The experience at the emergency was absolutely shocking and terrifying! I was brought by a paramedic team with a bp of 195/96 and a suspicion of a mini heart attack or a stroke! For three hours I was on a stretcher in a hallway under the bright light in a very noisy & disturbing to me environment. Visitors were talking endlessly and loudly on their phones and had very loud rings . My request for a Tylenol and some water was simply ignored w/o any reply at all!! When I asked a nurse if the visitors could refrain from speaking too loud on their phones, she literally attacked me in an upset & blaming tone of voice and barked at me telling “we can’t forbid people to use phones.” This showed me that their hospital was NOT a place of compassion , empathy & sympathy and help to sick people. I told them that I was leaving home without any demands from them. Then I’ve heard her calling security when I got up & intended to use a washroom. The security guards, however, were persistently knocking on the washroom door disturbing my need for privacy. At one time they pushed the door so hard, there was about a 4 inch gap in the doorway. Asking them to leave & not to disturb didn’t stop them. Instead FOUR security guards broke into the washroom while I still had my pants down & pulled me out, as if I was some kind of terrorist or a dangerous offender, making my condition even worse! They pined me against the wall, hitting my face on the wall, so that the next day a crown on my front tooth broke down into few pieces when I tried to have breakfast. Three weeks later I still can’t recover from the received shock, embarrassment, humiliation & extreme rudeness from security bouncers. They also illegally and violently grabbed my mobile phone from my hands as I tried to call the police for their assault and tried to trick me in leaving the hospital. I refused to leave until the police arrived and saw me with my pants down at my knees! In the past I witnessed this kind of conduct of their security muscles during COVID pandemic, when three huge men grabbed and pushed out of the hospital a slender & petite Chinese woman, who was waiting always quite, no issues until she apparently went to the nursing station to ask a question. None of the present patients in that room heard any disturbance by her, but only a nurse’s yelling at her “I will call security”. All patients were very disturbed and upset at the site of their violent conducts and plead them to stop at once. I had an IV in my arm, but wanted to follow her and offer to be her witness. They blocked me from existing and to speak to her! To my luck the police who arrived for me were very understanding, compassionate & more helpful than the medical personnel should have been. They asked me if I still wanted to receive help and drove me to another hospital. I also heard them sternly telling the thugs that I had a right to use a washroom if I needed so! I suffered severely from that medical condition for at least the following three months, consulting cardiologist and enduring a battery of invasive heart tests, but the EMERGENCY of the NYGH found me as a nuisance and kicked me out as a criminal! They definitely will be sued, and the media will be asked to make my story public!! THIS HEALTH SYSTEM, for which we all pay, is a TOTAL FAILURE, BLATANT ABUSE OF PEOPLE AND EMBARRASSMENT TO THE WHOLE WORLD!

ER triage nurse and registration staff is quicker. Injury/fracture emergency department(green zone) is worst and very slow. The nurses and doctors do not care the patients and are not responsible for the patients. After long waiting time, MD only take one minute to listen to the chief complaint of patients. Even the male nurse working for 30 years who is communicator wants to use his power to refuse to see the patients he does not like. It seems that the hospital is his own. He does not show sympathy and caring towards the patients. His manner and attitude are not professional. It is very curious how he has passed nursing exam? The nurses in this department are not working efficiently and have time to chat each other instead of serving the patients. This department discharge their patients without any paper work including diagnosis and treatment plan. Terrible visits this evening and wasting time! How do they treat the patients like garbage instead of dignity and respecting. We should appeal that the taxpayer should not pay this department of this hospital. This staff are worst in this department we have ever met comparing with other departments and other hospitals. injury emergency department(green zone) is worst, worst, worst in Toronto! We will give them zero star. However, we could not find zero. Do not go there if you treat yourself as dignity.

They advertise they're a top 5 hospital in Canada. Are you kidding me ?!! Don't have a baby here. I know 3rd world prisons that have better maternity wards than this disgusting place. No housekeeping for 2 days. Garbage everywhere. I won't talk about the bathrooms. Majority of the nurses are incompetent or lazy. Have your baby somewhere else

Too many with not a lot of doctors who are really trying their hardest to account for everyone. It's the staff who were grouchy, impatient, and rude. They were horrible and even have duties of paging patients. Either they were just crunching our names or speaking very low, we could not hear and understand. They also make us wait for like forever and won't let us know until we ask what's going on or what the next step is. If I didn't ask, I would have stayed longer than the 13 hrs I've been there waiting. Sorry, no photos allowed. Guess this is the scenario with most Canadian hospitals. My doctors wanted me to go to emerge and promised that it won't take me long bec of the reason I was there and that I would be taken right away. I cld hv died waiting bec I was having chest pains and numbness on my left side. Guess it didn't matter to anyone.😯

I am giving this one start to get an attention of the hospital president! overall i am very happy with this hospital but very early in the morning we went to ER with my toddler having 24 hours lasting fever (38-39) registration , seeing the doctor and getting thr results were pretty quick however a nurse and a doctor who took care of us were little unprofessional! i respect nurses and doctors a lot just because very blessed profession they have; however there are certain situations would melt your hearts or would make you go that extra mile just because there is a baby involved and freshly new parents are worried sick! i would expected a bit of conversation about how normal these typical viruses on the babies, i should do this, do that, watch this, monitor that, maybe few funny approaches shown the baby to make him or her laugh! this didn’t happen! first time my little daughter got sick and i didn’t know what to do! you would read that in my eyes ! instead of calming or maybe giving a 1min of talk would of make me feel better but you choose not too! thank you for not having a conversation, i understood that my baby was just another patient and you need to move on! like treating an adult! thank you for the amazing welcoming and warm approach. i know how stressful your job is how important are the seconds but a baby giving you kisses would take all that stress away!

Nice friendly staff and helpful. Doctors are wonderful and compassionate. . Great facilities. There are lots of parking 4.75 for 30 minutes or less or $22 for the whole day. This time they very careful of people coming in. They individually check the covid vaccine record. The hospital is very clean. Location is right at Highway 401 Leslie exit. When coming inside has to be in tge main entrance and the exit will be in the side at Gulshan building closer to emergency department.

Absolutely terrible experience! My daughter was in a bad collision during a hockey game. She complained about her ribs hurting and that she was having a hard time breathing. (Our concern, as was the doctor on call was that she had a punctured lung) My wife and I brought her straight to the hospital. While sitting in the Emergency department, my daughter becomes unconscious in the wheelchair she sat in as it hurt for her to move. I voiced my concern with the staff there and explained to the attendant what the concern was and the response from them is just wait, you're going to be next (which was about 20-30min later) I completely understand that they see a lot in the emergency department, but when a patient goes unconscious, especially a child, at least check their vitals and make sure this isn't a bad situation where every minute that goes by could be needed. They didn't even care to hear what was going on, they just kept cutting me off with "your next in line to fill out paperwork".. which is a two window process before even getting to a room. I've heard good things about this hospital, but on this particular day, it was absolutely terrible. Thank you to one of the two police officers that were there who walked over, talked with us and was concerned as well. That's all we wanted from a nurse to do, walk over, assess the situation and see if this patient needs to be looked at quickly or not.

