food was microwaved! Not coming back to pay for a microwaved food! Shame we haven’t complained as we’ve been with child and so tired after our trip and we didn’t want to spoil our evening completely.

Food was overpriced for what it was in portion size but it did taste good. The guy on the front desk was sexist. Referring to my wife as darling, sweet and love all in the space of 2 minutes. The service we received from the waitress was great.

Really clean and perfect for an overnight stay. Ten mins cab from Viking Bay. Central to shops and pub and restaurant across the road. All the staff we met and engaged with were friendly polite and very helpful. Would definitely stay again Breakfast was extra charge for continental and fry up. Unfortunately this was a bit of a let down. All social distancing measures in place and executed professionally.
