The erstwhile Hotel Intercontinental near the Race Course Ground was initially designated as the site of surrender by the Pakistan Army, but the ground was later selected for the surrender. It is the resting place of three great national leaders Sher-e-Bangla A.K. Fazlul Haque (1873-1962), Hussain Shahid Suhrawardy (1892-1963) and Khwaja Nazimuddin (1894-1964). Ramna Race Course is named after Hussain Shaheed Suhrawardy. A Mughal structure named Dhaka Gate was built adjacent to the park area of ​​Suhrawardy Udyan. The gate was built by Mir Jumla II in the 1660s. Independence Museum is located in Dhaka Park area. The museum depicts the nation's history from the Mughal period to independence in 1971.