An absolutely awful hospital!! Very rude & callous people in the triage. Nurses act like jail guards with sick people. They ignore your questions or simple requests, do not communicate with or help you! The whole area is in a great disorder and resembles a warehouse. People talk on their phones too loud near the critically ill and elderly patients. No simple manners of respect and consideration for others!! 😡 Nurses do NOT care about anything or anybody, except their paperwork and OHIP billings. It blows my mind that they always complain with the pay they get to be mean to human beings! Most importantly they show NO compassion whatsoever and are very arrogant and rude!! The ER really resembles a production line of shifting around and ignoring sick bodies. It’s simply disgusting and revolting!! SHAME! SHAME! ENDLESS SHAME ON THEM!!! I rather die at home, but in peace, than ever visiting an ER again especially at this hospital!! P.S. I DO NOT believe 99% of all positive reviews! There are NO doubt whatsoever that they are ALL FAKES !! This nightmare must be stopped!! The whole country went down the drain!! 😡

I love this hospital! I ended up at North York General Hospital when I had a concussion. I was very well taken care of. The staff were friendly and efficient. After I was discharged, I had follow up appointments to ensure that everything was in order. When I had to take my mom here because she wasn’t doing too well at one point, instead of just giving her fluids and sending her home, they ran tests to make sure there were no major issues. They ruled it as vertigo but not once was this ever mentioned to me when I had to take my mom to other hospitals. Everyone in every department is thorough. Thank you all for all that you do. Side note, pay for parking. They have security here who do rounds quite often, and I’ve seen people get tickets.

Green zone ER DR kicked me out of ER last night when I was screaming in pain, told me if I was just not so fat my wounds in my ankles would heal, and I should find a new family doctor as all he can offer me is morphine not actually close the holes in both my ankles from the wound I came in for. I was told by the nurse if I don't leave when I was screaming in pain they will call security to kick me out. When I asked how am I going to get fixed, they told me find a family doctor who can google it. If I got treated like this, I am afraid how a gun shot patient gets treated as maybe he also gets told google your own treatment and just walk it off.

Poor Admin Staff Very rude careless triage registrar They spend more time chatting and laughing without care for people waiting to be registered. I was kicked out because I asked when the nurse can register me. There were only three people were waiting to be seen y the triage nurse but she was ignoring all of us. This was at 6pm Easter Sunday. Soon as I raised the question all of sudden the security was called and the head nurse came by and without asking any question she asked me to leave and I was escorted by three security personnel to outside the premises. All I stated was that in any emergency department there is at least one triage counter is open attending to patients. That was it. I waited over 1/2 hour because the new lady was chatting and enjoying her conversation with two other male nurses without any care for the waiting patients. Now I am at Major Mackenzie hospital and honestly it took less than 5 minutes to wait and register. I have been living in North York region less than 5 min. away from the North York hospital for over 30 years. In fact my son was born there. However the quality of service has gone down for the last 4-5 years. I have been taking my family to many other city hospitals where the administration staff were very attentive and fast. Shame after all these years to see how certain administrative nursing staff are playing God and they this their job which is admitting the patients are more important. I was shocked to see that the nurse in order to hang on to her improper unprofessional conduct she had to lie and call for security. There was no rudeness nor there was any angry or in appropriate conduct. Everything went out of the proportion and was made into a scene by the registration nurses (only 2 of them). Well happy Easter Sunday to them. I hope their loved ones do. Not experience the same.

Got abused and assaulted here and then they told me I’m not allowed to call the police. Some nurses are really great but the abuse from some of them is unacceptable. The nurse I was given was a student nurse named Nikita and she made my life a living hell. Very unprofessional, she was online shopping as I was trying to get her attention to a crisis and all she said was “you need to learn some patience” 🤨 wish I could give 0 stars. Also one time I came in and there was nobody at the emergency front desk and I was sobbing on the floor for like 10 minutes because I needed help

The room for clinical Covid assessment are not proper! It’s easy for patient in another room to listen to your confidential information! We have been there today and a friend was there apparently and heard all our conversations and our health history which we didn’t mean to share with anyone! So disappointing! I am giving two stars just because if the very nice doctor!

I always choose NYGH because the triage is fast and they don’t have a waiting room as horrendous as Humber River Hospital. The only downside of visiting here is that there may be only one doctor working during the night and that’s just a terrible inconvenience to have in an emergency room. That should be improved. There are many nurses but that’s not good enough. We need more doctors.

Went it around 8am and was in the examiners room right away. Everyone there is so professional and caring. I had a horrible experience at a nearby hospital so it was troubling thinking this hospital would be the same. However, that was not the case at all! There ER is clean and all Covid protocols are followed. The nurses and doctors are not in a hurry and you always feel taken care of. Definitely would return here should any emergency come up. Amazing service!!

I was taken to NYGH on January 23 by ambulance , and I am extremely grateful I was taken there, I was so thankful at how fast they acted and helped me! They saved my life !!! I had emergency surgery and later placed on the 5th floor into recovery and my nurses were great, they always made me laugh to keep my spirits up. I do wish they had better recovery food after surgery but I’m sure it’s not in the budget and a sleeping area for family members that need to stay over night. Overall good experience and I hope I never have to go there again :)

Very unorganized and unprofessional! I have been in this hospital many times before and always telling myself never going back again. Last week I went for my Covid vacation and it was horrible. I booked in advance and had to wait for almost 2 hours to get my vaccine. It was more like a joke. Only two nurses were working in that center and one was talking to each person for at least 10 minutes. People were all so fed up with this slow vaccination. They were leaving Without getting their shots. Is this for real?? Is this how you encourage people to get vaccinated? PLEASE DON'T GO TO THIS HOSPITAL FOR ANYTHING.

Mother and baby unit was a Nightmare . I had C section for my baby in this hospital which was great but after they moved me to the unit it was like hell. First they won't give you private room so you cant rest a bit as either your baby or neighbours crying. Second Nurses are so un attentive with no care and empathy . As a first time mom with major surgery ( c section) I didn't receive any response when I call for nurse. And when they come they have bad attitude and they say we have so many patients and we can't come for small problems each time you call. They took me 2 days for nothing , didn't get any care or help. Just stressed out with loud and depressing environment

I had my baby in August 2021. While my care was transfered to the OB since I had an emergency c-section, the care in the OR and recovery was excellent. But after I was transfered to the floor I had different nurses. One of them was excellent, very caring and thorough she answered every question I had. However, another nurse removed my dressing and left a second degree burn on my skin she was careless while ripping the tape. I've been a nurse for 15 years so I know what I'm talking about. I tried to book an appointment with a lactation consultant, I booked one online and I received a call saying that the appointment will be virtual due to COVID but that I needed to book again through the website which I did. No one never called me. I ended up booking a private LC which is very costly. I booked a second time an LC appointment and no one never called. My daughter is almost 5 months and we couldn't exclusively breastfeed, I ended up supplementing. I wish the hospital would have supported me on my choice to exclusively breastfeed. Although I'm a nurse, I'm also a single mom by choice. It's very disappointed to know that the system has failed you

Had my grandmother in the unit 6 west. One of the staff was extremely helpful, kind, sympathetic and responsible with her job. She fed my grandmother while assisting with changes in such a polite manner. All hospitals need a staff like her, if I can recall correctly, her name was Aliyah. Even though my grandmother was blind, she was able to notice her right away and always asked if aliyah was on shift as she got really comfortable with her work. Overall, hospital is very clean, nurses are always friendly and provide information when I needed regarding treatments and the well-being of my grandmother! Keep up the wonderful work. God bless you all.

