Stayed at Alex from 26th to 27th of December. I am glad it was only 1 night, my husband and I had a very bad experience, it felt like an overpriced hostel experience. The room was not soundproof as stated in the reservation. The hotel has a bar nextdoor which means that we pretty much had a first hand (very bad) karaoke experience until 1am (when the bar lowered the volume, but kept going...). We called Alex a couple of times about the noise, first at 10pm, when the guy at the front desk said he would give the bar a call, but it seems that it didn't work. The second time we called, past midnight, karaoke still going full blast, we asked for earplugs, but they didn't have any and they could not change our room. If you are planning to sleep and get some rest, go somewhere else. I should have read previous review where someone mentioned the very poor soundproofing. The hotel is nextdoor to a bar, so you are being set for some degree of annoyance. For Alex: if you won't do anything about your soundproofing, maybe at least make available some earplugs? I also expected a Smart TV, since it's a 4 start hotel, the TVs are very old, so if you end up trying to distract yourself from the loud karaoke next door at 1 am, you are stuck with a very poor channels selection. :(

We stayed for two nights in the superior room on the first floor. Plusses: + Location: it's really close to the train station. + Greeted friendly by the person who did the check-in. + The room was big and clean. The real plants were a nice touch. + Enough space to store your belongings. + Small card with a personal note and two lollipops where appreciated. So were the bottles of water which were replaced for new ones the second day. + Housekeeping was fine. Minuses: - We missed an electric kettle. Getting hot water with the coffee machine is just a big no-no in our eyes. Also there were no teabags in our room - No smart tv. Luckily we brought an iPad. - We'd recommend adding the ability to put the smaller shower-head higher up. The rainfall shower is fun but not all the time. - The room is really noisy. The hotel is situated on the main street and although normal traffic wasn't really making a lot of noise but the morning cleaning crews were. We woke up from them at around 6:00 am and we were both wearing earplugs. Would not recommend staying here if you really want peace and quiet. Honorary mentions: +/- I kind off missed a real reception desk. +/- The bar/restaurant looked a bit shabby and smelled of the cleaning stuff you put in urinals. The former is more a question of taste. The latter as well I guess? We did have a semi-pleasant stay. If it wasn't for the noisiness we'd visit again but since that's more of a municipality thing we will try a different hotel if we visit Maastricht again one day. Still 4/5 stars!

Nice rooms, friendly service. Rather noisy, both from the street and from within the hotel.

Great staff, good food and coffee, and a prime downtown location near the central train station make this my fav morning work and social spot in town.

The pumpkin soup was really nice. Especially in this cold weather. The waitress was also very friendly, which added to the overall experience.

Good restaurant. Delicious breakfast. Very friendly staff. However, room 19 is very small, no table, no clothes rack, no luggage rack, everything on the floor in the room. Consists only of bed under the roof with 5 steep stairs to reach. Shower door warped, so that the bathroom is flooded. Smaller people cannot reach the window handle in the bathroom. Location hotel great.

Morning coffee outside watching the world go by. Close to Maastricht railway station. Cosy cushions and plants make this an ideal spot to sit and enjoy a sunny morning.

Food is terrible. Way too many capers in the pasta, too much salt too. Burger is tasteless, and misses sauce, also never put cherry tomatoes on a burger, too much juice and they slip out if you bite the bun. Steak strips were okay but the sauce was too sour. Service was friendly though.

Let me start with the good stuff: the bed is OK, the hotel is near the station and sort of near the center of Maastricht. That is it. The room is incredibly expensive. When I booked, I saw (but cant prove) a rate of about 110 euro, otherwise I wouldn't have booked it in the first place. We were charged 170 euro for one night, incl turist tax. Having checked the confirmation, it did say that rate. So, I didn't check the conformation very well, to say the least. My mistake. SO, DO CHECK YOUR CONFIRMATION WHEN YOU BOOK at Alex ON THE RATE YOU PAY. For this kind of money, one expects a room in which one can move around at least, as well as a smart TV and, most important: peace and quit, so one can rest and sleep when you want during the period you pay or the room. Unfortunately, this was not true at all. Our room was right above the café within the hotel. There was no apparent sound isolation in the floor, so there was quite a lot of noise from the café in our room. We certainly couldn't rest, let alone sleep. According to the owner, it is perfectly acceptable if the noise from the café below is loud up til 22:00.... HUH!?? Also, when the owner was in our room, listening to the sound from the pub below, he wondered what the problem was. "AH", he said at one point: "you assumed the room would be quit". WHAT!?? Asked why he rented a room with such an obvious problem, whilst refusing to kill the sound in the café after experiencing that two times turning the sound down didn't help anything at all, he told us: "I have this building with this room, so I rent it to make money". Really? He obviously doesn't care. The TV is not from this day and age. The screen is not very good. It is not smart either. So, no streaming Netflix or anything. Than, the shower :) It was more than full with my body, I could hardly move without bumping into anything. Not a nice shower therefore. Although I am tall and I do have some overweight, it is not that bad (appr 110 kilo by 196cm length). In short: don't stay here. In our experience, at the end of the day, the owner doesn't care. He is in for the money. The people who work there do though. It was them who were friendly enough to turn the music a bit down when asked twice. Unfortunately, it didn't help much.

The staff was friendly but when I pay 17.50 for a burger I expect it to be made with proper meat and not just a compressed meat ready made patty. Also, it was overloaded with ketchup. The espresso martini was overly sweet.

One of my favorite spots to sit and watch the city pass by. The Duvel is always cold, the food is great and the service is awesome. I've heard great stuff about the hotel too. :)

What a hotel! The room was perfect the bathroom was more than i would have expected, the pictures do the rooms no justice if you're in the room, it was perfect! The location was perfect and the staff was ever so friendly and helpful If i could rate it 10 statrs i would. I will definitely recommend and will definitely come back.

Very good hotel! Recommend. Interesting concept. However, lost 1 store for the following reasons: 1. “King bed” is composed of two beds together which separate from each other if you get in between them. Attach them together better. 2. No elevator. 3. Bed cover could be improved. Comes loose over the night revealing part of mattress.

Welcoming and friendly response upon our arrival and although we were too early, the staff gladly accepted our luggage and put it in our room for when we returned later on. The room itself was small and there wasn't a closet or some place to put clothes, but the room and bathroom was very clean. The location is in an awesome location, with heart of Maastricht and the train station moments away. We'd stay again and try breakfast next time.

I enjoyed my stay here. The staff are very relaxed and friendly, and remember you by face and which room you're staying at, so you start to feel quite at home. The room was comfortable, with a very nice view. The hotel is only 2 mins away from the train station, and around 10 mins from the centre. The dinner was excellent (I had the chicken fillet), it was very delicious! The only downside for me was the breakfast for 2 reasons. 1) I had the basic room and there was no table there, which is something I didn't even consider beforehand as all hotels I've stayed at have at least a small basic table. So as a result I had to put the breakfast tray on the bed, which was not much higher than the chair, so it was very uncomfortable to eat. This wouldn't have been a problem if covid regulations allowed indoor seating, but given the current situation, it was definitely a minus point for me. 2) By 'a la carte' breakfast I assumed you could tick off what you wanted from a breakfast menu of sorts. Instead it was a set breakfast tray. The food itself did taste good and definitely didn't leave you hungry, but it was a pity for me to see so much food wastage. But aside from the breakfast, I had a great stay there. If I lived in Maastricht I'd definitely come here from time to time for lunch or dinner!