I'm still very uncomfortable right now recovering from a surgery earlier today, but my heart is filled with so much gratitude and warmth that I just need to write this review. Yes it was very busy and the wait was long, but every single staff I've encountered today were so professional, patient, attentive, reassuring, efficient, and compassionate. It makes a world of a difference at a time when you're feeling so sick and vulnerable. Just because you're ill and anxious doesn't mean they need to take your sh*t, you're at a hospital not a spa, treat the staff with respect and trust that you're in very good hands.

The emergency nurses were the absolute best and took great care of me when I was admitted in agony with multiple large kidney stones. They were caring, compassionate and attentive. I had to have surgery 24 hours later and the doctors and nurses were just as great. I am just amazed that after enduring the last 3 years, our doctors and nurses continue to take care of patients with such enthusiasm, positivity, sensitivity and genuine care.

Review from a former long time employee. Be careful of being employed here. Despite filling in the proper paperwork, they failed to enroll me in the pension plan for almost a year until I pointed out the error Communication for information is very difficult. I am still waiting on an inquiry with one particular department. They haven't responded to my email in 3 weeks. Experience with occupational health has been mixed. My case was left unresolved for a year and I had to follow up to receive medical pay. Nygh is one of the hospitals that are not providing retroactive pay to former employees that worked during covid. What an absolute slap in the face. After working through covid, I never felt once that they valued their frontline staff Tldr, believe the rumours about NYGH. What everybody says about them is true. Although some of the staff are amazing, you have to ask yourself if you want your loved ones to come to a hospital where staff are overworked and under valued.

Thank you to my oncologist Dr. Roitman for taking care of me in my time of need Dr. Reiner in outpatient clinic is amazing and so is Daniella at pharmacy counselling. Helen at Bone scan machine. All bloodwork technicians. And to all future appointments 😊 Thank you everyone at North York Hospital ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Veronica Gold

Just want to say thank you to all the team in pregnancy section of the hole second floor , You guys were amazing team, nice and friendly and very educated . From bottom of my heart ❤️ i wish you all The best in every moment of your life. . Yes i know the emergency section of this hospital is worse that worse, small and not enough emergency doctor for this amount of people in North York , But please don’t think the hole hospital is like emergency room . I m just telling this to pregnant mothers so don’t get worried after seeing the 2 ⭐️ for this hospital, Most of the bad reviews are for the long waiting in tiny room for emergency . I hope the government and city of North York considering to make and build new and large hospitals so the doctors in this hospital and all the staff and people and everyone can feel great for working and visiting the hospital.

Update as of January 7, 2022 - very poor COVID safety protocol compared to other hospitals. There is no distancing or plexiglass between ER seats, and a fresh mask is not provided to people. As of writing this review, there were many people packed in the ER having to sit right beside each other. My original review from about a month or so ago: Lack of adequate emergency care & dangerous meds prescribed to breastfeeding mom: 1. This hospital has no ultrasounds available after 10pm, which can dangerous for certain emergencies. I had sudden postpartum swelling and increased pain/bleeding within a week of giving birth, and waited 4-5 hours with swollen legs and pain before they told me at around 5:30am that they don't have ultrasounds available overnight. They told me I could go home and come back at 9am, or wait in the hospital until 9am. 2. The treating doctor prescribed a medication and said it was safe for breastfeeding, but my OB said absolutely not because it can hypermetabolize into something harmful for the baby and is common knowledge regarding that particular medication. There are some good doctors and nurses at this hospital, but the experience I described above, and the lack of ultrasound availability for approximately 12 hours, is quite concerning.

We had our baby at NYGH and the staff in L&D, Postpartum and Newborn Clinic were incredible. We stayed on the maternity floor for about a week and everyone was so compassionate, caring, and genuine. After our stay we worked with a midwife, Maya, at the newborn clinic and she was phenomenal. The employees on this floor never make you feel as if you’re asking a dumb question and are always ready to listen to your concerns. They’re truly great here.

The worst experience that I ever had about a Hospital is that hospital. Despite waiting for MRI for a year, the night before the test cancelled my appointment. After all the result was not clear for the specialist. The other time was about the biopsy of my thyroid. I was laying down for almost 45 minutes and the doctor was on his way ( late ). He told me he hadn't had this test for a long time. He hurt my thyroid and after all the result was not clear. I have to go for another test, but I asked my family physician not to refer me to that hospital.

Don't come here if you have an emergency. Today, we experienced an emergency situation and decided to seek help from the emergency section. However, the waiting time was incredibly long, despite the fact that there were only three patients ahead of us. We patiently waited for two hours until our turn finally arrived, but to our dismay, it took an additional three hours to treat those three patients. Once we were called in, we were ushered into a room where we waited for another hour and a half. The nurse informed us that the doctor assigned to the emergency section was currently attending to patients in other departments and would eventually make their way to the emergency area. It was bewildering to learn that the emergency section, as well as other sections, relied solely on one doctor. This lack of adequate staffing and organization raises serious concerns, as people's lives should never be treated as a mere game.

The emergency staff are vary lazy. I came with my 10 years old boy with a large cut on his leg that needs stitches. We have been waiting over5 hours to be seen . The nurses are very rude to people it looks like they are on a powe trip. Get off your high horses and start doing your job right !! Our hospitals are getting to look like third world countries. We need reform and better quality medical services I have to say that this hospital is acting like a private hospital. They kicked me out because I took a picture of my son waiting for 5 hours to be seen by a doctor. DON'T GO TO THIS HOSPITAL IT'S MORE LIKE A JAIL HOUSE . REMEMBER ! WE WARNED YOU ⚠️

I went to the Emergency room with a very high fever, aches & pains, and intense nausea. Was it the most alarming & dire emergency? No. But wow… The staff there were amazing! Everyone was professional & kind. From the check in to registration to the nurses & the doctor. Speaking of which, the doctor was super compassionate, understanding and kind. I wish I got his name but he’s the dude with glasses lol. Kinda weird giving a hospital visit 5 stars but the staff were amazing.

I am writing this review while sitting in the emergency waiting room. I have been here for 12 hours and still waiting for test results. Doctor decided to leave 5+ hours and no one knows where he is or when he will be coming back. When he returned he said he wanted me to do more tests, then disappeared. when I brought up to the nurse's how long I've been waiting they told me I'm complaining and the doctor was busy. I've literally watched the entire er staff change shifts. I have never experienced such poor medical care in my life. I guess that's what our free health care gets us. I haven't seen a doctor in emergency for the last 6 hours intervals.

Brought my mom for a Colonoscopy today. Upon entry we had difficulty finding patient registration. Security was kind and tried to assist (based on the paper instructions which were not correct). Ran into another staff member while on our hunt and she did assist but with a lot of rudeness in her tone. We forgot to thank her(maybe because she used such a rude tone and we temporarily lost our mannerism as we were in shock). She made sure to say “you’re welcome” as we were leaving. Is this what they get paid for? To remind people to be kind when it’s also their job to be this way? Then once we reached registration we felt some tone. Repeated the directions we thought we heard and even the lady there made sure to speak in an unacceptable tone as she repeated her last bit of instructions. I understand it can get frustrating to repeat instructions for little things, but treating people with respect should never be forgotten. The hospital needs to train staff tremendously on how to speak with patients and families. Everyone in the surgery section was the opposite and quite amazing. Most went above and beyond. I wish I could have given a higher rating. But the hospital has had a mix of rude and amazing staff since I was born here which was 46 year ago! I hope things change one day.

This review is for the ER only. This hospital is trash. It took us an hour just to get triaged and then no one spoke to us for a total of 3 hours. We just sat there. No communication nothing. On a Thursday night. I've never had such poor help at a hospital ever. 31 hour just to be triaged. Not even registered. 3 hours later is when a doctor comes to us just to find out what's wrong. Zero stars If I could.

Terrible service. Stayed here from 12am to 6:30am, while it was not busy whatsoever. Asked for a proper chair to sit on, the nurse said to go back to the room and I am next, one hour passed and it is still not my turn

I had an MRI appointment last night after a few months of waiting at 9 pm,when I got there without a convincing explanation they changed my time to an hour and a half later! The dr of MRI treated me very badly and even when she had to guide me on how to lie on the bed my shoulder bones hit the iron hard!!!and the assistant of the who had com to fill out the form removed the headphones on my ear with an abnormal behavior when I was not yet completely out of the machine!! I did not object to the strange behavior and pain in my shoulders because the behavior of all of them was very far from polite and I am very sorry for this experience I went to diagnose another pain and they added another pain to me!!!!!!!!

Worst experience ever, was asked to return to hospital because glucose was extremely high 33.8. Saw internal medicine doctor that admitted me, was put on a IV of humalog, IV came out, asked nurse to restart, waited over 4 hours never restarted, harassed by security to wear face mask, which I am unable to do due to COPD, then asked nurse to contact internal specialist, her exact words “No, I am to busy”, she was just sitting in chair doing nothing. I was there from 8:57 am, until 6:30 pm, Nothing being done, so I left nurse refuse to contact Dr for me I told her I was going to leave she stated fine go. This is patient care at your best at North York General , nurses that could care less about your health. Tha you a totally unacceptable behaviour I DO NOT CARE HOW BUSY YOU ARE, take a minute and listen to what your patient needs SHANE ON YOU NORTH YORK, no wonder your ratings are so low YOU DONT CARE FOR YOUR PATIENTS

Beware of the Minor Surgical Procedures and Elder Care Centre that belongs to North York General especially if you are Ukrainian! My 87-year old grandmother had an eye surgery here. Before the procedure Russian nurse Natasha told her in Russian: «Не мотай головой как корова хвостом», which can be translated as: “Do not move your head as a cow moves it’s tail”. The nurse treated my grandmother very rude after she learned that my grandmother speaks Ukrainian. Avoid this hospital if you don’t want to be disrespected.

Referred by our GP to the ER that my patenter had low blood pressure & shortness of breath & dizziness, because she had an infection going on. Rushed to this hospital but still we waited in the ER for 4+ hours and finally saw a doctor. The doctor kept interrupting my partner while she was talking about her condition and finished the examination in less than 5 minutes. The worst part was that when we left the hospital, the hospital pharmacy was closed (at eight-ish PM, seriously?!), so we had to return to my home pharmacy for the prescription. To make matters worse, the pharmacist discovered that the doctor had prescribed the wrong medication, which my partner is strongly allergic to. We had clearly informed the registration nurse about her allergies to that certain type of antibiotics, if the hospital pharmacy was open we could have found out at the hospital and had the doctor correct his prescription! It was too late to return to the hospital and it made no sense to go through all the ER thing one more time just to traumatize ourselves.

Really bad experience, went to the emergency last week because of stomach pain. And the doctor told me I shouldn’t go there and refused to treat me normally because they have patients that have more serious symptoms than me…. And then I was told to do a blood work and he gave me some medicine for constipation, I had the medicine the same day and it gave me severe pain during the night, couldn’t able to sleep and nothing was coming out neither… Tbh I would never ever trust the doctor ever again in this hospital. They’re just so irresponsible and treat patient like some kind of jokes. As of now, my stomach is still having serious pain, I’m just so disappointed, I don’t get why this kind of doctor can still be there. Btw, the doctor’s name is Jamie Blicker, please avoid him if you go there.

I don’t come here often but when I did to accompany a family member, I didn’t expect to receive such an immense level of care and empathy from the staff here. Specifically this came from Kim Wagner who is literally the kindest and most sincere nurse I’ve ever met. She took the time, effort and care to tend to my family member’s needs and concerns, and at no point made us feel uncomfortable or forced to make any decisions. She is a saint on earth and certainly deserves all of the recognition for all of her hard work in delivering care to patients. My warmest thanks and appreciation goes out to Kim!

Hospital services were amazing. Hear a lot of poor stories that may have merit but the quality of care and attention was amazing. Had a day surgery. Dr. Smith, Nurses Heidi, Lisa and the entire team was helpful, attentive and helped make an experience for most unpleasant very nice.I cannot express how kind and helpful the entire team was from registration to getting in my transportation home. Big thanks all!

The emergency room here is a joke. I came in here because of mass bleeding during my pregnancy. I waited until the entire emergency is emptied out, and people arrived after me has already been treated. I expressed my thoughts with the nurse, I even said I think I’m loosing my baby, but was scold back into my seats. I guess my case was not urgent enough for them to care. I was finally seen after almost 4 hours of waiting and blood was already all over my cloths and the floor. Of course they couldn’t care less.

I had a deeply frustrating experience at the hospital due to excessive wait times. It felt like an eternity before I received any attention or care. The inefficiency in managing patient wait times was unacceptable. I understand that hospitals can be busy, but this experience left me feeling neglected and uncared for. Timely care is essential in a medical setting, and the extended wait times were a significant letdown.

My first time ever experiencing poor service at NYG hospital in 25 years. Discharge was at 9 am, but they forget to run test and was there till 4 pm. Nurses need to be more responsible with follow ups and communicate that to the next nurse.

Worst experience of my life. I had went there with my mother, and she was in a wheelchair, her face was pale and she was told to wait in the emergency room for her turn when she was clearly in pain. She was told by another person in the hospital that she was lying to take her turn and the nurses had done nothing to stop it. She was scheduled for a colonoscopy so she asked to cancel the emergency room patient file thing and went ahead and did a colonoscopy with Dr. Yasser Boutros, I highly recommend him and his team since they took care of my mother rather than the emergency room workers. I had never met a more patient and amazing doctor that had helped her and done everything that made her comfortable.

NOT recommended AT ALL for Emergency Ward. I had the WORST experience of my life. I went to the Emergency! this morning at 6am with a Migraines attack and stomach pain. While at the triage they asked me a lot of questions about my identity even though I had my health card in their hands! I asked for a bed to lay down and they said there is no bed available!!! More than five patients were in the waiting area with IV line seated in chairs in front of each other. Watch each other SUFFERING!! For me from third world countries it was unbelievable!! It reminded me of the end of the world movies!! I am worried about the next time! It's better to stay home than being in that ridiculous environment!

I almost past out from the painkiller that they provide me to my vein. substones had dose of narcotic which leads me to highly panic attack,anxiety....I asked to stop it because I felt really bad my blood pressure went down, heart start betting very fast....And nurse was saying oh you are so sensitive tried convinced me to continue the process until i stop her. I saw how old ppl was crying, asking for help nobody was paying attention and ignoring them. I am deeply disappointed of them as human beings.

I am sincerely grateful to the staff and professionals at North York General Hospital. Each and every staff member was cheerful, gracious and helpful. Many thanks to the brilliant physiotherapist Natasha, who was thorough, kind and generous with her time. She assessed my situation and arranged an appointment with an orthopaedic doctor. I cannot recommend this hospital enough.

I had the unfortunate experience of being a patient at this hospital, and I must say that the patient room I was placed in was extremely dirty and dusty. It appeared that no effort had been made to maintain cleanliness in this room. This situation was not only distressing for me, but also for other patients who witnessed it. In my opinion, a hospital should prioritize hygiene and cleanliness as a healthcare institution. While it may be challenging for hospitals to secure more resources and capabilities, this should not lead to neglect of cleanliness and hygiene in patient rooms. I urge the hospital to pay more attention to the condition of patient rooms and strive to provide adequate and clean health services to its patients. These actions can lead to improved patient health and increased satisfaction with the hospital's services.

Finally, I completed the journey in North York General Hospital today. I came at 12:30am, it’s almost 8am when I saw the doctor, everything completed with 2 mins! I totally respected the doctor, nurse and all related staffs, but who care of us ? The nurse mentioned Oh there’s only one doctor to take care all in the night, but my question as below: 1. I came at mid-night, why the Night Shift doctor just gone in the morning, and the morning shift doctor see me after 8 hours when I came here. If as nurse mentioned, he is super busy, but why he didn’t completed his job, especially for a doctor, if he didn’t care of the patient, but just left the patients to next shift, we can’t called this guy as doctor, but just worker! He didn’t qualified to name as doctor. I’m super busy for my job as well, but I always keep my professional and responsible for my customer in the daily work! 2. If as nurse said, there’re other top urgent cases, but why this is called emergency service, we totally understood the situation, but you can’t push the your worst service to patients, if this logic is right. Every industry can do same thing, when we go to the bank, we were waiting for 8 hours which cannot withdraw the money, the bank worker can say: there are other top urgent people withdraw the money, if we dial the phone, but it did not work, the telecom carrier worked can say, there’s other top urgent events need network, you need wait, if we copy this logic to all, there’re nothing in this world! The most important, as health care worker, if you saw the worse experiences from patients, you need report the case to hospital management to see what’s better solution to address this issue, not only push the worst situation to customer, especially I can wait to withdraw the money, I can wait for a phone call, but how can we wait for a sick ? Every industry have improved the better customer experience, but from my experience, I didn’t see anything in this hospital! 3. The nurse mentioned, if you go to other hospital, even you need wait longer time, but why we need compare between ‘worse’ with ‘worst’, why we can’t change to better and best ? I can see there’s nothing can change by one day, but if there’s not any plan for the future, this isn’t not impact for healthcare, but even more!!!

My 84 year old grandmother is suffering from pneumonia and UTI and showing symptoms of delirium and confusion. She was brought in right before Labor Day weekend We were informed the doctor is off during the weekends and that he/she woukd call us. When the doctor (Doctor Lam) finally did his rounds on Sun afternoon and we presented him with a few questions regarding the updates on my grandmother, he expressed frustration with not remembering all of my grandmothers health updates because "he has 100 patients to see today." I thought it inconsiderate and unprofessional to make an excuse and make us feel guilty for asking. We felt he dehumanized us as well as my grandmother and that we were just another number on his list. I would take pause before bringing relatives here. Or at least avoid this doctor.

Worst hospital I've ever been to. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Each and every experience I've had here is a absolute joke. All the doctors I've had encounters with at the emergency section have been dismissive. Dr. Kumar should be avoided, he exhibited an aloof demeanor. My recommendation is to go any other hospital and make sure you bring someone with you preferrably a male if you're a woman and young. Also make sure you document everything & take good notes!

Went here for severe headache and nose bleeding that has been occurring for months. I arrived at 8 pm and until 1-2 am we were still waiting for them to finish attending to us. The waiting time is terrible. I should’ve just slept it in instead of wasting time here, only for them to give me NaCl 0.9% drip, some medication for headache and took my blood samples. I came here expecting them to do more tests in my head, so disappointed with how staffs are so passive too.

Doctor forgot my tests in the ER. How do they even work in the ER if not so detailed oriented. Also swab test took barely 0.1 second which is not appropriate. And tells everyone just to go back and take Tylenol or Advil. I had fever for 3 days that’s why I came to the hospital, if Advil or Tylenol is useful why would I come?

Horrible. Absolutely horrible. 1st they had my appointment wrong and now have to wait 3 mo the before I can get an MRI which was ordered 6 months ago. Was wearing a mask and was told I can't wear it. I told them I had sensory issues and the guy kept pushing on me that i have to wear what he gives me. I told him I ha ha sensory issues,SPD and he said ok. Went in for x-rays that's located on the 1st floor. When done I went back to the ground to leave. Was stopped by security and told I have to go back to the 1st floor to exist. There is no signs posted saying you have exit on the 1st floor.

Me and my husband were their and not in the greatest condition after our baby has passed away. Security decided to interfere with the conversation about 3 different guards. 2 of them were very nice but there was 1 guard who was extremely rude. His badge number is 11183054. He would not get out of my face nor give me space and he kept talking back making comments even after the manager of the security guard was dealing with the issue, her badge is 11163670. She was very nice. As for the other guy they should not have people like that in the customer care field. Very unprofessional and super upset that my tax money goes to this. This security guard made my blood pressure 10x higher especially after losing a baby. again his badge number is 11183054

I recommend this place over any other hospital in Toronto especially the downtown ones.

if you can avoid this hospital, please do so at all costs. nurses and admin staff are incredibly rude. When I was in the recovery room waking up from surgery, I was rudely awaken every 2 minutes while getting off anesthesia, I was yelled at to the point of tears. I was told “I have other patients I need to worry about” after I told the nurse I was feeling a lot of pain waking up from the surgery. HORRIBLE experience. When I complained, I was told a manager would come speak to me about my experience and that never happened. The nurses are rude to their patients at a very vulnerable time and it is inhumane to treat people that way.

I was refereed to the early pregnancy clinic in NYGH by my doctor. I was seen almost immediately and also before my appointment time. The OBGYN was very nice and explained everything to me in detail so I could understand what was going on. I am very happy with the care I received. I’m hoping I won’t have to go back there but if I do, I feel more comfortable knowing I will be taken care of. My only complaint is that the clinic was a bit difficult to find in the hospital but that could have just been me.

Janine and Natasha in the early pregnancy centre have been absolutely amazing. We had a pregnancy loss which was pretty devastating for us and I have had to do follow up blood work weekly for a few months now and more to follow, and the two of them have such positive and warm energy and always have a sweet/soft tone when talking to any of the patients... I work in a different hospital and am very pleased with their work place attitude, I can confidently say our health care system is lucky to have them!

My visiting 86 year old dad fell off the bed while sleeping and badly bruised his head. The paramedics said that he seemed OK but advised us to check him out internally at the hospital, which was the NYGH only 2 minutes from our house. The staff were kind and friendly. The initial ER assessment was at 4.30am and quite fast, but had to wait a little bit after that as the CT faculty opened at 7am. However, as soon as it did open we were done by 7.30am, including all check ups by the physician, Dr. Sommers. Bear in mind it was the early hours of a weekday morning when we visited, so the wait may have been shorter than expected, but the staff were professional courteous and kind through and through. We experienced the same kindness and compassion when my wife delivered our younger child there many years ago too. We were lucky the hospital is close to our house, as my daughter dropped me off there, while my mum accompanied my dad in the ambulance. If you’re parking there, it can be quite expensive though - about $5/30 minutes or $23/day (without in/out privileges) or $24/day (with in and out privileges). So if you’re expecting to stay more than 2 hours there, it’s worth just to pay the maximum daily rate. If you have to come on multiple days, then there are multi day passes which turn out to be much less per day.

My family and I would like to commend your staff nurse Jeff RN at 5 South East because my Mom was very ill and she was on this floor for a couple of days..We decided to make her palliative and comfort care only. Jeff was an excellent nurse who treated my Mom and us professionally and deliver the best care with so much patience and empathy. He made it easier for us so we can stay as much time to keep my mom comfortable until she passed away. We really admired his caring attitude. He is a role model for every nurse to follow...We also want to thank Christine and Venus who also cared for her.Thank you so much for everything. Also I felt very safe with the CCTV cameras there and that you put your belongings in a locker with a key. The test itself was comfortable. You wwwd earplugs and a headset listening to some sounds in the background. I closed my eyes and relaxed the whole time. Thank you NYGH for putting me at ease.

UPDATE: One person took the issue very seriously. She was very comforting and explained that she would work to make sure that something was done about the incident. She was very competent and made me feel as if I was believed. I also spoke with the charge nurse, who was also extremely attentive and concerned with the situation. I was happy to have atleast some folks on staff who understood the seriousness of the comments made. I hope that in the future training around these issues will help prevent another situation like that. TRANSPHOBIC NURSES. While waiting for my partner to be seen in the "red zone" of the emergency department, 3 nurses stood less than 20 feet away saying awful things about trans women and trans people. I asked for them to stop talking about trans people, and they walked maybe 5 feet further and continued to mock me out loud and within ear shot for asking them to stop. I alerted a nurse at a desk who asked me to show her who, and when I did, one of the nurses in question started yelling at me, telling me to "SIT DOWN AND BE QUIET" repeatedly, and then when I was crying and told him he was yelling and making me uncomfortable, he yelled "BE UNCOMFORTABLE" down the hallway at me. I was told there was nothing that could be done because it's a "he said she said" case, and was also told I would be able to speak to someone else, but also told it wasn't a priority. Doesn't live up to the sign in the waiting room.

Complete waste of time. Got constantly victim blamed and was treated condescendingly by nearly everyone involved in my care. The doctors and nurses constantly focused on the wrong thing, and I felt dehumanized. I needed help, and the people who were being paid to help me, made me feel like I was beyond help. Everyone I spoke to about my experiences here was completely disgusted, including actual nurses. I wouldn't come back here unless I was about to drop dead. Probably not even then. They'd probably treat me like less than a person even then.

Don't go there for a Covid-19 test. Needed to get a test done to visit my dad at a retirement home, no symptoms. It was like a regular ER visit, 2 levels of triage before being allowed into the Covid Assessment Centre, and then I had to wait again for a doctor after the swap was taken. Terrible service. Long wait times. Rude staff. Administration staff repeatedly lied to us about having a translator and translator machines which they didn't have. After being told to check blood sugar they forgot and had to be reminded multiple times.

In emergency, a mix of terrible communication skills from the staff and a disorganized room layout, this experience will destroy your peace of mind and your day while you are sick, or with a sick person. The staff in waiting area range from disgruntled to down right hostile. A woman overseeing the waiting area will stare at you across the room with daggars unflinchingly after being politely asked for clarification and then be happy to whisper in security's ear about you to have you handled. Its a blatant misuse of status and authority due to inferiority complex matched with a terrible attitude. She takes advantage of the hospital's zero tolerance rule to not keep people safe, but more to satisfy her abuse of power. We we're barked at from another nurse (I believe) to sanitize our hands as we were wearing gloves, when we simply would have been happy to do so if asked to do so politely and calmly (You know, like how you would treat a human). You will constantly be wondering what am I supposed to do next as no one explains with any complete direction as you move from stage/zone to the next. It will frazzle you so unnecessarily. There is not enough room to physically distance during moderately busy times and the staff will force you to group together in the seating area. It took over 6 hours to complete our full process at the hospital. The actual nurses and doctors in the yellow zone are very good especially the nurses, but after 4+ hours in emergency it will take a huge toll on your mental and physical health dealing with the awful people peppered throughout emergency. I urge you to go to another hospital if you can. I only experience this kind of aggressive, negative prejudicial, treatment that will make you feel like a farm animal being wrangled and prodded at this hospital emergency center. If you have a choice, go anywhere else.

Ive always been impressed with our experience in this hospital but I was shocked in my last visit. My wife and I went to the emergency due to a non-covid related issue. We were forced into a small overcrowded room called the yellow zone next to the entrance of the emergency. No social distancing and people coughing next to us. Nurses refused to let us sit in the next room(main entrance) where there was a lot of space to social distance. I was told, there is coughing everywhere by a nurse as an excuse to why I was forced to not social distance. Some patients weren’t wearing masks either. It’s mind blowing that this is happening in a hospital

  • 3/5 CJ G. 3 years ago on Google
Mainly location and friendly staff. However to all nurses, it’s not a shame to ask for help from one another instead of abuse. Not every nurse can find a blood vein that’s only available on a patient’s hands so after a couple of tries ask another instead of poking an at a senior who doesn’t complain or speak the language for over an hour before finally deciding to ask another nurse. It’s already painful on a hand but to keep poking at someone is cruel.

I got a kidney stone and had to run to ER. In spite of Covid-19 times, this hospital was so well prepared. Not busy, good signage, fast and they made us feel safe. Strict usage of masks and plenty of hand sanitizer gel everywhere. Attention to my issue was quick and efficient. I’d definitely run there if I ever need to. Hope not.

Very impressed during my ER and emergency surgery care last year. The triage nurse was kind yet efficient. She assessed me and since I had symptoms of a potentially life-threatening illness, I was seen, diagnosed and admitted promptly. Very thankful to all of the ER staff, nurses, and surgery team who treated me. North York General is an excellent hospital with very caring and highly competent staff.

NYGH parking hack: save yourself $26 and park at IKEA (55 Provost Drive) and walk over. I broke my ankle recently and I'm lucky the ambulance took me to NYGH because the care I've received has been exemplary. I can only speak to the Orthopedics and Plastics Centre (fracture clinic); which is a world-class facility with a staff to match. Dr. Mehdian is a particular asset to the hospital because he went above and beyond to ensure I received the timeliest care for my injury. My anesthesiologist and the nursing staff at Day Surgery were also very compassionate. What also struck me as significant was the dedication shown by the hospital's many volunteers. I would have no issue giving back to this hospital organization because it is giving me so much: my mobility.

I visited the NYGH hospital for a heart echo and had to go for registration.. this lady on the 6th floor was on a call with someone else, probably discussing the strike in her childs school. In between the conversation she asked for my health card and kept asking me questions.. everytime she asked me a question I wasn't sure if she was asking me or talking to someone else on the phone. And for something she asked me I wasn't sure and told her I need a minute.. she tells me I dnt have a minute and went back to her phone call.. she was outright rude!

(Translated by Google) Not only is it silent to the hospital, it is even silent to the doctor. The hanging emergency department waited for 6 hours from 9 pm to the confirmed diagnosis, and it was delayed for 6 hours. This hospital's emergency department is like a joke, 6 hours. During the time, I saw a lot of doctors idle, and some were still joking. It didn't matter. I looked angry when I looked at him. I went with a friend. He had a high fever. At the end of the TM injection, he lost three bags of saline. Alas, Canadian Hospital Real TM is a dry meal hospital (Original)

DANGEROUS SERVICE. My girlfriend gave birth here at North York General Hospital. The nurses in the birthing suite were horrifically unsatisfactory and dangerous (we had an experienced nurse and a nurse in training). The experienced nurse (Nurse A) pretty much dropped all responsibility to the inexperienced nurse (Nurse B) with little to no guidance. Nurse A comfortably sat in the corner on her cell phone for several hours while bossing Nurse B from a distance. The first major problem occured when Nurse B failed to adequately and properly insert the IV drip without any help which still causes my girlfriend severe wrist pain 6 weeks later (it was inserted, removed and reinserted by Nurse B and then frustatingly adjusted by Nurse A after a request for help from Nurse B). The second major problem occured unfortunately during the nurses' lunch break, when my girlfriend felt immense pressure signaling the time to begin pushing and birthing. My girlfriend buzzed for assistance with no reply. Half an hour later, another buzz was signaled for help. A new nurse (Nurse C) finally visited to see what was wrong, and mentioned that the baby's head "can be seen before the vagina" but instructed my girlfriend to resist pushing out the baby because her assigned nurses were still on lunch break. Then Nurse C left. Another half hour went by still without any help. A third buzz was made, Nurse C returned, and my girlfriend explained she can't hold back anymore. Nurse C hesitantly called for help. Ten minutes later my girlfriend's nurses returned and Nurse A, again from a distance, instructed Nurse B to feel for the head. Nurse B stuck her complete hand inside the vagina for several seconds and replied to Nurse A that she couldn't feel the head, thus possibly applying stress and pressure to the baby. Irritated at this, Nurse A got up to check herself and found the head at the very tip of the vagina, not requiring a full hand inside. The doctor was finally called after an hour and a half of my girlfriend holding back the baby, and the baby was birthed within minutes. While staying overnight, my girlfriend's wrist still had a lot of pain from her IV drip, and the bag was empty too. Several buzzes for help hours apart were made with no response. A nurse (Nurse D) finally came and my girlfriend asked to have the IV drip removed but her request was denied. A second request was made after some time and finally after 4 total hours the IV drip was removed. But the wrist pain continued. Upon discharge and to this day we were very frustrated and worried about the health and safety of both my girlfriend and the baby. If a follow up would like to be made by a health care or governing body representative, please contact me and I can provide the nurse names and dates of the incidents.

I am going to agree on that nursing issue trying to get one to come and help. They were having a little going away party for a patient. I know this because the room was right across from mine and I could hear them. I waited 45 minutes for someone to help me ( I had bilateral knee replacement) so I sure wasn't up and at it the day of the surgery. A doctor who was checking his patient next to me heard me crying asked what was wrong I told him and he went and got a nurse. The nurse was young but very kind and well I did have an accident she never let me feel embarrassed either. It took abit to get a nurse but she was very nice. As for the doctor best one ever! Dr. Medhian you are by far the best surgeon!

Do not, I repeat do not go to this hospital. I still have PTSD from the cruelty inflicted upon me. When my Doctor requested my records we found that certain records had disappeared. I was restrained by a nurse because I wouldn't let her take my blood pressure. Having my blood pressure taken had become quite painful so my Doctor agreed that I would only have to have it taken once a day. This was the evening shift and because I refused to let her take my blood pressure she had me restrained and then she took my blood pressure. She left me restrained all night. I cried all night. I was still crying in the morning. When she left the restraints were removed. When my Mom came I wrote a letter detailing everything we handed in and spoke to someone about it. Well this letter disappeared along with any record of me even being in the Cardiac Care Unit. I don't trust anyone there.

worst triage ever, on multiple occasions I have gone to emergency over the past few years. I talk to triage, than wait for hours on end, things continue to get worse for me in the waiting room and I ask when someone would be seeing me, and I find out I wasn't even put into the system by the triage. Its not like I was even told to go home, I am told to wait for my name to be called by triage. but it just never happens. This seems to happen just about every time I needed to come to the emergency, also heard similar stories from friends and family that have gone here.

We recently had a baby here and our family physician is in this facility. There are a number of positive feedbacks that I have - The hospital staff is very cooperative and helpful. The facility is very well maintained. Ample parking space. The physicians and Doctors are good in what they do. At least to my experience. I hope no one needs a hospital but if you do, this is a reliable facility.

I broke my arm in 2019 and got my surgery done here. The front desk was actually amazing and so was the doctor that saw me that night. However, my surgeon Mastrogiacomo, Frank. Had poorly executed my surgery and my recovery. Years to find out later he left me with, what’s called a Keloid scar, and it’s a huge one going down my right arm. Basically means the wound was never properly closed nor snitched up and the tissue starting healing outside the actual wound. I clearly remember him saying when taking the cast off, “let’s see that ugly scar”. I also have around 13 screws in my arm for a broken humerus… I don’t even try calling them what can they even do. My recommendation is try to avoid surgery if possible. Stay safe and eat healthy.

My husband is in the hospital this whole week for a procedure. I learnt that the procedure was not done after one whole day of waiting. The biggest problem I find with this hospital is the Ward, the Surgery and the Admission are all working in silo and disconnected. For example, Admission does not know if beds are available and the Ward does not know what is being done to the patient in the Surgery. I am a bit surprised the Nurse was not able to tell from reading the charts. Very frustrating experience for me.

Had a c section st NYGH this past week and although the nursing teams are being run off their feet this time of year with many babies coming and staff shortages, they were so supportive and kind. I brought my father to the ER last night around 10pm and he was having chest pains and his legs where swollen. When we arrived we noticed a bunch of people coughing and sitting close to one another I first noticed theres no social distancing. When my father got admitted in after an hour of waiting the triage told him to wait in waiting room and they would call him in. Long story short they took blood hooked him up machines and that they goin to do ultrasound. After 3 hrs of sitting in a room its almost 2am im with my father the doctor walked in to tell us they can't do ultrasound because they closed. I get frustrated and angry that they couldn't tell us this before we sat here for nothing. Then the doctor says there's nothing they can do but to come back next day for appt for ultrasound and remember I paid 22 dollars for parking and now I have to come back again to waste more hours and pay for parking again so we left around 2:30am tired and frustrated. I only slept for 5 hours just to come back for 10am appt so my dad can get an ultrasound and talk to doctor and get meds prescribed after sitting in the hospital for 5 and half hours and paying another 22 dollars for parking. I have never experienced such poor terrible quality in a hospital and no care in covid this is by far the worst place to come for any kind of emergency help. You will walk in with one thing and walk out with you catching covid unorganized and unprofessional.

I accompanied my elderly father today to the South East wing for a pre-op appointment. We spoke to a nurse and an anesthesiologist. I have to admit they were both very patient, kind, caring and professional. They both went out of their way to ensure my father was engaged in the conversation and treated him with utmost respect. They had the human element in their interaction which is sometimes not present with medical professionals. I am truly grateful for their patience and kindness.

Having to go to Emergency at North York General Hospital is always daunting but there are times when that is the only choice. On June 22, 2023 I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Tanzer, who not only heals in the conventional way but also with humour. It was also my misfortune to meet a Resident who would certainly benefit from more education and less arrogance. I also met a number of very kind nurses who were considerate and caring with one that stands out among the rest by the name of Jessica in the Emergency Department that constantly went beyond the call of duty. Thank you for putting my heartbeat back to normal. Sincerely, Irena Koshchuk

I am sitting in yellow room in emergency, I came in because I am going into diabetic keto acidosis and I am having issues breathing, the nurse said go sit down, I am trying to explain the issue with my breathing and does it care, I feel that I am going to pass out. And no one cares I have been waiting to see a Dr. For 2 hours. The moment I ask to be transferred to different hospital that will actually care for me, the nurse jumps down my throat and starts screaming “ I am calling security I am now.”, I just laugh because all I asked was to go to different hospital

Unpleasant. Lots of posting around facility/waiting area to wear masks but there are very few if any masks available for patients and visitors. I asked for a mask and in the photo attached is where I got one. Very unhygienic, especially considering this is a healthcare facility. This is definitely unacceptable. We were told to go in for a biopsy. Instead we did an array of diagnostics and was sent home and need to come back for another visit. Why can’t the biopsy be completed on the same day? And if it can not be, it should be very clear to the patient as to what the procedure is. We had two different technologist complete our tests, the first one was very rude and curt. The second technologist was much more professional. The first technologist mentioned that we would be doing diagnostic tests and then a biopsy initially when we went in and asked, that did not happen.

I have been a patient here for years since my family doctor is part of the hospital system and it’s mostly okay in that it’s easier to get to across the 401 and has a mostly safe and clean feeling. I have mostly utilized the emergency department but have also had an MRI and CT scan separately from emergency care. Much better In comparison to my previous hospitals such as St Michael’s and Toronto Western hospital. There are less gun shot victims but still people on drugs/drunk and some scary car accident victims since it’s beside the highway. The waiting room has been under construction since the beginning of the pandemic. It’s been so stress inducing with the overcrowding , terrible chair conditions (why do they all split in half and have stuffing coming out and cut your legs? Also doesn’t this make them more unsanitary?), yelling/noises/sometimes screaming for help and the tvs all have cp24 on VERY loud. We are in the emergency room and we don’t need to be flooded with more negative thoughts /feelings/perspectives. It’s infectious. Senses overloaded. If there is any place to trial ways of comforting human in pain this is the place. What is currently happening is just wrong. It’s just an extension of a goodlife gym (tvs with terrible programming for the masses). It already feels inescapable. If you don’t want to watch that tv then there’s the food network. As if that doesn’t cause more than half of our issues. Chill cheese hotdogs poutine? Cake boss ? This network rarely features anything “healthy”. additionally, we can’t even have food in the emergency room. Why can’t they play something educational. Helping people to see beyond the current circumstances or to have better coping mechanisms or inspire them to be better and learn in the process of pain. To transcend the present while being present in their bodies. Okay something Informational and have some sort of meditation/ spa/classical music/binaural sounds on if they need sound. The tvs can have subtitles. It’s a lot to handle sensory wise especially for those who can’t help but be empathetic to others around them. It would also be helpful if someone doesn’t bring numerous family members to the hospital while they wait. Nurses are often heard and seen laughing and talking about patients which can add to the impatience of the patients. Please be mindful that there are people in pain that aren’t able to not take this personally and not feel like this is a lack of caring for them and everyone around. Please advocate for ways to help yourselves as staff get the support you need. I also agree that it’s hard to understand what is being said on the system for names being called. Competing with the TV in addition to it having static. To whomever designed the washrooms in all areas- Can you please put a hook or two in each washroom so one can hang their jacket and purse as many of us don’t go to the hospital with someone who can hold these items (not just for concerns of theft but true presumed issues of juggling items and contamination). If you come during the early mornings (3-9) you might have a quicker visit but unlikely as many staff need to get called in. General wait time for me has been 5 hours. In 2022 I waited many hours before having to be transferred to a specialized hospital for sexual assault. This could have been avoided if the triage was informed that these cases went to another hospital so that they could transfer me before admitting me and having me explain to three different individuals along my journey (plus two more at Scarborough). This might be a far out request but perhaps one day you could have a water cooler with cold and hot water or perhaps if there are nurses who are not currently doing something, instead of being on their phone they could hand out some water just as a reminder to the patients they haven’t been forgotten about and also just to keep everyone hydrated during the many hours here.

The emergency at the hospital is very very slow, they pick and choose who they want to see. I waited for 10 hours while the doctors saw other patients. They passed me by like I didn't even exist. Maybe because I am black. Absolutely terrible service. The doctors just walk by you, they look at us as if we are zombies. Worst hospital ever. Don't go to North york hospital unless you're willing to die. The service is a horid nightmare. The staff should be fired at the emergency, they have no empathy, seems they are just here for a paycheck.

Incredible hospital. Doctors seem to actually care about you and the nursing staff is caring and attentive. I spent over a year in and out of a hospital in Halifax with no answers whatsoever. With 72 hours here, I got all my answers and they saved my life. Thank you NYGH.

yikes. The moment we arrived at the ER the treatment we got from the first nurse we talked to was off and aloof. At the end of our visit, the doctor had said he would provide medication for my dad who had internal pain, we waited, no sign of the doctor…who probably forgot a couple minutes after. yikes.

I come here on a regular basis for the huntingtons clinic and they are always super nice and professional. The receptionists are always super sweeet on the phone and with voicemails. And also the social workers, the neurologist (female dr. I forget her name), and the psychiatrist (dr fung) are all super nice. The experience every time is really helpful because they know us Huntingtons patients are going through a difficult time in our lives so it’s nice to have a stress free experience.

😠 One of the worst, degrading experiences of my life. Back in Jan 2020 (so prior to the pandemic), I had a severe allergic reaction to hair dye. Both of my eyes were almost completely swollen shut - I had to have a friend accompany me to Centenary Hospital. The doctor must have assessed me for about a...

😠 Waited hours to even see a doctor. Waited 6 hours just to be hocked up with IV. Even to ask for simple glass of water took that long. The triage nurses were extremely rude and does not care about patients. They are just being told to sit down and wait. The nurses do not care about patients. If I had...

😠 THE WORST HOSPITAL! I have been to this hospital 4 times, every time an emergency; twice for a friend, twice for myself. I feel the ENTIRE staff has been trained how to be rude to patients. 3 times we have come back with no treatment. I wish I could write how exactly I feel when I am here. They simp...
